The vibrational characteristics (vibrational frequencies and infrared intensities) for the hydrogen-bonded complex of phenol with four water molecules PhOH...(H2O)4 (structure 4A) have been predicted using ab initio and DFT (B3LYP) calculations with 6-31G(d,p) basis set. The changes in the vibrational characteristics from free monomers to a complex have been calculated. The ab initio and B3LYP calculations show that the observed four intense bands at 3299, 3341, 3386 and 3430 cm(-1) can be assigned to the hydrogen-bonded OH stretching vibrations in the complex PhOH...(H2O)4 (4A). The complexation leads to very large red shifts of these vibrations and very strong increase in their IR intensity. The predicted red shifts for these vibrations with B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) calculations are in very good agreement with the experimentally observed. It was established that the phenolic OH stretching vibration is the most sensitive to the hydrogen bonding. The predicted red-shift with the B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) calculations for the most stable ring structure 4A (-590 cm(-1)) is in better agreement with the experimentally observed than the red-shift, predicted with SCF/6-31G(d,p) calculations. The magnitude of the wavenumber shift is indicative of relatively strong OH...H hydrogen-bonded interaction. The complexation between phenol and four water molecules leads to strong increase of the IR intensity of the phenolic OH stretching vibration (up to 38 times).  相似文献

IR spectra of phenol-Arn (PhOH-Arn) clusters with n=1 and 2 were measured in the neutral and cationic electronic ground states in order to determine the preferential intermolecular ligand binding motifs, hydrogen bonding (hydrophilic interaction) versus pi bonding (hydrophobic interaction). Analysis of the vibrational frequencies of the OH stretching motion, nuOH, observed in nanosecond IR spectra demonstrates that neutral PhOH-Ar and PhOH-Ar2 as well as cationic PhOH+-Ar have a pi-bound structure, in which the Ar atoms bind to the aromatic ring. In contrast, the PhOH+-Ar2 cluster cation is concluded to have a H-bound structure, in which one Ar atom is hydrogen-bonded to the OH group. This pi-->H binding site switching induced by ionization was directly monitored in real time by picosecond time-resolved IR spectroscopy. The pi-bound nuOH band is observed just after the ionization and disappears simultaneously with the appearance of the H-bound nuOH band. The analysis of the picosecond IR spectra demonstrates that (i) the pi-->H site switching is an elementary reaction with a time constant of approximately 7 ps, which is roughly independent of the available internal vibrational energy, (ii) the barrier for the isomerization reaction is rather low(<100 cm(-1)), (iii) both the position and the width of the H-bound nuOH band change with the delay time, and the time evolution of these spectral changes can be rationalized by intracluster vibrational energy redistribution occurring after the site switching. The observation of the ionization-induced switch from pi bonding to H bonding in the PhOH+-Ar2 cation corresponds to the first manifestation of an intermolecular isomerization reaction in a charged aggregate.  相似文献

Using time-resolved infrared spectroscopy, ab initio quantum mechanical calculations and synthetic organic chemistry a region in the infrared spectrum of triplet hypericin has been found between 1400 and 1500 cm-1 corresponding to the translocation of the hydrogen atom between the enol and the keto oxygens, O...H...O. This result is discussed in the context of the photophysics of hypericin and of eventual measurements to observe directly the excited-state H-atom transfer.  相似文献

We report the first vibrational spectrum of the degenerate proton transfer system OH·H2O. The complex is cooled by attachment of argon atoms and the spectrum is observed by argon predissociation spectroscopy in the OH stretching region. A strong, sharp transition is observed just below the region usually associated with the free OH stretch, while broader bands appear lower in energy and are weaker than the dominant free OH peak. The latter are assigned with the aid of ab initio calculations to the first overtone of the coupled intramolecular bend and strongly red-shifted H-bonded OH stretching modes.  相似文献

The vibrational spectrum of the Si-free katoite hydrogarnet (116 atoms in the unit cell) has been calculated at the periodic ab initio quantum mechanical level with the CRYSTAL program, by using a Gaussian type basis set and the hybrid B3LYP Hamiltonian. The harmonic frequencies at the Gamma point have been obtained by diagonalizing the mass-weighted Hessian matrix, that is evaluated by numerical differentiation of the analytical first derivatives of the energy with respect to the atomic Cartesian coordinates. The parameters controlling the numerical differentiation, as well as the numerical integration of the exchange-correlation functional for the self-consistent field (SCF) calculation, are shown to affect the obtained frequencies by less than 3 cm-1. Before diagonalization, the dynamical matrix is transformed to a block diagonal form according to the irreducible representations of the point group, so that the 345 vibrational modes are automatically classified by symmetry. Various tools are adopted (graphical representation, isotopic substitution, "freezing" part of the unit cell) that permit a complete classification of normal modes and, in particular, an analysis of the modes in terms of simple models (octahedra modes, Ca modes, H stretching, bending, rotations). The harmonic OH stretching band (48 modes) is quite narrow (20 cm-1), indicating that the interaction among OH groups is very weak. As the OH stretching modes are known to be totally separable from the other modes and strongly anharmonic, the one-dimensional Schroedinger equation for the anharmonic oscillator is solved numerically for the two extreme situations, corresponding to the vibration of one decoupled OH and of all 48 OH groups moving in phase. The anharmonic frequencies are 3682 and 3673 cm-1, respectively, in good agreement with IR experiments (a single band at 3661 cm-1 with a width at half band height of 33 cm-1) and confirming that the interaction between OH groups is extremely weak.  相似文献

We investigate the quantum dynamical nature of hydrogen bonding in 1,2-ethanediol and monohydrated 1,2-ethanediol using different levels of ab initio theory. Global full-dimensional potential energy surfaces were constructed from PW91/cc-pVDZ, B3LYP/cc-pVDZ, and MP2/cc-pVDZ ab initio data for gas-phase and monohydrated 1,2-ethanediol, using a modified Shepard interpolation scheme. Zero-point energies and nuclear vibrational wave functions were calculated on these surfaces using the quantum diffusion Monte Carlo algorithm. The nature of intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonding in these molecules was investigated by considering a ground-state nuclear vibrational wavefunction with reduced complete nuclear permutation and inversion (CNPI) symmetry. Separate wavefunction histograms were determined from the ground-state nuclear vibrational wavefunction by projection into bondlength coordinates. The O-H and O-O wavefunction histograms and vibrationally averaged distances were then used to probe the extent of intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonding. From these data, we conclude that gas-phase ethanediol may possess a weak hydrogen bond, with a relatively short O-O distance but no detectable proton delocalization. Monohydrated ethanediol was found to exhibit no intramolecular hydrogen bonding but instead possessed two intermolecular hydrogen bonds, indicated by both shortening of the O-O distance and significant proton delocalization. The degree of proton delocalization and shortening of the vibrationally averaged O-O distance was found to be dependent on the ab initio method used to generate the potential energy surface (PES) data set.  相似文献

We have employed ab initio path integral molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the role of nuclear quantum effects on the strength of hydrogen bonds in liquid hydrogen fluoride. Nuclear quantum effects are shown to be responsible for a stronger hydrogen bond and an enhanced dipole-dipole interaction, which lead, in turn, to a shortening of the H...F intrachain distance. The simulation results are analyzed in terms of the electronic density shifts with respect to a purely classical treatment of the nuclei. The observed enhanced hydrogen-bond interaction, which arises from a coupling of intra- and intermolecular effects, should be a general phenomenon occurring in all hydrogen-bonded systems.  相似文献

The high-resolution infrared emission spectrum of BeF2 vapor at 1000 degrees C was rotationally analyzed with the assistance of large-scale ab initio calculations using the coupled-cluster method including single and double excitations and perturbative inclusion of triple excitations, in conjunction with correlation-consistent basis sets up to quintuple-zeta quality. The nu3 fundamental band, the nu1+nu2, nu1+nu3, and 2nu2+nu3 combination bands, and 18 hot bands were assigned. The symmetric stretching (nu1), bending (nu2), and antisymmetric stretching (nu3) mode frequencies were determined to be 769.0943(2), 342.6145(3), and 1555.0480(1) cm-1, respectively, from the band origins of the nu3, nu1+nu3, and nu1+nu2 bands. The observed vibrational term values and B rotational constants were fitted simultaneously to an effective Hamiltonian model with Fermi resonance taken into account, and deperturbed equilibrium vibrational and rotational constants were obtained for BeF2. The equilibrium rotational constant (Be) was determined to be 0.235 354(41) cm-1, and the associated equilibrium bond distance (re) is 1.3730(1) A. The results of our ab initio calculations are in remarkably good agreement with those of our experiment, and the calculated value was 1.374 A for the equilibrium bond distance (re). As in the isoelectronic CO2 molecule, the Fermi resonance in BeF2 is very strong, and the interaction constant k122 was found to be 90.20(4) cm-1.  相似文献

The vibrational characteristics (vibrational frequencies, infrared intensities and Raman activities) for the hydrogen-bonded system of Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) with five water molecules have been predicted using ab initio SCF/6-31G(d,p) calculations and DFT (BLYP) calculations with 6-31G(d,p) and 6-31++G(d,p) basis sets. The changes in the vibrational characteristics from free monomers to a complex have been calculated. The ab initio and BLYP calculations show that the complexation between Vitamin C and five water molecules leads to large red shifts of the stretching vibrations for the monomer bonds involved in the hydrogen bonding and very strong increase in their IR intensity. The predicted frequency shifts for the stretching vibrations from Vitamin C taking part in the hydrogen bonding are up to -508 cm(-1). The magnitude of the wavenumber shifts is indicative of relatively strong OH...H hydrogen-bonded interactions. In the same time the IR intensity and Raman activity of these vibrations increase upon complexation. The IR intensity increases dramatically (up to 12 times) and Raman activity increases up to three times. The ab initio and BLYP calculations show, that the symmetric OH vibrations of water molecules are more sensitive to the complexation. The hydrogen bonding leads to very large red shifts of these vibrations and very strong increase in their IR intensity. The asymmetric OH stretching vibrations of water, free from hydrogen bonding are less sensitive to the complexation than the hydrogen-bonded symmetric OH stretching vibrations. The increases of the IR intensities for these vibrations are lower and red shifts are negligible.  相似文献

The measurement of absorption spectra using angle-dependent terahertz (THz) time-domain spectroscopy for amino acid single crystals of l-cysteine and l-histidine is reported for the first time. Linearly polarized THz radiation enables us to observe angle-dependent far-infrared absorption spectra of amino acid single crystals and determine the direction of the oscillating dipole of the molecules in the 20-100 cm(-1) range. By comparing the THz spectra of a single crystal and powder, we found that there was a clear hydrogen-bond peak in the crystal spectrum as a result of the larger hydrogen-bond network. The low-temperature THz spectra of amino acid microcrystals showed more intermolecular vibrational modes than those measured at room temperature. An ab initio frequency calculation of a single amino acid molecule was used to predict the intramolecular vibrational modes. The validity of the calculation models was confirmed by comparing the results with experimentally obtained data in the Raman spectral region.  相似文献

The hydrogen-bond dynamics of lithium nitrate trihydrate has been studied by a combined approach based on ab initio molecular dynamics simulations and wavelet analysis. The simultaneous bifurcated interaction between one hydrogen atom of water molecules and two oxygen atoms of nitrate ions is the pivotal feature of the crystal structure: this bifurcated interaction has deep effects on the O-H stretching region of the vibrational spectrum. The structural, dynamic, spectroscopic, and electronic properties of the bifurcated hydrogen bond have been investigated computationally, elucidating at the molecular level the differences with weak and strong hydrogen bonds present in the crystal. These studies corroborate the very recent IR experiments performed on the lithium nitrate trihydrate crystal, offering new perspectives to interpreting the vibrational spectra. In fact, this approach allows obtaining two-dimensional plots, which summarize the essential features of both the hydrogen-bond network and IR spectra, resulting in a peculiar "signature" of the bifurcated interaction.  相似文献

Reactions of laser-ablated Th atoms with H2O during condensation in excess argon have formed a variety of intriguing new Th, H, O species. Infrared absorptions at 1406.0 and 842.6 cm-1 are assigned to the H-Th and Th=O stretching vibrations of HThO. Absorptions at 1397.2, 1352.4, and 822.8 cm-1 are assigned to symmetric H-Th-H, antisymmetric H-Th-H, and Th=O stretching vibrations of the major primary reaction product H2ThO. Thorium monoxide (ThO) produced in the reaction inserts into H2O to form HThO(OH), which absorbs at 1341.0, 804.0, and 542.6 cm-1. Both HThO(OH) and ThO2 add another H2O molecule to give HTh(OH)3 and OTh(OH)2, respectively. Weaker thorium hydride (ThH1(-4)) absorptions were also observed. Relativistic DFT and ab initio calculations were performed on all proposed molecules and other possible isomers. The good agreement between experimental and calculated vibrational frequencies, relative absorption intensities, and isotopic shifts provides support for these first identifications of Th, H, O molecular species.  相似文献

Infrared, Raman and INS spectra of picolinic acid N-oxide (PANO) were recorded and examined for the location of the hydronic modes, particularly O-H stretching and COH bending. PANO is representative of strong chelate hydrogen bonds (H-bonds) with its short O...O distance (2.425 A). H-bonding is possibly well-characterized by diffraction, NMR and NQR data and calculated potential energy functions. The analysis of the spectra is assisted by DFT frequency calculations both in the gas phase and in the solid state. The Car-Parrinello quantum mechanical solid-state method is also used for the proton dynamics simulation; it shows the hydron to be located about 99% of time in the energy minimum near the carboxylic oxygen; jumps to the N-O acceptor are rare. The infrared spectrum excels by an extended absorption (Zundel's continuum) interrupted by numerous Evans transmissions. The model proton potential functions on which the theories of continuum formation are based do not correspond to the experimental and computed characteristics of the hydrogen bond in PANO, therefore a novel approach has been developed; it is based on crystal dynamics driven hydronium potential fluctuation. The envelope of one hundred 0 --> 1 OH stretching transitions generated by molecular dynamics simulation exhibits a maximum at 1400 cm-1 and a minor hump at approximately 1600 cm-1. These positions square well with ones predicted for the COH bending and OH stretching frequencies derived from various one- and two-dimensional model potentials. The coincidences with experimental features have to be considered with caution because the CPMD transition envelope is based solely on the OH stretching coordinate while the observed infrared bands correspond to heavily mixed modes as was previously shown by the normal coordinate analysis of the IR spectrum of argon matrix isolated PANO, the present CPMD frequency calculation and the empirical analysis of spectra. The experimental infrared spectra show some unusual characteristics such as large temperature effects on the intensity of some bands, thus presenting a challenge for theoretical band shape treatments. Our calculations clearly show that the present system is characterized by an asymmetric single well potential with no large amplitudes in the hydronium motion, which extends the existence of Zundel-type spectra beyond the established set of hydrogen bonds with large hydronic vibrational amplitudes.  相似文献

An excitation of the OH-stretch nu(OH) of water has unique disruptive effects on the local hydrogen bonding. The disruption is not an immediate vibrational predissociation, which is frequently the case with hydrogen-bonded clusters, but instead is a delayed disruption caused by a burst of energy from a vibrationally excited water molecule. The disruptive effects are the result of a fragile hydrogen-bonding network subjected to a large amount of vibrational energy released in a short time by the relaxation of nu(OH) stretching and delta(H2O) bending excitations. The energy of a single nu(OH) vibration distributed over one, two, or three (classical) water molecules would be enough to raise the local temperature to 1100, 700, or 570 K, respectively. Our understanding of the properties of the metastable water state having this excess energy in nearby hydrogen bonds, termed H2O*, has emerged as a result of experiments where a femtosecond IR pulse is used to pump nu(OH), which is probed by either Raman or IR spectroscopy. These experiments show that the H2O* spectrum is blue-shifted and narrowed, and the spectrum looks very much like supercritical water at approximately 600 K, which is consistent with the temperature estimates above. The H2O* is created within approximately 400 fs after nu(OH) excitation, and it relaxes with an 0.8 ps lifetime by re-formation of the disrupted hydrogen-bond network. Vibrationally excited H2O* with one quantum of excitation in the stretching mode has the same 0.8 ps lifetime, suggesting it also relaxes by hydrogen-bond re-formation.  相似文献

Intramolecular vibrational energy redistributions of the O-H stretching (nuOH) vibration for the methanol monomer and its water complex, the methanol-water dimer, are investigated by using ab initio full-dimensional classical trajectory calculations. For the methanol monomer, in the high-energy regime of the 5nuOH overtone, the time dependence of the normal-mode energies indicates that energy flowed from the initial excited O-H stretching mode to the C-H stretching mode. This result confirms the experimental observation of energy redistribution between the O-H and C-H stretching vibrations [L. Lubich et al., Faraday Discuss. 102, 167 (1995)]. Furthermore, a lot of dynamical information in the time domain is contained in the power spectra, whose density is given by the Fourier transformation of the total momentum obtained from trajectory calculations. For the methanol-water hydrogen-bonded complex, at the high-energy level of the 5nuOH overtone, the calculated power spectrum shows considerable splitting and broadening, indicating significant energy redistribution through strong coupling between the O-H stretching vibration and other vibrations. It is thus clear that the A-H...B hydrogen-bond formation facilitates energy redistribution subsequent to the vibrational excitation of the hydrogen-bonded A-H stretching mode.  相似文献

The rotationally resolved LIF spectra of four different isotopomers of the phenol--nitrogen cluster have been measured to elucidate the structural parameters of the cluster in ground and electronically excited (S1) state. The fit of the rotational constants has been performed by a genetic algorithm and by an assigned fit to the line frequencies. The results of both methods are compared. The intermolecular structures are fit to the inertial parameters and are compared to the results of ab initio calculations for both states. This fit was performed under the restriction that the geometry of the monomer moieties do not change upon complexation. Of the remaining five intermolecular parameters two dihedral angles were fixed due to the planarity of the complex, which was inferred from the inertial defects of all isotopomers. The distance of the nearest nitrogen atom to the hydrogen atom of the phenolic hydroxy group is found to decrease upon electronic excitation of the chromophore considerably more than predicted from ab initio calculations. This deviation between theory and experiment can be traced back to the absence of electron-electron correlation in the performed complete active space self-consistent field calculations. The shortening of the OH...NN "hydrogen" bond upon electronic excitation is in agreement with the increased dipole moment of phenol in the S1-state.  相似文献

Structures of nickel cluster ions adsorbed with methanol, Ni3+ (CH3OH)m (m = 1-3) and Ni4+ (CH3OH)m (m = 1-4) were investigated by using infrared photodissociation (IR-PD) spectroscopy based on a tandem-type mass spectrometer, where they were produced by passing Ni3,4+ through methanol vapor under a multiple collision condition. The IR-PD spectra were measured in the wavenumber region between 3100 and 3900 cm-1. In each IR-PD spectrum, a single peak was observed at a wavenumber lower by approximately 40 cm-1 than that of the OH stretching vibration of a free methanol molecule and was assigned to the OH stretching vibrations of the methanol molecules in Ni3,4+ (CH3OH)m. The photodissociation was analyzed by assuming that Ni3,4+ (CH3OH)m dissociate unimolecularly after the photon energy absorbed by them is statistically distributed among the accessible modes of Ni3,4+ (CH3OH)m. In comparison with the calculations performed by the density functional theory, it is concluded that (1) the oxygen atom of each methanol molecule is bound to one of the nickel atoms in Ni3,4+ (defined as molecular chemisorption), (2) the methanol molecules in Ni3,4+ (CH3OH)m do not form any hydrogen bonds, and (3) the cross section for demethanation [CH4 detachment from Nin+ (CH3OH)] is related to the electron density distribution inside the methanol molecule.  相似文献

Infrared spectra of mass-selected F- -(CH4)n (n = 1-8) clusters are recorded in the CH stretching region (2500-3100 cm-1). Spectra for the n = 1-3 clusters are interpreted with the aid of ab initio calculations at the MP2/6-311++G(2df 2p) level, which suggest that the CH4 ligands bind to F- by equivalent, linear hydrogen bonds. Anharmonic frequencies for CH4 and F--CH4 are determined using the vibrational self-consistent field method with second-order perturbation theory correction. The n = 1 complex is predicted to have a C3v structure with a single CH group hydrogen bonded to F-. Its spectrum exhibits a parallel band associated with a stretching vibration of the hydrogen-bonded CH group that is red-shifted by 380 cm-1 from the nu1 band of free CH4 and a perpendicular band associated with the asymmetric stretching motion of the nonbonded CH groups, slightly red-shifted from the nu3 band of free CH4. As n increases, additional vibrational bands appear as a result of Fermi resonances between the hydrogen-bonded CH stretching vibrational mode and the 2nu4 overtone and nu2+nu4 combination levels of the methane solvent molecules. For clusters with n < or = 8, it appears that the CH4 molecules are accommodated in the first solvation shell, each being attached to the F- anion by equivalent hydrogen bonds.  相似文献
