We analyze the Krawtchouk polynomials K n (x,N,p,q) asymptotically. We use singular perturbation methods to analyze them for N→∞, with appropriate scalings of the two variables x and n. In particular, the WKB method and asymptotic matching are used. We obtain asymptotic approximations valid in the whole domain [0,N]×[0,N], involving some special functions. We give numerical examples showing the accuracy of our formulas.   相似文献

We study commutative algebras A over fields of characteristic ≠2, 3 which satisfy the identity β{x(y(xx)) ? x(x(xy))} + γ{y(x(xx)) ? x(x(xy))} = 0. We do not assume power-associativity. We find the Peirce decomposition of these algebras. We prove the existence of a Wedderburn decomposition under some additional conditions.  相似文献

We analyse the mixing time of Markov chains using path coupling with stopping times. We apply this approach to two hypergraph problems. We show that the Glauber dynamics for independent sets in a hypergraph mixes rapidly as long as the maximum degree Δ of a vertex and the minimum size m of an edge satisfy m ≥ 2Δ + 1. We also show that the Glauber dynamics for proper q‐colorings of a hypergraph mixes rapidly if m ≥ 4 and q > Δ, and if m = 3 and q ≥ 1.65Δ. We describe the structure of irreducible matrix groups with submultiplicative spectrum. Since all such groups are nilpotent, the study is focused on p-groups. We obtain a block-monomial structure of matrices in irreducible p-groups and build polycyclic series arising from that structure. We give an upper bound to the exponent of these groups. We determine all minimal irreducible groups of p× p matrices with submultiplicative spectrum and discuss the case of p 2× p 2 matrices if p is an odd prime.  相似文献

This paper generalises the concept of vertex pancyclic graphs. We define a graph as set-pancyclic if for every set S of vertices there is a cycle of every possible length containing S. We show that if the minimum degree of a graph exceeds half its order then the graph is set-pancyclic. We define a graph as k-ordered-pancyclic if, for every set S of cardinality k and every cyclic ordering of S, there is for every possible length a cycle of that length containing S and encountering S in the specified order. We determine the best possible minimum-degree condition which guarantees that a graph is k-ordered-pancyclic.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce and study torsion-theoretic generalizations of singular and nonsingular modules by using the concept of τ-essential submodule for a hereditary torsion theory τ. We introduce two new module classes called τ-singular and non-τ-singular modules. We investigate some properties of these module classes and present some examples to show that these new module classes are different from singular and nonsingular modules. We give a characterization of τ-semisimple rings via non-τ-singular modules. We prove that if Mτ(M) is non-τ-singular for a module M, then every submodule of M has a unique τ-closure. We give some properties of the torsion theory generated by the class of all τ-singular modules. We obtain a decomposition theorem for a strongly τ-extending module by using non-τ-singular modules.  相似文献

We introduce two notions of amenability for a Banach algebra A. LetI be a closed two-sided ideal inA, we sayA is I-weakly amenable if the first cohomology group ofA with coefficients in the dual space I* is zero; i.e.,H 1(A, I*) = {0}, and,A is ideally amenable ifA isI-weakly amenable for every closed two-sided idealI inA. We relate these concepts to weak amenability of Banach algebras. We also show that ideal amenability is different from amenability and weak amenability. We consider finite groups which have connected transversals to subgroups whose order is a product of two primespandq. We investigate those values ofpandqfor which the group is soluble. We can show that the solubility of the group follows ifq = 2 andp ≤ 61,q = 3 andp ≤ 31,q = 5 andp ≤ 11. We then apply our results on loop theory and we show that if the inner mapping group of a finite loop has orderpqwherepandqare as above then the loop is soluble.  相似文献

We describe some basic facts about the weak subintegral closure of ideals in both the algebraic and complex-analytic settings. We focus on the analogy between results on the integral closure of ideals and modules and the weak subintegral closure of an ideal. We start by giving a new geometric interpretation of the Reid–Roberts–Singh criterion for when an element is weakly subintegral over a subring. We give new characterizations of the weak subintegral closure of an ideal. We associate with an ideal I of a ring A an ideal I>, which consists of all elements of A such that v(a)>v(I), for all Rees valuations v of I. The ideal I> plays an important role in conditions from stratification theory such as Whitney's condition A and Thom's condition Af and is contained in every reduction of I. We close with a valuative criterion for when an element is in the weak subintegral closure of an ideal. For this, we introduce a new closure operation for a pair of modules, which we call relative weak closure. We illustrate the usefulness of our valuative criterion.  相似文献

In this paper, we present results on constrained controllability for linear control systems. The controls are constrained to take values in a compact set containing the origin. We use the results on reachability properties discussed in Ref. 1.We prove that controllability of an arbitrary pointp inR n is equivalent to an inclusion property of the reachable sets at certain positive times. We also develop geometric properties ofG, the set of all nonnegative times at whichp is controllable, and ofC, the set of all controllable points. We characterize the setC for the given system and provide additional spectrum-dependent structure.We show that, for the given linear system, several notions of constrained controllability of the pointp are the same, and thus the setC is open. We study heights of subspaces of D N where D is a finite-dimensional rational division algebra and N a positive integer. We define them in terms of volumes of Euclidean lattices by extending a formula of W. Schmidt so that we recover the classical height if D is commutative. We review basic properties, prove a Siegel Lemma over D, a duality theorem and a new formula for the degree of certain abelian varieties. We further give matrix versions and compare our notion with the height defined through algebraic groups by J. Franke, Y. Manin and Y. Tschinkel.   相似文献

We consider manifolds over a local algebra A. We study basis functions of the canonical foliation which represent the real parts of A-differentiable functions. We prove that these are constant functions. We find the form of A-differentiable functions on some manifolds over local algebras, in particular, on compact manifolds. We obtain an estimate for the dimension of some spaces of 1-forms and analogs of the above results for the projective mappings of foliations.  相似文献

We consider semigroup S of a rank 1 valuation ? centered on a local ring R. We show that the Hilbert polynomial of R gives a bound on the growth of the valuation semigroup S. This allows us to give a very simple example of a well ordered subsemigroup of Q+, which is not a value semigroup of a local domain. We also consider the rates of growth which are possible for S. We show that quite exotic behavior can occur. In the final section, we consider the general question of characterizing rank 1 value semigroups.  相似文献

We make a definition of ω-precategory which should underlie any definition of weak ω-category. We make a precise definition of pseudo-invertible cells in this setting. We show that in an ω-precategory with all weak duals, every cell is pseudo-invertible. We deduce that in any “sensible” theory of ω-categories, an ω-category with all weak duals is an ω-groupoid. We discuss various examples and open questions involving higher-dimensional tangles and cobordisms.   相似文献

We study the Schur elements associated to the simple modules of the Ariki–Koike algebra. We first give a cancellation-free formula for them so that their factors can be easily read and programmed. We then study direct applications of this result. We also complete the determination of the canonical basic sets for cyclotomic Hecke algebras of type G(l,p,n) in characteristic 0.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the relation between local spectral properties of the linear operators RS and SR. We show that RS and SR share the same local spectral properties SVEP, (β), (δ) and decomposability. We also show that RS is subscalar if and only if SR is subscalar. We present an asymmetric q-Painlevé equation. We will derive this using q-orthogonal polynomials with respect to generalized Freud weights: their recurrence coefficients will obey this q-Painlevé equation (up to a simple transformation). We will show a stable method of computing a special solution, which gives the recurrence coefficients. We establish a connection with α-q-PV.  相似文献
