On the Laplacian spectral radii of bicyclic graphs   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A graph G of order n is called a bicyclic graph if G is connected and the number of edges of G is n+1. Let B(n) be the set of all bicyclic graphs on n vertices. In this paper, we obtain the first four largest Laplacian spectral radii among all the graphs in the class B(n) (n≥7) together with the corresponding graphs.  相似文献

A bicyclic graph is a connected graph in which the number of edges equals the number of vertices plus one. Let Δ(G) and ρ(G) denote the maximum degree and the spectral radius of a graph G, respectively. Let B(n) be the set of bicyclic graphs on n vertices, and B(n,Δ)={GB(n)∣Δ(G)=Δ}. When Δ≥(n+3)/2 we characterize the graph which alone maximizes the spectral radius among all the graphs in B(n,Δ). It is also proved that for two graphs G1 and G2 in B(n), if Δ(G1)>Δ(G2) and Δ(G1)≥⌈7n/9⌉+9, then ρ(G1)>ρ(G2).  相似文献

A graph G satisfies the Ore-condition if d(x) + d(y) ≥ | V (G) | for any xy ■ E(G). Luo et al. [European J. Combin., 2008] characterized the simple Z3-connected graphs satisfying the Ore-condition. In this paper, we characterize the simple Z3-connected graphs G satisfying d(x) + d(y) ≥ | V (G) |-1 for any xy ■ E(G), which improves the results of Luo et al.  相似文献

The competition graph of a digraph D is a (simple undirected) graph which has the same vertex set as D and has an edge between two distinct vertices x and y if and only if there exists a vertex v in D such that (x, v) and (y, v) are arcs of D. For any graph G, G together with sufficiently many isolated vertices is the competition graph of some acyclic digraph. The competition number k(G) of a graph G is the smallest number of such isolated vertices. Computing the competition number of a graph is an NP-hard problem in general and has been one of the important research problems in the study of competition graphs. Opsut [1982] showed that the competition number of a graph G is related to the edge clique cover number θ E (G) of the graph G via θ E (G) ? |V(G)| + 2 ≤ k(G) ≤ θ E (G). We first show that for any positive integer m satisfying 2 ≤ m ≤ |V(G)|, there exists a graph G with k(G) = θ E (G) ? |V(G)| + m and characterize a graph G satisfying k(G) = θ E (G). We then focus on what we call competitively tight graphs G which satisfy the lower bound, i.e., k(G) = θ E (G) ? |V(G)| + 2. We completely characterize the competitively tight graphs having at most two triangles. In addition, we provide a new upper bound for the competition number of a graph from which we derive a sufficient condition and a necessary condition for a graph to be competitively tight.  相似文献

It was conjectured that for each simple graph G=(V,E) with n=|V(G)| vertices and m=|E(G)| edges, it holds M2(G)/mM1(G)/n, where M1 and M2 are the first and second Zagreb indices. Hansen and Vuki?evi? proved that it is true for all chemical graphs and does not hold in general. Also the conjecture was proved for all trees, unicyclic graphs, and all bicyclic graphs except one class. In this paper, we show that for every positive integer k, there exists a connected graph such that mn=k and the conjecture does not hold. Moreover, by introducing some transformations, we show that M2/(m−1)>M1/n for all bicyclic graphs and it does not hold for general graphs. Using these transformations we give new and shorter proofs of some known results.  相似文献

For a pair of vertices x and y in a graph G, we denote by dG(x,y) the distance between x and y in G. We call x a boundary vertex of y if x and y belong to the same component and dG(y,v)?dG(y,x) for each neighbor v of x in G. A boundary vertex of some vertex is simply called a boundary vertex, and the set of boundary vertices in G is called the boundary of G, and is denoted by B(G).In this paper, we investigate graphs with a small boundary. Since a pair of farthest vertices are boundary vertices, |B(G)|?2 for every connected graph G of order at least two. We characterize the graphs with boundary of order at most three. We cannot give a characterization of graphs with exactly four boundary vertices, but we prove that such graphs have minimum degree at most six. Finally, we give an upper bound to the minimum degree of a connected graph G in terms of |B(G)|.  相似文献

A connected graph G is said to be factor-critical if G − ν has a perfect matching for every vertex ν of G. In this paper, the factor-critical graphs G with |V(G)| maximum matchings and with |V(G)| + 1 ones are characterized, respectively. From this, some special bicritical graphs are characterized. We introduce a family of reductions for removing proper and homogeneous pairs of cliques from a graph G. This family generalizes some routines presented in the literature, mostly in the context of claw-free graphs. These reductions can be embedded in a simple algorithm that in at most |E(G)| steps builds a new graph G without proper and homogeneous pairs of cliques, and such that G and G agree on the value of some relevant invariant (or property).  相似文献

For a (simple) graph G, the signless Laplacian of G is the matrix A(G)+D(G), where A(G) is the adjacency matrix and D(G) is the diagonal matrix of vertex degrees of G; the reduced signless Laplacian of G is the matrix Δ(G)+B(G), where B(G) is the reduced adjacency matrix of G and Δ(G) is the diagonal matrix whose diagonal entries are the common degrees for vertices belonging to the same neighborhood equivalence class of G. A graph is said to be (degree) maximal if it is connected and its degree sequence is not majorized by the degree sequence of any other connected graph. For a maximal graph, we obtain a formula for the characteristic polynomial of its reduced signless Laplacian and use the formula to derive a localization result for its reduced signless Laplacian eigenvalues, and to compare the signless Laplacian spectral radii of two well-known maximal graphs. We also obtain a necessary condition for a maximal graph to have maximal signless Laplacian spectral radius among all connected graphs with given numbers of vertices and edges.  相似文献

Let G be the circuit graph of any connected matroid M with minimum degree 5(G). It is proved that its connectivity κ(G) ≥2|E(M) - B(M)| - 2. Therefore 5(G) ≥ 2|E(M) - B(M)| - 2 and this bound is the best possible in some sense.  相似文献

We prove that any parallel chip-firing game on a graph G with at least 4|E(G)| − |V(G)| chips stabilizes, i.e., such a game has eventual period of length 1. Furthermore, we obtain a polynomial bound on the number of rounds before stabilization. This result is a counterpoint to previous results which showed that the eventual periods of parallel chip-firing games with few chips need not be polynomially bounded.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate the edge nucleus E0(G) of a point-determining graph G. We observe several relationships between E0(G) and the nucleus G0 = {vV(G)∣ G ? v is point determining} and use these relationships to prove several properties of E0(G). In particular, we show that there are only a finite number of graphs with a given edge nucleus and we determine those graphs G for which |E0(G)| ≤ 2. We also show that an n-clique of a point-determining graph G contains at least n?2 edges of E0(G) and if G is totally point determining, then every odd cycle of G meets E0(G).  相似文献

Let G be a graph and let D6(G)={vV(G)|dG(v)=6}. In this paper we prove that: (i) If G is a 6-connected claw-free graph and if |D6(G)|≤74 or G[D6(G)] contains at most 8 vertex disjoint K4’s, then G is Hamiltonian; (ii) If G is a 6-connected line graph and if |D6(G)|≤54 or G[D6(G)] contains at most 5 vertex disjoint K4’s, then G is Hamilton-connected.  相似文献

For a graph G, a subset S of V(G) is called a shredder if GS consists of three or more components. We show that if G is a 5-connected graph with |V(G)|≥135, then the number of shredders of cardinality 5 of G is less than or equal to (2|V(G)|−10)/3.  相似文献

Let α(G) and χ(G) denote the independence number and chromatic number of a graph G, respectively. Let G×H be the direct product graph of graphs G and H. We show that if G and H are circular graphs, Kneser graphs, or powers of cycles, then α(G×H)=max{α(G)|V(H)|,α(H)|V(G)|} and χ(G×H)=min{χ(G),χ(H)}.  相似文献

A total dominating set, S, in a graph, G, has the property that every vertex in G is adjacent to a vertex in S. The total dominating number, γt(G) of a graph G is the size of a minimum total dominating set in G. Let G be a graph with no component of size one or two and with Δ(G) ≥ 3. In 6 , it was shown that |E(G)| ≤ Δ(G) (|V(G)|–γt(G)) and conjectured that |E(G)| ≤ (Δ(G)+3) (|V(G)|–γt(G))/2 holds. In this article, we prove that holds and that the above conjecture is false as there for every Δ exist Δ‐regular bipartite graphs G with |E(G)| ≥ (Δ+0.1 ln(Δ)) (|V(G)|–γt(G))/2. The last result also disproves a conjecture on domination numbers from 8 . © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Graph Theory 55: 325–337, 2007  相似文献

A graph is subcubic if its maximum degree is at most 3. The bipartite density of a graph G is defined as b(G)=max{|E(B)|/|E(G)|:B is a bipartite subgraph of G}. It was conjectured by Bondy and Locke that if G is a triangle-free subcubic graph, then and equality holds only if G is in a list of seven small graphs. The conjecture has been confirmed recently by Xu and Yu. This note gives a shorter proof of this result.  相似文献

We present results on partitioning the vertices of 2-edge-colored graphs into monochromatic paths and cycles. We prove asymptotically the two-color case of a conjecture of Sárközy: the vertex set of every 2-edge-colored graph can be partitioned into at most 2α(G) monochromatic cycles, where α(G) denotes the independence number of G. Another direction, emerged recently from a conjecture of Schelp, is to consider colorings of graphs with given minimum degree. We prove that apart from o(|V (G)|) vertices, the vertex set of any 2-edge-colored graph G with minimum degree at least \(\tfrac{{(1 + \varepsilon )3|V(G)|}} {4}\) can be covered by the vertices of two vertex disjoint monochromatic cycles of distinct colors. Finally, under the assumption that \(\bar G\) does not contain a fixed bipartite graph H, we show that in every 2-edge-coloring of G, |V (G)| ? c(H) vertices can be covered by two vertex disjoint paths of different colors, where c(H) is a constant depending only on H. In particular, we prove that c(C 4)=1, which is best possible.  相似文献

A dominating set of vertices S of a graph G is connected if the subgraph G[S] is connected. Let γc(G) denote the size of any smallest connected dominating set in G. A graph G is k-γ-connected-critical if γc(G)=k, but if any edge is added to G, then γc(G+e)?k-1. This is a variation on the earlier concept of criticality of edge addition with respect to ordinary domination where a graph G was defined to be k-critical if the domination number of G is k, but if any edge is added to G, the domination number falls to k-1.A graph G is factor-critical if G-v has a perfect matching for every vertex vV(G), bicritical if G-u-v has a perfect matching for every pair of distinct vertices u,vV(G) or, more generally, k-factor-critical if, for every set SV(G) with |S|=k, the graph G-S contains a perfect matching. In two previous papers [N. Ananchuen, M.D. Plummer, Matching properties in domination critical graphs, Discrete Math. 277 (2004) 1-13; N. Ananchuen, M.D. Plummer, 3-factor-criticality in domination critical graphs, Discrete Math. 2007, to appear [3].] on ordinary (i.e., not necessarily connected) domination, the first and third authors showed that under certain assumptions regarding connectivity and minimum degree, a critical graph G with (ordinary) domination number 3 will be factor-critical (if |V(G)| is odd), bicritical (if |V(G)| is even) or 3-factor-critical (again if |V(G)| is odd). Analogous theorems for connected domination are presented here. Although domination and connected domination are similar in some ways, we will point out some interesting differences between our new results for the case of connected domination and the results in [N. Ananchuen, M.D. Plummer, Matching properties in domination critical graphs, Discrete Math. 277 (2004) 1-13; N. Ananchuen, M.D. Plummer, 3-factor-criticality in domination critical graphs, Discrete Math. 2007, to appear [3].].  相似文献

For any vertex x of a graph G let Δ(x) denote the set of vertices adjacent to x. We seek to describe the connected graphs G which are regular of valence n and in which for all adjacent vertices x and y |Δ(x) ∩ Δ(y)| = n ? 1 ? s. It is known that the complete graphs are the graphs for which s = 0. For any s, any complete many-partite graph, each part containing s + 1 vertices, is such a graph. We show that these are the only such graphs for which the valence exceeds 2s2 ? s + 1. The graphs satisfying these conditions for s = 1 or 2 are characterized (up to the class of trivalent triangle-free graphs.)  相似文献
