A new Yb-doped oxyorthosilicate laser crystal, Yb:Gd2SiO5 (Yb:GSO), has been grown by the Czochralski (Cz) method. The crystal structure was determined by means of X-ray diffraction analysis. Room temperature absorption and fluorescence spectra of Yb3+ ions in GSO crystal were measured. Then, spectroscopic parameters of Yb:GSO were calculated and compared with those of another Yb-doped oxyorthosilicate crystal Yb:YSO. Results indicated that Yb:GSO crystal seemed to be a very promising laser gain media in generating ultra-pulses and tunable solid state laser applications. As expected, the output power of 2.72 W at 1089 nm was achieved in Yb:GSO crystal with absorbed power of only 4.22 W at 976 nm, corresponding to the slope efficiency of 71.2% through the preliminary laser experiment. 相似文献

The objective of this study was to identify a material suitable to absorb radiation at the wavelength of neodymium-doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (Y3Al5O12:YAG), 1064 nm. M-(M= Sm3+, Co2+, Co3+, Cr3+, and Cr4+) doped highly transparent YAG ceramics were fabricated, and their absorption spectra were measured. Unlike Co2+ and Cr3+-doped ceramic samples, Co3+ and Cr4+ and Sm3+-doped:YAG ceramics were found to have significant absorption at 1064 nm. However, the Sm3+-doped YAG clearly emerged as the best candidate because it is also transparent at 808 nm, the pumping wavelength laser diode (LD), and also at most absorption bands used for flash-lamp pumping. 相似文献

crystal with the size up to Φ 13 mm×44 mm was grown successfully by the Czochralski technique and its optical properties were presented. The absorption cross-section and emission cross-section were presented. Also, the potential laser gain near 1.9 μm was investigated. In the framework of the Judd-Ofelt (J-O) theory, the intensity parameters were calculated to be: Ω2=11.375×10−20 cm2, Ω4=5.077×10−20 cm2 and Ω6=6.524×10−20 cm2. The spectroscopic parameters of this crystal such as the oscillator strengths, radiative transition probabilities, radiative lifetime as well as the branching ratios were calculated, too. Influence of proton exchange and annealing on the photorefractive properties of Fe:LiNbO3 crystals has been investigated using two-wave coupling phenomena. The two-wave coupling phenomena results in microscopic interference pattern inside the sample which subsequently helps in the formation of refractive index grating. The diffraction efficiency of the crystal increases after proton exchange, whereas the reverse is observed on annealed samples. The former is attributed to an increase of extraordinary refractive index of the crystal, while the latter to the oxidization of Fe2+ to Fe3+. 相似文献

Beta gallium oxide (β-Ga2O3) single crystals were grown by the floating zone technique. The absorption spectra and the luminescence of the crystals were measured. The absorption spectra showed an intrinsic short cutoff edge around 260 nm with two shoulders at 270 and 300 nm. Not only the characteristic UV (395 nm), blue (471 nm) and green (559 nm) lights, but also the red (692 nm) light can be seen in the emission spectra. The deep UV light was attributed to the existing of quantum wells above the valence band and the red light was owed to the electron-hole recombination via the vicinity donors and acceptors. 相似文献

Erbium-doped single crystal fibers, with low phonon energy and fairly high absorption and emission cross sections are interesting laser active media, for compact, near-infrared and/or upconversion lasers. In this work, high optical quality Er3+-doped CaNb2O6 and CaTa2O6 single crystal fibers were successfully grown by the versatile laser-heated pedestal growth technique, and characterized from the structural and spectroscopic points of view. The results indicate that these crystal fiber compositions, which had not been explored so far, offer potential applications, not only as laser active media, but also in other optical devices. 相似文献

Polarized downconversion, 980-nm-upconversion and near-infrared emission characteristics of vapor-transport-equilibrated (VTEed) bulk Er (0.4 mol%)/MgO (6 mol%)-codoped LiNbO3 crystals were investigated. The downconversion and upconversion visible emissions display similar VTE effects including the drop of emission intensity and the weakening of polarization dependence. At 0.98 and 1.5 μm regions, the VTE has a weak effect on the emission intensity, but a strong effect on the spectral shape. The crystalline phases in these bulk Er/Mg-codoped VTE crystals are determined by comparing their infrared emission characteristics with those of pure ErNbO4 powder and locally Er-doped MgO (4.5 mol%):LiNbO3 crystal. The results show that the Er3+ ions present in these bulk Er/Mg-codoped VTE crystals as a mixture of Er:LiNbO3 and ErNbO4 phases. The percentages of the ErNbO4 phase contained in these VTE crystals were evaluated from the 1531 and 1536 nm characteristic absorption areas. The Tm3+/Er3+:NaGd(MoO4)2 crystal with dimensions of Φ22×30 mm3 was grown by Czochralski method. Polarized spectra and fluorescence lifetime for the 4I13/2(Er3+)→4I15/2(Er3+) transition at room temperature were investigated. Based on the Judd-Ofelt theory, the spontaneous transition probabilities, the fluorescent branching ratios and the radiative lifetimes were calculated. The fluorescence lifetime was measured to be 1.81 ms. The detailed excited-transition mechanism with 800 nm radiation is also discussed. 相似文献

This paper reports polarized spectral properties and energy levels of Cr3+ in KAl(MoO4)2 crystal. The absorption and emission cross sections are estimated as 3.72×10-20 cm2 at 669 nm and 2.74×10-20 cm-2 at 823 nm for σ-polarization, respectively. The energy levels of Cr3+ ion in KAl(MoO4)2 crystal were calculated based on the Tanabe-Sugano theory. It is suggested that Cr3+ ions occupy at an intermediate crystal field site in Cr3+:KAl(MoO4)2. 相似文献

Yb3+-doped La2(WO4)3 single crystals were grown by the Czochralski technique. Absorption and fluorescence spectra of the crystal were recorded at the room temperature. The stimulated emission cross-sections of Yb3+ ions were calculated using the reciprocity method and Fuchtbauer-Ladenburg formula, respectively. The fluorescence decay curves of 2F5/2 manifold of Yb3+ ions were recorded at room temperature for both crystal and powder samples. The effect of radiation trapping on the spectroscopic properties is discussed. Comparison with other Yb3+-doped laser crystals is made. The results show that Yb3+:La2(WO4)3 crystal is a promising laser material. 相似文献

We have fabricated Cr3+ and Nd3+ co-doped YAG (Cr;Nd:YAG) ceramics, and investigated their optical properties and laser characteristics. The Cr;Nd:YAG has two broad absorption bands at around 440 nm (4A2→4T1) and 600 nm (4A2→4T2) respectively, caused by Cr3+ ions. In the case of pumping at 440 nm, the maximum effective lifetime of the Cr;Nd:YAG was 737 μs with a 0.1 at% Cr3+ and 1.0 at% Nd3+ co-doped YAG sample. Cr3+ ions take a role of an effective sensitizer to convert the UV light of flashlamp. For single-shot laser operation, a 10.4 J output energy at 1064 nm was obtained with 0.1 at% Cr3+ and 1.0 at% Nd3+ co-doped YAG ceramic rod with a laser efficiency of 4.9%. The laser efficiency was found to be more than twice that of a 1.0 at % Nd3+:YAG ceramic rod. 相似文献

The Cr3+-doped Y3Al5O12 (YAG) nanocrystalline powders were prepared by the Pechini method. The structural and phase evolution studies were performed using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) method. The TEM images were taken in order to characterize the grain size and morphology of the Cr:YAG nanocrystals. Their excitation and luminescence spectra were investigated. It was found that luminescence properties of the Cr:YAG nanocrystals were strongly affected by size of the particles. With increasing the grain size the electron-phonon coupling decreases whereas the crystal-field strength increases. 相似文献

We have demonstrated efficient frequency doubling of high-energy fundamental Nd:YAG laser pulse energy of the multi-joule (J) level at a high repetition rate using high optical-quality top-seeded solution growth CsB3O5(TSSG-CBO) crystal for the first time. Second-harmonic (532 nm) generation (SHG) output energy of 1.2 J at 10 Hz is obtained with a conversion efficiency of 60%. This result has been obtained at the multi-J level by the growth of high optical-quality TSSG-CBO crystal with the large effective nonlinear coefficient and high damage threshold. These results indicate that TSSG-CBO is a good candidate material for high-energy SHG of Nd-doped lasers at the several J level or more with high repetition rate. 相似文献

Vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) luminescence from a Nd3+:(La1−x,Bax)F3−x (x=0.1) and a Nd3+:LaF3 single crystal grown by the micro-pulling-down method modified for fluoride crystal growth is discussed. Emission resulting from excitation with 157 nm pulses of a F2 laser and by 290 nm femtosecond pulses of a Ti:sapphire laser show that the luminescence spectral and temporal characteristics are similar for both excitation cases and that they have good prospects as a VUV laser material. 相似文献

Near stoichiometric LiNbO3 crystal wafers of thickness up to 2 mm were prepared by vapour transport equilibration technique (VTE) at various process temperatures. Crystals were characterised by measurement of the UV absorption edge, refractive index, second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency, and conoscopy pattern analysis. The comparison of VTE treated crystals show that the blue shift in cut off wavelength occurred with the increasing process temperature (i.e. increasing Li/Nb ratio). The refractive indices were found decreasing with increasing process temperature of VTE samples. The SHG efficiency increases in the range of 1.98-2.3 times for the VTE processed samples with respected to congruent crystals. Thermal effect control is critical to scale the output power of diode end-pumping solid lasers to several watts up and beyond. Diffusion bonding crystal has been demonstrated to be an effective method to relieve the thermal lens for the end-pumping laser crystal. The temperature distribution and thermal lens in Nd:YVO4/YVO4 composite crystal was numerically analyzed and compared with that of Nd:YVO4 crystal in this paper. The end-pumping Nd:YVO4/YVO4 composite crystal laser was set up and tested with z cavity. The maximum output power of 9.87 W at 1064 nm and 6.14 W at 532 nm were obtained at the pumping power of 16.5 W. The highest optical-optical conversion efficiencies were up to 60% at 1064 nm and 40% at 532 nm, respectively. 相似文献

Passively Q-switched c-cut Nd:Gd0.63Y0.37VO4 laser performance at 1.06 μm was demonstrated with Cr4+:YAG as saturable absorbers for the first time to our knowledge. This c-cut mixed crystal was found to have large energy storage capacity. The shortest pulse width, largest pulse energy, and highest peak power were obtained to be 6.6 ns, 201.7 μJ, and 30.6 kW, respectively. 相似文献

A new nonlinear optical material glycine potassium sulphate (GPS) has been synthesized and optical quality crystals were grown from aqueous solution. This material has positive temperature coefficient revealed from the solubility studies. The grown crystals were characterized by employing several techniques such as single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, thermo gravimetric analysis, FTIR and UV-vis-NIR spectra. Picosecond pulse generation at 1050 nm by a diode-pumped Nd:BaY2F8 (Nd:BaYF) active crystal has been investigated under low-power pumping (440 mW absorbed). The sample was oriented along the optical axes and cut at Brewster angle for y-axis laser polarization to minimize birefringence effects. Stable passive mode-locking operation has been achieved by inverse saturable absorption with 80-mW output power and 3.7-ps pulses. 相似文献
