This paper reviews the authors' recent studies on compressible turbulence by using direct numerical simulation (DNS),including DNS of isotropic(decaying) turbulence, turbulent mixing-layer,turbulent boundary-layer and shock/boundary-layer interaction.Turbulence statistics, compressibility effects, turbulent kinetic energy budget and coherent structures are studied based on the DNS data. The mechanism of sound source in turbulent flows is also analyzed. It shows that DNS is a powerful tool for the mechanistic study of compressible turbulence.  相似文献

Jet impingement onto a hole with elevated wall temperature can be associated with the high‐temperature thermal drilling, where the gas jet is used for shielding the hole wall from the high‐temperature oxidation reactions as observed in the case of laser drilling. In laser processing, the molten flow from the hole wall occurs; and in the model study, the hole wall velocity resembling the molten flow should be accounted for. In the present study, gas jet impingement onto tapered hole with elevated temperature is considered and the heat transfer rates as well as skin friction at the hole wall surface are predicted. The velocity of molten flow from the hole wall determined from the previous study is adopted in the simulations and the effect of hole wall velocity on the heat transfer rates and skin friction is also examined. It is found that the Nusselt number and skin friction at the hole wall in the regions of hole inlet and exit attain high values. The influence of hole wall velocity on the Nusselt number and skin friction is found not to be very significant. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Heat transfer characteristics to turbulent pulsating pipe flows under a wide range of Reynolds number and pulsation frequency were experimentally investigated under uniform heat flux condition. Reynolds number was varied from 8462 to 48540 while the frequency of pulsation ranged from 1 to 29.5 Hz. The results showed that the relative mean Nusselt number is strongly affected by both pulsation frequency and Reynolds number. Enhancements in mean Nusselt number of up to 50% were obtained at medium pulsation frequency between 4.1 and 13.9 Hz for Reynolds number range of 8462 to 14581. An enhancement of up to 50% in mean Nusselt number was obtained at high pulsation frequency range between 13.9 and 29.5 Hz, specially as Reynolds number is close to 15000, while a reduction was observed at higher Reynolds number more than 21200. This reduction, at high Reynolds number, increased as pulsation frequency increased. Also, there was a reduction in mean Nusselt number of up to 20% that obtained at low pulsation frequency range between 1 and 4.1 Hz for Reynolds number range of 8462 to 48543. A significant reduction in mean Nusselt number of up to 40% was obtained at medium pulsation frequency between 4.1 and 13.9 Hz for Reynolds number range of 21208 to 48543. Empirical equations have been developed for the relative mean Nusselt number that related to Reynolds number and dimensionless frequency with about uncertainty of 10% rms.The support of both King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals and Cairo University for this research is acknowledged.  相似文献

Shock-capturing and broad-bandwidth scale resolutions are two main challenges of compressible turbulent flow simulation. To meet the rigorous requests, a novel fifth-order hybrid scheme based on a uniform hybrid framework is designed. With the help of a continuous weight operator, the new scheme combines an upwind compact scheme for smooth regions and a compact-reconstruction weighted essentially non-oscillatory scheme for discontinuous regions. Numerical analyses and canonical numerical tests confirm that the new scheme has high accuracy, spectral-like resolution property and shock-capturing capability. Besides, the new scheme shows high computational efficiency compared to the related shock-capturing schemes and hybrid ones.  相似文献

Differently from most previous studies, the heat transfer and friction characteristics of the pure refrigerant HFC-134a during evaporation inside a vertical corrugated tube are experimentally investigated. The double tube test sections are 0.5 m long with refrigerant flowing in the inner tube and heating water flowing in the annulus. The inner tubes are one smooth tube and two corrugated tubes, which are constructed from smooth copper tube of 8.7 mm inner diameter. The test runs are performed at evaporating temperatures of 10, 15, and 20 °C, heat fluxes of 20, 25, and 30 kW/m2, and mass fluxes of 200, 300, and 400 kg/m2 s. The quality of the refrigerant in the test section is calculated using the temperature and pressure obtained from the experiment. The pressure drop across the test section is measured directly by a differential pressure transducer. The effects of heat flux, mass flux, and evaporation temperature on the heat transfer coefficient and two-phase friction factor are also discussed. It is found that the percentage increases of the heat transfer coefficient and the two-phase friction factor of the corrugated tubes compared with those of the smooth tube are approximately 0-10% and 70-140%, respectively.  相似文献

The time-split finite element method is extended to compute laminar and turbulent flows with and without separation. The examples considered are the flows past trailing edges of a flat plate and a backward-facing step. Eddy viscosity models are used to represent effects of turbulence. It is found that the time-split method produces results in agreement with previous experimental and computational results. The eddy viscosity models employed are found to give accurate predictions in all regions of flow except downstream of reattachment.  相似文献

The paper describes a method for solving numerically two-dimensional or axisymmetric, and three-dimensional turbulent internal flow problems. The method is based on an implicit upwinding relaxation scheme with an arbitrarily shaped conservative control volume. The compressible Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations are solved with a two-equation turbulence model. All these equations are expressed by using a non-orthogonal curvilinear co-ordinate system. The method is applied to study the compressible internal flow in modern power installations. It has been observed that predictions for two-dimensional and three-dimensional channels show very good agreement with experimental results.  相似文献

The performance of the analytical wall-function (AWF) of Craft et al. [Craft, T.J., Gerasimov, A.V., Iacovides, H., Launder, B.E., 2002, Progress in the generalisation of wall-function treatments. Int. J. Heat Fluid Flow 23, 148–160.] is improved for predicting turbulent heat transfer in recirculating and impinging flows. Since constant parameters of the eddy viscosity formula were used to derive the AWF, the prediction accuracy of the original AWF tends to deteriorate in complex flows where those parameters need changing according to the local turbulence. To overcome such shortcomings, the present study introduces a functional behaviour on the strain parameter into the coefficient of the eddy viscosity of the AWF. The presently modified version of the AWF is validated in turbulent heat transfer of pipe flows, channel flows, back-step flows, pipe flows with abrupt expansion and plane impinging slot jets. The results confirm that the present modification successfully improves the performance of the original AWF for all the flows and heat transfer tested.  相似文献

An experimental investigation on the convective heat transfer and friction factor characteristics in the plain and helically dimpled tube under turbulent flow with constant heat flux is presented in this work using CuO/water nanofluid as working fluid. The effects of the dimples and nanofluid on the Nusselt number and the friction factor are determined in a circular tube with a fully developed turbulent flow for the Reynolds number in the range between 2500 and 6000. The height of the dimple/protrusion was 0.6 mm. The effect of the inclusion of nanoparticles on heat transfer enhancement, thermal conductivity, viscosity, and pressure loss in the turbulent flow region were investigated. The experiments were performed using helically dimpled tube with CuO/water nanofluid having 0.1%, 0.2% and 0.3% volume concentrations of nanoparticles as working fluid. The experimental results reveal that the use of nanofluids in a helically dimpled tube increases the heat transfer rate with negligible increase in friction factor compared to plain tube. The experimental results showed that the Nusselt number with dimpled tube and nanofluids under turbulent flow is about 19%, 27% and 39% (for 0.1%, 0.2% and 0.3% volume concentrations respectively) higher than the Nusselt number obtained with plain tube and water. The experimental results of isothermal pressure drop for turbulent flow showed that the dimpled tube friction factors were about 2-10% higher than the plain tube. The empirical correlations developed for Nusselt number and friction factor in terms of Reynolds number, pitch ratio and volume concentration fits with the experimental data within ±15%.  相似文献

This paper deals with the study of boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a visco-elastic fluid immersed in a porous medium over a non-isothermal stretching sheet. The fluid viscosity is assumed to vary as a function of temperature. The presence of variable viscosity of the fluid leads to the coupling and the non-linearity in the boundary value problem. A numerical shooting algorithm for two unknown initial conditions with fourth-order Runge-Kutta integration scheme has been used to solve the coupled non-linear boundary value problem. An analysis has been carried out for two different cases namely (1) prescribed surface temperature (PST), and (2) prescribed heat flux (PHF), to get the effect of fluid viscosity, permeability parameter and visco-elastic parameter for various situations. The important finding of our study is that the effect of fluid viscosity parameter is to decrease the wall temperature profile significantly when flow is through a porous medium. Further, the effect of permeability parameter is to decrease the skin friction on the sheet.  相似文献

This paper develops and analyses individual construction aspects of an efficient and accurate finite element algorithm for prediction of viscous and turbulent flow fields of impact in aerodynamics. The theoretical construction employs a Taylor weak statement (TWS) for coincident embedding of stability mechanisms within a classic Galerkin finite element formulation of semi-discrete approximation error orthogonalization. A wide variety of the stabilizing mechanisms of independently derived CFD algorithms are contained within the TWS theory. An implicit construction that meets the requirement of efficient convergence to steady state is developed. The theoretical asymptotic error estimates of the TWS finite element algorithm for supersonic and viscous boundary layer flows are verified. Application to a three-dimensional turbulent flow is cited.  相似文献

A continuous surface stretched with velocity u w=u w (x) and having the temperature distribution T w=T w (x) interacts with the viscous fluid in which it is immersed both mechanically and thermally. The thermal interaction is characterized by the surface heat flux q w=q w (x) and the mechanical one by the skin friction τ ww (x). In the whole previous theoretical research concerned with such processes, either (u w and T w) or (u w and q w) have been prescribed as known boundary conditions. The goal of the present paper is to initiate the investigation of the boundary layer flows induced by stretching processes for which either (τ w and T w ) or (τ w and q w) are the prescribed quantities. The case of an isothermal surface stretched with constant skin friction, (τ w=const., T w=const. ≠ T ) is worked out in detail. The corresponding flow and heat transfer characteristics are compared to those obtained for the (well known) case of a uniformly moving isothermal surface (u w=const., T w=const. ≠ T ).  相似文献

In this study, a numerical model is developed to investigate the coupled compressible gas flow and heat transfer in a microchannel surrounded by solid media. To accommodate the varying flow cross-section, the compressible gas flow model is established in a non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinate system. An iterative numerical procedure is employed to solve the coupled heat transfer and gas flow equations. The computer code for the compressible gas flow is first validated against two test problems, and then extended by including the heat conduction in the solid media. The effect of the inlet Mach number on the Nusselt number is examined. It is found that the pressure difference from the pyrolysis front to the heated surface is induced essentially by the gas addition from the channel wall, instead from the pyrolysis front. The necessity of accounting for the gas compressibility is clearly demonstrated when severe heating is applied. The pressure distribution obtained along the channel axial direction is useful for further structural analysis of composite materials.  相似文献

A simple model is proposed to describe the main features of the complex phenomena that occur when a plane shock wave strikes a open-cell foam block. The complex two-phase interactions can be simplified using the experimental evidence that the foam face may be treated as a contact surface, that the length of the collapsed foam plug grows linearly in time, and that the gas pressure profile in the region between the head of the plug and the undisturbed material may be treated as being pseudo-stationary. These simplifications enable the prominent features of the compression process to be predicted for a variety of foam types. Analytical results for the reflected shock strength, foam front face velocity, transmitted wave velocity and strength, and maximum peak back wall pressures are presented.   相似文献

This paper investigates the rotating flow and heat transfer of a viscous fluid induced by a stretching surface. The nonlinear problem subject to a given skin friction at the boundary is solved. Analytic solution is obtained using homotopy analysis method. The velocity, temperature, and stretching velocity is calculated for different values of the rotation parameter (λ). The obtained results are compared with the well known results of rotating flow induced by a stretching surface by using four sets of boundary conditions. In this paper, an immersed boundary (IB) method is developed to simulate compressible turbulent flows governed by the Reynolds‐averaged Navier‐Stokes equations. The flow variables at the IB nodes (interior nodes in the immediate vicinity of the solid wall) are evaluated via linear interpolation in the normal direction to close the discrete form of the governing equations. An adaptive wall function and a 2‐layer wall model are introduced to reduce the near‐wall mesh density required by the high resolution of the turbulent boundary layers. The wall shear stress modified by the wall modeling technique and the no‐penetration condition are enforced to evaluate the velocity at an IB node. The pressure and temperature at an IB node are obtained via the local simplified momentum equation and the Crocco‐Busemann relation, respectively. The SST k ? ω and S‐A turbulence models are adopted in the framework of the present IB approach. For the Shear‐Stress Transport (SST) k ? ω model, analytical solutions in near‐wall region are utilized to enforce the boundary conditions of the turbulence equations and evaluate the turbulence variables at an IB node. For the S‐A model, the turbulence variable at an IB node is calculated by using the near‐wall profile of the eddy viscosity. In order to validate the present IB approach, numerical experiments for compressible turbulent flows over stationary and moving bodies have been performed. The predictions show good agreements with the referenced experimental data and numerical results.  相似文献
