We succeeded in fabricating nanoscale arrays of polymers based on hydroxylated poly(butyl methacrylate-b-glycidyl methacrylate) which was prepared via a novel atom-transfer radical polymerization technique. Nanosized latex particles of the copolymer were obtained in the tetrahydrofuran/toluene solvent system. By evaporation of the latex solution on a substrate, the ordered self-organization monolayer was formed. Rather regular, two-dimensional arrays of nanopaticles with diameters down to approximately 12 nm were observed by means of transmission electron microscopy. The regular nature of the arrays can be controlled well by depositing the monolayer at a lower temperature.  相似文献

A novel method of forming lipid bilayer membrane arrays on micropatterned polyelectrolyte film surfaces is introduced. Polyelectrolyte films were fabricated by the layer‐by‐layer technique on a silicon oxide surface modified with a 3‐aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) monolayer. The surface pKa value of the APTES monolayer was determined by cyclic voltammetry to be approximately 5.61, on the basis of which a pH value of 2.0 was chosen for layer‐by‐layer assembly. Micropatterned polyelectrolyte films were obtained by deep‐UV (254 nm) photolysis though a mask. Absorbed fluorescent latex beads were used to visualize the patterned surfaces. Lipid bilayer arrays were fabricated on the micropatterned surfaces by immersing the patterned substrates into a solution containing egg phosphatidylcholine vesicles. Fluorescence recovery after photobleaching studies yielded a lateral diffusion coefficient for probe molecules of 1.31±0.17 μm2 s?1 in the bilayer region, and migration of the lipid NBD PE in bilayer lipid membrane arrays was observed in an electric field.  相似文献

In this work, the poly(methacrylic acid‐coN‐isopropylacrylamide) thermosensitive composite hollow latex particles was synthesized by a three‐step reaction. The first step was to synthesize the poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐methacrylic acid) (poly(MMA‐MAA)) copolymer latex particles by the method of soapless emulsion polymerization. The second step was to polymerize methacrylic acid (MAA), N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm), and N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide in the presence of poly(MMA‐MAA) latex particles to form the linear poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐methacrylic acid)/crosslinking poly(methacrylic acid‐coN‐isopropylacrylamide) (poly(MMA‐MAA)/poly(MAA‐NIPAAm)) core–shell latex particles. In the third step, the core–shell latex particles were heated in the presence of ammonia solution to form the crosslinking poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) thermosensitive hollow latex particles. The morphologies of poly(MMA‐MAA)/poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) core–shell latex particles and poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) hollow latex particles were observed. The influences of crosslinking agent and shell composition on the lower critical solution temperature of poly(MMA‐MAA)/poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) core–shell latex particles and poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) hollow latex particles were, respectively, studied. Besides, the poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) thermosensitive hollow latex particles were used as carriers to load with the model drug, caffeine. The effect of various variables on the amount of caffeine loading and the efficiency of caffeine release was investigated. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Semiconductor nanoparticle/polystyrene latex composite materials   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Cadmium sulfide and cadmium selenide/cadmium sulfide core/shell nanoparticles stabilized with poly(cysteine acrylamide) have been bound to polystyrene (PS) latexes by three methods. First, anionic 5 nm diameter CdS particles were electrostatically attached to 130 nm surfactant-free cationic PS latexes to form stable dispersions when the amount of CdS particles was less than 10% of the amount required to form a monolayer on the surface of the PS particles or when the amount of CdS particles exceeded the amount required to form a monolayer on the PS particles. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed nanoparticles on the surface of the latex particles. Fluorescence spectra showed unchanged emission from the nanoparticles. Second, anionic, surfactant-free PS latexes were synthesized in the presence of CdS and CdSe/CdS nanoparticles. TEM showed monodisperse latex particles with trapped nanoparticles. Third, surfactant-stabilized latexes were synthesized by copolymerization of styrene with vinylbenzyl(trimethyl)ammonium chloride electrostatically bound to the CdSe/CdS nanoparticle surface. Brownian motion of the submicroscopic composite particles in water was detected by fluorescence microscopy.  相似文献

A novel biotinylated and enzyme‐immobilized nanobio device was prepared with heterobifunctional composite latex particles. Hemispherical poly(glycidyl methacrylate‐co‐divinylbenzene)/polystyrene [P(GMA‐DVB)/PSt] particles with epoxy and hydroxyl groups were prepared by soap‐free seeded emulsion polymerization with P(GMA‐DVB) seed particles. Hydroxyl groups were introduced to PSt chain terminals in the seeded stage by adding 2‐mercaptoethanol as a chain‐transfer agent. To obtain the desired hemispherical structure particles, we studied the effects of the preswelling process, the type and amount of solvents added in the seeded polymerization step, the weight ratio of the secondary monomer (styrene) to the seed particle (M/P), and the type of initiators. Under suitable conditions, heterobifunctional P(GMA‐DVB)/PSt was obtained, which was confirmed by observing the binding of streptavidin–colloidal gold with transmission electron microscopy (TEM). To obtain biotinylated and enzyme‐immobilized particles, 5‐(N‐succinimidyloxycarbonyl)pentyl D‐biotinamide was first reacted with the hydroxyl group on the PSt domain of the particle. Pyruvate kinase (PK) was then directly immobilized to the biotinylated particles through a reaction with the epoxy group in the PGMA domain. The monolayer of PK on the latex particle surface was considered to be formed by covalent binding. The activity of immobilized PK was almost conserved, even after being stored at 4 °C for 48 days. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 43: 562–574, 2005  相似文献

Latex blending is a strategy used to eliminate volatile organic compounds from latex coatings formulations. This paper focuses on the study of the drying kinetics of model hard/soft latex blends and the influence of the presence of carboxyl groups on these particles as well as the extent of neutralization of the carboxyl groups with different bases. The model latex blend was comprised of clean, well‐defined polystyrene hard and poly(n‐butyl methacrylate‐co‐n‐butyl acrylate) soft latex particles with monodisperse particle sizes, homogeneous copolymer composition, and independent control of particle size and carboxyl group content. Drying models are discussed. It was found that the presence of carboxyl groups in the latex particles retarded the drying rate of the model latex blends. When the carboxyl groups present in the latex blends with low carboxyl group coverage on polystyrene particles were neutralized by using ammonium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide, the drying rate increased. When the carboxyl groups present in the latex blends with a high carboxyl group coverage on polystyrene particles were neutralized by sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, or cesium hydroxide, the drying rate first decreased and then increased as the extent of the neutralization increased. However, the neutralization of these carboxyl groups with ammonium hydroxide increased the drying rate of the latex blends within a broad range of neutralization conditions (from 0 to 100%). A cluster model was proposed to explain these phenomena.  相似文献

A series of carboxylated acrylate copolymer latexes were prepared via two different emulsion polymerization technologies with different carboxylic‐group distribution and morphologies. The effects of the emulsifier, the initiator, and the carboxylic monomers [acrylic acid (AA) or monobutyl itaconate (MBI)] on the total conversion of the monomers and the properties of acrylate latexes and films have been investigated. The distribution of carboxylic groups (?COOH) measured by conductometric titration shows that the concentration of surface –COOH (Cs) and embedded –COOH (Cb) both increase with the increase of the amount of carboxylic monomers. For the latexes containing AA, –COOH tends to distribute on the surface of latex particles and in the aqueous phase, whereas –COOH tends to concentrate inside the core of latex particles for the latexes containing MBI. Transmission electron microscopy demonstrates that the latex particles are regular with narrow size distribution and have significant differences in morphologies when different carboxylic monomers and polymerization technologies were used. The stability of latex is satisfactory through the results of common stability and zeta potential tests. Moreover, the water absorption and contact angle experiment tests also revealed that the water resistance of the latex films is good. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this work, the poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐methacrylic acid)/poly(methacrylic acid‐co‐N‐isopropylacrylamide) thermosensitive composite semi‐hollow latex particles was synthesized by three processes. The first process was to synthesize the poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐methacrylic acid) (poly (MMA‐MAA)) copolymer latex particles by the method of soapless emulsion polymerization. The second process was to polymerize methacrylic acid (MAA), N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm), and crosslinking agent, N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide, in the presence of poly(MMA‐MAA) latex particles to form the linear poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐methacrylic acid)/crosslinking poly(methacrylic acid‐co‐N‐isopropylacrylamide) (poly(MMA‐MAA)/poly(MAA‐NIPAAm)) core–shell latex particles with solid structure. In the third process, part of the linear poly(MMA‐MAA) core of core–shell latex particles was dissolved by ammonia to form the poly(MMA‐MAA)/poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) thermosensitive semi‐hollow latex particles. The morphologies of the semi‐hollow latex particles show that there is a hollow zone between the linear poly(MMA‐MAA) core and the crosslinked poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) shell. The crosslinking agent and shell composition significantly influenced the lower critical solution temperature of poly(MMA‐MAA)/poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) semi‐hollow latex particles. Besides, the poly(MMA‐MAA)/poly(MAA‐NIPAAm) thermosensitive semi‐hollow latex particles were used as carriers to load with the model drug, caffeine. The processes of caffeine loaded into the semi‐hollow latex particles appeared four situations, which was different from that of solid latex particles. In addition, the phenomenon of caffeine released from the semi‐hollow latex particles was obviously different from that of solid latex particles. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Following previous works [1, 2], silica–polystyrene core–shell particles have been synthesized by dispersion polymerization of styrene in an ethanol/water mixture in the presence of a poly(styrene-b-ethylene oxide) block copolymer as stabilizer. Besides the formation of composite core–shell particles, a large number of free latex particles that do not contain silica were also formed. This number decreases as the size of the silica beads decreases from 300 to 29 nm in diameter, and becomes very low compared to the number of composite particles for the smallest silica beads used. In every case, the composite particles could be easily separated from the free latex particles by centrifugation, providing a material made of regular core–shell composite particles. On the basis of the mechanisms involved in dispersion polymerization, hypotheses were formulated to account for the formation of the silica–polystyrene composite particles. Poly(acrylic acid‐co‐sodium acrylate)/zinc oxide, P(AA‐SA)/ZnO, composite latex particles were synthesized by inverse miniemulsion polymerization. The ZnO nanoparticles were prepared by hydrothermal synthesis and undergone oleic acid (OA) surface treatment. The X‐ray diffraction pattern and FT‐IR spectra characterized the crystal structure and functional groups of OA‐ZnO nanoparticles. An appropriate formulation in preparing P(AA‐SA) latex particles, ensuring the dominant in situ particle nucleation and growth, was developed in our experiment first. Sodium hydroxide was chosen as a costabilizer, because of its ability to increase the deprotonation of acylic acid and enhance the hydrophilicity of monomer, acrylic acid besides providing osmotic pressure. The growth mechanism of P(AA‐SA)/ZnO composite particles was proposed. The OA‐ZnO nanoparticles were adsorbed on or around the surface of P(AA‐SA) latex particles by hydrophobic interaction, thus enhanced the interfacial tension over latex particles. The P(AA‐SA)/ZnO composite latex particles owned better thermal stability than pure latex particles. The pH regulation capacity was excellent for both ZnO and P(AA‐SA) particles. Combining P(AA‐SA) and ZnO nanoparticles into composite particles, the performance in pH regulation and UV shielding was discussed from our experimental results. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Highly ordered hexagonal arrays of latex spheres on highly ordered pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) have been prepared from a Langmuir-Blodgett-like (LB-like) technique using both polymers and surfactants as spreading agents. The role of spreading agent concentration in forming a well-ordered, stable monolayer at the air-liquid interface was studied by means of atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, optical microscopy, and surface tension measurements for three different systems: a nonionic surfactant, octylphenoxy poly(ethyleneoxy)ethanol (Igepal CO 630); an anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate; and a low-molecular-weight, water-soluble polymer, polyacrylamide. For both the anionic surfactant and the water soluble polymer, a correlation was found between a unique feature in surface tension measurements of the latex-spreading agent mixture and the concentrations at which hexagonal arrays of latex spheres form on the surface of HOPG. For the nonionic surfactant, no ordered structures were found on HOPG for any surfactant concentration, consistent with no appearance of the unique feature in surface tension measurements. These results show that a tensiometer can be used to determine the conditions under which well-ordered latex films have the possibility of forming on a substrate using the LB-like technique; however, other factors, such as pulling speed and surface chemistry, play a role as well.  相似文献

We demonstrated the formation of single-crystal-like materials that contain preferentially oriented arrays of lead zirconate titanate (PZT) cube-shaped particles by self-assembly. Hydrothermally synthesized PZT particles with a bulk composition of Zr/Ti = 70/30 were used in making microcrystal arrays. Spreading a suspension containing PZT cube-shaped particles, 2-propanol, and mineral oil at the air-water interface produced a one-dimensional planar array of PZT particles on the water surface. The array so formed was subsequently transferred onto a flat or curved substrate. X-ray diffraction and electron backscattered diffraction analyses revealed that most of the cube-shaped particles in the array were oriented with their pseudocubic (001) direction aligned parallel to the normal direction of the substrate surface. Filling the arrays with matrixes produced monolayer or multilayer textured composites. The piezoelectric properties of oriented cube-shaped micron-sized particles in the self-assembled arrays were measured using a modified atomic force microscope to reveal the ferroelectric nature of the PZT arrays.  相似文献

In this study, the poly(NIPAAm–MAA)/Fe3O4 hollow latex particles were synthesized by three steps. The first step was to synthesize the poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐methylacrylate acid) (poly(MMA‐MAA)) copolymer latex particles by the method of soapless emulsion polymerization. Following the first step, the second step was to polymerize N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm), MAA, and crosslinking agent (N,N'‐methylene‐bisacrylamide (MBA)) in the presence of poly(MMA‐MAA) latex particles to form the linear poly(MMA‐MAA)/crosslinking poly (NIPAAm‐MAA) core‐shell latex particles. After the previous processes, the core‐shell latex particles were heated in the presence of NH4OH to dissolve the linear poly(MMA‐MAA) core in order to form the poly(NIPAAm‐MAA) hollow latex particles. In the third step, Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions were introduced to bond with the ? COOH groups of MAA segments in the poly(NIPAAm‐MAA) hollow polymer latex particles. Further by a reaction with NH4OH and then Fe3O4 nanoparticles were generated in situ and the poly(NIPAAm‐MAA)/Fe3O4 magnetic composite hollow latex particles were formed. The concentrations of MAA, crosslinking agent (N,N'‐methylene bisacrylamide), and Fe3O4 nanoparticles were important factors to influence the morphology of hollow latex particles and lower critical solution temperature of poly(NIPAAm–MAA)/Fe3O4 magnetic composite hollow latex particles. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, an iron oxide (Fe3O4)/polystyrene (PS)/poly(N‐isopropylacryl amide‐co‐methacrylic acid) [P(NIPAAM–MAA)] thermosensitive magnetic composite latex was synthesized by the method of two‐stage emulsion polymerization. The Fe3O4 particles were prepared by a traditional coprecipitation method and then surface‐treated with either a PAA oligomer or lauric acid to form a stable ferrofluid. The first stage for the synthesis of the thermosensitive magnetic composite latex was to synthesize PS in the presence of a ferrofluid by emulsion polymerization to form Fe3O4/PS composite latex particles. Following the first stage of reaction, the second stage of polymerization was carried out with N‐isopropylacryl amide and methacrylic acid as monomers and with Fe3O4/PS latex as seeds. The Fe3O4/PS/[P(NIPAAM–MAA)] thermosensitive magnetic particles were thus obtained. The effects of the ferrofluids on the reaction kinetics, morphology, and particle size of the latex were discussed. A reaction mechanism was proposed in accordance with the morphology observation of the latex particles. The thermosensitive property of the thermosensitive magnetic composite latex was also studied. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 45: 3062–3072, 2007  相似文献

A method whereby controlled arrays of hexagonally ordered monolayer islands of polystyrene particles can be deposited using a microspotter was demonstrated. The microparticle size could be varied from the micrometer to the sub-micrometer size range and the island size from less than 10 μm in diameter and up, allowing for direct combination of microarray patterning and parallel nanopatterning of each array spot. The particle monolayer arrays are easily combined with other recent developments in particle lithography of particular interest for biosensor and biointerface screening arrays.  相似文献

A novel technique of particle monolayer fabrication based on hydrophobic interactions in aqueous systems is described in this paper. When alkylated glass plates modified with various silane coupling agents were immersed in aqueous dispersions of submicron-sized polystyrene particles of cationic or anionic surface charges, cationic particle monolayers containing active ester groups were effectively formed at the plate surfaces, whereas no anionic particles were self-organized on the plate surfaces. The coverage of the plates with cationic particles and the morphology of the monolayers varied with the hydrophobicities of the particles and plates as well as with the ionic strength of the medium and temperature. For less hydrophobic methylated glass surfaces modified with methyltriethoxysilane, cationic particles were self-organized at relatively regular intervals, whereas they were self-organized in the form of aggregates for the more hydrophobic octadecylated glass plates treated with n-octadecyltriethoxysilane. Closely packed monolayers were fabricated by adjusting ionic strength and temperature. Fluorescence labelling of cationic particle monolayers was successfully accomplished by the reaction of remaining active ester groups on the monolayers with a fluorescence probe containing amino groups. Cationic particle monolayers were physically stabilized by heating above the glass transition temperature (T g) of the particles.  相似文献

The adsorption of nonionic surfactants of the alkyl-phenol-poly(ethylene oxide) family and of acrylic latex particles on several anhydrous (but hydrating) or fully hydrated mineral phases of Portland cement was studied. No or negligible adsorption of the surfactant was observed. This was assigned to the ionized character of the surface silanol groups in calcium-silicate-hydrates and to the strongly ionic character of the OH groups in calcium hydroxide and in the calcium-sulfoaluminate-hydrates, which prevents the formation of surface-ethoxy hydrogen bonds. In contrast, provided they are properly stabilized by the surfactant, the latex particles form a loose monolayer on the surface of hydrating tricalcium silicate particles. The attractive interaction between the positive mineral surface and the negative latex surface appears to be the driving force for adsorption. In line with this, adsorption is reduced by sulfate anions, which adsorb specifically onto the silicate surface. Compared to tricalcium silicate, portlandite and gypsum interact only marginally with the latex particles. Our results show that the stability of the nonionic surfactant/latex/cement systems is essentially controlled by the latex colloidal stability and the latex-cement interactions, the surfactant having little direct interaction, if any, with the mineral surfaces.  相似文献

Monodisperse, cationic polymer particles bearing quaternary ammonium groups effectively self-organized on hydrophobic solid substrates such as alkylated glass plates and polymer films to form particle monolayers. With an increase of the particle surface charge density, the surface coverage decreased and the morphology of particle monolayers changed from aggregated type to dispersed type. The dispersed type of particle monolayers having a relatively regular particle distance was formed at higher temperature. The self-organization behaviors on alkylated glass plates were different from those on unmodified glass plates through electrostatic interaction. The formation of particle monolayers on alkylated glass plates occurred only over a certain latex concentration range in contrast with that on unmodified glass plate. The adhesive strength of particle monolayers was enhanced by annealing at temperatures above the glass transition temperature (T g) of the particles. Lens-shaped particle monolayers were fabricated by annealing the dispersed type of particle monolayers.  相似文献
