Differential interferometry techniques (using the Wollaston prism) have been applied to a dynamic plasma to determine the radial and temporal distributions of temperature within the thermal boundary layer and the timewise distributions of the sizes of the thermal layer and the conducting core of the arc. Data are reported in the stagnation region of a dual flow orifice nozzle interrupter arrangement for a pulsed air plasma having a peak current of 2 kA with slope of 15 A/?s at current zero. The experimental results are in reasonable agreement with theory.  相似文献

The cathode spot formation in air within the first 170 ns was investigated by laser absorption photography and ps-pulse interferometry. The discharge was initiated between electrodes made from Ag or Pd with cathode-anode distance below 300 μm, the arc duration was some milliseconds, and the arc current 5-10 A. Picosecond holographic interferometry and momentary absorption photography yielded spatial-temporal density distributions in the ignition phase of the cathode spot. An absolute electron density value on the order of 4×1026 m-3 has been found. In contrast to vacuum, the cathode spot plasmas broaden little with increasing distance from the cathode, thus narrow plasma channels are observed in the vicinity of the cathode surface having diameters <20 μm  相似文献

The increase of the interrupting capability of modern SF6 puffer breakers demands a better knowledge of the interaction of the arc with the gas flow. During the current interruption in an SF6 breaker the arc temperature in the stagnation zone is of decisive importance. The temporal evolution of the arc temperature and the diameter is studied by means of interferometry and emission spectroscopy. Experimental results are presented which show the influence of the current slope and the gas pressure on the arc decay. These results are compared with a theoretical model describing the temperature decay after current interruption.  相似文献

Ultrasound-modulated optical tomography is a dual-wave sensing technique in which diffusive light in a turbid medium interacts with an imposed acoustic field. A phase-modulated photon field emanates from the interaction region and carries with it information about the optomechanical properties of the medium. We present a technique for detection of ultrasound-induced optical phase modulation using an adaptive, photorefractive-crystal-based interferometry system. Experimental results are presented demonstrating detection of ultrasound-modulated signals in highly scattering media by use of pulsed ultrasound insonation.  相似文献

The StaFF (stabilisation of final focus) system will use interferometers to monitor the relative positions and orientations of several key components in the beamdelivery and interaction region. Monitoring the relative positions of the ILC final focus quadrupole magnets will be the most demanding application, where mutual and beam-relative stability will have a direct impact on machine luminosity. Established, laser-based frequency scanning interferometry (FSI) and fixed-frequency interferometry (FFI) offer positional resolution at length scales of the laser wavelength (1500 nm to 1560 nm) and a thousandth of the wavelength, respectively. As part of the ATF at KEK, StaFF will use interferometers to measure lines of a geodetic network to record relative motion between two beam position monitors. Interferometers are being designed and tested in Oxford prior to deployment at the ATF.   相似文献

The role of the equivalence principle in the context of non-relativistic quantum mechanics and matter wave interferometry, especially atom beam interferometry, will be discussed. A generalised form of the weak equivalence principle which is capable of covering quantum phenomena too, will be proposed. It is shown that this generalised equivalence principle is valid for matter wave interferometry and for the dynamics of expectation values. In addition, the use of this equivalence principle makes it possible to determine the structure of the interaction of quantum systems with gravitational and inertial fields. It is also shown that the path of the mean value of the position operator in the case of gravitational interaction does fulfill this generalised equivalence principle.  相似文献

The concepts of fringe localization and visibility in classical broad source and hologram interferometry are discussed and a distinction is drawn between them. Experimental results are used to demonstrate that in general there is no unique region of localization in hologram interferometry. The expression for the maximum viewing aperture for observation of fringes of good contrast at the surface under study is verified.  相似文献

This paper reports the experimental investigation of the anode region of a free-burning inert-gas arc at atmospheric pressure in the current range from a few amperes to hundreds of amperes. The tungsten thermionic-emission cathode and the large-diameter water-cooled copper anode that were used permitted the anode arc root to assume its natural form. The general characteristics of the discharge are given and results are presented from investigations of the anode region at low currents, where the anode arc root is single and constricted, but erosion-free. Measurements of the plasma parameters as well as the current density in the arc root are reported, and a comparison is made between the values obtained and those characteristic of the region of the cathode arc root. The attachment mode of arc on anode is closely related to the non-equilibrium chemical kinetics process of the anode region of arc. In this paper, the detailed chemical reaction mechanisms in the flow-affected region for both diffuse and constricted argon arc attachments are investigated by means of one-dimensional discharge coupled with a single-fluid, two-temperature model. The collisional-radiative model is used to examine the chemical reaction processes occurring in the anode region, including the arc centreline and fringe region. The numerical results are validated by comparison with available experimental data. The obtained radial distributions of electron temperature, electron density, excited states densities, ionization, and recombination processes reveal that different mechanisms dominate the diffuse and constricted arc-anode attachments.  相似文献

We have used a tabletop soft-x-ray laser and a wave-front division interferometer to probe the plasma of a pinch discharge. A very compact capillary discharge-pumped Ne-like Ar laser emitting at 46.9 nm was combined with a wave division interferometer based on Lloyd's mirror and Sc-Si multilayer-coated optics to map the electron density in the cathode region of the discharge. This demonstration of the use of tabletop soft-x-ray laser in plasma interferometry could lead to the widespread use of these lasers in the diagnostics of dense plasmas.  相似文献

We present a technique for performing three-dimensional (3D) pattern recognition by use of in-line digital holography. The complex amplitude distribution generated by a 3D object at an arbitrary plane located in the Fresnel diffraction region is recorded by phase-shifting interferometry. The digital hologram contains information about the 3D object's shape, location, and orientation. This information allows us to perform 3D pattern-recognition techniques with high discrimination and to measure 3D orientation changes. Experimental results are presented.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the study of the arc restrike phenomenon in low-voltage circuit breakers. We focused our interest on the type of arc restrike that can be described as a sudden reignition in the arcing contact region while the arc was situated in the quenching chamber a few tens of microseconds before it occurs. Our experimental investigations have established that the critical arcing contact region is still crossed by a so called residual current on the order of several amperes. A gas temperature around 4200 K was derived from electrical measurements in this region before the arc restrike occurrence, We also demonstrate that the restrike takes place through the growth of the remaining current of several amperes in the arcing contact region. A numerical approach was carried out with a two-dimensional hydrodynamic code in order to simulate the gas behavior in the arcing contact region before and during the arc restrike phenomenon. The same temperature as the measured one is calculated just before the restrike. It is demonstrated that the current density appears to be the most sensible quantity. 电弧等离子体射流中的湍流是等离子体射流的典型物理现象之一,而以往的研究认为射流存在一个处于稳定状态的核心区域,也有人认为这个状态是层流的。本文采用电弧等离子光谱诊断及数字高速摄影的方法对常压电弧等离子体射流核进行了研究,采用了傅里叶变换的方法分析弧电压和射流光谱强度信号,发现电源的交流分量和阳极弧点运动对整个射流核的脉动特性都有体现,射流并不存在一个处于稳定状态的核心区域,相反谱线强度脉动图中可以看到,射流核的脉动是由电弧电压脉动造成的,这可能是射流核脉动的最主要原因。  相似文献

Mid-infrared ultrashort pulses of 9.2-microm center wavelength are characterized in both amplitude and phase. This is achieved by use of a variant of spectral phase interferometry for direct electric field reconstruction in which spectral interferometry has been replaced with time-domain interferometry, a technique that is well suited for infrared pulses. The setup permits simultaneous recording of the second-order interferometric autocorrelation, thus providing an independent check on the retrieved spectral phase.  相似文献

We report an accurate method to measure the group-velocity dispersion (GVD) of transparent materials by use of spectrally resolved phase-shifting interferometry. The GVD of silica glass slide measured using an eight-step phase-shifting algorithm agrees well with that calculated using the Sellmeier dispersion equation over the entire visible wavelength region, with a rms error of < or =0.0036 microm(-2), better than that of other measurement methods reported so far.  相似文献

A critical analysis of available experimental data and models of an anode spot formation shows their insufficiency for developing a clear-cut physical model of anode processes in a high-current vacuum arc. Based on new results of studying an anode medium- and low-pressure arc region, a qualitative physical model of an anode spot formation in a vacuum arc is proposed. The main idea of the model is that a change of the sign of the anode voltage drop (from negative to positive) is a necessary condition for an anode spot formation. Experimental data are qualitatively discussed from the point of view of the proposed model.  相似文献

In this paper, an analytical model for a two-temperature plasma (Te > Tg) is established which is suitable for dealing with arcflow interactions induced by the arc itself. This model is applied to the anode contraction region of high-intensity argon arcs taking the interaction of anode and cathode jets close to the anode into account. The complete set of conservation equations describing the mass, charge, momentum, and energy transport of a two-temperature plasma with temperature-dependent transport properties is solved numerically by an interative finite-difference method using appropriate boundary conditions. Results for an atmospheric-pressure argon arc indicate that the temperature discrepancy between electrons and heavy particles is very pronounced in the arc fringes and in the regions close to the anode, while the departure from kinetic equilibrium becomes insignificant in regions in which the temperature exceeds 12 000 K (i.e., in the arc core). The computed temperature fields of the heavy particles in the anode contraction region resemble the observed arc appearance which clearly shows the interaction of anode and cathode jets in front of the anode.  相似文献

This paper studies the anode region of an eroding anode with a nonstationary arc-root attachment. High-current free-burning short as well as long arcs at atmospheric pressure are investigated. A technique to study the anode region of the arc is suggested. An anode moving perpendicular to the arc axis was used for estimating parameters of the anode jets at a given moment of their development. The mechanism of current transfer in the anode region is considered on the basis of electrophysical and optical-spectroscopic investigations of the arc attachment traces and plasma parameters both of the anode jet and arc column. The anode jet was found to be of importance in the stationary arc operation. The near-anode plasma parameters depend on the effect of the cathode jet. In short arcs (La~2 mm), the plasma temperature at the anode exceeds 20000 K, while in long arcs (La >50 mm), it falls below 7000 K. At plasma temperature Ta >11000 K, the total arc current in the anode region is transferred through the arc plasma, while at lower temperatures, both the arc column and the anode jet take part in the current transfer  相似文献
