Let be a centered Gaussian measure on a separable Hilbert space (E, ). We are concerned with the logarithmic small ball probabilities around a -distributed center X. It turns out that the asymptotic behavior of –log (B(X,)) is a.s. equivalent to that of a deterministic function R (). These new insights will be used to derive the precise asymptotics of a random quantization problem which was introduced in a former article by Dereich, Fehringer, Matoussi, and Scheutzow.(8)  相似文献

Summary Let T be an infinite homogeneous tree of order a+1. We study Markov chains {X n} in T whose transition functions p(x, y)=A[d(x,y)] depend only on the shortest distance between x and y in the graph. The graph T can be represented as a symmetric space of a p-adic matrix group; we prove a series of results using essentially the spherical functions of this symmetric space. Theorem 1. d(X n,x) n a.s., where >0 if A(0) 1, X 0=x. Assuming {X n} is strongly aperiodic, Theorem 2. p 2(x, y)CRn/n3/2 for fixed x, y where R=(d) A(d)<1, and if E[d(X1, X0)2]<, Theorem 3. R(1–u, x, y) = (1–u)npn(x, y)=Ca–d[exp(–du/)+od(1)] as d=d(x,y) uniformly for 0u2. Using Theorem 3, we calculate the Martin boundary Dirichlet kernel of p(x, y) on T, which turns out to be independent of {itA(d)}. We also consider a stepping-stone model of a randomly-mating-and-migrating population on the nodes of T. If initially all individuals are distinct, then in generation n approximately half of the individuals of a given type are within n of a typical one and essentially all are within 2n.This work was partially supported by the National Science Foundation under grant number MCS 75-08098-A01For the academic year 1977–78: Department of Mathematics GN-50, University of Washington, Seattle, Washington 98195 USA  相似文献

Let X be a topological space, ( ) a net of Borel probability measures on X, and (t) a net in ]0,[ converging to 0. Let be a set of continuous functions such that for all x X that can be suitably distinguished by some continuous functions from any closed set not containing contains such a distinguishing function. Assuming that exists for all , we give a sufficient condition in order that ( ) satisfies a large deviation principle with powers (t) and not necessary tight rate function. When X is completely regular (not necessary Hausdorff), this condition is also necessary, and so strictly weaker than exponential tightness; this allows us to strengthen Brycs theorem in various ways. We give the general form of a rate function in terms of . A Prohorov-type theorem with a weaker notion than exponential tightness is obtained, which improves known results.  相似文献

It is well known that ifX andY are completely regularT 2 spaces, then any continuous function,f, fromX toY, has a unique continuous extension,(f), fromX toY, whereX andY are the Stone—ech compactifications ofX andY, respectively. This function plays an important role in Stone—ech Theory, especially in questions pertaining to embeddability. In this paper, we first extend this construction to general Wallman spaces, and then apply the results to extend well-known embeddability theorems.  相似文献

Suppose that U is the resolvent of a Borel right process on a Lusin space X. If is a U-excessive measure on X then we show by analytical methods that for every U-excessive measure with the Radon–Nikodym derivative d/d possesses a finely continuous version. (Fitzsimmons and Fitzsimmons and Getoor gave a probabilistic approach for this result.) We extend essentially a technique initiated by Mokobodzki and deepened by Feyel. The result allows us to establish a Revuz type formula involving the fine versions, and to study the Revuz correspondence between the -finite measures charging no set that is both -polar and -negligible (U being the potential component of ) and the strongly supermedian kernels on X. This is an analytic version of a result of Azéma, Fitzsimmons and Dellacherie, Maisonneuve and Meyer, in terms of additive functionals or homogeneous random measures. Finally we give an application to the context of the semi-Dirichlet forms, covering a recent result of Fitzsimmons.  相似文献

A set X of boundary points of a (possibly unbounded) convex body KE d illuminating K from within is called primitive if no proper subset of X still illuminates K from within. We prove that for such a primitive set X of an unbounded, convex set KE d (distinct from a cone) one has X=2 if d=2, X6 if d=3, and that there is no upper bound for X if d4.  相似文献

We study (set-valued) mappings of bounded -variation defined on the compact interval I and taking values in metric or normed linear spaces X. We prove a new structural theorem for these mappings and extend Medvedev's criterion from real valued functions onto mappings with values in a reflexive Banach space, which permits us to establish an explicit integral formula for the -variation of a metric space valued mapping. We show that the linear span GV (I;X) of the set of all mappings of bounded -variation is automatically a Banach algebra provided X is a Banach algebra. If h:I× X Y is a given mapping and the composition operator is defined by (f)(t)=h(t,f(t)), where tI and f:I X, we show that :GV (I;X) GV (I;Y) is Lipschitzian if and only if h(t,x)=h0(t)+h1(t)x, tI, xX. This result is further extended to multivalued composition operators with values compact convex sets. We prove that any (not necessarily convex valued) multifunction of bounded -variation with respect to the Hausdorff metric, whose graph is compact, admits regular selections of bounded -variation.  相似文献

Let X and Y be metrizable spaces. We show that, for a mapping f : X Y, there exists a quasi-metric X inducing the topology of X such that f regarded as a mapping from (X, max{, –1}) to Y is continuous if and only if f in the original topology of X is a -discrete map of Borel class 1. Further, we prove that, for every -discrete mapping f: X Y of Borel class + 1, there exists a compatible quasi-metric on X such that f : (X, max{, –1}) Y is of Borel class . We also investigate a more general situation when the range of the mapping under consideration is not necessarily metrizable. In passing, we obtain some results related to the behaviour of absolutely Borel sets and absolutely analytic spaces with respect to compatible quasi-metrics.  相似文献

Let LSC(X) be the set of the proper lower semicontinuous extended real-valued functions defined on a metric spaceX. Given a sequence f n in LSC(X) and a functionf LSC(X), we show that convergence of f n tof in several variational convergence modes implies that for each , the sublevel set at height off is the limit, in the same variational sense, of an appropriately chosen sequence of sublevel sets of thef n, at height n approaching . The converse holds true whenever a form of stability of the sublevel sets of the limit function is verified. The results are obtained by regarding a hyperspace topology as the weakest topology for which each member of an appropriate family of excess functionals is upper semicontinuous, and each member of an appropriate family of gap functionals is lower semicontinuous. General facts about the representation of hyperspace topologies in this manner are given.  相似文献

Summary Any coveringYX of a hyperbolic Riemann surfaceX of finite area determines an inclusion of Teichmüller spaces Teich(X)Teich(Y). We show this map is an isometry for the Teichmüller metric if the covering isamenable, and contracting otherwise. In particular, we establish <1 for classical Poincaré series (Kra's Theta conjecture). The appendix develops the theory of geometric limits of quadratic differentials, used in this paper and a sequel.Research partially supported by an NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship  相似文献

Given a metrizable compact convex setX of a locally convex Hausdorff space, a positive projectionT:C(X, )C(X, ) and a continuous function :X[0, 1], it is shown that under suitable assumptions there exists a positive contraction semigroup onC(X, ) that can be represented in terms of the Lototsky-Schnabl operators associated withT and . Several properties of this semigroup are investigated. In particular, its infinitesimal generator is determined in a core of its domain. WhenX p for somep1, then the generator is shown to be a degenerate elliptic second order differential operator.Dedicated to Professor George Maltese on the occasion of his 60th birthday  相似文献

Let X={X(t):tR} be a Lévy process and a non-decreasing, right continuous, bounded function with (–)=0 (((1+u 2)/u 2)d(u) is the Lévy measure). In this paper we define the Donsker delta function (X(t)–a), t>0 and aR, as a generalized Lévy functional under the condition that (0)–(0–)>0. This leads us to define F(X(t)) for any tempered distribution F, and as an application, we derive an Itô formula for F(X(t)) when has jumps at 0 and 1.  相似文献

We pursue the fine analysis of the quasi-orderings and on the power set of a quasi-ordering (Q,). We set X Y if every xX is majorized in by some yY, and X Y if every yY is minorized in by some xX. We show that both these quasi-orderings are -wqo if and only if the original quasi-ordering is ( )-wqo. For this holds also restricted to finite subsets, thus providing an example of a finitary operation on quasi-orderings which does not preserve wqo but preserves bqo.  相似文献

For X,Y,>0, let and define I 8(X,Y,) to be the cardinality of the set. In this paper it is shown that, for >0, Y 2/X 3=O(), =O(Y 3/X 3) and X=O (Y 2), one has I 8(X,Y,)=O(X 2 Y 2+X min (X {3/2} Y 3, X {11/2} Y {–1})+X min ({1/3} X 2 Y 3, X {14/3} Y {1/3})), with the implicit constant depending only on . There is a brief report on an application of this that leads, by way of the Bombieri-Iwaniec method for exponential sums, to some improvement of results on the mean squared modulus of a Dirichlet L-function along a short interval of its critical line.  相似文献

If denotes the curvature and the torsion of a closed, generic, and oriented polygonal space curve X in , then we show that X (2 + 2) ds = X ds + X | | ds > 4 if is positive. We also show that X (2 + 2) ds 2n if no four consecutive vertices lie in a plane and X has linking number n with a straight line. These extend theorems of Milnor and Totaro.  相似文献

Summary D. Gilat has shown that any non-negative submartingale (X, .) is equal in law to the absolute value of a martingale (M, .). This result may be strenthened so that the pairs (X,.) and (¦M¦,.) are synonomous. In this paper the question of uniqueness of M is considered. Conditions on a local martingale (M, .) are found that lead to an explicit formula for the finite-dimensional distributions of M in terms of the Doob-Meyer decomposition of the local martingale X. In many cases of interest the conditions on M are unnecessary. For example, if X is the pth power of an Itô integral it is shown that (M) is unique if p> 1 but not in general if p=1.  相似文献
