On higher order Bessel potentials

The solutions of the equation in , where are investigated, Bessel potentials of higher order are defined, and recurrence relations between these solutions and these Bessel potentials are obtained. A Helly-type theorem for countable intersections of starshaped sets

Let k and d be fixed integers, 0kd, and let be a collection of sets in If every countable subfamily of has a starshaped intersection, then is (nonempty and) starshaped as well. Moreover, if every countable subfamily of has as its intersection a starshaped set whose kernel is at least k-dimensional, then the kernel of is at least k-dimensional, too. A Product Formula Related to Quantum Zeno Dynamics

We prove a product formula which involves the unitary group generated by a semibounded self-adjoint operator and an orthogonal projection P on a separable Hilbert space with the convergence in It gives a partial answer to the question about existence of the limit which describes quantum Zeno dynamics in the subspace Ran P. The convergence in is demonstrated in the case of a finite-dimensional P. The main result is illustrated in the example where the projection corresponds to a domain in and the unitary group is the free Schrödinger evolution.submitted 21/06/04, accepted 12/10/04     

Algebraic radicals and incidence algebras

In this note we prove the uniqueness of U in a group G with a spherical split-BN-pair of rank ,i.e., if G has such a BN-pair with a nilpotent normal subgroup of B, and , then and is a normal subgroup of G. Here is the corresponding group of Lie-type and the subgroup of generated by all root-subgroups corresponding to positive roots. Received: 19 May 2003     

Type A Hecke algebras and related algebras

Let be the Hecke algebra of the symmetric group over a field K of characteristic and a primitive -th root of one in K. We show that an -module is projective if and only if its restrictions to any -parabolic subalgebra of is projective. Moreover, we give a new construction of blocks of -parabolic subalgebras, in terms of skew group algebras over local commutative algebras. Received: 30 June 2003

Some Categorical Algebraic Properties: Counter-Examples for Functor Categories

This work is a complement to the authors earlier papers, where it is shown that a functor category inherits from such properties as amalgamation, transferability and congruence extension if has either products or certain pushouts. A general scheme is given for constructing counter-examples which show that the latter condition on is essential. In particular, it is shown that the functor categories , , ( resp.) do not satisfy the amalgamation (congruence extension resp.) property in general. We study the application, , where is the supremum of positive s such that the problem admits a solution. We show that the problem doesnt admit a solution. In the end, we give a numerical approximation of , when .     

Abundance of stable ergodicity

We consider the set of volume preserving partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms on a compact manifold having 1-dimensional center bundle. We show that the volume measure is ergodic, and even Bernoulli, for any C ² diffeomorphism in an open and dense subset of This solves a conjecture of Pugh and Shub, in this setting.

Ample vector bundles with zero loci of sectional genus two

Let X be a smooth complex projective variety and let be a smooth submanifold of dimension , which is the zero locus of a section of an ample vector bundle of rank on X. Let H be an ample line bundle on X, whose restriction H_Z to Z is generated by global sections. Triplets as above are classified under the assumption that is a polarized manifold of sectional genus 2. This can be regarded as a step towards the classification of ample vector bundles of corank one and curve genus two. Received: 6 June 2003

Given any R-semimodule M equipped with a semitopology we construct an N-protosummation for M. If satisfies certain properties, then a similar construction leads to an unconditional N-summation for M, that is an N-summation for M equipped with the trivial prenorm MD over the N-summation (D^N,_D) for D. Maximal regularity for evolution equations in weighted <Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis><Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis></Subscript>-spaces

Let X be a Banach space and let A be a closed linear operator on X. It is shown that the abstract Cauchy problem enjoys maximal regularity in weighted L _p -spaces with weights , where , if and only if it has the property of maximal L _p -regularity. The Ideal Structure of Toeplitz Algebras

We investigate the ideal structure of the Toeplitz algebra of a totally ordered abelian group . We show that the primitive ideals of are parametrised by the disjoint union of the duals of the order ideals of , and identify the hull-kernel topology on when the chain of orderideals in is isomorphic to a subset of      

Join congruence relations and closure relations

In this paper we show that, given a complete lattice , the following three lattices are the same: (1) the lattice of closure relations on , (2) the lattice of meet-closed subsets of , and (3) the lattice of complete join congruence relations on .     

Non-collision periodic solutions for singular Hamiltonian systems

We study the existence of classical (non-collision) T-periodic solutions of the Hamiltonian system where and is a T-periodic function in t which has a singularity at like Under suitable conditions on H, we prove that if then (HS) possesses at least one non-collision solution and if then the generalized solution of (HS) obtained in [5] has at most one time of collision in its period.
