We have measured the far-infrared absorption of iron-doped MgO in the wavenumber region 10–200 cm?1 and in magnetic fields up to 6 T. Absorption peaks found at 107.0 and 110.5 cm?1 are assigned to magnetic dipole transitions between the spin-orbit Г5g groundstate (J = 1) and the Г3g, Г4g excited states (J = 2) of the Fe2+ -ion at a cubic site. The observed magnetic field dependence shows that Г4g is the higher excited level, so that the crystal field order of the levels is not changed by the reduction of the spin-orbit splitting attributed to a dynamic Jahn-Teller effect. An additional absorption peak at 33.4 cm?1 is found to split in magnetic field.In iron-doped KMgF3 absorption peaks at 52 and 87 cm?1 that have previously been attributed to the same transitions of Fe2+ are found to remain unshifted and unsplit in magnetic fields up to 6 T.  相似文献

We investigate the magnetic properties of Ho‐doped Bi2Te3 thin films grown by molecular beam epitaxy. Analysis of the polarized X‐ray absorption spectra at the Ho M5 absorption edge gives an effective 4f magnetic moment which is ~45% of the Hund's rule ground state value. X‐ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) shows no significant anisotropy, which suggests that the reduced spin moment is not due to the crystal field effects, but rather the presence of non‐magnetic or antiferromagnetic Ho sites. Extrapolating the temperature dependence of the XMCD measured in total electron yield and fluorescence yield mode in a field of 7 T gives a Curie–Weiss temperature of ?CW ≈ –30 K, which suggests antiferromagnetic ordering, in contrast to the paramagnetic behavior observed with SQUID magnetometry. From the anomaly of the XMCD signal at low temperatures, a Néel temperature TN between 10 K and 25 K is estimated. (© 2016 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH &Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Phosphorescence excitation spectra of the ã3B1← [Xtilde]1A1 transition of SO2 were measured in the absence and presence of a magnetic field (B = 0?44 T2, P(SO2) = 0?7 Torr). The absorption and phosphorescence excitation spectra of the ã3B1← [Xtilde]1A1 transition of SO2 measured in the absence of a magnetic field show that the relative intensity of the bands of the phosphorescence excitation spectrum is smaller than the relative intensity of the corresponding bands of the absorption spectrum beginning with the (0, 2, 0) band. In the presence of a magnetic field, the intensity of the phosphorescence excitation band falls, for νexc> 26400 cm-1. Under the direct excitation of the ã3B1← [Xtilde]1A1 transition, the dependence of the magnetic quenching of the SO2 phosphorescence on the excitation frequency (νexc) was studied at P(SO2) = 0?7 Torr and B = 0?44 T. The dependence of the magnetic field effect on νexcshows that only the vibrationally excited levels of the ã3B1 state are sensitive to an external magnetic field. The magnetic field strength and the pressure dependence of the magnetic field effects were studied under indirect excitation of the ã3B1← [Xtilde]1A1 transition at λexc = 308 nm. The magnetic field and the pressure dependence were investigated for pure SO2 and for SO2 + RH (RH n-C5H12) mixtures. It was found that the magnetic field effect was saturated at B ? 0?25 T. The saturation value (Gr = l(0?3 T)/l(0)) increases with increasing gas pressure. The magnetic field, the pressure and the excess vibrational energy (νexcess) dependence of the magnetic quenching of SO2 phosphorescence show that the data observed can be explained by an indirect mechanism within the framework of a low level density approximation.  相似文献

We have measured the absorption spectrum of BaPrO3 in the spectral range 1900–11000 cm−1. All the energy levels of the 4f electronic configuration of the Pr4+ ion in a crystal have been observed for the first time. We describe the total set of electron-nuclear states and the integral intensities of the magnetic dipole transitions of the Pr4+ in BaPrO3 in the framework of the crystal field approximation. The crystal field parameters corresponding to the real orthorhombic symmetry of BaPrO3 are obtained with the exchange charge model.  相似文献

Quantum states have been calculated analytically; the dynamics of a wave packet in a magnetic field has been investigated, and the optical absorption coefficient has been calculated for surface states in 3D topological insulators of the Bi2Te3 family. We have detected a qualitative effect of the hexagonal warping of the spectrum on the structure of wavefunctions at the Landau levels, its manifestation in the features of the wave packet dynamics in a quantizing magnetic field, as well as in the frequency dependence of the optical absorption coefficient, in which new peaks that are absent in the isotropic model of the spectrum appear depending on the polarization of the incident wave. The effects considered here can be manifested in the optical and transport experiments with topological insulators, which makes it possible to determine the parameters of their band structure.  相似文献

We have addressed the specific heat and magnetization of an anisotropic spin-1/2 triangular Heisenberg antiferromagnet Cs2CuCl4 in the presence of magnetic field at finite temperature. We have investigated the behavior of thermodynamic properties by means of excitation spectrum in terms of a hard core bosonic representation. The effect of in-plane anisotropy on thermodynamic properties has also been studied via the bosonic model by Green’s function approach. This anisotropy is considered for exchange constants that couple spin components perpendicular to magnetic field direction. We have found the temperature dependence of the specific heat and longitudinal magnetization in the gapped field induced spin-polarized phase for various magnetic fields and anisotropy parameters. Furthermore we have studied the magnetic field dependence of specific heat and magnetization for various anisotropy parameters. Our results show temperature dependence of specific heat includes a peak so that its temperature position goes to higher temperature with increase of magnetic field. We have found the magnetic field dependence of specific heat shows a monotonic decreasing behavior for various magnetic fields due to increase of energy gap in the excitation spectrum.  相似文献

A quantum theory of free carrier absorption in nondegenerate semiconductors and in strong magnetic fields which was previously developed to treat the case when acoustic phonon scattering dominates the free carrier absorption process [1] is extended to treat the case when nonpolar optical scattering is important. When the electromagnetic radiation field is polarized parallel to the direction of the applied magnetic field, results are obtained which are similar to those when acoustic phonon scattering is dominant. The free carrier absorption is an oscillatory function of the magnetic field which on the average increases in magnitude with the magnetic field. However, more structure in the free carrier absorption occurs when nonpolar optical phonon scattering dominates. This is due to the fact that there are two periods in the oscillatory magnetic field dependence associated with the emission or the absorption of optical phonons during the intraband transitions. When the cyclotron frequency exceeds the sum of the photon and optical phonon frequencies, i.e. ωc > θ + ωo, the free carrier absorption is predicted to increase linearly with magnetic field when ?ωc? kBT. The magnetic field dependence of the free carrier absorption can be explained in terms of phonon-assisted transitions between the various Landau levels in a band involving the emission and absorption of optical phonons.  相似文献

We have derived the so-called gap equation, which determines the upper critical magnetic field, perpendicular to conducting chains of a quasi-one-dimensional superconductor. By analyzing this equation at low temperatures, we have found that the calculated angular dependence of the upper critical magnetic field is qualitatively different than that in the so-called effective mass model. In particular, our theory predicts a non-analytical angular dependence of the upper critical magnetic field, H c2(0) − H c2(α) ∼ α3/2, when magnetic field is close to some special crystallographic axis and makes an angle α with it. We discuss possible experiments on the superconductor (DMET)2I3 to discover this non-analytical dependence.  相似文献

We report detailed studies of the non-equilibrium magnetic behavior of antiferromagnetic Co3O4 nanoparticles. The temperature and field dependence of magnetization, wait time dependence of magnetic relaxation (aging), memory effects, and temperature dependence of specific heat have been investigated to understand the magnetic behavior of these particles. We find that the system shows some features that are characteristic of nanoparticle magnetism such as bifurcation of field-cooled (FC) and zero-field-cooled (ZFC) susceptibilities and a slow relaxation of magnetization. However, strangely, the temperature at which the ZFC magnetization peaks coincides with the bifurcation temperature and does not shift on application of magnetic fields up to 1 kOe, unlike most other nanoparticle systems. Aging effects in these particles are negligible in both FC and ZFC protocols, and memory effects are present only in the FC protocol. We show that Co3O4 nanoparticles constitute a unique antiferromagnetic system which enters into a blocked state above the average Néel temperature.  相似文献

In an external magnetic field the coupled plasmon-LO phonon modes interact with the single-particle cyclotron modes to produce, in general, three modes which are i.r. active for all sample configurations except the Faraday configuration. In normal-incidence experiments on a thin sample of n-InSb, we have observed the shift in position of the coupled-mode resonance absorption lines as the magnetic field is tilted in steps from the Faraday to the Voigt configuration. We also observed the magnetic field dependence of the intensity and width of the absorption lines which are related to the electron and LO phonon strengths of the modes. Calculations of transmittance and reflectance are in good qualitative agreement with the experimental observations.  相似文献

We have calculated the magnetic field distribution and the resistance of a homogeneous type II superconductor cylinder at transition under the influence of axial current in zero external magnetic field. In this calculation we have expressed the magnetic field dependence on flow resistivity f by two or more potential functions and have shown that the accuracy of this approximation is sufficient. For some values of the lower critical field and various temperatures, the magnetic field distribution and the resistance of the cylinder are calculated as a function of the applied electrical field and/or the applied current. The temperature dependence of the electric field at which, the normal state appears on the surface of the cylinder is also given.  相似文献

Because of the need for tunable solid state lasers in the blue region of the spectrum, a number of recent studies have been on the optical properties of Eu2+ in various crystals lattices. The absorption and emission from Eu2+ ions in fluoride hosts arise from both 5d→4f and 4f→4f transitions. The absorption is in the ultra-violet and the emission is in the blue. The 4f-4f transitions are very sharp and are located around 360 nm. The 5d→4f emission bands at 405 nm and 525 nm are broad and host lattice dependent. We have studied the temperature dependence of the optical properties of RbMgF3:Eu2+ including absorption, emission, and excitation. In the case of the emission studies both temperature dependence and the lifetimes of the transitions have been measured. These transitions are discussed in detail.  相似文献

We calculate the Longitudinal Magnetoresistance in the Extreme Quantum Limit (?Ωc ? kBT) for a nondegenerate n-type InSb sample at low temperatures when the dominant energy and momentum loss mechanisms are the el-acoustic phonon and the el-ionized impurity interactions. The magnetic field dependence of the effective mass which is due to the nonparabolic nature of the conduction band as well as the energy and magnetic field dependence of the relaxation time are incorporated in the analysis. Analytical results are presented for both nondegenerate and degenerate samples when individual scattering mechanisms are operative. In general nonparabolicity causes an enhancement in the Longitudinal Magnetoresistance and changes the nature of its magnetic field dependence as compared to the case of a parabolic conduction band.  相似文献

A strong narrow peak in the field dependence of the radio-frequency absorption (the magnetic pseudoresonance) has been found and investigated in epitaxial thin films of La2/3Sr1/3MnO3 possessing uniaxial magnetic anisotropy in the film plane. The peak is observed when the in-plane external magnetic field H is directed perpendicular to the easy axis and equals to the anisotropy field H u. The frequency dependence of the peak magnitude measured in the frequency range of 10–300 MHz approximately follows the Debye law behavior with the characteristic relaxation time of about 2.2 ns. The physical model of the phenomenon is suggested, based on the giant increase in static transversal susceptibility due to a sharp reorientation of the equilibrium magnetization when approaching the pseudoresonance conditions.  相似文献

We have measured119Sn Mössbauer spectra of the CePtSn and (Ce0.9La0.1)NiSn compounds in the range from 1.5 to 293 K. In CePtSn, the spectra observed above 8 K are well explained by an electric quadrupole interaction. The spectral shape changes below 8 K due to the presence of a magnetic hyperfine field produced by the ordering of the Ce magnetic moments. We have analyzed these spectra assuming an incommensurate magnetic structure. The temperature dependence of the magnetic hyperfine field matches with anS=1/2 mean field curve with a step at 5 K. In (Ce0.9La0.1)NiSn, no magnetic order exists down to 1.5 K.  相似文献

The temperature dependence of the magnetic and electric hyperfine interactions at the site of 181Ta impurities in polycrystalline Dy has been measured between 4.2 and 178 K using the time differential perturbed angular correlation technique. The value of the magnetic hyperfine field at 4.2 K is: |Hhf(TaDy)| = 212(9) kG The temperature dependence of the magnetic hyperfine field follows closely the prediction of the molecular field model.  相似文献

The magnetic and electric hyperfine interaction at111Cd impurities in Samarium has been investigated by TDPAC measurements. The quadrupole frequency is Q=20.0(2) MHz at 290 K and has a linear temperature dependence with the same slope (dlnQ/dT)290K=–7.3(2) 10–4 K–1 in the rhombohedral and the hcp phase. The pressure dependence up to 7 kbar is (dln Q/dT)=+8.7(1.4) 10–3 kbar–1. The magnetic hyperfine field of111Cd in Sm is Hhf=242(6) kG at 4.2 K. Its temperature dependence confirms the existence of 2 different magnetic phases in Sm. The crystal field parameters B 2 0 and B 4 0 have been estimated from a comparison of Hhf(T) with molecular field models. The TDPAC spectra in the magnetic phases suggest that the impurities preferentially occupy the hexagonal Sm sites.  相似文献
