We develop a priori error analysis for the finite element Galerkin discretization of elliptic Dirichlet optimal control problems. The state equation is given by an elliptic partial differential equation and the finite dimensional control variable enters the Dirichlet boundary conditions. We prove the optimal order of convergence and present a numerical example confirming our results.  相似文献

This article discusses a priori and a posteriori error estimates of discontinuous Galerkin finite element method for optimal control problem governed by the transport equation. We use variational discretization concept to discretize the control variable and discontinuous piecewise linear finite elements to approximate the state and costate variable. Based on the error estimates of discontinuous Galerkin finite element method for the transport equation, we get a priori and a posteriori error estimates for the transport equation optimal control problem. Finally, two numerical experiments are carried out to confirm the theoretical analysis.© 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 33: 1493–1512, 2017  相似文献

The numerical approximation to a parabolic control problem with control and state constraints is studied in this paper. We use standard piecewise linear and continuous finite elements for the space discretization of the state, while the dG(0) method is used for time discretization. A priori error estimates for control and state are obtained by an improved maximum error estimate for the corresponding discretized state equation. Numerical experiments are provided which support our theoretical results.  相似文献

We consider a priori error analysis for a discretization of a linear quadratic parabolic optimal control problem with box constraints on the time-dependent control variable. For such problems one can show that a time-discrete solution with second order convergence can be obtained by a first order discontinuous Galerkin time discretization for the state variable and either the variational discretization approach or a post-processing strategy for the control variable. Here, by combining the two approaches for the control variable, we demonstrate that almost third order convergence with respect to the size of the time steps can be achieved.  相似文献

In this paper, a priori error estimates are derived for the mixed finite element discretization of optimal control problems governed by fourth order elliptic partial differential equations. The state and co-state are discretized by Raviart-Thomas mixed finite element spaces and the control variable is approximated by piecewise constant functions. The error estimates derived for the state variable as well as those for the control variable seem to be new. We illustrate with a numerical example to confirm our theoretical results.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate a space-time finite element approximation of parabolic optimal control problems. The first order optimality conditions are transformed into an elliptic equation of fourth order in space and second order in time involving only the state or the adjoint state in the space-time domain. We derive a priori and a posteriori error estimates for the time discretization of the state and the adjoint state. (© 2014 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

We propose and analyze an a posteriori error estimator for a partial differential equation (PDE)-constrained optimization problem involving a nondifferentiable cost functional, fractional diffusion, and control-constraints. We realize fractional diffusion as the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map for a nonuniformly PDE and propose an equivalent optimal control problem with a local state equation. For such an equivalent problem, we design an a posteriori error estimator which can be defined as the sum of four contributions: two contributions related to the approximation of the state and adjoint equations and two contributions that account for the discretization of the control variable and its associated subgradient. The contributions related to the discretization of the state and adjoint equations rely on anisotropic error estimators in weighted Sobolev spaces. We prove that the proposed a posteriori error estimator is locally efficient and, under suitable assumptions, reliable. We design an adaptive scheme that yields, for the examples that we perform, optimal experimental rates of convergence.  相似文献

In this paper, we examine the method of characteristic-mixed finite element for the approximation of convex optimal control problem governed by time-dependent convection-diffusion equations with control constraints. For the discretization of the state equation, the characteristic finite element is used for the approximation of the material derivative term (i.e., the time derivative term plus the convection term), and the lowest-order Raviart-Thomas mixed element is applied for the approximation of the diffusion term. We derive some a priori error estimates for both the state and control approximations.  相似文献

In this paper, we discuss the mixed discontinuous Galerkin (DG) finite element approximation to linear parabolic optimal control problems. For the state variables and the co-state variables, the discontinuous finite element method is used for the time discretization and the Raviart-Thomas mixed finite element method is used for the space discretization. We do not discretize the space of admissible control but implicitly utilize the relation between co-state and control for the discretization of the control. We derive a priori error estimates for the lowest order mixed DG finite element approximation. Moveover, for the element of arbitrary order in space and time, we derive a posteriori $L^2(0, T ;L^2(Ω))$ error estimates for the scalar functions, assuming that only the underlying mesh is static. Finally, we present an example to confirm the theoretical result on a priori error estimates.  相似文献

We consider the Cauchy problem for an abstract quasilinear hyperbolic equation with variable operator coefficients and a nonsmooth but Bochner integrable free term in a Hilbert space. Under study is the scheme for approximate solution of this problem which is a combination of the Galerkin scheme in space variables and the three-layer difference scheme with time weights. We establish an a priori energy error estimate without any special conditions on the projection subspaces. We give a concrete form of this estimate in the case when discretization in the space variables is carried out by the finite element method (for a partial differential equation) and by the Galerkin method in Mikhlin form.  相似文献

Mixed and hybrid finite element discretizations for distributed optimal control problems governed by an elliptic equation are analyzed. A cost functional keeping track of both the state and its gradient is studied. A priori error estimates and super-convergence properties for the continuous and discrete optimal states, adjoint states, and controls will be given. The approximating finite-dimensional systems will be solved by adding penalization terms for the state and the associated Lagrange multipliers. In general, performing optimization, discretization, hybridization, and penalization in any order lead to the same optimality system. Numerical examples based on the Raviart–Thomas finite elements will be presented.

We consider linear-quadratic problems of optimal control with an elliptic state equation and control constraints. For a discretization of the state equation by the method of Finite Differences and a piecewise approximation of the control we develop error estimates for the solution of the discrete problem and, based on the optimality conditions, we construct a new feasible control for which we derive error estimates of quadratic order.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a splitting positive definite mixed finite element method for the approximation of convex optimal control problems governed by linear parabolic equations, where the primal state variable $y$ and its flux $σ$ are approximated simultaneously. By using the first order necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for the optimization problem, we derive another pair of adjoint state variables $z$ and $ω$, and also a variational inequality for the control variable $u$ is derived. As we can see the two resulting systems for the unknown state variable $y$ and its flux $σ$ are splitting, and both symmetric and positive definite. Besides, the corresponding adjoint states $z$ and $ω$ are also decoupled, and they both lead to symmetric and positive definite linear systems. We give some a priori error estimates for the discretization of the states, adjoint states and control, where Ladyzhenkaya-Babuska-Brezzi consistency condition is not necessary for the approximation of the state variable $y$ and its flux $σ$. Finally, numerical experiments are given to show the efficiency and reliability of the splitting positive definite mixed finite element method.  相似文献

In this paper we consider a model elliptic optimal control problem with finitely many state constraints in two and three dimensions. Such problems are challenging due to low regularity of the adjoint variable. For the discretization of the problem we consider continuous linear elements on quasi-uniform and graded meshes separately. Our main result establishes optimal a priori error estimates for the state, adjoint, and the Lagrange multiplier on the two types of meshes. In particular, in three dimensions the optimal second order convergence rate for all three variables is possible only on properly refined meshes. Numerical examples at the end of the paper support our theoretical results.  相似文献

A priori error estimates for the Rosenau equation, which is a K-dV like Rosenau equation modelled to describe the dynamics of dense discrete systems, have been studied by one of the authors. But since a priori error bounds contain the unknown solution and its derivatives, it is not effective to control error bounds with only a given step size. Thus we need to estimate a posteriori errors in order to control accuracy of approximate solutions using variable step sizes. A posteriori error estimates of the Rosenau equation are obtained by a discontinuous Galerkin method and the stability analysis is discussed for the dual problem. Numerical results on a posteriori error and wave propagation are given, which are obtained by using various spatial and temporal meshes controlled automatically by a posteriori error.  相似文献

Summary. Generalizing an idea from deterministic optimal control, we construct a posteriori error estimates for the spatial discretization error of the stochastic dynamic programming method based on a discrete Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman equation. These error estimates are shown to be efficient and reliable, furthermore, a priori bounds on the estimates depending on the regularity of the approximate solution are derived. Based on these error estimates we propose an adaptive space discretization scheme whose performance is illustrated by two numerical examples.Mathematics Subject Classification (2000): 93E20, 65N50, 49L20, 49M25, 65N15Acknowledgments. A new discretization concept for optimal control problems with control constraints is introduced which utilizes for the discretization of the control variable the relation between adjoint state and control. Its key feature is not to discretize the space of admissible controls but to implicitly utilize the first order optimality conditions and the discretization of the state and adjoint equations for the discretization of the control. For discrete controls obtained in this way an optimal error estimate is proved. The application to control of elliptic equations is discussed. Finally it is shown that the new concept is numerically implementable with only slight increase in program management. A numerical test confirms the theoretical investigations.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the finite element methods for distributed optimal control problems governed by the biharmonic operator. Motivated from reducing the regularity of solution space, we use the decoupled mixed element method which was used to approximate the solution of biharmonic equation to solve the fourth order optimal control problems. Two finite element schemes, i.e., Lagrange conforming element combined with full control discretization and the nonconforming Crouzeix-Raviart element combined with variational control discretization, are used to discretize the decoupled optimal control system. The corresponding a priori error estimates are derived under appropriate norms which are then verified by extensive numerical experiments.  相似文献

In this paper, we study variational discretization for the constrained optimal control problem governed by convection dominated diffusion equations, where the state equation is approximated by the edge stabilization Galerkin method. A priori error estimates are derived for the state, the adjoint state and the control. Moreover, residual type a posteriori error estimates in the L^2-norm are obtained. Finally, two numerical experiments are presented to illustrate the theoretical results.  相似文献

We are concerned with the Hamilton-Jacobi equation related to the infinite horizon problem of deterministic control theory. Approximate solutions are constructed by means of a discretization in time as well as in the state variable and we prove that their rate of convergence to the viscosity solution is of order 1, provided a semiconcavity assumption is satisfied. A computational algorithm, originally due to R. Gonzales and E. Rofman, is adapted and reformulated for the problem at hand in order to obtain an error estimate for the numerical approximate solutions. This work has been partially supported by CNR-GNAFA.  相似文献
