A new depsidone from Usnea diffracta

A new depsidone,diffractione A(1),as well as six known phenolic compounds(2-7)were isolated from Usnea diffracta.Their structures were ducidated by ID and 2D NMR spectroscopy together with HRESIMS analysis.All components were obtained for the first time from U.diffracta.

Isolation and Identification of Furfuric Acid a New Depsidone from the Lichen Pseudevernia furfuracea (L.) Ach. The structure of furfuric acid, ( 1 ), a new depsidone, isolated from the lichen Pseudevernia furfuracea (L.) Ach. has been established as 4-formyl-3,8-dihydroxy-9-(2,4-dihydroxy-5-methoxycarbonyl-3,6-dimethylbenzyl)-1,6-dimethyl-11-oxo-11H-dibenzo[b,e][1,4]dioxepin-7-carboxylic acid by spectral and chemical methods.     

A new depsidone derivative from mangrove sediment derived fungus Lasiodiplodia theobromae

A new depsidone derivative botryorhodine I (1), along with eight known compounds (2-9) were obtained from solid rice cultures of the fungal strain, Lasiodiplodia theobromae M4.2-2 isolated from a mangrove sediment sample. The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated on the basis of 1?D and 2?D NMR analysis as well as by HRESIMS. All compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic potential against the mouse lymphoma cell line L5178Y as well as for their antibacterial activities against a panel of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains. Compound 3 revealed potent cytotoxic activity with an IC₅₀ of 7.3?µM whereas compound 7 showed selective anti-bacterial activity against different S. aureus and E. faecium bacterial strains with MIC value of 25?µg/ml.     

A new depsidone derivative from the leaves of Garcinia polyantha

One new depsidone, polyanthadepsidone A (1), together with four known compounds were isolated from the dichloromethane extract of the leaves of Garcinia polyantha. The structures of all compounds were determined by comprehensive analyses of their 1D and 2D NMR and EI mass spectral data. All the isolates exhibited suppressive effect on phagocytosis response upon activation with serum opsonised zymosan in the IC₅₀ range of 4.5–23.80 μM, tested in vitro for oxidative burst studies of whole blood.     

Bioaccumulation of vanadium in the epiphytic lichen Parmelia caperata from Liguria (north-west Italy)

The concentration of vanadium was measured in 35 samples of the epiphytic lichen Parmelia caperata collected along the coast of the Ligurian Sea (Italy), in order to detect the possible bioaccumulation of vanadium due to a huge crude oil burning occurred in that area in 1991. The cartographic elaboration of data shows a pattern of distribution of vanadium concentrations according to different degrees of deviation from background condition, showing that 8 years later memory of the accident is still detectable in foliose lichen thalli.     

Lobarioid A,unusual antibacterial depsidone possessing an eight-membered diether ring from the edible lichen Lobaria sp.

Lobarioid A (1), an unusual depsidone possessing an eight-membered diether ring, was isolated from the edible lichen Lobaria sp. Its structure was elucidated by extensive NMR, MS, IR and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. Compound 1 exhibited antibacterial activity against three strains of gram-positive bacteria.     

Tubiferic acid, a new 9,10-secocycloartane triterpenoid acid isolated from the myxomycete Tubulifera arachnoidea

Tubiferic acid (1), a new triterpenoid acid having a 2,6-dimethyl-4,5-dihydroxy-2-hexenoic acid moiety as a side chain, was isolated from field-collected fruit bodies of the myxomycete Tubulifera arachnoidea, and its structure was elucidated by spectral data. Tubiferic acid (1) had the same unique 9,10-secocycloartane carbon skeleton as tubiferal A (2).     

A new peptide isolated from a marine derived Streptomyces bacillaris

A new peptide, L-O-Lac-L-Val-D-O-Hiv-D-Val (1), consisting of D-valine, L-valine, L-lactic acid, and 3-D-hydroxyisovaleric acid, was isolated from the culture of the marine sediment derived Streptomyces bacillaris. The planar structure of compound 1 was assigned by 1D, 2D NMR and mass spectroscopic analyses. Following acid and base hydrolysis, the absolute configuration of the valine residues in 1 were determined by application of the advanced Marfey's method and the absolute configurations of hydroxy acids units were determined by a HPLC method based on Mosher's reagents.     

A new ginsengenin containing an oxacyclopentane-ring isolated from the acid hydrolysate of total ginsenosides

Bioassay-guided fractionation of the acid hydrolysate of total ginsenosides of Panax ginseng C.A.Meyer （Araliaceae） led to the isolation of a novel ginsengenin（1）.The structure of 1 was determined as （20S,22S）-dammar-22,25-epoxy-3β,12β,20-triol by extensive spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses.The cytotoxicity of 1 was further tested against SWl 116,HCTl 16,and A549 cells by the MTT method,with IC₅₀ values in the range of 2.96-30.9μmol/L.     

A new chromene isolated from Ageratum conyzoides

From the ethanol extract of the whole plant of Ageratum conyzoides L. (Compositae), one new chromene, 2,2-dimethylchromene 7-methoxy-6-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside, was isolated, together with thirteen known compounds, seven of which were being reported for the first time. The compounds were all characterized by MS, IR, 1D- and 2D-NMR spectroscopy. 7,3',5'-Tri-O-methyltricetin (7), precocene II (9), 3,5,7,4'-tetrahydroxyflavone (13) and 5,6,7,3',4',5'-hexamethoxyflavone (14) exhibited inhibitory activity on the P-388 cancer cell line with IC50 values of 12.8, 24.8, 3.5 and 7.8 microM respectively, while compound 9 exhibited inhibitory activity on the HT-29 cancer cell line with an IC50 value of 61 microM; the others showed no significant cytotoxic activity on the cell lines tested.     

713A, a new metabolite isolated from a fungal strain 713

A new compound named 713A was isolated from the fermentation broth of a fungal strain 713. The structure of 713A was elucidated by spectroscopic methods. In the screening for interleukin-6 (IL-6) receptor antagonist, 713A exhibited inhibitory activity to the binding of IL-6 and IL-6 receptor with an IC50 value of 8.6 microM.     

A new flavanone glycoside isolated from Tournefortia sibirica

A new flavanone glycoside, (2S)-dihydrooroxylin A 7-O-[β-D-apiosyl(1→2)]-β-D-glucoside (1), and four known compounds (2–5) were isolated from Tournefortia sibirica L. The chemical structures of these compounds were determined by 1?D and 2?D NMR and HR-ESI-MS spectra, and results were compared with data from the literature. These five compounds (1–5) were isolated from the family Boraginaceae for the first time. Anti-inflammatory effects of compounds (1–5) were evaluated in terms of inhibition of production of NO, TNF-α, and IL-6 in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells.
