Quantum-chemical studies of olefin activation on gallium oxide

The interaction of propylene with gallium oxide has been studied by the MINDO-3 method using a cluster model. It is shown that the energy barrier against allyl C–H bond dissociation is mainly determined by the Coulomb repulsion between the molecule and the central metal ion. Interaction of the dissociating hydrogen with the oxygen of the fragment ensures the stabilization of the system.

Chemical oscillations in the uncatalyzed bromate oxidation of hydroquinone and nitrophenols

Chemical oscillatory behavior in the uncatalyzed bromate oxidation of hydroquinone and nitrophenols is reported. The reaction is strongly inhibited by stirring. Effect of one-electron redox couples (EZ catalysts) on the system is described.

Decomposition of ammonia on rhenium II. Nitrogen adsorption on rhenium

Field emission microscopy and thermal desorption studies of nitrogen adsorption on a monocrystal tip and a polycrystalline rhenium wire indicate the formation of molecular () and dissociative () forms of adsorption. Adsorption-desorption characteristics have been measured.

Kinetics and mecahnism of oxidation of benzoins by peroxydisulfate catalyzed by Ag(I)

The kinetics of Ag(I) catalyzed oxidation of benzoin and four substituted benzoins by peroxydisulfate have been investigated in 30 vol. % acetic acid-water mixture at constant ionic strength. The parameters of Arrhenius and transition state theories have been computed. The rate laws are explained on the basis of a free radical mechanism.

Use of Pd/Sepiolite systems as hydrogenation catalysts I. Hydrogenolysis of N-blocked amino acids and dipeptides with molecular hydrogen

In this work we have assessed the use of sepiolites from Vallecas (Madrid, Spain) as supports of Pd catalysts applicable to the liquid-phase unblocking of amino acids and dipeptides protected by a benzyloxycarbonyl group (Z) with gaseous hydrogen. The sepiolites used have been compared with other supports employed by our team. We have also discussed the influence of the type of amino acid or dipeptide, the catalytic support and the precursor Pd salt on the unblocking rate.

TPD studies of hydrogen sorption on platinum powder catalysts modified with adsorbed gold

It has been shown that hydrogen determined from the TPD curves of platinum saturated with hydrogen sorbed above room temperature is chiefly absorbed and not adsorbed hydrogen; this absorbed hydrogen has no effect on the charging curve.

Effect of vibrational excitation on the reactivity of methyl fluoride with bromine atoms

The influence of non-equilibrium vibrational excitation of CH₃F molecules on the rate of their reaction with bromine atoms has been investigated. A three-fold increace in the reaction rate has been registered at CH₃F and Br₂ pressures of 0.07 Torr and at 100°C. The increase is shown not to be associated with equilibrium thermal heating.

Effect of surface defects on the adsorption rate of O2 on polycrystalline rhodium

By using a method of secondary ion mass-spectrometry, the initial sticking coefficient of oxygen (S_o) has been measured when O₂ is adsorbed on two types of the polycrystalline rhodium surface. These surfaces are: 1. defective, i. e. subjected to ion bombardment and 2. smooth, i.e. annealed after bombardment. Values obtained for the defective and smooth surfaces are S_o 0.35 at sample temperatures T=295–1000 K and S_o 4×10^–3 at T=680–870 K, respectively.
