In the Toda shock problem (see [7], [11], [8], and also [3]) one considers a driving particle moving with a fixed velocity 2a and impinging on a one-dimensional semi-infinite lattice of particles, initially equally spaced and at rest, and interacting with exponential forces. In this paper we consider the related Toda rarefaction problem in which the driving particle now moves away from the lattice at fixed speed, in analogy with a piston being withdrawn, as it were, from a container filled with gas. We make use of the Riemann-Hilbert factorization formulation of the related inverse scattering problem. In the case where the speed 2 |a| of the driving particle is sufficiently large (|a| > 1), we show that the particle escapes from the lattice, which then executes a free motion of the type studied, for example, in [5]. In other words, in analogy with a piston being withdrawn too rapidly from a container filled with gas, cavitation develops. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

We introduce a criterion that a given bi-Hamiltonian structure admits a local coordinate system where both brackets have constant coefficients. This criterion is applied to the bi-Hamiltonian open Toda lattice in a generic point, which is shown to be locally isomorphic to a Kronecker odd-dimensional pair of brackets with constant coefficients. This shows that the open Toda lattice cannot be locally represented as a product of two bi-Hamiltonian structures. Near, a generic point, the bi-Hamiltonian periodic Toda lattice is shown to be isomorphic to a product of two open Toda lattices (one of which is a (trivial) structure of dimension 1). While the above results might be obtained by more traditional methods, we use an approach based on general results on geometry of webs. This demonstrates the possibility of applying a geometric language to problems on bi-Hamiltonian integrable systems; such a possibility may be no less important than the particular results proved in this paper. Based on these geometric approaches, we conjecture that decompositions similar to the decomposition of the periodic Toda lattice exist in local geometry of the Volterra system, the complete Toda lattice, the multidimensional Euler top, and a regular bi-Hamiltonian Lie coalgebra. We also state general conjectures about the geometry of more general "homogeneous" finite-dimensional bi-Hamiltonian structures. The class of homogeneous structures is shown to coincide with the class of systems integrable by Lenard scheme. The bi-Hamiltonian structures which admit a non-degenerate Lax structure are shown to be locally isomorphic to the open Toda lattice.  相似文献

The paper investigates the asymptotic behavior of solutions to the 2 × 2 matrix factorization (Riemann-Hilbert) problem with rapidly oscillating off-diagonal elements and quadratic phase function. A new approach to study such problems based on the ideas of the stationary phase method and M. G. Krein’s theory is proposed. The problem is model for investigating the asymptotic behavior of solutions to factorization problems with several turning points. Power-order complete asymptotic expansions for solutions to the problem under consideration are found. These asymptotics are used to construct asymptotics for solutions to the Cauchy problem for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation at large times.  相似文献

We present a new discrete integrable coupling system by using the matrix Lax pair U, V ∈ sl(4). A novel spectral problem of modified Toda lattice soliton hierarchy is considered. Then, a new discrete integrable coupling equation hierarchy is obtained through the method of the enlarged Lax pair. Finally, we obtain the Hamiltonian structure of the integrable coupling system of the soliton equation hierarchy using the matrix-form trace identity. This discrete integrable coupling system includes a kind of a modified Toda lattice hierarchy.  相似文献

Matrix orthogonal Laurent polynomials in the unit circle and the theory of Toda-like integrable systems are connected using the Gauss–Borel factorization of two, left and a right, Cantero–Morales–Velázquez block moment matrices, which are constructed using a quasi-definite matrix measure. A block Gauss–Borel factorization problem of these moment matrices leads to two sets of biorthogonal matrix orthogonal Laurent polynomials and matrix Szeg? polynomials, which can be expressed in terms of Schur complements of bordered truncations of the block moment matrix. The corresponding block extension of the Christoffel–Darboux theory is derived. Deformations of the quasi-definite matrix measure leading to integrable systems of Toda type are studied. The integrable theory is given in this matrix scenario; wave and adjoint wave functions, Lax and Zakharov–Shabat equations, bilinear equations and discrete flows — connected with Darboux transformations. We generalize the integrable flows of the Cafasso's matrix extension of the Toeplitz lattice for the Verblunsky coefficients of Szeg? polynomials. An analysis of the Miwa shifts allows for the finding of interesting connections between Christoffel–Darboux kernels and Miwa shifts of the matrix orthogonal Laurent polynomials.  相似文献

Based on the characteristic polynomial of Lax matrix for the hierarchy of coupled Toda lattices associated with a \(3\times3\) discrete matrix spectral problem, we introduce a trigonal curve with two infinite points, from which we establish the associated Dubrovin-type equations. The asymptotic properties of the meromorphic function and the Baker-Akhiezer function are studied near two infinite points on the trigonal curve. Finite-band solutions of the entire hierarchy of coupled Toda lattices are obtained in terms of the Riemann theta function.  相似文献

Under the constraint determined by a relation (a n ,b n )T={f(?)} n between the reflectionless potentials and the eigenfunctions of the general discrete Schrödinger eigenvalue problem, the Lax pair of the Toda lattice is nonlinearized to be a finite-dimensional difference system and a nonlinear evolution equation, while the solution varietyN of the former is an invariant set of S-flows determined by the latter, and the constants of the motion for the algebraic system are presented.f maps the solution of the algebraic system into the solution of a certain stationary Toda equation. Similar results concerning the Langmuir lattice are given, and a relation between the two difference systems, which are the spatial parts of the nonlinearized Lax pairs of the Toda lattice and Langmuir lattice, is discussed.  相似文献

A new transform method for solving initial-boundary value problems for linear and integrable nonlinear PDEs in two independent variables has been recently introduced in [1]. For linear PDEs this method involves: (a) formulating the given PDE as the compatibility condition of two linear equations which, by analogy with the nonlinear theory, we call a Lax pair; (b) formulating a classical mathematical problem, the so-called Riemann-Hilbert problem, by performing a simultaneous spectral analysis of both equations defining the Lax pair; (c) deriving certain global relations satisfied by the boundary values of the solution of the given PDE. Here this method is used to solve certain problems for the heat equation, the linearized Korteweg-deVries equation and the Laplace equation. Some of these problems illustrate that the new method can be effectively used for problems with complicated boundary conditions such as changing type as well as nonseparable boundary conditions. It is shown that for simple boundary conditions the global relations (c) can be analyzed using only algebraic manipulations, while for complicated boundary conditions, one needs to solve an additional Riemann-Hilbert problem. The relationship of this problem with the classical Wiener-Hopf technique is pointed out. The extension of the above results to integrable nonlinear equations is also discussed. In particular, the Korteweg-deVries equation in the quarter plane is linearized.  相似文献

Numerical solutions to three systems of integrable evolutionary equations from the Toda lattice hierarchy are analyzed. These are the classical Toda lattice, the second local dispersive flow, and the second extended dispersive flow. Special attention is given to the properties of soliton solutions. For the equations of the second local flow, two types of solitons interacting in a special manner are found. Solutions corresponding to various initial data are qualitatively outlined.  相似文献

We establish, using a new approach, the integrability of a particular case in the Kozlov-Treshchev classification of Birkhoff integrable Hamiltonian systems. The technique used is a modification of the so called quadratic Lax pair for D n Toda lattice combined with a method used by M. Ranada in proving the integrability of the Sklyanin case.   相似文献

In this paper, a variant of Steffensen’s method of fourth-order convergence for solving nonlinear equations is suggested. Its error equation and asymptotic convergence constant are proven theoretically and demonstrated numerically. The derivative-free method only uses three evaluations of the function per iteration to achieve fourth-order convergence. Its applications on systems of nonlinear equations and boundary-value problems of nonlinear ODEs are showed as well in the numerical examples.  相似文献

We consider some Lax equations on a periodic lattice with sites under which the monodromy matrix evolves according to the Toda flows. To establish their integrability (in the sense of Liouville) on generic symplectic leaves of the underlying Poisson structure, we construct the action-angle variables explicitly. The action variables are invariants of certain group actions. In particular, one collection of these invariants is associated with a spectral curve and the linearization of the associated Hamilton equations involves interesting new feature. We also prove the injectivity of the linearization map into real variables and solve the Hamilton equations generated by the invariants via factorization problems.

In this paper, we apply $\bar{\partial}$-steepest descent method to analyze the long-time asymptotics of complex mKdV equation with the initial value belonging to weighted Sobolev spaces. Firstly, the Cauchy problem of the complex mKdV equation is transformed into the corresponding Riemann-Hilbert problem on the basis of the Lax pair and the scattering data. Then the long-time asymptotics of complex mKdV equation is obtained by studying the solution of the Riemann-Hilbert problem.  相似文献

When a measure \(\varPsi(x)\) on the real line is subjected to the modification \(d\varPsi^{(t)}(x) = e^{-tx} d \varPsi(x)\), then the coefficients of the recurrence relation of the orthogonal polynomials in \(x\) with respect to the measure \(\varPsi^{(t)}(x)\) are known to satisfy the so-called Toda lattice formulas as functions of \(t\). In this paper we consider a modification of the form \(e^{-t(\mathfrak{p}x+ \mathfrak{q}/x)}\) of measures or, more generally, of moment functionals, associated with orthogonal L-polynomials and show that the coefficients of the recurrence relation of these L-orthogonal polynomials satisfy what we call an extended relativistic Toda lattice. Most importantly, we also establish the so called Lax pair representation associated with this extended relativistic Toda lattice. These results also cover the (ordinary) relativistic Toda lattice formulations considered in the literature by assuming either \(\mathfrak{p}=0\) or \(\mathfrak{q}=0\). However, as far as Lax pair representation is concern, no complete Lax pair representations were established before for the respective relativistic Toda lattice formulations. Some explicit examples of extended relativistic Toda lattice and Langmuir lattice are also presented. As further results, the lattice formulas that follow from the three term recurrence relations associated with kernel polynomials on the unit circle are also established.

Generalizing the graded commutator in superalgebras, we propose a new bracket operation on the space of graded operators with an involution. We study properties of this operation and show that the Lax representation of the two-dimensional N=(1|1) supersymmetric Toda lattice hierarchy can be realized via the generalized bracket operation; this is important in constructing the semiclassical (continuum) limit of this hierarchy. We construct the continuum limit of the N=(1|1) Toda lattice hierarchy, the dispersionless N=(1|1) Toda hierarchy. In this limit, we obtain the Lax representation, with the generalized graded bracket becoming the corresponding Poisson bracket on the graded phase superspace. We find bosonic symmetries of the dispersionless N=(1|1) supersymmetric Toda equation.  相似文献

A completely integrable system on a symplectic manifold is called super-integrable when the number of independent integrals of motion is more than half the dimension of the manifold. Several important completely integrable systems are super-integrable: the harmonic oscillators, the Kepler system, the non-periodic Toda lattice, etc. Motivated by an additional property of the super-integrable system of the Toda lattice (Agrotis et al., 2006) [2], we will give a generalization of the Atiyah and Guillemin–Sternberg?s convexity theorem.  相似文献

The authors give finite dimensional exponential solutions of the bigraded Toda hierarchy (BTH). As a specific example of exponential solutions of the BTH, the authors consider a regular solution for the (1, 2)-BTH with a 3 × 3-sized Lax matrix, and discuss some geometric structures of the solution from which the difference between the (1, 2)- BTH and the original Toda hierarchy is shown. After this, the authors construct another kind of Lax representation of (N, 1)-BTH which does not use the fractional operator of Lax operator. Then the authors introduce the lattice Miura transformation of (N, 1)-BTH which leads to equations depending on one field, and meanwhile some specific examples which contain the Volterra lattice equation (a useful ecological competition model) are given.  相似文献

Normalized factorization procedures for the solution of large sparse linear finite element systems have been recently introduced in [3]. In these procedures the large sparse symmetric coefficient matrix of irregular structure is factorized exactly to yield a normalized direct solution method. Additionally, approximate factorization procedures yield implicit iterative methods for the finite difference or finite element solution. The numerical implementation of these algorithms is presented here and FORTRAN subroutines for the efficient solution of the resulting large sparse symmetric linear systems of algebraic equations are given.  相似文献
