This paper considers a stationary single-server queue with multiple arrival streams governed by a Markov chain, where customers are served on an LCFS preemptive-resume basis. Service times of customers from each arrival stream are generally distributed and service time distributions for different arrival streams may be different. Under these assumptions, it is shown that the stationary joint distribution of queue strings representing from which arrival stream each customer in the system arrived and remaining service times of respective customers in the system has a matrix product-form solution, where matrices constituting the solution are given in terms of the infinitesimal generator of a certain Markov chain. Compared with the previous works, the result in this paper is more general in the sense that general service time distributions are allowed, and it has the advantage of computational efficiency. Note also that the result is a natural extension of the classical result for the LCFS-PR M/G/1 queue. Further, utilizing the matrix product-form solution, we derive a new expression of the vector Laplace–Stieltjes transform of the stationary distribution of unfinished work in the work-conserving single-server queue with multiple arrival streams governed by a Markov chain, which is given by the sum of matrix-geometric series.  相似文献

In this article, we consider a single-server, finite-capacity queue with random bulk service rule where customers arrive according to a discrete-time Markovian arrival process (D-MAP). The model is denoted by D-MAP/G Y /1/M where server capacity (bulk size for service) is determined by a random variable Y at the starting point of services. A simple analysis of this model is given using the embedded Markov chain technique and the concept of the mean sojourn time of the phase of underlying Markov chain of D-MAP. A complete solution to the distribution of the number of customers in the D-MAP/G Y /1/M queue, some computational results, and performance measures such as the average number of customers in the queue and the loss probability are presented.  相似文献

We study a BMAP/>SM/1 queue with batch Markov arrival process input and semi‐Markov service. Service times may depend on arrival phase states, that is, there are many types of arrivals which have different service time distributions. The service process is a heterogeneous Markov renewal process, and so our model necessarily includes known models. At first, we consider the first passage time from level {κ+1} (the set of the states that the number of customers in the system is κ+1) to level {κ} when a batch arrival occurs at time 0 and then a customer service included in that batch simultaneously starts. The service descipline is considered as a LIFO (Last‐In First‐Out) with preemption. This discipline has the fundamental role for the analysis of the first passage time. Using this first passage time distribution, the busy period length distribution can be obtained. The busy period remains unaltered in any service disciplines if they are work‐conserving. Next, we analyze the stationary workload distribution (the stationary virtual waiting time distribution). The workload as well as the busy period remain unaltered in any service disciplines if they are work‐conserving. Based on this fact, we derive the Laplace–Stieltjes transform for the stationary distribution of the actual waiting time under a FIFO discipline. In addition, we refer to the Laplace–Stieltjes transforms for the distributions of the actual waiting times of the individual types of customers. Using the relationship between the stationary waiting time distribution and the stationary distribution of the number of customers in the system at departure epochs, we derive the generating function for the stationary joint distribution of the numbers of different types of customers at departures. We study a PH/G/1 queue in which the arrival process and the service times depend on the state of an underlying Markov chain J(t) on a countable state spaceE. We derive the busy period process, waiting time and idle time of this queueing system. We also study the Markov modulated EK/G/1 queueing system as a special case.  相似文献

We consider an M [X]/G/1 retrial queue subject to breakdowns where the retrial time is exponential and independent of the number of customers applying for service. If a coming batch of customers finds the server idle, one of the arriving customers begins his service immediately and the rest joins a retrial group (called orbit) to repeat his request later; otherwise, if the server is busy or down, all customers of the coming batch enter the orbit. It is assumed that the server has a constant failure rate and arbitrary repair time distribution. We study the ergodicity of the embedded Markov chain, its stationary distribution and the joint distribution of the server state and the orbit size in steady-state. The orbit and system size distributions are obtained as well as some performance measures of the system. The stochastic decomposition property and the asymptotic behavior under high rate of retrials are discussed. We also analyse some reliability problems, the k-busy period and the ordinary busy period of our retrial queue. Besides, we give a recursive scheme to compute the distribution of the number of served customers during the k-busy period and the ordinary busy period. The effects of several parameters on the system are analysed numerically. I. Atencia’s and Moreno’s research is supported by the MEC through the project MTM2005-01248.  相似文献

We analyze the transient behavior of the M/M/1+D queue. Considering an Erlang distribution for customers’ waiting time, we approximate the real system by a Markov chain. We obtain the Laplace Transform of the transient probabilities in the approximated model and the Laplace transform of the main performance measures for the real system. We next analyze the busy period of this queue. One interesting insight is that the busy period of the unstable M/M/s queue has a finite coefficient of variation.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a MAP/G/1 queue with MAP arrivals of negative customers, where there are two types of service times and two classes of removal rules: the RCA and RCH, as introduced in section 2. We provide an approach for analyzing the system. This approach is based on the classical supplementary variable method, combined with the matrix-analytic method and the censoring technique. By using this approach, we are able to relate the boundary conditions of the system of differential equations to a Markov chain of GI/G/1 type or a Markov renewal process of GI/G/1 type. This leads to a solution of the boundary equations, which is crucial for solving the system of differential equations. We also provide expressions for the distributions of stationary queue length and virtual sojourn time, and the Laplace transform of the busy period. Moreover, we provide an analysis for the asymptotics of the stationary queue length of the MAP/G/1 queues with and without negative customers.  相似文献

This paper studies two queueing systems with a Markov arrival process with marked arrivals and PH-distribution service times for each type of customer. Customers (regardless of their types) are served on a last-come-first-served preemptive resume and repeat basis, respectively. The focus is on the stationary distribution of queue strings in the system and busy periods. Efficient algorithms are developed for computing the stationary distribution of queue strings, the mean numbers of customers served in a busy period, and the mean length of a busy period. Comparison is conducted numerically between performance measures of queueing systems with preemptive resume and preemptive repeat service disciplines. A counter-intuitive observation is that for a class of service time distributions, the repeat discipline performs better than the resume one. We consider a priority queue in steady state with N servers, two classes of customers, and a cutoff service discipline. Low priority arrivals are "cut off" (refused immediate service) and placed in a queue whenever N1 or more servers are busy, in order to keep N-N1 servers free for high priority arrivals. A Poisson arrival process for each class, and a common exponential service rate, are assumed. Two models are considered: one where high priority customers queue for service and one where they are lost if all servers are busy at an arrival epoch. Results are obtained for the probability of n servers busy, the expected low priority waiting time, and (in the case where high priority customers do not queue) the complete low priority waiting time distribution. The results are applied to determine the number of ambulances required in an urban fleet which serves both emergency calls and low priority patients transfers.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a discrete-time finite-capacity queue with Bernoulli arrivals and batch services. In this queue, the single server has a variable service capacity and serves the customers only when the number of customers in system is at least a certain threshold value. For this queue, we first obtain the queue-length distribution just after a service completion, using the embedded Markov chain technique. Then we establish a relationship between the queue-length distribution just after a service completion and that at a random epoch, using elementary ‘rate-in = rate-out’ arguments. Based on this relationship, we obtain the queue-length distribution at a random (as well as at an arrival) epoch, from which important performance measures of practical interest, such as the mean queue length, the mean waiting time, and the loss probability, are also obtained. Sample numerical examples are presented at the end.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate the monotonicity properties of an unreliable M/G/1 retrial queue using the general theory of stochastic ordering. We show the monotonicity of the transition operator of the embedded Markov chain relative to the strong stochastic ordering and increasing convex ordering. We obtain conditions of comparability of two transition operators and we obtain comparability conditions of the number of customers in the system. Inequalities are derived for the mean characteristics of the busy period, number of customers served during a busy period, number of orbit busy periods and waiting times. Inequalities are also obtained for some probabilities of the steady-state distribution of the server state. An illustrative numerical example is presented.  相似文献

A novel customer service discipline for a single-server retrial queue is proposed and analysed. Arriving customers are accumulated in a pool of finite capacity. Customers arriving when the pool is full go into orbit and attempt to access the service later. It is assumed that customers access the service as a group. The size of the group is defined by the number of customers in the pool at the instant the service commences. All customers within a group finish receiving the service simultaneously. If the pool is full at the point the service finishes, a new service begins immediately and all customers from the pool begin to be served. Otherwise, the customer admission period starts. The duration of this period is random and depends on the number of customers in the pool when the admission period begins. However, if the pool becomes full before the admission period expires, this period is terminated and a new service begins. The system behaviour is described by a multi-dimensional Markov chain. The generator and the condition of ergodicity of this Markov chain are derived, and an algorithm for computing the stationary probability distribution of the states of the Markov chain is given. Formulas for computing various performance measures of the system are presented, and the results of numerical experiments show that these measures essentially depend on the capacity of the pool and the distribution of the duration of the admission period. The advantages of the proposed customer service discipline over the classical discipline and the discipline in which customers cannot enter the pool during the service period are illustrated numerically.  相似文献

This paper examines the steady state behaviour of a batch arrival queue with two phases of heterogeneous service along and Bernoulli schedule vacation under multiple vacation policy, where after two successive phases service or first vacation the server may go for further vacations until it finds a new batch of customer in the system. We carry out an extensive stationary analysis of the system, including existence of stationary regime, queue size distribution of idle period process, embedded Markov chain steady state distribution of stationary queue size, busy period distribution along with some system characteristics.  相似文献

We consider a single server retrial queue with waiting places in service area and three classes of customers subject to the server breakdowns and repairs. When the server is unavailable, the arriving class-1 customer is queued in the priority queue with infinite capacity whereas class-2 customer enters the retrial group. The class-3 customers which are also called negative customers do not receive service. If the server is found serving a customer, the arriving class-3 customer breaks the server down and simultaneously deletes the customer under service. The failed server is sent to repair immediately and after repair it is assumed as good as new. We study the ergodicity of the embedded Markov chains and their stationary distributions. We obtain the steady-state solutions for both queueing measures and reliability quantities. Moreover, we investigate the stochastic decomposition law, the busy period of the system and the virtual waiting times. Finally, an application to cellular mobile networks is provided and the effects of various parameters on the system performance are analyzed numerically.  相似文献

The GI/M/1 queue with exponential vacations   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
In this paper, we give a detailed analysis of the GI/M/1 queue with exhaustive service and multiple exponential vacation. We express the transition matrix of the imbedded Markov chain as a block-Jacobi form and give a matrix-geometric solution. The probability distribution of the queue length at arrival epochs is derived and is shown to decompose into the distribution of the sum of two independent random variables. In addition, we discuss the limiting behavior of the continuous time queue length processes and obtain the probability distributions for the waiting time and the busy period.  相似文献

In this paper, we study a discrete time Geom/Geom/1 queue with multiple working vacations. Using the quasi birth and death chain and matrix-geometric solution method, we give distributions for the number of customers in system and the waiting time of a customer and their stochastic decomposition structures, and obtain distributions of the additional number of customers and additional delay. Furthermore, we derive the formulae of expected regular busy period and expected busy cycle. Finally, by numerical examples, we analyze the effect of the parameters on the expected queue length and sojourn time.  相似文献

In this paper we characterize the queue-length distribution as well as the waiting time distribution of a single-server queue which is subject to service interruptions. Such queues arise naturally in computer and communication problems in which customers belong to different classes and share a common server under some complicated service discipline. In such queues, the viewpoint of a given class of customers is that the server is not available for providing service some of the time, because it is busy serving customers from a different class. A natural special case of these queues is the class of preemptive priority queues. In this paper, we consider arrivals according the Markovian Arrival Process (MAP) and the server is not available for service at certain times. The service times are assumed to have a general distribution. We provide numerical examples to show that our methods are computationally feasible. The Markovian arrival process (MAP) is used to represent the bursty and correlated traffic arising in modern telecommunication network. In this paper, we consider a single server finite capacity queue with general bulk service rule in which arrivals are governed by MAP and service times are arbitrarily distributed. The distributions of the number of customers in the queue at arbitrary, post-departure and pre-arrival epochs have been obtained using the supplementary variable and the embedded Markov chain techniques. Computational procedure has been given when the service time distribution is of phase type.  相似文献
