An elliptical air-hole golden spiral photonic crystal fiber (EGS-PCF) is analyzed with the full-vectorial finite element method. The air-holes in the EGS-PCF are arranged in a spiral pattern governed by the Golden Ratio, where the design has been inspired by the optimal arrangement of seeds found in nature. The EGS-PCF exhibits extremely high birefringence (~0.022 at operating wavelength 1550 nm) which is particularly useful for generating a polarization stable supercontinuum (SC). The fiber can also be designed to have a Zero Dispersion Wavelength (ZDW) at a suitable wavelength for only one polarization and large negative dispersion for the other, leading to a single-polarization SC. In addition, the fiber dispersion can be designed to obtain ZDWs at 800 nm and 1064 nm simultaneously, which can facilitate broadband supercontinuum generation (SCG) through multi-wavelength pumping.  相似文献

通过原子环境计算方法分析了正交相SrBi4Ti4O15晶体内的键络结构、各原子的空间配位数及局域团簇结构. 在此基础上, 结合晶体分解理论将SrBi4Ti4O15晶体分解为多个二元赝晶体, 根据化学键介电理论计算得到各赝晶体所对应化学键的有效价电子密度、离子性等化学键性质. 通过键偶极矩建立了铁电体自发极化强度与化学键性质之间的关系, 求得正交相SrBi4Ti4O15沿a轴方向的自发极化强度为28.03 μC/cm2, 与实验结果和其他理论计算值符合较好.  相似文献

A novel design of polarization splitter based on the complete photonic band gap has been proposed in this paper. The proposed Photonic Band Gap (PBG) polarization splitter is formed by two photonic crystal waveguides composed of dielectric rods in air in honeycomb structure for which complete photonic band gap is obtained using the plane wave expansion (PWE) method. The splitting properties (i.e. coupling length, extinction ratio and insertion loss) of PBG polarization splitter have numerically been investigated using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. It has been shown that polarization splitter of length as small as 32 μm can be designed at λ=1.55 μm. The proposed polarization splitter offers a large bandwidth of 120 nm.  相似文献

Measurements of the temperature dependence of the pyroelectric coefficients in cells with homeotropic and planar boundary conditions were performed in order to study the surface polarization and determine its nature in the isotropic phase of a nematic liquid crystal. Analysis of these data established that the ordering polarization arising as a result of the nonuniformity of the order parameter in the near-boundary region of the liquid crystal and the polar monolayer due to the bifilar properties of the molecules of the liquid crystal at the boundary with the solid wall of the cell are responsible for the surface polarization in the isotropic phase of a nematic liquid crystal. The values of the pyroelectric coefficients of monolayers and the coefficients of the ordering polarization for planar and homeotropic orientations are estimated.  相似文献

An ultrabroadband supercontinuum (SC) is demonstrated in a pure silica photonic crystal fiber (PCF) pumped by quasi-continuous wave nanosecond-long pulses at 1,064 nm. The generated SC spectra extending from 450 to at least 2,400 nm have the salient feature of a short wavelength regime below the pump wavelength, which is much higher in intensity than the long-wavelength over the pump wavelength. The influence of pump power and repetition rates on SC generation (SCG) is explored. Results suggest that this pump source has both the advantages of short-pulse and continuous-wave pumps for SCG.  相似文献

The dynamics of the domain structure of ferroelectrics with an incommensurate phase (like sodium nitrite) is considered. The polarization properties of these ferroelectrics are described using the pseudospin formalism. The equation for the polarization is numerically solved together with the equation for acoustic waves. The obtained results are analyzed for various values of the parameters of the crystal and different initial conditions. It is shown that, after a sufficiently large time, the domain structure of the crystal becomes localized.  相似文献

Nonreciprocal optical properties of anisotropic (nano-film) heterostructures made of a cholesteric and nematic liquid crystal (CLC-NLC) layers are studied. Namely, a NLC-CLC (and CLC-NLC) structures are considered in which the NLC layer is a quarter-wave plate. The problem is exactly solvable by Ambartsumians’ modified layer addition and Mullers’ transfer-matrix methods. The peculiarities of the polarization dependent properties, such as the photonic density of states, reflection spectra, the polarization plane rotation and ellipticity spectra are investigated. It is shown that such a system canwork as a light modulator, an element for obtaining linearly polarized light with an electrically tunable polarization plane rotation, or a transformer of non-polarized source into linearly polarized light. The analysis of the optical properties in investigated structures can be used for design of perspective optical diodes, microlasers and multifunctional elements on chiral liquid crystals with electrically tunable polarization plane rotation and field controlled light polarization.  相似文献

The electronic and geometrical properties of bulk americium and square and hexagonal americium monolayers have been studied with the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) method. The effects of several common approximations are examined: (1) non-spin polarization (NSP) vs. spin polarization (SP); (2) scalar-relativity (no spin-orbit coupling (NSO)) vs. full-relativity (i.e., with spin-orbit (SO) coupling included); (3) local-density approximation (LDA) vs. generalized-gradient approximation (GGA). Our results indicate that both spin polarization and spin orbit coupling play important roles in determining the geometrical and electronic properties of americium bulk and monolayers. A compression of both americium square and hexagonal monolayers compared to the americium bulk is also observed. In general, the LDA is found to underestimate the equilibrium lattice constant and give a larger total energy compared to the GGA calculations. While spin orbit coupling shows a similar effect on both square and hexagonal monolayer calculations regardless of the model, GGA versus LDA, an unusual spin polarization effect on both square and hexagonal monolayers is found in the LDA results as compared with the GGA results. The 5f delocalization transition of americium is employed to explain our observed unusual spin polarization effect. In addition, our results at the LDA level of theory indicate a possible 5f delocalization could happen in the americium surface within the same Am II (fcc crystal structure) phase, unlike the usually reported americium 5f delocalization which is associated with crystal structure change. The similarities and dissimilarities between the properties of an Am monolayer and a Pu monolayer are discussed in detail.  相似文献

Appreciable elastic strain may considerably change the physical properties of crystals. This effect underlies the elastic stress technology, which has been intensively developed in recent years. The influence of elastic strain on the density of phonon states and on the properties of discrete breathers in the gap of the phonon spectrum of a crystal with a NaCl structure and a considerable difference between the anion and cation masses is studied using the molecular dynamics method. A number of crystal straining modes are considered. It is shown that the shear components of the strain tensor may significantly change the density of phonon states but slightly influence the frequencies of discrete breathers. Compression (tensile) strains raise (lower) the frequency of discrete breathers with a respective polarization.  相似文献

In this paper we present numerical and experimental results of propagation and polarization properties of the photonic liquid crystal fibers (PLCFs) in which only selected micro holes were filled with nematic liquid crystal (LC) guest materials. As a host photonic crystal fiber (PCF) structure, we used a commercially available highly birefringent PCF (Blazephotonics, UK). A tunable laser operated at infrared has powered the PLCFs under investigation infiltrated by the 1550 nematic LC synthesized at the Military University of Technology. Temperature induced changes of the polarization mode dispersion (PMD) as well switching between fundamental and higher order modes and also single-core and two-core propagation were successfully demonstrated.  相似文献

We present an extensive investigation of the polarization properties of a femtosecond-laser-induced white-light (WL) continuum generated in a cubic crystal (CaF(2)). The WL spectrum and threshold energies have been examined for input polarizations with various degrees of ellipticity. For linear input polarization, the WL spectrum shows strong depolarization around the input wavelength, while the preservation of the input polarization is pronounced toward the blue spectral region. The observed depolarization effect has been elucidated in the framework of current models for WL generation.  相似文献

The supercontinuum generation (SCG) in liquid core photonic crystal fiber (LCPCF) with versatile nonlinear response and the spectral broadening in dual core optical fiber is presented. The analysis is presented in two phase, phase I deals with the SCG in LCPCF with the effect of saturable nonlinearity and re-orientational nonlinearity. We identify and discuss the generic nature of the saturable nonlinearity and reorientational nonlinearity in the SCG, using suitable model. For the physical explanation, modulational instability and soliton fission techniques is implemented to investigate the impact of saturable nonlinear response and slow nonlinear response, respectively. It is observed that the saturable nonlinearity inevitably suppresses the MI and the subsequent SCG. On the other hand, the re-orientational nonlinearity contributes to the slow nonlinear response in addition to the conventional fast response due to the electronic contribution. The phase II features the exclusive investigation of the spectral broadening in the dual core optical fiber.  相似文献

Properties of defect modes in chiral photonic crystals with an anisotropic defect are considered. The influence of the defect layer thickness, its location in the crystal and orientation of its optical axis, as well as of the chiral photonic crystal thickness on the properties of defect modes is studied. It is shown that at certain values of the defect layer thickness the medium loses its main property, namely, the polarization dependence of the diffraction reflection. At certain thicknesses of the defect layer this system transforms from the source of the right circular polarization into the source of the left circular polarization, if the layer position in the chiral photonic crystal changes.  相似文献

以掺镱光纤激光器为抽运源、掺铒光纤激光器后接掺铒光纤放大器为信号源,利用周期极化掺镁铌酸锂晶体,研究了全光纤化差频产生中红外激光器的转换效率特性。结果表明,抽运光和信号光偏振态影响差频产生过程的转换效率,利用偏振控制器,可将抽运光和信号光偏振方向调节到与晶体光轴方向平行,以获得高的转换效率。抽运光和信号光的光束质量既影响差频产生过程的转换效率,又决定晶体纵向位置的容限,当聚焦系统由自聚焦透镜和焦距100mm平凸透镜组成时,相对转换效率达0.717mW-2,晶体纵向位置容限为44mm。此外,差频光在3126.36~3529.6nm范围内调谐时,转换效率基本保持不变。  相似文献

We aim to study the nonlinear optical phenomena with ultra-broadband radiation in photonic crystal fibre (PCF). While PCFs with cores made from different glasses are well studied in previous works, in this paper, it is planned to investigate the dynamics of nonlinear processes of supercontinuum generation (SCG) in liquid-filled PCF (LCPCF) to understand the physical phenomena of femtosecond pulse propagation, particularly, the temporal and spectral changes of the pulse propagating through specific PCFs. Since the CS2-filled LCPCF has complex nonlinear phenomena, we intend to analyse the role of saturable nonlinear response and slow nonlinear response on SCG in detail. For the physical explanation, soliton fission and modulational instability techniques will be implemented to investigate the impact of slow nonlinear response and saturable nonlinear response respectively, in SCG process.  相似文献

A theoretical study of nematic liquid crystal filled photonic crystal fibers (LCPCFs) is presented. Detailed investigations including the polarization dependent bandgap formation and the modal properties are given for LCPCFs, in which alignment of the molecules could be controlled by external static electric field. The polarization dependent bandgap splitting caused by the high index difference between the ordinary and the extraordinary dielectric index of nematic liquid crystals provides the possibility of single-mode single-polarization guiding. A polarization operation diagram is proposed to describe the guiding behavior of LCPCFs. The influence of rotation angle ? of the director of liquid crystals on the modal properties is investigated. It is shown that the polarization axis of the guided mode is determined by the rotation angle ?, which could be controlled by external electric field.  相似文献

文章介绍了近年来利用扫描隧道显微术(STM)对表面和薄膜磁结构的研究进展。二维或表面磁结构可以通过在非磁性单晶上外延磁性单原子层薄膜形成,也可以在清洁的磁性单晶表面形成。利用磁性的STM针尖可以观测到原子分辨的表面磁结构。这将增进人们从纳米尺度对磁性的理解,并推动磁电子学的发展。  相似文献

根据光在各向同性吸收介质中传播的分析方法,引入了波法线矢量传播常量,讨论了水平极化光在单轴吸收晶体中的传播规律,得到了波法线折射率、光线折射率、吸收系数等描述吸收晶体性质和光传播性质的物理量的表达式,推导出透明晶体的相应公式.数值计算表明,由该法得到的晶体表面的反射和透射系数与用复折射率表示法得到的结论一致.  相似文献

采用时域有限差分(Finite-Difference Time-Domain,FDTD)法模拟了垂直入射红外波段二维光子晶体偏振分光镜的透射谱,从而验证了用平面波展开方法计算的二维光子晶体能带结构.用电子束蒸发方法在光栅基板上制备了Ge/BaF2多层膜,实现了二维光子晶体偏振分光镜.实验初步证明了这种光子晶体在垂直入射时具有偏振特性,分析了实验结果与理论计算之间偏差的产生原因.  相似文献
