The aim of the present study is to investigate the flow of the Casson fluid by an inclined stretching cylinder. A heat transfer analysis is carried out in the presence of thermal radiation and viscous dissipation effects. The temperature dependent thermal conductivity of the Casson fluid is considered. The relevant equations are first simplified under usual boundary layer assumptions, and then transformed into ordinary differential equations by suitable transformations. The transformed ordinary differential equations are computed for the series solutions of velocity and temperature. A convergence analysis is shown explicitly. Velocity and temperature fields are discussed for different physical parameters by graphs and numerical values. It is found that the velocity decreases with the increase in the angle of inclination while increases with the increase in the mixed convection parameter. The enhancement in the thermal conductivity and radiation effects corresponds to a higher fluid temperature. It is also found that heat transfer is more pronounced in a cylinder when it is compared with a flat plate. The thermal boundary layer thickness increases with the increase in the Eckert number. The radiation and variable thermal conductivity decreases the heat transfer rate at the surface.  相似文献

The heat transfer and entropy generation characteristics of the magnetohydrodynamic Casson fluid flow through an inclined microchannel with convective boundary conditions are analyzed.Further, the effects of the viscous forces,Joule heating, heat source/sink,and radiation on the flow are taken into account. The non-dimensional transformations are used to solve the governing equations. Then, the reduced system is resolved by the fourth-fifth order Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg method along with the shooting technique. The effects of different physical parameters on the heat transfer and entropy generation are discussed in detail through graphs. From the perspective of numerical results,it is recognized that the production of entropy can be improved with the Joule heating, viscous dissipation, and convective heating aspects. It is concluded that the production of entropy is the maximum with increases in the Casson parameter, the angle of inclination, and the Hartmann number. Both the Reynolds number and the radiation parameter cause the dual impact on entropy generation.  相似文献

In this paper, the effects of viscous and Ohmic heating and heat generation/absorption on magnetohydrodynamic flow of an electrically conducting Casson thin film fluid over an unsteady horizontal stretching sheet in a non-Darcy porous medium are investigated. The fluid is assumed to slip along the boundary of the sheet. Similarity transformation is used to translate the governing partial differential equations into ordinary differential equations. A shooting technique in conjunction with the 4 th order Runge-Kutta method is used to solve the transformed equations. Computations are carried out for velocity and temperature of the fluid thin film along with local skin friction coefficient and local Nusselt number for a range of values of pertinent flow parameters. It is observed that the Casson parameter has the ability to enhance free surface velocity and film thickness, whereas the Forchheimer parameter, which is responsible for the inertial drag has an adverse effect on the fluid velocity inside the film. The velocity slip along the boundary tends to decrease the fluid velocity. This investigation has various applications in engineering and in practical problems such as very large scale integration(VLSI) of electronic chips and film coating.  相似文献

We present the results of lattice Boltzmann (LB) simulations for the planar-flow of viscoplastic fluids through complex flow channels. In this study, the Bingham and Casson model fluids are covered as viscoplastic fluid. The Papanastasiou (modified Bingham) model and the modified Casson model are employed in our LB simulations. The Bingham number is an essential physical parameter when considering viscoplastic fluid flows and the modified Bingham number is proposed for modified viscoplastic models. When the value of the modified Bingham number agrees with that of the “normal” Bingham number, viscoplastic fluid flows formulated by modified viscoplastic models strictly reproduce the flow behavior of the ideal viscoplastic fluids. LB simulations are extensively performed for viscoplastic fluid flows through complex flow channels with rectangular and circular obstacles. It is shown that the LB method (LBM) allows us to successfully compute the flow behavior of viscoplastic fluids in various complicated-flow channels with rectangular and circular obstacles. For even low Re and high Bn numbers corresponding to plastic-property dominant condition, it is clearly manifested that the viscosity for both the viscoplastic fluids is largely decreased around solid obstacles. Also, it is shown that the viscosity profile is quite different between both the viscoplastic fluids due to the inherent nature of the models. The viscosity of the Bingham fluid sharply drops down close to the plastic viscosity, whereas the viscosity of the Casson fluid does not rapidly fall. From this study, it is demonstrated that the LBM can be also an effective methodology for computing viscoplastic fluid flows through complex channels including circular obstacles.  相似文献

A steady boundary layer flow of a non-Newtonian Casson fluid over a power-law stretching sheet is investigated. A self-similar form of the governing equation is obtained, and numerical solutions are found for various values of the governing parameters. The solutions depend on the fluid material parameter. Dual solutions are obtained for some particular range of these parameters. The fluid velocity is found to decrease as the power-law stretching parameter β in the rheological Casson equation increases. At large values of β, the skin friction coefficient and the velocity profile across the boundary layer for the Casson fluid tend to those for the Newtonian fluid.  相似文献

The problem of boundary-layer flow and heat transfer of a non-Newtonian power-law fluid over a moving porous infinite flat plate in the presence of viscous dissipation and heat generation or absorption is investigated analytically. It is assumed that both the momentum and the energy equations are coupled by the stress friction factor, and an assumption is introduced regarding the heat-transfer index. It is found that exact analytical solutions for velocity and temperature exist only for pseudoplastic fluids in the presence of suction at the surface. The effects of the suction parameter, Eckert number, and the heat generation or absorption parameter on the velocity and temperature profiles, as well as on the skin-friction coefficient and Nusselt number are discussed.  相似文献

The boundary layer flow of a Casson fluid due to a stretching cylinder is discussed in the presence of nanoparticles and thermal radiation. All physical properties of the Casson fluid except the thermal conductivity are taken constant. Appropriate transformations yield the nonlinear ordinary differential systems. Convergent series solutions are developed and analyzed. The numerical results for the local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are demonstrated. It is found that an increase in the strength of the Brownian motion decays the temperature noticeably. However, the rate of heat transfer and the concentration of the nanoparticles at the surface increase for larger Brownian motion parameters.  相似文献

The main aim of the present work is to investigate the flow and heat transport properties of non-Newtonian Casson-Williamson fluid through an upright microchannel along with entropy generation analysis, and explore the effects of convective boundary conditions, Couette-Poiseuille flow, and nonlinear radiation. The movement of liquid is scrutinized with the Hall effect and exponential heat source. The rheological characteristics of the Casson-Williamson fluid model are also considered. By considering the desirable similarity variables, the equations of motion are reduced to nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg fourth-fifth order method along with the shooting method is adopted to solve these dimensionless expressions. The detailed investigation is pictorially displayed to show the influence of effective parameters on the entropy generation and the Bejan number. One of the major tasks of the exploration is to compare the Casson fluid and the Williamson fluid. The results show that the rate of heat transfer in the Casson fluid is more remarkable than that in the Williamson fluid.  相似文献

Based on the two-energy equation model, taking into account viscous dissipation due to the interaction between solid skeleton and pore fluid flow, temperature expressions of the solid skeleton and pore fluid flow are obtained analytically for the thermally developing forced convection in a saturated porous medium parallel plate channel, with walls being at constant temperature. It is proved that the temperatures of the two phases for the local thermal nonequilibrium approach to the temperature derived from the one-energy equation model for the local thermal equilibrium when the heat exchange coefficient goes to infinite. The temperature profiles are shown in figures for different dimensionless parameters and the effects of the parameters on the local thermal nonequilibrium are revealed by parameter study.  相似文献

Lubricants today are subjected to increasing mechanical shearing forces. This has resulted in an increasing interest in materials having variable viscosity. The problem of rotating circular thrust bearing is investigated with Casson fluid as a shear thinning lubricant. The pressure and load capacity of the thrust bearing is calculated when the feeding is done from the centre of the plates to the periphery. Also, moment of friction acting on the plates is calculated for different values of Casson number and for various values of ratio of inside to outside radius. It has been found that there is a decrease in the value of load capacity of the Casson lubricant. Also, it has been observed that there is an appreciable increase in the values of moment of friction for Casson fluid.  相似文献

The effect of lateral mass flux on mixed convection heat and mass transfer in a saturated porous medium adjacent to an inclined permeable surface is analyzed. A similarity solution is obtained when surface temperature and concentration, free stream velocity and injection/suction velocity of fluid are prescribed as power functions of distance from the leading edge. The cases when the flow and buoyancy forces are in the same and opposite directions are discussed both for aiding and opposing buoyancy effects. The governing parameters are the mixed convection parameter Gr, the Lewis number Le, the buoyancy ratio N, the lateral mass flux parameter f w, representing the effects of injection or withdrawal of fluid at the wall, and λ which specifies three cases of the inclined plate. The interactive effect of these parameters on heat and mass transfer rates are presented. It is observed that the diffusion ratio (Le) has a more pronounced effect on concentration field than on flow and temperature fields. It is found that the rates of heat and mass transfer increase with suction and decrease with injection of the fluid. Received on 31 August 2000 / Published online: 29 November 2001  相似文献

The steady flow and heat transfer of a couple stress fluid due to an inclined stretching cylinder are analyzed. The thermal conductivity is assumed to be temperature dependent. The governing equations for the flow and heat transfer are transformed into ordinary differential equations. Series solutions of the resulting problem are computed. The effects of various interested parameters, e.g., the couple stress parameter, the angle of inclination, the mixed convection parameter, the Prandtl number, the Reynolds number, the radiation parameter, and the variable thermal conductivity parameter, are illustrated. The skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number are computed and analyzed. It is observed that the heat transfer rate at the surface increases while the velocity and the shear stress decrease when the couple stress parameter and the Reynolds number increase. The temperature increases when the Reynolds number increases.  相似文献

The aim of the present paper is to study flow and heat transfer characteristics of a viscous Casson thin film flow over an unsteady stretching sheet subject to variable heat flux in the presence of slip velocity condition and viscous dissipation. The governing equations are partial differential equations. They are reduced to a set of highly nonlinear ordinary differential equations by suitable similarity transformations. The resulting similarity equations are solved numerically with a shooting method. Comparisons with previous works are made, and the results are found to be in excellent agreement. In the present work, the effects of the unsteadiness parameter, the Casson parameter, the Eckert number, the slip velocity parameter, and the Prandtl number on flow and heat transfer characteristics are discussed. Also, the local skin-friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number at the stretching sheet are computed and discussed.  相似文献

The onset of double diffusive convection in a two component couple stress fluid layer with Soret and Dufour effects has been studied using both linear and non-linear stability analysis. The linear theory depends on normal mode technique and non-linear analysis depends on a minimal representation of double Fourier series. The effect of couple stress parameter, the Soret and Dufour parameters, and the Prandtl number on the stationary and oscillatory convection are presented graphically. The Dufour parameter enhances the stability of the couple stress fluid system in case of both stationary and oscillatory mode. The effect of positive Soret parameter is to destabilize the system in case of stationary mode while it stabilizes the system in case of oscillatory mode. The negative Soret parameter enhances the stability in both stationary and oscillatory mode. The couple stress parameter enhances the stability of the system in both stationary and oscillatory modes. The Dufour parameter increases the heat transfer while the couple stress parameter has reverse effect. The Soret parameter has negligible influence on heat transfer. Both Dufour and Soret parameters increases the mass transfer while the couple stress parameter has dual effect depending on the value of the Rayleigh number.  相似文献

Natural convective heat transfer and fluid flow in a vertical rectangular duct filled with a nanofluid is studied numerically assuming the thermal conductivity to be dependent on the fluid temperature. The transport equations for mass, momentum and energy formulated in dimensionless form are solved numerically using finite difference method. Particular efforts have been focused on the effects of the thermal conductivity variation parameter, Grashof number, Brinkman number, nanoparticles volume fraction, aspect ratio and type of nanoparticles on the fluid flow and heat transfer inside the cavity. It is found that the flow was enhanced for the increase in Grashof number, Brinkman number and aspect ratio for any values of conductivity variation parameter and for regular fluid and nanofluid. The heat transfer rate for regular fluid is less than that for the nanofluid for all governing parameters.  相似文献

An exact and a numerical solutions to the problem of a steady mixed convective MHD flow of an incompressible viscous electrically conducting fluid past an infinite vertical porous plate with combined heat and mass transfer are presented.A uniform magnetic field is assumed to be applied transversely to the direction of the flow with the consideration of the induced magnetic field with viscous and magnetic dissipations of energy. The porous plate is subjected to a constant suction velocity as well as a uniform mixed stream velocity. The governing equations are solved by the perturbation technique and a numerical method. The analytical expressions for the velocity field, the temperature field, the induced magnetic field, the skin-friction,and the rate of heat transfer at the plate are obtained. The numerical results are demonstrated graphically for various values of the parameters involved in the problem. The effects of the Hartmann number, the chemical reaction parameter, the magnetic Prandtl number, and the other parameters involved in the velocity field, the temperature field, the concentration field, and the induced magnetic field from the plate to the fluid are discussed. An increase in the heat source/sink or the Eckert number is found to strongly enhance the fluid velocity values. The induced magnetic field along the x-direction increases with the increase in the Hartmann number, the magnetic Prandtl number, the heat source/sink,and the viscous dissipation. It is found that the flow velocity, the fluid temperature, and the induced magnetic field decrease with the increase in the destructive chemical reaction.Applications of the study arise in the thermal plasma reactor modelling, the electromagnetic induction, the magnetohydrodynamic transport phenomena in chromatographic systems, and the magnetic field control of materials processing.  相似文献

Two-fluid magnetoconvection in a vertical enclosure consisting of two regions, one electrically conducting and another electrically non-conducting is investigated analytically. The transport properties of both fluids are assumed constant. The resulting coupled non-linear equations are solved using regular perturbation method. It is found that the effect of negative electric load parameter E is to aid the flow while the effect of positive E is to oppose the flow as compared to the case when E=0. The effects of various physical parameters such as Grashof number, viscosity ratio and width ratio are presented for heat absorption and heat generation case.  相似文献

Thermal conduction which happens in all phases(liquid, solid, and gas) is the transportation of internal energy through minuscule collisions of particles and movement of electrons within a working body. The colliding particles comprise electrons, molecules, and atoms, and transfer disorganized microscopic potential and kinetic energy, mutually known as the internal energy. In engineering sciences, heat transfer comprises the processes of convection, thermal radiation, and sometimes mass transportation.Typically, more than one of these procedures may happen in a given circumstance. We use the Cattaneo-Christov(CC) heat flux model instead of the Fourier law of heat conduction to discuss the behavior of heat transportation.A mathematical model is presented for the Cattaneo-Christov double diffusion(CCDD) in the flow of a non-Newtonian nanofluid(the Jeffrey fluid) towards a stretched surface. The magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) fluid is considered. The behaviors of heat and mass transportation rates are discussed with the CCDD.These models are based on Fourier's and Fick's laws. The convective transportation in nanofluids is discussed, subject to thermophoresis and Brownian diffusions. The nonlinear governing flow expression is first altered into ordinary differential equations via appropriate transformations, and then numerical solutions are obtained through the built-in-shooting method. The impact of sundry flow parameters is discussed on the velocity, the skin friction coefficient, the temperature, and the concentration graphically. It is reported that the velocity of material particles decreases with higher values of the Deborah number and the ratio of the relaxation to retardation time parameter. The temperature distribution enhances when the Brownian motion and thermophoresis parameters increase. The concentration shows contrasting impact versus the Lewis number and the Brownian motion parameter. It is also noticed that the skin friction coefficient decreases when the ratio of the relaxation to retardation time parameter increases.  相似文献

An analysis is presented to describe the boundary layer flow and heat transfer towards a porous exponential stretching sheet. Velocity and thermal slips are considered instead of no-slip conditions at the boundary. Thermal radiation term is incorporated in the temperature equation. Similarity transformations are used to convert the partial differential equations corresponding to the momentum and heat equations into highly non-linear ordinary differential equations. Numerical solutions of these equations are obtained by shooting method. It is found that the fluid velocity and temperature decrease with increasing slip parameter. Temperature is found to decrease with an increase of thermal slip parameter. Thermal radiation enhances the effective thermal diffusivity and the temperature rises.  相似文献
