A duality theorem for generalized local cohomology

We prove a duality theorem for graded algebras over a field that implies several known duality results: graded local duality, versions of Serre duality for local cohomology and of Suzuki duality for generalized local cohomology, and Herzog-Rahimi bigraded duality.

     

Duality and vanishing of generalized local cohomology

In this paper we study local duality and the vanishing and non-vanishing of generalized local cohomology. In particular for a local ring R and a finitely generated R-module N, the category $N^\bot$ of finitely generated R-modules M with $H^{i}_{\frak m}(M, N) = 0$ for all i depth N is studied.Received: 31 October 2002     

Vanishing and bases for cohomology of partially trivial local systems on hyperplane arrangements

In this paper we prove a vanishing theorem and construct bases for the cohomology of partially trivial local systems on complements of hyperplane arrangements. As a result, we obtain a non-resonance condition for partially trivial local systems.

     

Stable local cohomology

For a module having a complete injective resolution, we define a stable version of local cohomology. This gives a functor to the stable category of Gorenstein injective modules. We show that in many ways this functor behaves like the usual local cohomology functor. Our main result is that when there is only one nonzero local cohomology module, there is a strong connection between that module and the stable local cohomology module; in fact, the latter gives a Gorenstein injective approximation of the former.     

Integral crystalline cohomology over very ramified valuation rings

We explain how to set up an integral version ( as opposed to ) of Fontaine's comparison between crystalline and étale cohomology, over -adic fields with arbitrary ramification index. The main results then are that Fontaine's map respects integrality of Tate-cycles, and a construction of versal deformations of -divisible groups with Tate-cycles. An appendix deals with finite generation of crystalline cohomology.

     

On the crystalline cohomology of Deligne–Lusztig varieties

Let $X\to Y^0$ be an abelian prime-to-p Galois covering of smooth schemes over a perfect field k of characteristic $p>0$. Let Y be a smooth compactification of $Y^0$ such that $Y-Y^0$ is a normal crossings divisor on Y. We describe a logarithmic F-crystal on Y whose rational crystalline cohomology is the rigid cohomology of X, in particular provides a natural $W[F]$-lattice inside the latter; here W is the Witt vector ring of k. If a finite group G acts compatibly on X, $Y^0$ and Y then our construction is G-equivariant. As an example we apply it to Deligne–Lusztig varieties. For a finite field k, if $\mathbb{G}$ is a connected reductive algebraic group defined over k and $\mathbb{L}$ a k-rational torus satisfying a certain standard condition, we obtain a meaningful equivariant $W[F]$-lattice in the cohomology (ℓ-adic or rigid) of the corresponding Deligne–Lusztig variety and an expression of its reduction modulo p in terms of equivariant Hodge cohomology groups.     

The Cech filtration and monodromy in log crystalline cohomology

For a strictly semistable log scheme over a perfect field of characteristic we investigate the canonical Cech spectral sequence abutting the Hyodo-Kato (log crystalline) cohomology of and beginning with the log convergent cohomology of its various component intersections . We compare the filtration on arising from with the monodromy operator on . We also express through residue maps and study relations with singular cohomology. If lifts to a proper strictly semistable (formal) scheme over a finite totally ramified extension of , with generic fibre , we obtain results on how the simplicial structure of (as analytic space) is reflected in .

     

A remark on cuspidal local systems

In this note we show that all reductive groups are clean in characteristic ?3. In characteristic 2 there are two cuspidal local systems (one for F₄ and one for E₈) which can not be handled by our method.

Artinianess of graded local cohomology modules

Let be a Noetherian homogeneous ring with local base ring and let be a finitely generated graded -module. Let be the largest integer such that is not Artinian. We will prove that are Artinian for all and there exists a polynomial of degree less than such that for all . Let be the first integer such that the local cohomology module is not cofinite. We will show that for all the graded module is Artinian.

     

Duality Construction of Moduli Spaces

The duality of moduli spaces of coherent sheaves on curves and surfaces gives a GIT free construction of these spaces. It is a suitable generalization for topics as: strange duality, jumping lines of vector bundles on projective space, and Faltings' construction of the moduli space of semistable vector bundles on a complex curve given in his article Stable G-bundles and projective connections. Using this duality we propose a construction for the moduli space of semistable sheaves on a surface.     

Gorenstein injective modules and local cohomology

In this paper we assume that is a Gorenstein Noetherian ring. We show that if is also a local ring with Krull dimension that is less than or equal to 2, then for any nonzero ideal of , is Gorenstein injective. We establish a relation between Gorenstein injective modules and local cohomology. In fact, we will show that if is a Gorenstein ring, then for any -module its local cohomology modules can be calculated by means of a resolution of by Gorenstein injective modules. Also we prove that if is -Gorenstein, is a Gorenstein injective and is a nonzero ideal of , then is Gorenstein injective.

Some criteria for the Cohen-Macaulay property and local cohomology

Let a be an ideal of a commutative Noetherian ring R and M be a finitely generated R-module of dimension d. We characterize Cohen-Macaulay rings in term of a special homological dimension. Lastly, we prove that if R is a complete local ring, then the Matlis dual of top local cohomology module Ha^d（M） is a Cohen-Macaulay R-module provided that the R-module M satisfies some conditions.     

Variation of local systems and parabolic cohomology

Given a family of local systems on a punctured Riemann sphere, with moving singularities, its first parabolic cohomology is a local system on the base space. We study this situation from different points of view. For instance, we derive universal formulas for the monodromy of the resulting local system. We use a particular example of our construction to prove that the simple groups PSL₂(p ²) admit regular realizations over the field ℚ(t) for primesp≢ 1, 4, 16 mod 21.     

On the finiteness properties of Matlis duals of local cohomology modules

Let R be a complete semi-local ring with respect to the topology defined by its Jacobson radical, a an ideal of R, and M a finitely generated R-module. Let D _R (−) := Hom _R (−, E), where E is the injective hull of the direct sum of all simple R-modules. If n is a positive integer such that Ext _R ^j (R/a, D _R (H _a ^t (M))) is finitely generated for all t > n and all j ⩾ 0, then we show that Hom _R (R/a, D _R (H _a ⁿ (M))) is also finitely generated. Specially, the set of prime ideals in Coass _R (H _a ⁿ (M)) which contains a is finite. Next, assume that (R, m) is a complete local ring. We study the finiteness properties of D _R (H _a ^r (R)) where r is the least integer i such that H _a ^r (R) is not Artinian.
