The effects of different drying temperatures on the drying kinetics of tomato slices were investigated using a cabinet-type dryer. The experimental drying data were fitted best to the to the Page and Modified Page models apart from other theoretical models to predict the drying kinetics. The effective moisture diffusivities varied from 1.015 × 10−9 to 2.650 × 10−9 ms−1over the temperature range studied, and activation energy was 22.981 kJ mol−1.  相似文献

This paper presents an experimental and theoretical investigation of drying of moist slab, cylinder and spherical products to study dimensionless moisture content distributions and their comparisons. Experimental study includes the measurement of the moisture content distributions of slab and cylindrical carrot, slab and cylindrical pumpkin and spherical blueberry during drying at various temperatures (e.g., 30, 40, 50 and 60°C) at specific constant velocity (U = 1 m/s) and the relative humidity φ = 30%. In theoretical analysis, two moisture transfer models are used to determine drying process parameters (e.g., drying coefficient and lag factor) and moisture transfer parameters (e.g., moisture diffusivity and moisture transfer coefficient), and to calculate the dimensionless moisture content distributions. The calculated results are then compared with the experimental moisture data. A considerably high agreement is obtained between the calculations and experimental measurements for the cases considered. The effective diffusivity values were evaluated between 0.741 × 10−5 and 5.981 × 10−5 m2/h for slab products, 0.818 × 10−5 and 6.287 × 10−5 m2/h for cylindrical products and 1.213 × 10−7 and 7.589 × 10−7 m2/h spherical products using the Model-I and 0.316 × 10−5–5.072 × 10−5 m2/h for slab products, 0.580 × 10−5–9.587 × 10−5 m2/h for cylindrical products and 1.408 × 10−7–13.913 × 10−7 m2/h spherical products using the Model-II.  相似文献

The effect of blanching and drying temperature (50, 60 and 70°C) on drying kinetics and rehydration ratio of sweet potatoes was investigated. It was observed that both the drying temperature and blanching affected the drying time and rehydration ratio. The logarithmic model showed the best fit to experimental drying data. The values of effective moisture diffusivity and activation energy ranged from 9.32 × 10−11 to 1.75 × 10−10 m2/s, and 22.7–23.2 kJ/mol, respectively.  相似文献

The passage of solid spheres through a liquid–liquid interface was experimentally investigated using a high-speed video and PIV (particle image velocimetry) system. Experiments were conducted in a square Plexiglas column of 0.1 m. The Newtonian Emkarox (HV45 50 and 65% wt) aqueous solutions were employed for the dense phase, while different silicone oils of different viscosity ranging from 10 to 100 mPa s were used as light phase. Experimental results quantitatively reveal the effect of the sphere’s size, interfacial tension and viscosity of both phases on the retaining time and the height of the liquid entrained behind the sphere. These data were combined with our previous results concerning the passage of a rising bubble through a liquid–liquid interface in order to propose a general relationship for the interface breakthrough for the wide range of Mo 1/Mo 2 ∈ [2 × 10−5–5 × 104] and Re 1/Re 2 ∈ [2 × 10−3–5 × 102].  相似文献

Transient elongational rheology of two commercial-grade polypropylene (PP) and the organoclay thermoplastic nanocomposites is investigated. A specifically designed fixture consisting of two drums (SER Universal Testing Platform) mounted on a TA Instruments ARES rotational rheometer was used to measure the transient uniaxial extensional viscosity of both polypropylene and nanoclay/PP melts. The Hencky strain rate was varied from 0.001 to 2 s − 1, and the temperature was fixed at 180°C. The measurements show that the steady-state elongational viscosity was reached at the measured Hencky strains for the polymer and for the nanocomposites. The addition of nanoclay particles to the polymer melt was found to increase the elongation viscosity principally at low strain rates. For example, at a deformation rate of 0.3 s − 1, the steady-state elongation viscosity for polypropylene was 1.4 × 104 Pa s which was raised to 2.8 × 104 and 4.5 × 104 Pa s after addition of 0.5 and 1.5 vol.% nanoclay, respectively. A mesoscopic rheological model originally developed to predict the motion of ellipsoid particles in viscoelastic media was modified based on the recent developments by Eslami and Grmela (Rheol Acta 47:399–415, 2008) to take into account the polymer chain reptation. We show that the orientation states of the particles and the rheological behavior of the layered particles/thermoplastic hybrids can be quantitatively explained by the proposed model.  相似文献

Based on the mass transfer theory, a new mass transfer model of ion-exchange process on zeolite under liquid film diffusion control is established, and the kinetic curves and the mass transfer coefficients of –K+ ion-exchange under different conditions were systemically determined using the shallow-bed experimental method. The results showed that the –K+ ion-exchange rates and transfer coefficients are directly proportional to solution flow rate and temperature, and inversely proportional to solution viscosity and the size of zeolite granules. It also showed that the transfer coefficient is not influenced by the ion concentrations. For a large ranges of operational conditions including temperatures (10 − 75°C), flow rates (0.031 m s−1 −0.26 m s−1), liquid viscosities (1.002 × 10−3 N s m−2 − 4.44 × 10−3 N s m−2), and zeolite granular sizes (0.2 − 1.45 mm), the average mass transfer coefficients calculated by the model agree with the experimental results very well.  相似文献

The mechanism of precursor ionization ahead of strong shock waves has been studied in a low density shock tube. The experimental results are illustrated with Arrhenius plots with kink points dividing them into two parts with apparent activation energy ratio 1:2, namely with the values 7.7 eV and 15.3 eV, and varying with first and third power of the density respectively. A model is proposed to interpret the facts where the process taking place in the precursor region, is a two step photo ionization accompanied with the drift flow effect of the gas relative to the shock wave or the ionization recombination effect according to whether the shock speed and initial density are low enough. Kinetics of deformation and fracture of nickel–iron alloy Inconel 718 under dynamic shear loading was measured using a split torsional Hopkinson bar facility and high-speed photography. Tubular specimens with a reduced gage length and a starter notch were sheared at strain rates up to 6 × 103 s−1. High-speed photographs of fiducial lines scribed on the specimen surface showed the development of local strains and cracking. This paper describes the experimental and analytical procedures, illustrates average and local plastic strain evolution, and presents shear crack initiation times and propagation speeds.  相似文献

Shear and extensional viscosities and wall slip are determined simultaneously under extrusion processing conditions using an on-line rheometer. Because it is not possible to independently control flow rate and temperature, classical methods for interpretation of capillary data cannot be used with on-line rheometry. This limitation is overcome using computational optimization to fit parameters in a flow model. This consists of three parts, representing shear viscosity, extensional viscosity, and wall slip. Three-parameter, power law forms, based on local instantaneous deformation rates and including temperature dependence, are used for each, and analytic solutions applied for entry flow and flow in the capillary. For entry flow, the Cogswell–Binding approach is used, and for developed flow in the capillary a solution incorporating wall slip is derived. The rheometer, with interchangeable capillaries, is mounted in place of the die on a rubber profile extrusion line. Pressure drops and temperatures for extrusion of an EPDM rubber through 2 mm diameter capillaries of length 0, 2, 3, 4, and 5 mm are logged and flow rates determined for a range of extruder speeds (5 to 20 rpm). Pressures ranged from 60 to 75 bar and temperatures from 86 to 116 °C. Mean flow velocity in the capillaries was between 5 × 10−3 and 5 × 10−1 m s−1. The nine material parameters are optimized for best fit of the analytic pressure drops to experimental data, using about 100 data points, with the Levenberg–Marquardt method. It is concluded that flow is dominated by extension and wall slip. Shear flow appears to play little part. The slip model indicates that slip velocity increases much more rapidly than the wall shear stress (in the range 0.5–1 MPa) and decreases with temperature for a given stress level. Results for the (uniaxial) extensional viscosity represent an engineering approximation to this complex phenomenon at the high strains (approximately 200) and high extension rates (up to 800 s−1) applying in the extrusion. Results indicate a slight extension hardening and a decrease with temperature. Results are put into the context of the available studies in the literature, which, particularly with regard to wall-slip and extensional flow, consider conditions far removed from those applying in industrial extrusion. The present methods provide a powerful means for flow characterization under processing conditions, providing data suitable for use in computer simulations of extrusion and optimization of die design.  相似文献

Competitive Methane Desorption by Supercritical CO2 Injection in Coal   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A large diameter (∼70 mm) dry coal sample was used to study the competitive displacement of CH4 by injection of supercritical CO2, and CO2–CH4 counter-diffusion in coal matrix. During the test, a staged loading procedure, which allows the calibration of the key reservoir modelling parameters in a sequential and progressive manner, was employed. The core-flooding test was history matched using an Enhanced Coalbed Methane (ECBM) simulator, in which Fick’s Law for mixed gas diffusion and the extended Langmuir equations are implemented. The system pressure rise during the two loading stages and the CO2 breakthrough time in the final production stage were matched by using the pair of constant sorption times (9 and 3.2 days) for CH4 and CO2, respectively. The corresponding diffusion coefficients for CH4 and CO2 were estimated to be 1.6 ×  10−12 and 4.6 ×  10−12 m2/s, respectively. Comparison was made with published gas diffusion coefficients for dry ground samples (ranging from < 0.063 to ∼3 mm) of the same coal at relatively low pressures (< 4 MPa). The CO2/CH4 gas diffusion coefficient ratio was well within the reported range (2–3), whereas the CH4 diffusion coefficient obtained from history matching of the core-flooding test is approximately 15 times smaller than that arrived by curve-fitting the measured sorption uptake rate using a unipore diffusion model. The calibrated model prediction of the effluent gas composition was in good agreement with the test data for CO2 mole fraction of up to 20%.  相似文献

The torsional split Hopkinson bar is used for testing materials at strain rates above 104s−1. This strain rate, which is an order of magnitude higher than is typical with this technique, is obtained by using very short specimens. Strain rates of 6.4×104s−1 have been achieved with specimens having a gage length of 0.1524 mm. Results from tests on 1100 aluminum show an increase in rate sensitivity as the strain rate increases.  相似文献

The influence of strain rate, moisture content and loading direction on the stress-strain relationships for spruce wood has been investigated. The strain rates were approximately 8×10−3 s−1, 17s−1 and 1000 s−1, and the states of moisture content were those corresponding to oven dry, fiber saturated and fully saturated. Compressive loads were applied along the principal directions of the stem of the tree, i.e., radially, tangentially and axially. The low and medium strain-rate tests were performed with the aid of a servohydraulic testing machine, while the high strain-rate tests were carried out using the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) technique. Magnesium or steel bars were used in the different SHPB tests in order to reduce impedance mismatch for the different directions of the wood specimens. The strain rate was found to have large influence on the behavior of the wood, especially under the condition of full saturation, where water transport in the deforming specimen is of major importance.  相似文献

A new microscale uniaxial tension experimental method was developed to investigate the strain rate dependent mechanical behavior of freestanding metallic thin films for MEMS. The method allows for highly repeatable mechanical testing of thin films for over eight orders of magnitude of strain rate. Its repeatability stems from the direct and full-field displacement measurements obtained from optical images with at least 25 nm displacement resolution. The method is demonstrated with micron-scale, 400-nm thick, freestanding nanocrystalline Pt specimens, with 25 nm grain size. The experiments were conducted in situ under an optical microscope, equipped with a digital high-speed camera, in the nominal strain rate range 10−6–101 s−1. Full field displacements were computed by digital image correlation using a random speckle pattern generated onto the freestanding specimens. The elastic modulus of Pt, E = 182 ± 8 GPa, derived from uniaxial stress vs. strain curves, was independent of strain rate, while its Poisson’s ratio was v = 0.41 ± 0.01. Although the nanocrystalline Pt films had the elastic properties of bulk Pt, their inelastic property values were much higher than bulk and were rate-sensitive over the range of loading rates. For example, the elastic limit increased by more than 110% with increasing strain rate, and was 2–5 times higher than bulk Pt reaching 1.37 GPa at 101 s−1.  相似文献

The dynamic yield strengths of three steels were determined at strain rates of about 103 s−1 and 106 s−1. The measurements at 103 s−1 were obtained by a new technique based on measurements of large amplitude elastic waves in long bars struck by rigid flyer plates. Embedded manganin gages were used to measure stress, and the gage records were long enough to observe subsequent reverberations between the bar free end and the plastically deformed impact end. The measurements at 106 s−1 were made with a slightly modified version of a conventional flyer-plate impact configuration. The data are combined with static results to show the behavior of these steels at strain rates of 10−3 s−1 to 106 s−1.  相似文献

Experiments in a parallel band apparatus and a transparent concentric cylinder device allow the observation of bubble deformation (shape and orientation) and breakup as a function of the viscosity ratio λ and the Capillary number Ca. For viscosity ratios between 3.1 × 10−7 and 6.7 × 10−8, critical Capillary numbers Ca c for bubble breakup between 29 and 45 are found. It is furthermore shown that in the given parameter space no clear distinction between tip breakup and fracture can be made for bubbles. An erratum to this article can be found at  相似文献

In this study, the effect of drying temperature on drying behaviour and mass transfer parameters of lemon slices was investigated. The drying experiments were conducted in a laboratory air ventilated oven dryer at temperatures of 50, 60 and 75 °C. It was observed that the drying temperature affected the drying time and drying rate significantly. Drying rate curves revealed that the process at the temperature levels taken place in the falling rate period entirely. The usefulness of eight thin layer models to simulate the drying kinetics was evaluated and the Midilli and Kucuk model showed the best fit to experimental drying curves. The effective moisture diffusivity was determined on the basis of Fick’s second law and obtained to be 1.62 × 10?11, 3.25 × 10?11 and 8.11 × 10?11 m2 s?1 for the temperatures of 50, 60 and 75 °C, respectively. The activation energy and Arrhenius constant were calculated to be 60.08 kJ mol?1 and 0.08511 m2 s?1, respectively. The average value of convective mass transfer coefficient for the drying temperatures of 50, 60 and 75 °C was calculated to be 5.71 × 10?7, 1.62 × 10?6 and 2.53 × 10?6 m s?1, respectively.  相似文献

Mechanical properties of most metallic materials can be improved by reducing their grain size. One of the methods used to reduce the grain size even to the nanometer level is the severe plastic deformation processing. Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP) is one of the most promising severe plastic deformation processes for the nanocrystallization of ductile metals. Nanocrystalline and ultrafine grained metals usually have significantly higher strength properties but lower tensile ductility compared to the coarse grained metals. In this work, the torsion properties of ECAP processed ultrafine grained pure 1070 aluminum were studied in a wide range of strain rates using both servohydraulic materials testing machines and Hopkinson Split Bar techniques. The material exhibits extremely high ductility in torsion and the specimens did not fail even after 300% of strain. Pronounced yield point behavior was observed at strain rates 500 s−1 and higher, whereas at lower strain rates the yielding was continuous. The material showed slight strain softening at the strain rate of 10−4 s−1, almost ideally plastic behavior at strain rates between 10−3 s−1 and 500 s−1, and slight but increasing strain hardening at strain rates higher than that. The tests were monitored using digital cameras, and the strain distributions on the surface of the specimens were calculated using digital image correlation. The strain in the specimen localized very rapidly after yielding at all strain rates, and the localization lead to the development of a shear band. At high strain rates the shear band developed faster than at low strain rates.  相似文献

Understanding the radiation embrittlement of reactor pressure vessel (RPV) steels is required to be able to operate safely a nuclear power plant or to extend its lifetime. The mechanical properties degradation is partly due to the clustering of solute under irradiation. To gain knowledge about the clustering process, a Fe−1.1 Mn−0.7 Ni (at.%) alloy was irradiated in a test reactor at two fluxes of 0.15 and 9 ×1017 n E > 1MeV .m − 2.s − 1 and at increasing doses from 0.18 to 1.3 ×1024 n E > 1MeV .m − 2 at 300°C. Atom probe tomography (APT) experiments revealed that the irradiation promotes the formation in the α iron matrix of Mn/Mn and/or Ni/Ni pair correlations at low dose and Mn–Ni enriched clusters at high dose. These clusters dissolve partially after a thermal treatment at 400°C. Based on a comparison with thermodynamic calculations, we show that the solute clustering under irradiation can just result from an induced mechanism.  相似文献

Experimental results are reported for the response of an initially turbulent boundary layer (Re θ≈1700) to a favourable pressure gradient with a peak value of K≡(−υ/ρU 3 E ) dp/dx equal to 4.4×10-6. In the near-wall region of the boundary layer (y/δ<0.1) the turbulence intensity u′ scales roughly with the free-stream velocity U E until close to the location where K is a maximum whereas in the outer region u′ remains essentially frozen. Once the pressure gradient is relaxed, the turbulence level increases throughout the boundary layer until K falls to zero when the near wall u′ levels show a significant decrease. The intermittency γ is the clearest indicator of a fundamental change in the turbulence structure: once K exceeds 3×10-6, the value of γ in the immediate vicinity of the wall γ s falls rapidly from unity, reaches zero at the location where K again falls below 3×10-6 and then rises back to unity. Although γ is practically zero throughout the boundary layer in the vicinity of γ s =0, the turbulence level remains high. The explanation for what appears to be a contradiction is that the turbulent frequencies are too low to induce turbulent mixing. The mean velocity profile changes shape abruptly where K exceeds 3×10-6. Values for the skin friction coefficient, based upon hot-film measurements, peak at the same location as K and fall to a minimum close to the location where K drops back to zero. An anionic polyacrylamide solution was characterized in elongational flow by combining laser-Doppler velocimetry to determine the strain rate in the flow direction and the two-color flow-induced birefringence method to measure the first normal stress difference along the axial centerline of a hyperbolic die. The elongational rate was constant along the axial centerline of the planar hyperbolic die as long as vortices at the die entrance did not occur. The transient elongational viscosity μ + was determined as a function of the elongational rate. The parameters varied are the Hencky strain rate and the polymer concentration. μ + showed a pronounced increase over the linear viscoelastic behavior above critical Hencky strains of 1.2 to 1.5; that is, a significant strain hardening could be observed for polyacrylamide solutions. This strain hardening is stronger the higher the elongational rate. A slight enhancement of strain hardening was found by increasing the concentration from 0.5 to 1 g/l. The stress optical coefficient was determined as 1.8 × 10−7 Pa−1 (0.5 g/l) and 1.2 × 10−7 Pa−1 (1 g/l).
