Based on the expansion of the fundamental mode LP01 in single mode fiber in terms of Laguerre-Gaussian free space modes, the feedback coupling losses for two different types of cavity mirror, i.e., a curvature mirror and a combing mirror of a lens and a plane mirror, are numerically calculated for the first time. The results show that, for the curvature mirror, the lowest coupling loss is obtained when its curvature radius matches the wavefront curvature. In particular, if a plane mirror is used as the cavity mirror, it has to be placed close to the fiber end to obtain the low coupling loss. For the combing mirror, the lowest coupling loss can be obtained when the plane mirror is placed at the back focal plane of the lens, and the variation of the coupling loss is insensitive to the mirror positions for the lens with longer focal length. Finally, the plane mirror and the combing mirror of a lens and a plane mirror are suggested to be the cavity mirror in the practical construction of the high power fiber lasers.  相似文献

We study soliton solutions in supersymmetric scalar field theory with a class of potentials. We study both bosonic and fermionic zero-modes around the soliton solution. We study two possible couplings of gauge fields to these models. While the Born–Infeld like coupling has one normalizable mode (the zero mode), the other kind of coupling has no normalizable modes. We show that quantum mechanical problem which determines the spectrum of fluctuation modes of the scalar, fermion and the gauge field is identical. We also show that only the lowest lying mode, i.e., the zero mode, is normalizable and the rest of the spectrum is continuous.  相似文献

We discuss our recent experiments that aim at the realization of coupling between a nano-emitter that is placed at the extremity of a sharp glass-fiber tip and a high-Q whispering-gallery mode. We quantify the influence of the tip using different probes and modes of a microsphere with different quality factors and mode extensions. Our measurements show that a micron-sized tip results in a substantial perturbation of the modes. On the contrary, by using a tip of diameter about 100 nm it should be possible to couple a nanoparticle to the most-confined modes of a microsphere without spoiling quality factors even as high as 108. 长周期光纤光栅是在光纤纤芯中沿轴向形成折射率周期性调制的带阻型光纤器件。与光纤布拉格光栅不同,它表现为前向传播的纤芯基模与同向传播的各阶次包层模式在特定波长的耦合。研究了纤芯基模、包层模式(HE1t/EH1t)及其有效折射率随波长的变化,研究了纤芯基模与包层模式(HE1t/EH1t)的耦合系数。研究表明,纤芯基模与一阶低次包层模式的有效折射率随波长增大而减小,纤芯基模与HE1t产生的耦合系数远大于与EH1t的耦合系数,并且包层模式次数较低时,耦合系数随次数的升高而增加。这与以前的研究结果有所不同。  相似文献

We obtain the analytical solution to the master equation in the photon number representation by using algebraic dynamical method in the nonautonomous case. Based on the solution we find that a two-mode coherent sate can be produced within dissipative background, and the averaged photon number for each mode is related to the damping constant, external field amplitude and coupling constant between two modes.  相似文献

We numerically investigate the coupling of TE-like modes and TM-like modes in a two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystal (PC) slab composed of truncated cone silicon rods. In such structures, the classification of TE-like modes and TM-like modes is generally impossible and the coupling occurs due to vertical structural asymmetries. The frequency and wavevector dependences of the mode coupling are discussed by investigating the photonic band structures, and the coupling efficiency is studied by examining the transmittance. The results show that the efficiency of mode conversion is strengthened by the vertical asymmetry and weakened by the clear sinall gap. These structures could be used as polarization conversion devices in integrated optics.  相似文献

A two-way integral equation coupled mode method is applied to a continental shelf ocean waveguide proposed for a special session devoted to range-dependent acoustic modeling at the 141st meeting of the Acoustical Society of America. The coupled mode solution includes both sediment trapped and continuum modes. The continuum is approximated by a finite number of leaky modes but neglects the branch cut contribution. Mode coupling matrix elements and the range evolution of the modal amplitudes show the nature of the mode coupling. Transmission loss versus range at 100 Hz predicted by the integral equation approach is compared to the transmission loss predicted by a wide angle parabolic equation method. While there is very good agreement, one observes small differences that can be interpreted as backscattering predicted by the integral equation solution.  相似文献

We study the optical response of strongly coupled metal nanoparticle chains using rigorous multiple scattering calculations. The collective resonant frequency of silver nanosphere chains and the coupling between chains are considered. The coupling between silver nanoparticle chains are understood by the transmission and reflection calculations of 2D periodic arrays of nanospheres. The results are in agreement with recent experiments. The splitting of plasmon resonance modes for different polarizations of the incident light are explored. Our results show that the transverse mode resonant wavelength is very sensitive to the inter-chain distance. Results on the effect of disorder are also presented.  相似文献

The selfoscillatory lasing operating modes of lasers are investigated in the presence of phase coupling between modes. The small-parameter method is used to find the conditions of existence and form of the time-periodic solution in the lowest approximation. Stable periodic solutions correspond to selfoscillatory operating modes; unstable periodic solutions characterize the finite dimensions of the domain of attraction of the stable stationary operating mode and indicate under certain conditions the existence of selfoscillatory operating modes of another type. Resonant drift-wave coupling experiments characterize a new dissipative coupling term caused by a trapping separatrix. The system is a cylindrical pure-electron plasma with an axial trapping separatrix generated by an applied theta-symmetric wall voltage. The resonant decay of m_{theta}=2 diocotron modes into m_{theta}=1 trapped-particle diocotron modes is measured and compared to parametric mode coupling theory. Experiments quantify the traditional nonlinear mode coupling term, plus a new separatrix-generated dissipative coupling term which is not yet characterized theoretically.  相似文献

Within the framework of the electromagnetic theory, the collective modes in the superlattice system composed of superionic conductors and ionic crystals are studied. The superionic conductor is described by the hydrodynamical model in which the anion cage is immersed in the cation liquid. The behavior of the modes are analysed in terms of the coupling strength between excitations pertaining to different layers. The coupling strength is controlled by varying the slab thicknesses. An interesting behavior in which the diffusion mode transforms to the relaxation mode when the coupling strength is varied from strong to weak is obtained. Also, the effect of the coupling strength on the acoustical and optical modes are shown.  相似文献

This work is a theoretical investigation of the stability of the non-linear behavior of an oscillating tip-cantilever system used in dynamic force microscopy. Stability criterions are derived that may help to a better understanding of the instabilities that may appear in the dynamic modes, Tapping and NC-AFM, when the tip is close to a surface. A variational principle allows to get the temporal dependence of the equations of motion of the oscillator as a function of the non-linear coupling term. These equations are the basis for the analysis of the stability. One find that the branch associated to frequencies larger than the resonance is always stable whereas the branch associated to frequencies smaller than the resonance exhibits two stable domains and one unstable. This feature allows to re-interpret the instabilities appearing in Tapping mode and may help to understand the reason why the NC-AFM mode is stable. Received 12 April 2001  相似文献

Features of the mode spectrum of shear magnetoelastic waves circulating along the boundary of a ferromagnetic cylinder are discussed in the nonexchange magnetostatic approximation. Depending on the level of the spin-phonon coupling in the crystal and on the frequency, the lowest order normal mode may be either fast or slow relative to the bulk shear wave in an infinite crystal. It is shown that, unlike the lowest order mode, the higher order modes, which primarily depend on the curvature of the boundary, demonstrate a weak nonreciprocity of propagation in directions with opposite azimuths. Conditions for the slow propagation of the lowest order mode, when it is identified with a surface magnetoelastic wave, are only possible sufficiently far away from the cutoff frequency of the mode spectrum in ferromagnetic cylinders with a strong spin-phonon coupling and a small curvature of the boundary.  相似文献

提出了基于光纤布拉格光栅(FBG)包层模式的折射率传感方案。实验中,利用不同浓度的丙三醇水溶液作为外界折射率传感溶液,采用氢氟酸溶液化学腐蚀的方法来减小光纤包层的直径以增大包层模式对外界折射率的敏感度,研究了腐蚀后光纤布拉格光栅包层模式的耦合波长对外部折射率的变化关系。实验结果表明在1.3300~1.4584的折射率范围内,包层模式耦合波长随外界折射率增大而增大,在接近光纤包层折射率处具有很高的折射率灵敏度,最大达到了172 nm/riu(refractive index unit)。而且,包层模谐振的光谱半峰全宽(约0.07 nm)仅为布拉格纤芯模谐振光谱半峰全宽的1/4,能够获得更好的传感精度。  相似文献

A new derivation for a scattering matrix for reflection and transmission of higher order modes at the planar junction of two waveguides is presented. The derivation is extended to include finite junction wall impedance and offset waveguides. The resulting matrix equations are analyzed and the physical significance of the matrices is explained. As an example of the theory, analytical expressions for the coupling coefficients at a size change in a rectangular duct are developed and the resulting reflection and transmission coefficients are computed. The results should be of interest to the HVAC noise control community. The paper also shows the effects of modal truncation on the accuracy and convergence of the solution. It is shown that the proper selection of the ratio of the number of modes on either side of the discontinuity is related to the ratio of the characteristic sizes of the waveguides. Finally it is shown that at least one higher mode should be included for reasonable accuracy in the computation of plane wave reflection and transmission coefficients except at the very lowest frequencies.  相似文献

Two-pulse and stimulated photon echoes and spectral hole burning were measured on the transition from the lowest component of the 4I15/2 manifold to the lowest component of 4I13/2 of Er3+ in a silicate optical fiber at 1.6 K. The two-pulse echo decays gave decoherence times as long as 230 ns for magnetic fields above 2 T. A large field dependent contribution to the homogeneous line width of >2 MHz was found and interpreted in terms of coupling to magnetic tunneling modes (TLS) in the glass. The stimulated echoes measured at 2 T showed spectral diffusion of 0.8 MHz/decade of time between 0.4 and 500 μs. Spectral diffusion in this high field region is attributed to coupling to elastic TLS modes which have a distribution of flip rates in glasses. Time-resolved spectral hole burning at very low field showed stronger spectral diffusion of 5.7 MHz/decade of time, attributed to coupling to magnetic spin-elastic TLS modes.  相似文献

In this work we report new experimental results on nonlinear excitation of magnetoelastic (ME) modes in layered YIG/GGG waveguide structures at GHz frequencies, obtained by a guided-wave light scattering technique. It is shown that the fundamental spin-dipole wave (SDW) mode induces a secondary microwave field at double frequency that can efficiently excite shear elastic modes of the structure. The distinctive feature of a mechanism for ME coupling proposed is that it is free from the selection rules and provides continuous excitation of elastic modes within a wide frequency range by means of the standard microstripe line excitation system.  相似文献

Dispersion relations for geodesic acoustic modes are derived by using the Grad hydrodynamic equations thereby reconciling long known but not previously explained discrepancy between the results of kinetic and fluid calculations. Extended fluid theory allows a simple analysis of mode polarization and coupling. A new type of electromagnetic modes induced by geodesic compressibility is predicted. These modes are related to Alfvén and geodesic acoustic modes. While a standard geodesic acoustic mode involves poloidally and toroidally symmetric perturbations of electrostatic potential (m=n=0) and the first poloidal side-bands of plasma pressure, new modes involve side-bands of the electrostatic and vector potential as well as pressure perturbations at zeroth and second harmonics. It is shown that there exist two different values of the adiabatic constant depending on the mode polarization. Both standard (electrostatic) geodesic acoustic modes and new electromagnetic modes involve finite perturbations of parallel viscosity, which modify an effective adiabatic (compressibility) index for a toroidal plasma.  相似文献
