An analysis has been carried out to study the effects of thermal-diffusion and diffusion-thermo on non-Darcian mixed convection heat and mass transfer of an incompressible, electrically conducting fluid over a stretching sheet embedded in a porous medium in the presence of an external magnetic field and non-uniform heat source/sink. Similarity transformations are used to convert highly non-linear partial differential equations into ordinary differential equations. Similarity equations are then solved numerically using shooting algorithm with Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg scheme over the entire range of physical parameters. The effects of various physical parameters on the dimensionless velocity, temperature and concentration profiles are depicted graphically. Present results are compared with previously published work on various special cases of the problem and the results are found to be in very good agreement. Numerical results for local skin-friction, local Nusselt number and local Sherwood number are tabulated for different physical parameters. 相似文献

The present study investigates a Casson fluid flow in the presence of free convection of combined heat and mass transfer toward an unsteady permeable stretching sheet with thermal radiation, viscous dissipation and chemical reaction. The governing partial differential equations are reduced to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations and then solved by an efficient Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg method. The dimensionless velocity is decreased by increasing values of the chemical reaction and magnetic parameter while fluid temperature is significantly reduced by increasing values of the Prandtl number. The heat transfer rate is reduced with increasing values of thermal radiation and magnetic parameters. 相似文献

A boundary layer analysis is presented for non-Newtonian fluid flow and heat transfer over a nonlinearly stretching surface. The Casson fluid model is used to characterize the non-Newtonian fluid behavior. By using suitable transformations, the governing partial differential equations corresponding to the momentum and energy equations are converted into non-linear ordinary differential equations. Numerical solutions of these equations are obtained with the shooting method. The effect of increasing Casson parameter is to suppress the velocity field. However the temperature is enhanced with the increasing Casson parameter. 相似文献

The elevated temperature electromagnetic materials production system in chemical engineering requires increasingly more refined theoretical and computational models for describing multiple, simultaneous thermophysical effects. Motivated by this application, the present paper addresses heat and mass transfer in a chemically reacting laminar mixed convection flow from a vertical sheet with inducedmagnetic field. The governing equations of the flow are solved analytically using a perturbation technique. The influences of various established parameters on the flow, induced magnetic field, and heat and mass transfer are studied graphically in the present analysis. Finally, we also obtained expressions for shear stress, current density and Nusselt number, and discussed the results through tables. 相似文献

A numerical study of the boundary layer flow past unsteady stretching surface in nanofluid under the effects of suction and viscous dissipation is investigated. The model used for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis. A similarity solution is presented, which depends on the unsteadiness parameter A, Eckert number Ec, ζ suction or injection parameter, Prandtl number Pr, Lewis number Le, Brownian motion number Nb, and thermophoresis number Nt. The governing partial differential equations were converted to nonlinear ordinary differential equations by using a suitable similarity transformation, which are solved numerically using the Nactsheim-Swigert shooting technique together with Runge-Kutta six-order iteration scheme. The accuracy of the numerical method is tested by performing various comparisons with the previously published work, and the results are found to be in excellent agreement. Numerical results are presented both in tabular and graphical forms illustrating the effects of these parameters on thermal and nanoparticle volume fraction boundary layers. The thermal boundary layer thickens with a rise in the local temperature as the Brownianmotion, thermophoresis, and convective heating each intensify. 相似文献

Heat transfer over a stretching surface with uniform or variable heat flux in micropolar fluids is investigated in this Letter. The boundary layer equations are transformed into ordinary differential equations, and then they are solved numerically by a finite-difference method. The effects of the material parameter K, Prandtl number Pr, velocity exponent parameter m, and heat flux exponent parameter n on the heat transfer characteristics are studied. It is found that the local Nusselt number is higher for micropolar fluids compared to Newtonian fluids. 相似文献

We examine the problem of flow and heat transfer in a second grade fluid over a stretching sheet [K. Vajravelu, T. Roper,
Int. J. Nonlinear Mech. 34, 1031 (1999)]. The equations considered by Vajravelu and Roper [K. Vajravelu, T. Roper, Int. J.
Nonlinear Mech. 34, 1031 (1999)], are found to be incorrect in the literature. In this paper, we not only corrected the equation
but found a useful analytic solution to this important problem. We also extended the problem for hydromagnetic flow and heat
transfer with Hall effect. The explicit analytic homotopy solution for the velocity field and heat transfer are presented.
Graphs for the velocity field, skin friction coefficient, and rate of heat transfer are presented. Tables for the skin friction
coefficient and rate of heat transfer are also presented. The convergence of the solution is also properly checked and discussed. 相似文献

Exact solutions for the flow of Casson fluid over a stretching surface with transpiration and heat transfer effects 下载免费PDF全文
The effects of transpiration on forced convection boundary layer non-Newtonian fluid flow and heat transfer toward a linearly stretching surface are reported. The flow is caused solely by the stretching of the sheet in its own plane with a velocity varying linearly with the distance from a fixed point. The constitutive relationship for the Casson fluid is used. The governing partial differential equations corresponding to the momentum and energy equations are converted into non-linear ordinary differential equations by using similarity transformations.Exact solutions of the resulting ordinary differential equations are obtained. The effect of increasing Casson parameter,i.e.,with decreasing yield stress(the fluid behaves as a Newtonian fluid as the Casson parameter becomes large),is to suppress the velocity field. However, the temperature is enhanced as the Casson parameter increases. It is observed that the effect of transpiration is to decrease the fluid velocity as well as the temperature. The skin-friction coefficient is found to increase as the transpiration parameter increases. 相似文献

The aim of this paper is the investigation of heat transfer regarding the cases of both stretching and shrinking sheets with a sponge-like horizontal wall that allows for mass transpiration. The effects of Prandtl number, radiation and external magnetic field are extensively examined. The Navier-Stokes equations are reduced to partial differential equations, which are eventually become ordinary differential equations and solved analytically. Furthermore, the power-law wall temperature and heat flux boundary conditions are imposed on the boundary layer energy equation for obtaining exact analytical solutions. The results revealed that in both the stretching and shrinking sheet scenarios the thickness of the thermal boundary layer decreases with either increasing of transpiration as well as the Chandrasekhar and Prandtl number numbers or decreasing radiation number. Additionally, the characteristics of the heat transfer regarding a shrinking sheet and those of a stretching sheet are found not to be similar. In fact, a new solution branch appeared which indicates that multiple solutions may emerge under certain circumstances. Finally, by using the present analytical relationships, theoretical guidelines can be given for regulating the procedure. 相似文献

Marangoni effects on forced convection of power-law liquids in a thin film over a stretching surface
The effect of Marangoni convection on the flow and heat transfer within a power-law liquid film on an unsteady stretching sheet is examined. The governing equations are non-dimensionalized using suitable transformation variables and the resulting transformed PDEs are then solved numerically by an implicit finite-difference scheme. Results for the velocity and temperature distributions, the free-surface temperature, and the wall temperature gradient are presented for various values of the unsteadiness parameter S, the power-law index n, the thermo-capillarity number M, and the modified Prandtl number Pr. The velocity and temperature distributions in the film are affected significantly by the thermally-induced Marangoni convection adjacent to the free surface. A fluid with a smaller Pr is more sensitive to the Marangoni effect. For Pr less than a moderate value (e.g., at selected values of n and ξ , Pr?1 for S=0.8 and Pr?10 for S=1.2), the Marangoni effect tends to increase the heat transfer rate; whereas this impact diminishes in the high Pr regime. 相似文献

In this paper, the effects of variable thermal conductivity and radiation on the flow and heat transfer of an electrically conducting micropolar fluid over a continuously stretching surface with varying temperature in the presence of a magnetic field are considered. The surface temperature is assumed to vary as a power-law temperature. The governing conservation equations of mass, momentum, angular momentum and energy are converted into a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations by means of similarity transformation. The resulting system of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations is solved numerically. The numerical results show that the thermal boundary thickness increases as the thermal conductivity parameter S increases, while it decreases as the radiation parameter F increases. Also, it was found that the Nusselt number increases as F increases and decreases as S increases. 相似文献

This article explores the boundary layer flow and heat transfer of a viscous nanofluid bounded by a hyperbolically stretching sheet. Effects of Brownian and thermophoretic diffusions on heat transfer and concentration of nanoparticles are given due attention. The resulting nonlinear problems are computed for analytic and numerical solutions. The effects of Brownian motion and thermophoretic property are found to increase the temperature of the medium and reduce the heat transfer rate. The thermophoretic property thus enriches the concentration while the Brownian motion reduces the concentration of the nanoparticles in the fluid. Opposite effects of these properties are observed on the Sherwood number. 相似文献

A steady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow past a radially stretching or shrinking disk is investigated. The governing partial differential equations are transformed into a set of ordinary (similarity) differential equations by a similarity transformation. These equations along with the corresponding boundary conditions are solved numerically using the boundary value problem solver (bvp4c) in Matlab. The effects of magnetic field and suction on the shear stress and the heat transfer are analyzed and discussed. It is found that both parameters affect more in the shrinking region. The increase in the magnetic parameter results in the increase of the skin friction coefficient but decrease in the local Nusselt number. The skin friction coefficient and the local Nusselt number increase as suction increases. 相似文献

A steady flow and heat transfer of a hybrid nanofluid past a permeable moving surface is investigated. In this study, 0.1 solid volume fraction of alumina (Al2O3) is fixed, then consequently, various solid volume fractions of copper (Cu) are added into the mixture with water as the base fluid to form Cu-Al2O3/water hybrid nanofluid. The similarity equations are obtained by converting the governing equations of the hybrid nanofluid using the technique of similarity transformation. The bvp4c function available in Matlab software is used to solve the similarity equations numerically. The numerical results are obtained for selected parameters and discussed in detail. It is found that hybrid nanofluid enhances the heat transfer rate compared to the regular nanofluid. The results show that two solutions exist up to a certain value of the moving parameter and suction strengths. The critical value in which the solution is in existence decreases as nanoparticle volume fractions increase. The temporal stability analysis is conducted in determining the stability of the dual solutions, and it is revealed that only one of them is stable and physically reliable. 相似文献

The analysis of a viscous fluid flow and heat transfer is carried out under the influence of a constant applied magnetic field over a curved stretching sheet. Heat transfer analysis is carried out for two heating processes, namely, prescribed surface temperature (PST) and prescribed heat flux (PHF). The equations governing the flow are modeled in a curvilinear coordinate system (r, s, z). The nonlinear partial differential equations are then transformed to nonlinear ordinary differential equations by using similarity transformations. The obtained system of equations is solved numerically by a shooting method using Runge-Kutta algorithm. The interest lies in determining the influence of dimensionless radius of curvature on the velocity, temperature, skin friction, and rate of heat transfer at the wall prescribed by the Nusselt number. The effects of Hartmann number are also presented for the fluid properties of interest. 相似文献

The problem of flow and heat transfer of an electrically conducting viscoelastic fluid over a continuously stretching sheet in the presence of a uniform magnetic field is analyzed for the case of power-law variation in the sheet temperature. The fluid viscosity and thermal conductivity are assumed to vary as a function of temperature. The basic equations comprising the balance laws of mass, linear momentum, and energy modified to include the electromagnetic force effect, the viscous dissipation, internal heat generation or absorption and work due to deformation are solved numerically. 相似文献

Effects of variable properties on MHD heat and mass transfer flow near a stagnation point towards a stretching sheet in a porous medium with thermal radiation 下载免费PDF全文
The effect of variable viscosity and thermal conductivity on steady magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) heat and mass transfer flow of viscous and incompressible fluid near a stagnation point towards a permeable stretching sheet embedded in a porous medium are presented, taking into account thermal radiation and internal heat genberation/absorbtion.The stretching velocity and the ambient fluid velocity are assumed to vary linearly with the distance from the stagnation point. The Rosseland approximation is used to describe the radiative heat flux in the energy equation. The governing fundamental equations are first transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations using a scaling group of transformations and are solved numerically by using the fourth-order Rung-Kutta method with the shooting technique.A comparison with previously published work has been carried out and the results are found to be in good agreement. The results are analyzed for the effect of different physical parameters, such as the variable viscosity and thermal conductivity, the ratio of free stream velocity to stretching velocity, the magnetic field, the porosity, the radiation and suction/injection on the flow, and the heat and mass transfer characteristics. The results indicate that the inclusion of variable viscosity and thermal conductivity into the fluids of light and medium molecular weight is able to change the boundary-layer behavior for all values of the velocity ratio parameter λ except for λ = 1.In addition, the imposition of fluid suction increases both the rate of heat and mass transfer, whereas fluid injection shows the opposite effect. 相似文献

This article is intended for investigating the effects of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) and volume fraction of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on the flow and heat transfer in two lateral directions over a stretching sheet. For this purpose, three types of base fluids specifically water, ethylene glycol and engine oil with single and multi-walled carbon nanotubes are used in the analysis. The convective boundary condition in the presence of CNTs is presented first time and not been explored so far. The transformed nonlinear differential equations are solved by the Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg method with a shooting technique. The dimensionless velocity and shear stress are obtained in both directions. The dimensionless heat transfer is determined on the surface. Three different models of thermal conductivity are comparable for both CNTs and it is found that the Xue [1] model gives the best approach to guess the superb thermal conductivity in comparison with the Maxwell [2] and Hamilton and Crosser [3] models. And finally, another finding suggests the engine oil provides the highest skin friction and heat transfer rates. 相似文献
