Summary: Polyisobutylene is an industrially important polymer which is conventionally prepared by polymerization at temperatures below 0 °C. The application of solvent ligated metal complexes associated with weakly coordinating counteranions (WCAs), however, allows the room temperature (30 °C) polymerization of isobutylene resulting in highly reactive polyisobutylene (HR-PIB) containing a high content of terminal double bonds. Recently described complexes include manganese (II), copper(II), molybdenum(III) and zink(II) complexes which were coordinated octahedrally with the boron and alumina based WCAs, each with its own advantages and traits.  相似文献

Thermoregulated phase‐transfer catalysis for the transfer hydrogenation of 2‐octanone in 2‐propanol/H2O biphasic media was achieved with ruthenium‐bearing microgel‐core star polymers with amphiphilic, thermosensitive poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) arms [Ru(II)‐PEG star], which were directly prepared by the ruthenium‐catalyzed living radical polymerization in conjunction with a phosphine ligand‐carrying styrene derivative. The star polymers were first placed in the aqueous (lower) layer at room temperature and immediately moved into the organic (upper) layer at 100 °C, and once again, moved down to the aqueous layer (lower) upon cooling the solution to room temperature. The Ru(II)‐PEG star catalyst was clearly superior to the original Ru(II) catalyst and related non‐microgel catalysts [Ru(II)‐PEG block] in terms of activity and recovery/recycle, due to the unique designer structure of the microgel‐core star polymers. Other substrates (less hydrophobic alkyl ketones and aromatic ketone) were also efficiently hydrogenated into the corresponding sec‐alcohols with the star catalyst in aqueous media. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The oxidative coupling polymerization of 2,3‐dihydroxynaphthalene with the novel dinuclear‐type copper(II) catalysts successfully produced poly(2,3‐dihydroxy‐1,4‐naphthylene). For example, the MeOH‐insoluble polymer with a number average molecular weight of 4.4 × 103 from the polymerization using the complex of CuCl2 and N,N′‐bis(2‐morpholinoethyl)‐p‐xylylenediamine ( p ‐ 1 ) at room temperature under an O2 atmosphere followed by acetylation of the hydroxyl groups was obtained in 63% yield. The structures of the tetraamine ligands and the counter anion of the copper(II) salts significantly influenced the catalyst activity. The polymerization of 2,2′‐dimethoxy‐1,1′‐binaphthalene‐3,3′‐diol with the 2CuCl2p ‐ 1 catalyst, however, resulted in a lower yield. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Random and block sulfonated poly(meta‐phenylene isopthalamide)s as proton exchange membranes were synthesized through the Higashi‐Yamazaki phosphorylation method. Polymers with different degrees of sulfonation from 40 to 100 mol percent were prepared by adjusting the molar feed ratio of 5‐sulfoisophthalic acid sodium salt (SIPA) and isophthalic acid (IPA) in the reaction with meta‐phenylene diamine. Creasable polymer films were obtained by casting DMSO polymer solutions and the membrane films could be exchanged to the proton form in strong acid. 1H NMR spectroscopy and titration confirmed the degree of sulfonation. Thermogravimetric analysis demonstrated good thermal stabilities with 5% weight loss greater than 380 °C. The copolymers with low degrees of sulfonation (DS = 40 mol %) exhibited low water uptake (water uptake < 17 wt %) at room temperature. A segmented multiblock copolymer prepared by preforming a sulfonated block showed lower water uptake at high temperatures than the random polymer with the same DS of 40 mol % and displayed stability in water up to 80 °C. Both random and block copolymers showed higher proton conductivities at high temperature than that of Nafion‐117 under 95% relative humidity. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Hetero‐bimetallic Fe(II) alkoxide/aryloxides were evaluated as initiators for the ring‐opening polymerization of rac‐lactide. [(THF)NaFe(OtBu)3]2 ( 1 ) and [(THF)4Na2Fe(2,6‐diisopropylphenolate)4] ( 2 ) (THF = tetrahydrofuran) both polymerized lactide efficiently at room temperature, with complex 1 affording better control over the molecular weight parameters of the resultant polymer. At conversions below 70%, a linear increase in molecular weight with conversion was observed, indicative of a well‐controlled polymerization process. Complex 2 is the first example of a dianionic Fe(II) alkoxide and has been structurally characterized to reveal a distorted square planar FeO4 array in which both Na counterions bridge two aryloxide ligands and are further complexed by two THF ligands. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New, water soluble poly(glycidol) (PGl) macroinitiators for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) were synthesized. This new class of macroinitiators were prepared in a three‐step process. First, series of well‐defined ω‐hydroxyl functional poly(glycidol acetal)s with different molecular weights was synthesized via anionic polymerization followed by quantitative termination of anionically growing active sites. End capping was achieved by treatment of living chain ends with water. The living nature of the system and termination reaction is discussed. In the second stage, monofunctional poly(glycidol acetal)s were functionalized by esterification with 2‐chloropropionyl chloride. Finally, selective deprotection (hydrolysis) of acetal protective groups was performed. As simultaneous partial cleavage of ester bond of attached ATRP moieties was unavoidable, the final functionality of macroinitiator calculated from 1H NMR varied in the range 85–95%. The obtained (2‐chloropropionyl) poly(glycidol) macroinitiator with DP = 55 and 90% functionality was successfully used in ATRP polymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) at room temperature in the DMF/water mixture. Linear block copolymers with relatively narrow molecular weight distribution and controlled composition were obtained and characterized with 1H NMR and SEC‐MALLS measurements. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Isobornyl methacrylate (IBMA), a bulky hydrophobic methacrylate, undergoes very fast polymerization, in bulk, with Cu(I)Br/N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA)/ethyl‐2‐bromoisobutyrate system, at ambient temperature. IBMA also undergoes a spontaneous initiator‐free polymerization, at ambient temperature, with Cu(I)Br/PMDETA catalytic system in dimethyl sulfoxide–water mixtures. The rate of the polymerization is seen to increase with the water content up to 80 mol % of water. A possible intervention of air in initiation is proposed. The active Cu(0) formed by the disproportionation of Cu(I) species in aqueous medium probably plays a vital role for a possible air‐initiation of IBMA via single electron transfer‐living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) mechanism. A high tolerance level to water under SET‐LRP conditions is demonstrated. The poly(IBMA) samples obtained exhibit low molecular weight distributions (1.1–1.3). Similar behavior was not observed with other common methacrylates such as methyl methacrylate, t‐butyl methacrylate, cyclohexyl methacrylate, and benzyl methacrylate. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cobalt(II) perfluorooctanoate‐catalyzed atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and reverse ATRP were developed to prepare oligostyrenes (Mn < 2500) with low polydispersities Mw/Mn < 1.5. Fluorous biphase catalysis was applied for effective recycling of catalyst and fluorous solvent. The homogeneous polymerization reaction was performed at 90 °C in toluene/cyclohexane/perfluorodecalin mixture (1:1:1) and fluorine‐free solvents. Temperature‐induced phase separation of this fluorous solvent mixture occurred at room temperature and proved to be the key for the very effective separation of the cobalt(II) perfluorooctanoate from the oligostyrene and fluorine‐free solvents. Both the fluorine‐tagged cobalt catalysts and the fluorous media were recycled and reused up to three times without encountering catalyst activity losses. The roles of cobalt catalysts, fluorous media, and monomer/initiator ratio were examined with respect to the polymerization kinetics. Fluorine‐containing and fluorine‐free cobalt(II) octanoate catalyzed controlled styrene oligomerization according to the ATRP mechanism. The molar mass control range was limited in fluorous biphase catalysis most likely because of precipitation of high molar mass polystyrenes in the fluorous reaction medium. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time temperature‐induced phase separation of fluorous and fluorine‐free solvents has been successfully applied to polymerization processing. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The first synthesis of poly(urethane urea) by in situ polymerization inside stone was successfully carried out. Poly(propylene glycol), isophorondiisocyanate, and a catalyst [tin(II) ethyl hexanoate, aluminum acetylacetonate, or zirconium acetylacetonate] were mixed with acetone in petri dishes, and tuff samples were placed in the dishes at room temperature. The effects of the comonomer ratio, catalyst, and catalyst concentration on the chemical structure of the synthesized poly(urethane urea) were investigated. The poly(urethane urea) distribution inside the tuff and the related morphology were also analyzed, as well as the reversibility of the performed treatments. Finally, the effects of the in situ polymerization polymer on the properties of the stone, such as water capillary absorption and permeability to water vapor, were assessed. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel highly phosphonated poly(N‐phenylacrylamide) ( PDPAA ) with an ion‐exchange capacity (IEC) of 6.72 mequiv/g was synthesized by the radical polymerization of N‐[2,4‐bis(diethoxyphosphinoyl)phenyl]acrylamide ( DEPAA ), followed by the hydrolysis with trimethylsilyl bromide. Then, the crosslinked PDPAA membrane was successfully prepared by the electrophilic substitution reaction between the aromatic rings of PDPAA and the carbocation formed from hexamethoxymethylmelamine (CYMEL) as a crosslinker in the presence of methanesulfonic acid. The crosslinked PDPAA membrane had high oxidative stability against Fenton's reagent at room temperature. The proton conductivity of the crosslinked PDPAA membrane was 8.8 × 10?2 S/cm at 95% relative humidity (RH) and 80 °C, which was comparable to Nafion 112. Under low RH, the crosslinked PDPAA membrane showed the proton conductivity of 1.9 × 10?3 and 4.7 × 10?5 S/cm at 50 and 30% RH, respectively. The proton conductivity of the crosslinked PDPAA membrane lied in the highest class among the reported phosphonated polymers, and, consequently, the very high local concentration of the acids of PDPAA (IEC = 6.72 mequiv/g) achieved high and effective proton conduction under high RH. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyacrylamide prepared by dispersion (precipitation) polymerization in an aqueous t‐butyl alcohol (TBA) medium is only partially soluble when the TBA concentrations in the polymerization media are in the range 82 vol % < TBA < 95 vol %. Independent experiments with a soluble (linear) sample of polyacrylamide show that the polymer swells sufficiently in the aforementioned media to lower the glass‐transition temperature of the polymer below the polymerization temperature (50 °C). The anomalous solubility has been attributed to the crosslinking of polymer chains that occurs during the solid‐phase polymerization of acrylamide in the swollen polymer particles. It is postulated that some of the radical centers shift from the chain end to the chain backbone during solid‐phase polymerization by chain transfer to neighboring polymer molecules, and when pairs of such radicals come into close vicinity, crosslinking occurs. However, dispersion (precipitation) polymerization in other media such as aqueous methanol and aqueous acetone yields polymers that are soluble. This result has been attributed to the fact that the polymer radical undergoes a chain‐transfer reaction with these solvents at a much faster rate than with TBA, which overcomes the effect of the polymer‐transfer reaction. Even the addition of as little as 5% methanol to a TBA–water mixture (TBA:water = 85:10) gives rise to a soluble polymer. The chain‐transfer constants for acetone, methanol, and TBA have been determined to be 9.0 × 10?6, 6.9 × 10?6, and 1.48 × 10?6, respectively, at 50 °C. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. We demonstrate the living radical polymerization of tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA) applying the SET mechanism, employing methyl 2‐bromopropionate (MBP) as initiator in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) at ambient temperature. It is observed that introducing copper bromide into the catalyst system is necessary for controlling on the SET‐LRP polymerization of tBA. In this work, we make major investigation for the effect of the different stoichiometry quantity of copper bromide on the polymerization. Experiments show that the polymerization achieves better control with increasing the stoichiometry quantity of copper(II) deactivator. The structural analysis of the resulting polymers by 1H NMR demonstrates the successful synthesis of poly(tBA)s by SET‐LRP in DMSO. Moreover, this work is helpful to the SET‐LRP of other monomers and is expected to expand the application of SET‐LRP. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Frontal polymerization is a process in which a localized reaction zone propagates through a monomer reactant mixture, leaving a polymer product in its wake, and is the result of the coupling of the thermal transport and Arrhenius dependence of the exothermic polymerization. Under most conditions, a planar front is stable. However, for multifunctional acrylates at room temperature, fronts may propagate in a helical fashion along the axis of the reactor. This front propagation is typical of what is called a spin mode, in which the subsequent polymer sample has alternating spiral patterns of low and high monomer conversion evident on the sample surface. For the first time, we demonstrate that magnetic resonance imaging on a submillimeter scale can be used to show that the spiral patterns are not restricted to the sample surface but are distributed throughout the volume. Samples were soaked in water, and the transverse proton relaxation times were imaged. The results suggest proton mobility is smaller in the high‐conversion region in which the hot spot propagated than in the low‐conversion region. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of glycolide was studied in melt conditions and in the presence of two different initiators: 1‐dodecanol and 1,4‐butanediol and tin(II) 2‐ethylhexanoate as catalyst. Its subsequent polymerization provided poly(glycolic acid) with controlled molar masses ranging from 2000 to 42,000 g/mol with well‐defined structures characterized by NMR. Their thermal properties were evaluated by DSC analysis, and a glass transition temperature at infinite molar mass (Tg∞) of 44.8 °C was thus calculated. From rheological data, the critical molar mass for entanglement, Mc, was estimated to be near 11,000 g/mol. Furthermore, in situ polymerizations were also performed between the plates of the rheometer within a same temperature range from 210 to 235 °C. The variation of the storage and loss moduli during the polymerization step have been monitored by time sweep oscillatory experiments under an angular frequency ω = 10 rad/s. Finally, the development of an inverse rheological method allowed to calculate the bulk polymerization kinetics in the temperature range 200–230 °C. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyesters and poly(ester carbonates) were synthesized via ring‐opening polymerization with new tin(II) macroinitiator adducts containing oligomeric L ‐lactide (LLA), rac‐lactide (rac‐LA), and ?‐caprolactone (CL). The novel initiating species were synthesized by the reaction of LLA, rac‐LA, or CL with Sn(OEt)2 (monomer concentration/initiator concentration ≤20) and then were dissolved in methylene chloride or toluene and stored in a stoppered flask for the subsequent ring‐opening polymerization of cyclic esters and carbonates. The soluble tin alkoxide macroinitiators yielded predictable and quantitative initiation of polymerization for up to 1 month of storage time at room temperature. The resulting polymers displayed low polydispersity (≤1.5), and a high monomer conversion (>95%) was obtained within relatively short polymerization times (≤2 h). Adjusting the monomer/macroinitiator ratio effectively controlled the molecular weights of the polymers. NMR was used to characterize the initiating species and polymer microstructure, and size exclusion chromatography was used to determine the molecular weight properties of the polymers. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The growth and degradation of poly(glycolic acid) (PGA) and poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) brushes were compared. Using tin (octanoate) as the catalyst, optimal conditions were found for growth of each polyester brush from the hydroxy‐terminated silicon surface via ring‐opening polymerization. PCL brushes grew thicker at elevated temperatures but the thickest PGA brushes grew at room temperature. Unlike bulk polyesters that can degrade under both acidic and basic conditions, the confined surface polyester brushes only degraded under neutral or basic conditions. The degradation mechanism of grafted polyester brushes was probed through a blocking test. It was shown that the terminal hydroxy groups of these polyester brushes were essential to the degradation process indicating a preferential backbiting mechanism. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. In this study, we reported the synthesis of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) via living radical polymerization in N, N‐dimethylformamide using carbon tetrachloride as initiator, copper(II) chloride (CuCl2)/hexamethylenetetramine as catalyst system, and 2,2‐azobisisobutyronitrile as a high concentration of thermal radical initiator. The polymerization proceeded in controlled/living manner as indicated by first‐order kinetics of the polymerization with respect to the monomer concentration, linear increase of the molecular weight with monomer conversion and narrow polydispersity. Higher polymerization rate and narrower molecular weight distributions were observed with CuCl2 less than 50 ppm. The rate of polymerization showed a trend of increase along with temperature. The modified PAN containing amidoxime group was used for extraction of Ag(I) ions from aqueous solutions. The adsorption kinetics data indicated that the adsorption process followed pseudo‐second‐order rate model. The isotherm adsorption process could be described by the Freundlich isotherm model. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2013  相似文献

We have successfully demonstrated the preparation of poly(n‐butyl acrylate)‐b‐polystyrene particles without any coagulation by two‐step emulsifier‐free, organotellurium‐mediated living radical emulsion polymerization (emulsion TERP) using poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA)–methyltellanyl (TeMe) (PMAA30‐TeMe) (degree of polymerization of PMAA, 30) and 4,4′‐azobis(4‐cyanovaleric acid) (V‐501). The final particle size was ~30 nm and second particle nucleation was not observed throughout the polymerization. Mn increased linearly in both steps with conversion and blocking efficiency was ~75%. PDI was improved by increasing radical entry frequency into each polymer particle due to an increase of the polymerization temperature. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel triarylamine‐based coordination‐saturated aryl Pd(II) halide complexes ligated by PEt3, PCy3, and P(o‐tol)3 were successfully synthesized by direct oxidative addition of aryl halide to the corresponding Pd(0) precursors. Suzuki–Miyaura coupling polymerization of 2‐(7‐halide‐9,9‐dioctylfluoren‐2‐yl)?1,3,2‐dioxaborinane with these Pd(II) complexes as initiators was investigated for the synthesis of poly(fluorene)s with triarylamine end group. Pd(II) complexes with PCy3 or P(o‐tol)3 exhibited catalytic activity and realized the catalyst‐transfer polycondensation at 75 °C and room temperature, respectively, while the polymerization using Pd(II) catalyst ligated by PEt3 did not proceed, which indicated that the bulky phosphine ligands could facilitate the reductive elimination and further promote the polymerization. In addition, the dimeric Pd(II) complex with P(o‐tol)3 can convert into monomeric Pd(II) intermediate with an open coordination site, which had a higher activity. The end groups of the afforded polyfluorene were analyzed by matrix‐assisted laser desorption ionization time‐of‐flight (MALDI‐TOF) mass spectrometry, in which the Ar/H end groups are indicative of the catalyst‐transfer polymerization. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Graft polymerization initiated by diperiodatocuprate(III) complex (Cu(III)) initiator was found to be an effective and convenient method for graft polymerization of vinyl monomers onto macroporous polyacrylamide gels, the so‐called cryogels (pAAm‐cryogels). The effect of time, temperature, monomer and initiator concentration during the graft polymerization in aqueous and aqueous‐organic media was studied. The graft polymerization of water‐soluble monomers as [2‐(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]‐trimethylammonium chloride, 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate, N‐isopropylacrylamide, and N,N‐dimethylacrylamide proceeds with higher grafting yield in aqueous medium, as compared with that in aqueous‐organic media. Graft polymerization in aqueous‐organic media such as water–DMSO solutions allows grafting of water‐insoluble monomers such as glycidyl methacrylate and Ntert‐butylacrylamide with high grafting degrees of 100 and 410%, respectively. It was found that the deposition of initiator on the pore surface of cryogels promoted graft polymerization by facilitating the formation of the redox couple Cu(III)‐acrylamide group. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
