Invariant single-particle cross sections for pion and proton production in π±p interactions at 8 and 16 GeV/c are presented in terms of integrated distributions as functions of x, reduced rapidity ζ and p2, and also in terms of double differential cross sections E d2σ/(dx dp2) and dζ dp2). A comparison of π± and π? induced reactions is made and the energy dependence is discussed. It is shown that the single-particle structure function cannot be factorized in its dependece on transverse and longitudinal momentum. For the beam-unlike pion, there is an indication for factorizability in terms of rapidity and transverse momentum in a small central region.  相似文献

Unitary bounds on (dσ/dt) for π?p charge-exchange reactions in terms of the π?p elastic amplitudes are obtained. No assumptions have been made regarding the spin and helicity structure of the problem. Computation of the bounds at various energies reveal the severe restrictions unitarity places on a rapid rise of the spin-flip amplitude at near-forward angles. The near saturation of the bounds at some angles suggests that such bounds are of potential use in restricting the choice of elastic amplitudes fitting a given set of elastic observables.  相似文献

(π?p → π?p)el, π?p → π?π+n and π?p → π?πop reactions at pπ? = 4.45 GeV/c were studied in a 50 cm hydrogen bubble chamber. Cross sections σtot and dσ/dt were measured for these reactions and also for the ?o, fo and ?? resonances. The elastic π?π+ and π?πo scattering cross sections were calculated by the Chew-Low extrapolation method and with the pseudoperipheric approximation.  相似文献

Data on azimuthal correlations and their rapidity dependence are presented in inclusive and semi-inclusive reactions π?p → π+π+X,→ π?π?X and π+π?X at 40 GeV/c. They show a long range as well as a short range effect. The short range effect, leading to different behaviour of dN/dφ near φ = 0 of like and unlike pion pairs is explained by identical and unidentical particle statistics. The predictions of the independent cluster model for the azimuthal asymmetry are in qualitative agreement with data of this experiment as well as those at 102 and 205 GeV/c.  相似文献

The results on the impact parameter for the reactions π?p→pπ+π?π?, pK+K?π?, with a fast secondary forward proton are given at 9 and 12 GeV/c. For the reaction π?p→pπ+π?π? our results corresponding to the small |u| region (|u| < 1 GeV2) are compared to the existing data for the small |t| region. We show that small |u| events are more central than small |t| events.  相似文献

The reaction K?p→K?K?K+p is shown to have properties similar to those of the diffractive reaction K?p→K?π?π+p. This is true, at least in first approximation, for (a) the energy dependence of the cross sections, (b) the shape of the three meson spectra and (c) the differential cross sections dσ/dtpp which have the same slope for the same mass of the three-meson system. Furthermore, the partial-wave composition of the (KKK) system is similar to that of the (Kππ) system, both systems being produced mostly in unnatural spin-parity states by natural parity exchange. In the KKK system, the JP = 1+ state with S-wave decay into Kø(1020) is dominant, (72 ± 11) % of all events with (KKK) masses below 2 GeV.  相似文献

Data from a high-statistics bubble chamber experiment at 24 GeV/c are used to study the double diffraction dissociation reaction pp→(pπ+π?) (pπ+π?) where both protons of the initial state dissociate into pπ+π? systems. Cross section, mass spectra and dσ/dt' distributions have been determined and are compared with the results found for the single diffraction dissociation reaction pp → p(pπ+π?), which have been obtained from the same experiment. All our findings agree well with what is expected from the factorization hypothesis.  相似文献

A high-statistics search for resonances in the π?p total cross section has been carried out over the incident momentum region from 2 to 14 GeV/c. The measurements were performed with a transmission technique using multiwire proportional chambers in place of the conventional counter arrays. A microprocessor unit was used for the on-line analysis of the data, allowing a total of ≈ 50 000 events to be examined in a 300 ms burst. The search aimed at detecting the possible formation in π?p collisions of narrow non-strange baryon resonances. The momentum region was uniformly scanned with a total of ≈4500 mmeasurements in fixed fractional momentum steps of dP/P = 5 × 10?4. The relative statistical precision of each measurement was dσ/σ = ±0.3%. Within these limits no significant structure was detected.  相似文献

Results on the reaction ep→e′nπ+ are presented in the mass range 1.355 ?W ?1.775 GeV at q2=1GeV2 and in the range 1.415 ? W ? 1.595 GeV at q2=0.6 GeV2. We present results on photoproduction of ?0 and ω in the reactions γp→π+π?p and γp→π+π?π0p by tagged photons in the energy ranges 20 to 70 GeV and 20 to 45 GeV, respectively. The production of the ?0 shows dominantly the characteristics of a diffractive process with respect to the Eγ and t dependence of the cross section and the spin density matrix. The ?0 photoproduction yields on average over the photon energy range a total cross section of σ(γp→?0p) = 9.4±0.1 μb with an additional systematic error of ±1 μb, and average slope parameters of the t distribution dσ/dt≈exp(?b|t| + ct2), of b=9.1±0.1 GeV?2 and c = 3.1 ±±0.2 GeV?4. The shape of the ?0 peak in the π+π? invariant spectra shows a skewing similar to that observed at lower energies. The photoproduction of ω is also consistent with a diffractive process and has a cross section of σ(γp→ωp) = 1.2± 0.1 μb with an additional systematic error of ±0.2 μb. The average slope parameters of the t distribution are b=8.3 ± 1.3 GeV?2 and c = 3.4±2.6 GeV?4.  相似文献

We present final results of a sensitive search for new particles in π±K? effective mass spectra observed in proton-nucleus collisions at 400 GeV/c. We establish a limit for D0 (1.865) production Bπ+π? dσ/dy < 360 nb/nucleon at ycm ?0.4. For D?0 → π?K+ the limit is 290 nb/nucleon.  相似文献

The reactions π?p → p π? and π?p → p?? (??π?π0) at 10 GeV/c with the proton in the forward direction in the c.m.s. are discussed on the basis of 953 elastic scattering events and 2240 events of the reaction π?p → pπ?π0. The total backward cross sections are 0.52±0.10 and 1.52±0.28 μb, respectively. In both cases the production mechanism is compatible with the dominance of the baryonic Δδ Regge trajectory exchange. The ?? decay angular distributions are studied in the u-channel helicity frame and the spin density matrix elements are presented as functions of u.  相似文献

The differential cross section dσdt′ for the charge-exchange process π+p → π0 (π+p) at 8, 16 and 23 GeV/c is presented for several regions of the π+p effective mass. It is found that the dip at t′ ≈ 0.6 (GeV/c)2 which is observed in the Δ(1236) mass band becomes a less pronounced structure in the higher mass regions. However, while the slope of the dσdt′ distributions in the near-forward direction decreases strongly with increasing π+p mass, there is no evidence that the observed structure moves to higher values of t′ as the π+p mass increases. These results are consistent with a Regge-exchange picture where the position of the dip is determined by the exchanged trajectory, but are inconsistent with a simple geometrical picture.  相似文献

The reaction pp → nucleon + nucleon + pion at 12 and 24 GeV/c is analyzed in terms of the isospin amplitudes for the production of the () system. The energy dependence of the I(Nπ) = 12 amplitude is weak, while the I(Nπ) = 32 contribution shows the strong energy dependence known from meson exchange reactions. The slope parameter B of the dσ/dt′ distributions of the I(Nπ)=12 contribution is a strong function of the () mass, decreasing sharply from about 12 GeV?2 at threshold to about 4 GeV?2 above 1700 MeV. Comparing our results for the I(Nπ) = 12 cross section with those of similar investigations in πp and Kp reactions, we find that factorisation is valid within experimental errors. The results support the conclusion that the I(Nπ) = 12 contribution is dominated by diffraction dissociation of the proton.  相似文献

Using extrapolated π+π? moments from amplitude analysis of the 17 GeV/c CERN-Munich experiment on π?p → π+π?n we attempt to reduce phase-shift ambiguities by imposing fixed-t and fixed-u analyticity. Our solution agrees qualitatively with semi-local duality. We also perform a phase-shift analysis by constraining the result to be compatible with the fixed-t (?u) amplitudes. A smooth phase-shift solution is obtained by showing a clear ?′ signal.  相似文献

Measurements have been made of relative production cross sections of the Jψ by π±, K±, p and p? at 39.5 GeV/c incident on copper. Jψ production rates from π?, K? and p? are similar. The Jψ relative particle/anti-particle production cross sections for x>0 are σ(π+)σ(π?)=(0.87±0.14), σ(K+)/σ(K?)=(0.85±0.5) and σ(p)σ(p?)=(0.15 ±0.08). The small p/p? cross section ratio disagrees with models of J/ψ production by gluon amalgamation.  相似文献

The reactionse + de' + pS + p + π?ande + de' + nS + n + π+ were measured detecting electron and pion in coincidence at an invariant hadronic mass of 2.19 GeV. The measurements were performed at electron four-momentum transfer squared of f2 = 0.70 and 1.35 GeV2 in the range of t = (γv?π)2 between tminand ?1.0 GeV2. Recent data on the reaction pp → π?π+ show four conspicuous dips in the angular distribution at fixed values of ν = t?u. The conjecture is made that the channel π?π+π?π+ has zeros at the same ν values. Using data of the CERN-Munich group, one can follow the zeros through the whole Mandelstam plane. The zeros pass through the intersections of s and t channel poles, as the Veneziano model predicts; however, away from these intersections, they propagate in a fashion systematically quite different from Veneziano's ansatz.  相似文献

The (π?, π?n) and the (π+, π+p) reactions were studied on C, Fe, and Bi at 165 MeV by coincidence measurement o outgoing particles. The nucleon-knockout reaction is the dominant inelastic process at backward pion-scattering angles at this energy. The quasifree (π?, π?n) and (π+, π+p) cross sections were determined from the π-N an correlations. Their σqf(π?, π?n)/σqf(π+, π+p) ratio is consistent with unity for C and is larger than the N/Z ratio for the heavier nuclei.  相似文献
