The anionic polymerization behaviors of ethynylstyrene derivatives containing isomeric pyridine moieties, 2‐(2‐(4‐vinylphenyl)ethynyl)pyridine ( A ), 3‐(2‐(4‐vinylphenyl)ethynyl)pyridine ( B ), and 4‐(2‐(4‐vinylphenyl)ethynyl)pyridine ( C ), were investigated in the identical conditions. The anionic polymerization of A – C was performed with (diphenylmethyl)potassium (Ph2CHK) in tetrahydrofuran (THF) at ?78 °C. The polymerization of A proceeded quantitatively at –78 °C for 4 h, and the resulting poly( A ) possessed predictable molecular weights (Mn = 3300–68,500) and narrow molecular weight distributions (MWDs) (Mw/Mn = 1.04–1.11). In contrast, the anionic polymerization of B was not performed at –78 °C for 4 h due to the occurrence of side reactions. The monomer B was quantitatively recovered after the reaction. In the polymerization of C performed at –78 °C for 6 h, observed Mn values of the resulting poly( C ) were in good agreement with calculated molecular weights based on monomer to initiator ratios, but the MWDs were somewhat broad (Mw/Mn = 1.23–1.31). To estimate the reactivity of A and to characterize its living nature, the block copolymerization of A with 2‐vinylpyridine (2VP) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) was performed. The well‐defined block copolymers, poly(2VP)‐b‐poly( A ) and poly( A )‐b‐poly(MMA), were successfully synthesized without any additives. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The nonionic amphiphilic brush polymers such as poly[poly(ethylene oxide) methyl ether vinylphenyl‐co‐styrene] trithiocarbonate [P(mPEGV‐co‐St)‐TTC] and poly[poly(ethylene oxide) methyl ether vinylphenyl‐b‐styrene‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide) methyl ether vinylphenyl] trithiocarbonate [P(mPEGV‐b‐St‐b‐mPEGV)‐TTC] with different monomer sequence and chemical composition are synthesized and their application as macro‐RAFT agent in the emulsion RAFT polymerization of styrene is explored. It is found that the monomer sequence in the brush polymers exerts great influence on the emulsion RAFT polymerization kinetics, and the fast polymerization with short induction period in the presence of P(mPEGV‐co‐St)‐TTC is demonstrated. Besides, the chemical composition in the brush polymer macro‐RAFT agent effect on the emulsion RAFT polymerization is investigated, and the macro‐RAFT agent with high percent of the hydrophobic PS segment leads to fast and well controlled polymerization. The growth of triblock copolymer colloids in the emulsion polymerization is checked, and it reveals that the colloidal morphology is ascribed to the hydrophobic PS block extension, and the P(mPEGV‐co‐St) block almost have no influence just on the size of the colloids. This may be the first example to study the monomer sequence and the chemical composition in the macro‐RAFT agent on emulsion RAFT polymerization, and will be useful to reveal the block copolymer particle growth. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The anionic polymerization of derivatives of 4‐phenyl‐1‐buten‐3‐yne was carried out to investigate the effect of substituents on the polymerization behavior. The polymerization of 4‐(4‐fluorophenyl)‐1‐buten‐3‐yne and 4‐(2‐fluorophenyl)‐1‐buten‐3‐yne in tetrahydrofuran at −78 °C with n‐BuLi/sparteine as an initiator gave polymers consisting of 1,2‐ and 1,4‐polymerized units in quantitative yields with ratios of 80/20 and 88/12, respectively. The molecular weights of the polymers were controlled by the ratio of the monomers to n‐BuLi, and the distribution was relatively narrow (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight < 1.2), supporting the living nature of the polymerization. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. We report on the synthesis of poly[(sodium sulfamate/carboxylate) isoprene‐b‐2‐vinyl pyridine] block polyampholytes (SCPI‐P2VP), utilizing anionic polymerization and post polymerization functionalization reactions. The precursor poly(isoprene‐b‐(2‐vinylpyridine)) diblock copolymers (PI‐P2VP), containing a polyisoprene (PI) block with high 1,4 microstructure, were prepared by anionic polymerization high vacuum techniques, in two steps, involving change of the polymerization solvent. Subsequent functionalization of the PI block with chlorosulfonyl isocyanate, introduced sulfamate and carboxylate groups in the polymer chains and produced the desired block polyampholytes. The successful synthesis of the polyampolytes was corroborated by elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy measurements. The self‐assembly behaviour of the aforementioned polyampholytes was studied in aqueous solutions as a function of pH, by aid of dynamic and static light scattering, zeta potential, fluorescence spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy. Experimental results indicate that the block polyampholytes form micellar structures with P2VP cores and SCPI coronas at pH > 6, whereas more compact nanoparticles are formed at pH < 4 from the complexation of positively charged P2VP and SCPI, stabilized by excess negative charges of uncomplexed SCI segments. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Synthesis of the polymer whose end is functionalized by fac‐Ir(ppy)3 (ppy = 2‐phenylpyridyl) was achieved by using (living) anionic polymerization of 1,3‐cyclohexadiene: the reaction of poly(1,3‐cyclohexadienyl)lithium (PCHDLi) with fac‐Ir(ppy)2(vppy) [vppy = 2‐(4‐vinylphenyl)pyridyl] resulted in nucleophilic attack of the carbanion in PCHDLi on the vinyl group of fac‐Ir(ppy)2(vppy) selectively. Complexation of the pyridyl ring protected the α‐carbons of fac‐Ir(ppy)2(vppy) from the reaction of the anionic polymer. The homopolymerization of fac‐Ir(ppy)2(vppy) did not occur, and only one molecule of fac‐Ir(ppy)2(vppy) reacted with the carbanion of PCHDLi and was selectively incorporated into an end of poly(1,3‐cyclohexadiene) (PCHD). Thus, the PCHD with fac‐Ir(ppy)3 end‐group was obtained with a well‐controlled and defined polymer structure and molecular weight. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The anionic polymerization behavior of 2‐methyl‐4‐phenyl‐1‐buten‐3‐yne (2) was investigated to get information on the effect of substituent at the 2‐position. The polymerization of 2 did not proceed in tetrahydrofuran at –78°C by lithium initiators, while sodium initiators can conduct the polymerization smoothly to give polymers consisting of a specific 1,2‐polymerized unit. The living nature of the polymerization of 2 by diphenylmethylsodium was supported by the post‐polymerization experiment.  相似文献

A well‐defined amphiphilic coil‐rod block copolymer, poly(2‐vinyl pyridine)‐b‐poly(n‐hexyl isocyanate) (P2VP‐b‐PHIC), was synthesized with quantitative yields by anionic polymerization. A low reactive one‐directional initiator, potassium diphenyl methane (DPM‐K), was very effective in polymerizing 2‐vinyl pyridine (2VP) without side reactions, leading to perfect control over molecular weight and molecular weight distribution over a broad range of initiator and monomer concentration. Copolymerization of 2VP with n‐hexyl isocyanate (HIC) was carried out in the presence of sodium tetraphenyl borate (NaBPh4) to prevent backbiting reactions during isocyanate polymerization. Terminating the living end with a suitable end‐capping agent resulted in a P2VP‐b‐PHIC coil‐rod block copolymer with controlled molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution. Cast film from a chloroform solution of P2VP‐b‐PHIC displayed microphase separation, characteristic of coil‐rod block copolymers. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The successful synthesis, characterization, and directed self‐assembly of a silicon‐containing block copolymer, poly(styrene‐block‐trimethylsilylisoprene) (P(S‐b‐TMSI)), which has much higher oxygen etch contrast than the de facto standard, poly(styrene‐block‐methyl methacrylate) is reported. A Sakurai, Grignard‐type coupling reaction provided the key monomer in good yield. Living anionic polymerization was employed to prepare the block copolymer, which has very low polydispersity. P(S‐b‐TMSI) was successfully ordered and oriented by directed self‐assembly. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2013  相似文献

The block copolymer poly(ethylene oxide)‐b‐poly(4‐vinylpyridine) was synthesized by a combination of living anionic ring‐opening polymerization and a controllable radical mechanism. The poly(ethylene oxide) prepolymer with the 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidinyl‐1‐oxy end group (PEOT) was first obtained by anionic ring‐opening polymerization of ethylene oxide with sodium 4‐oxy‐2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidinyl‐1‐oxy as the initiator in a homogeneous process. In the polymerization UV and electron spin resonance spectroscopy determined the 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidinyl‐1‐oxy moiety was left intact. The copolymers were then obtained by radical polymerization of 4‐vinylpyridine in the presence of PEOT. The polymerization showed a controllable radical mechanism. The desired block copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography, Fourier transform infrared, and NMR spectroscopy in detail. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The living anionic polymerization of n‐hexyl isocyanate (HIC) using a newly developed initiator forming metal–enolate complex, sodium deoxybenzoin (Na‐DB), is reported. For the polymerization of HIC, Na‐DB serves the dual functions of providing controlled fast initiation and efficiently protecting the living chain ends. The use of Na‐DB has resulted in quantitative polymer yields (~100%), effective control of the polymer's molecular weights, and low polydispersity index. To examine the living nature of poly(n‐hexyl isocyanate) (PHIC), block copolymerization of HIC with another isocyanate monomer, 3‐(triethoxysilyl)propyl isocyanate (TESPI), was carried out. The resulting block copolymer, poly(n‐hexyl isocyanate)‐b‐poly(3‐(triethoxysilyl)propyl isocyanate) (PHIC‐b‐PTESPI) was synthesized successfully via living anionic polymerization using Na‐DB with quantitative yield and controlled molecular weight. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Anionic ring‐opening polymerizations of methyl 4,6‐O‐benzylidene‐2,3‐O‐carbonyl‐α‐D ‐glucopyranoside (MBCG) were investigated using various anionic polymerization initiators. Polymerizations of the cyclic carbonate readily proceeded by using highly active initiators such as n‐butyllithium, lithium tert‐butoxide, sodium tert‐butoxide, potassium tert‐butoxide, and 1,8‐diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec‐7‐ene, whereas it did not proceed by using N,N‐dimethyl‐4‐aminopyridine and pyridine as initiators. In a polymerization of MBCG (1.0 M), 99% of MBCG was converted within 30 s to give the corresponding polymer with number‐averaged molecular weight (Mn) of 16,000. However, the Mn of the polymer decreased to 7500 when the polymerization time was prolonged to 24 h. It is because a backbiting reaction might occur under the polymerization conditions. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2013  相似文献

A series of graft (co)polymers were synthesized by nucleophilic substitution reaction between iodinated 1,2‐polybutadiene (PB‐I, backbone) and living polymer lithium (side chains). The coupling reaction between PB‐I and living polymers can finish within minutes at room temperature, and high conversion (up to 92%) could be obtained by effectively avoiding side reaction of dimerization when living polymers were capped with 1,1‐diphenylethylene. By virtue of living anionic polymerization, backbone length, side chain length, and side chain composition, as well as graft density, were well controlled. Tunable molecular weight of graft (co)polymers with narrow molecular weight distribution can be obtained by changing either the lengths of side chain and backbone, or the graft density. Graft copolymers could also be synthesized with side chains of multicomponent polymers, such as block polymer (polystyrene‐b‐polybutadiene) and even mixed polymers (polystyrene and polybutadiene) as hetero chains. Thus, based on living anionic polymerization, this work provides a facile way for modular synthesis of graft (co)polymers via nucleophilic substitution reaction between living polymers and polyhalohydrocarbon (PB‐I). © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined amphiphilic graft copolymer containing hydrophobic polyallene‐based backbone and hydrophilic poly(2‐(diethylamino)ethyl acrylate) (PDEAEA) side chains was synthesized by sequential living coordination polymerization of 6‐methyl‐1,2‐heptadiene‐4‐ol (MHDO) and single electron transfer‐living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) of 2‐(diethylamino)ethyl acrylate (DEAEA). Ni‐catalyzed living coordination polymerization of MHDO was first performed in toluene to give a well‐defined double‐bond‐containing poly(6‐methyl‐1,2‐heptadiene‐4‐ol) (PMHDO) homopolymer with a low polydispersity (Mw/Mn = 1.10). Next, 2‐chloropropionyl chloride was used for the esterification of pendant hydroxyls in every repeating unit of the homopolymer so that the homopolymer was converted to PMHDO‐Cl macroinitiator. Finally, SET‐LRP of DEAEA was initiated by the macroinitiator in tetrahydrofuran/H2O using CuCl/tris(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl)amine as catalytic system to afford well‐defined PMHDO‐g‐PDEAEA graft copolymers (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.22) through the grafting‐from strategy. The critical micelle concentration (cmc) was determined by ?uorescence spectroscopy with N‐phenyl‐1‐naphthylamine as probe and the micellar morphology was visualized by transmission electron microscopy. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined high oil‐absorption resin was successfully prepared via living radical polymerization on surface of polystyrene resin‐supported N‐chlorosulfonamide group utilizing methyl methacrylate and butyl methacrylate as monomers, ferric trichloride/iminodiacetic acid (FeCl3/IDA) as catalyst system, pentaerythritol tetraacrylate as crosslinker, and L ‐ascorbic acid as reducing agent. The polymerization proceeded in a “living” polymerization manner as indicated by linearity kinetic plot of the polymerization. Effects of crosslinker, catalyst, macroinitiator, reducing agent on polymerization and absorption property were discussed in detail. The chemical structure of sorbent was determined by FTIR spectrometry. The oil‐absorption resin shows a toluene absorption capacity of 21 g g?1. The adsorption of oil behaves as pseudo‐first‐order kinetic model rather than pseudo‐second‐order kinetic model. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2013  相似文献

A well‐defined amphiphilic graft copolymer, consisting of hydrophobic polyallene‐based backbone and hydrophilic poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) side chains, was prepared by the combination of living coordination polymerization, single electron transfer‐living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP), and the grafting‐from strategy. First, the double‐bond‐containing backbone was prepared by [(η3‐allyl)NiOCOCF3]2‐initiated living coordination polymerization of 6‐methyl‐1,2‐heptadiene‐4‐ol (MHDO). Next, the pendant hydroxyls in every repeating unit of poly(6‐methyl‐1,2‐heptadiene‐4‐ol) (PMHDO) homopolymer were treated with 2‐chloropropionyl chloride to give PMHDO‐Cl macroinitiator. Finally, PNIPAM side chains were grown from PMHDO backbone via SET‐LRP of N‐isopropylacrylamide initiated by PMHDO‐Cl macroinitiator in N,N‐dimethylformamide/2‐propanol using copper(I) chloride/tris(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl)amine as catalytic system to afford PMHDO‐g‐PNIPAM graft copolymers with a narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn = 1.19). The critical micelle concentration (cmc) in water was determined by fluorescence probe technique and the effects of pH and salinity on the cmc of PMHDO‐g‐PNIPAM were also investigated. The micellar morphology was found to be spheres using transmission electron microscopy. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2013  相似文献

N‐alkyl urea peptoid oligomers containing glucose or mannose have been synthesized and characterized. The oligomers were subsequently polymerized using a step‐growth polymerization with hexamethylene diisocyanate. Equal moles of both monomers were used to guarantee high‐molecular weight polymers. The polymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography, nuclear magnetic resonance, and Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, and contact angle measurements of solvent cast thin films. Sulfation of the final polymers was achieved using a SO3/pyridine complex in pyridine to afford the heparin biomimetics. The average degree of sulfation was calculated to be 3.5 sulfates per saccharide as measured by elemental analysis. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. In this work, we examined the synthesis of novel block (co)polymers by mechanistic transformation through anionic, cationic, and radical living polymerizations using terminal carbon–halogen bond as the dormant species. First, the direct halogenation of growing species in the living anionic polymerization of styrene was examined with CCl4 to form a carbon–halogen terminal, which can be employed as the dormant species for either living cationic or radical polymerization. The mechanistic transformation was then performed from living anionic polymerization into living cationic or radical polymerization using the obtained polymers as the macroinitiator with the SnCl4/n‐Bu4NCl or RuCp*Cl(PPh3)/Et3N initiating system, respectively. Finally, the combination of all the polymerizations allowed the synthesis block copolymers including unprecedented gradient block copolymers composed of styrene and p‐methylstyrene. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 4μ‐A2B2 star‐shaped copolymers contained polystyrene (PS), poly(isoprene) (PI), poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) or poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) arms were synthesized by a combination of Glaser coupling with living anionic polymerization (LAP) and ring‐opening polymerization (ROP). Firstly, the functionalized PS or PI with an alkyne group and a protected hydroxyl group at the same end were synthesized by LAP and then modified by propargyl bromide. Subsequently, the macro‐initiator PS or PI with two active hydroxyl groups at the junction point were synthesized by Glaser coupling in the presence of pyridine/CuBr/N,N,N ′,N ″,N ″‐penta‐methyl diethylenetri‐amine (PMDETA) system and followed by hydrolysis of protected hydroxyl groups. Finally, the ROP of EO and ε‐CL monomers was carried out using diphenylmethyl potassium (DPMK) and tin(II)‐bis(2‐ethylhexanoate) (Sn(Oct)2) as catalyst for target star‐shaped copolymers, respectively. These copolymers and their intermediates were well characterized by SEC, 1H NMR, MALDI‐TOF mass spectra and FT‐IR in details. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of 2,6‐bis(imino)pyridines, as common ligands for late transition metal catalyst in ethylene coordination polymerization, were successfully employed in single‐electron transfer‐living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) by using poly(vinylidene fluoride‐co‐chlorotrifluoroethylene) (P(VDF‐co‐CTFE)) as macroinitiator with low concentration of copper catalyst under relative mild‐reaction conditions. Well‐controlled polymerization features were observed under varied reaction conditions including reaction temperature, catalyst concentration, as well as monomer amount in feed. The typical side reactions including the chain‐transfer reaction and dehydrochlorination reaction happened on P(VDF‐co‐CTFE) in atom‐transfer radical polymerization process were avoided in current system. The relationship between the catalytic activity and the chemical structure of 2,6‐bis(imino)pyridine ligands was investigated by comparing both the electrochemical properties of Cu(II)/2,6‐bis(imino)pyridine and the kinetic results of SET‐LRP of MMA catalyzed with different ligands. The substitute groups onto N‐binding sites with proper steric bulk and electron donating are desirable for both high‐propagation reaction rate and C? Cl bonds activation capability on P(VDF‐co‐CTFE). The catalytic activity of Cu(0)/2,6‐bis(imino)pyridines is comparable with Cu(0)/2,2′‐bipyridine under the consistent reaction conditions. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Doubly thermoresponsive ABC brush‐linear‐linear triblock copolymer nanoparticles of poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether vinylphenyl]‐block‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐block‐polystyrene [P(mPEGV)‐b‐PNIPAM‐b‐PS] containing two thermoresponsive blocks of poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether vinylphenyl] [P(mPEGV)] and poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) are prepared by macro‐RAFT agent mediated dispersion polymerization. The P(mPEGV)‐b‐PNIPAM‐b‐PS nanoparticles exhibit two separate lower critical solution temperatures or phase‐transition temperatures (PTTs) corresponding to the linear PNIPAM block and the brush P(mPEGV) block in water. Upon temperature increasing above the first and then the second PTT, the hydrodynamic diameter (Dh) of the triblock copolymer nanoparticles undergoes an initial shrinkage at the first PTT and the subsequent shrinkage at the second PTT. The effect of the chain length of the PNIPAM block on the thermoresponsive behavior of the triblock copolymer nanoparticles is investigated. It is found that, the longer chains of the thermoresponsive PNIPAM block, the greater contribution on the transmittance change of the aqueous dispersion of the triblock copolymer nanoparticles. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
