Fully biobased aliphatic random poly(1,3‐propylene succinate‐ran‐1,3‐propylene adipate) (PPSA) copolyesters with high molar mass were synthesized with different macromolecular architectures based on various succinic acid/adipic acid (SA/AA) molar ratio, by transesterification in melt. Titanium (IV) isopropoxide was used as an effective catalyst. All synthesized copolyesters were fully characterized by different chemical and physicochemical techniques including NMR, size exclusion chromatography, FTIR, wide angle X‐ray scattering, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermogravimetric analysis. The final copolyesters molar compositions were identical to the feed ones. The different sequences based on succinate and adipate segments were randomly distributed along the chains. All the corresponding copolyesters showed an excellent thermal stability with a degradation onset temperature higher than 290 °C, which increased with the adipate content. According to their compositions and architectures, PPSA copolyesters can exhibit or not a crystalline phase, at room temperature. Tg of copolyesters decreased with the adipate content due to the decrease in the chains mobility, following the Gordon–Taylor relation. PPSA showed a pseudo eutectic melting behavior characteristic of an isodimorphic character. Finally, PPSA copolyesters were not able to crystallize during the cooling or the second heating run, due to the 1,3‐propanediol chemical structure, which led to amorphous materials with the exception of the polyester based solely on AA. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Mixtures of the dimethyl esters of adipic acid and 2,3:4,5‐di‐O‐methylene‐galactaric acid (Galx) were made to react in the melt with either 1,6‐hexanediol or 1,12‐dodecanediol to produce linear polycyclic copolyesters with aldarate unit contents varying from 10 up to 90 mole %. The copolyesters had weight–average molecular weights in the ~35,000–45,000 g mol?1 range and a random microstructure, and were thermally stable up to nearly 300 °C. They displayed Tg in the ‐50 to ‐7 °C range with values largely increasing with the content in galactarate units. All the copolyesters were semicrystalline with Tm between 20 and 90 °C but only those made from 1,12‐dodecanediol were able to crystallize from the melt at a crystallization rate that decreased as the contents in the two comonomers approached each other. Copolyesters containing minor amounts of galactarate units adopted the crystal structure characteristic of aliphatic polyesters but a new crystal polymorph was formed when the cyclic sugar units became the majority. Stress–strain parameters were sensitively affected by composition of the copolyesters with the mechanical behavior changing from flexible/ductile to stiff/brittle with the replacement of adipate units by the galactarate units. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new series of thermotropic liquid‐crystalline (LC) polyesters were prepared from a diacyl chloride derivative of 4,4′‐(terephthaloyldioxy)‐di‐4‐phenylpropionic acid (PTP) and glycols with a different number of methylene groups (n) [HO(CH2)n OH, n = 6–10, 12] by high‐temperature solution polycondensation in diphenyl oxide. PTP6/10 and PTP6/hydroquinone (H) LC copolyesters were also prepared according to a similar procedure. The chemical structure, LC, phase‐transition behaviors, thermal stability, and solubility were characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 1H and 13C NMR spectra, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis, and a polarizing light microscope. The melting and isotropization temperatures decreased in a zigzag manner as the number of n increased. All of the polyesters formed a nematic phase with the exception of PTP8. The temperature ranges of the mesophase (ΔT) were much wider for the polyesters with an odd number of n's than those with an even number. ΔT increased markedly for the PTP6/10 and PTP6/H copolyesters. The in vitro degradations of the polymers were ascertained by enzymatic hydrolysis and alkaline hydrolysis. The model compound, PTP dihexylester, was synthesized and found to be degraded into terephthalic acid, 3‐(4‐hydroxyphenyl)propionic acid, and 1‐hexanol by Rhizopus delemar lipase, but PTPn homopolyesters and PTP6/10 and PTP6/H copolyesters were resistant to Rhizopus delemar hydrolysis. They were degradable in a sodium hydroxide buffer solution of pH 12 at 60 °C, depending on the number of n's and the copolymer composition. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The bio‐based polyester, poly(ethylene 2,5‐furandicarboxylate) (PEF), was modified by 2,2,4,4‐tetramethyl‐1,3‐cyclobutanediol (CBDO) via copolymerization and a series of copolyesters poly(ethylene‐co‐2,2,4,4‐tetramethyl‐1,3‐cyclobutanediol 2,5‐furandicarboxylate)s (PETFs) were prepared. After their chemical structures and sequence distribution were confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance (1H‐NMR and 13C‐NMR), their thermal, mechanical, and gas barrier properties were investigated in detail. Results showed that when the content of CBDO unit in the copolyesters was increased up to 10 mol%, the completely amorphous copolyesters with good transparency could be obtained. In addition, with the increasing content of CBDO units in the copolyesters, the glass transition temperature was increased from 88.9 °C for PET to 94.3 °C for PETF‐23 and the tensile modulus was increased from 3000 MPa for PEF to 3500 MPa for PETF‐23. The barrier properties study demonstrated that although the introduction of CBDO units would increase the O2 and CO2 permeability of PEF slightly, PECF‐10 still showed better or similar barrier properties compared with those of PEN and PEI. In one word, the modified PEF copolyesters exhibited better mechanical properties, higher glass transition temperature, good barrier properties, and better clarity. They have great potential to be the bio‐based alternative to the popular petroleum‐based poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) when used as the beverage packaging materials. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Random poly(hexamethylene terephthalate‐co‐galactarate)s and poly(dodecamethylene terephthalate‐co‐galactarate)s copolyesters covering the whole range of compositions were obtained with weight‐average molecular weights of ~30,000–50,000 g mol?1 by melt polycondensation. They were thermally stable above 300 °C, and displayed Tg in the +20 to ?20 °C range with values steadily decreasing with the content in galactarate units. All the copolyesters were semicrystalline with Tm between 50 and 150 °C and those made from dodecanediol were able to crystallize from the melt at a crystallization rate depending on composition. Copolyesters containing up to 50% of galactaric units retained the crystal structure of their respective polyterephthalate homopolyesters, whereas they adopted the structure of the respective polygalactarates when the content in Galx units reached 70%. Stress‐strain essays revealed decay in the mechanical parameters as the aromatic units were replaced by Galx. Incubation in aqueous buffer revealed that hydrolysis of the polyesters were largely enhanced by copolymerization and evidenced the capacity of the Galx unit for making aromatic polyesters susceptible to biodegradation. A detailed NMR analysis complemented by SEM observations indicated that hydrolysis took place by preferred splitting of galactarate ester bonds with releasing of alkanediol and Galx‐diacid. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of glycolide was studied in melt conditions and in the presence of two different initiators: 1‐dodecanol and 1,4‐butanediol and tin(II) 2‐ethylhexanoate as catalyst. Its subsequent polymerization provided poly(glycolic acid) with controlled molar masses ranging from 2000 to 42,000 g/mol with well‐defined structures characterized by NMR. Their thermal properties were evaluated by DSC analysis, and a glass transition temperature at infinite molar mass (Tg∞) of 44.8 °C was thus calculated. From rheological data, the critical molar mass for entanglement, Mc, was estimated to be near 11,000 g/mol. Furthermore, in situ polymerizations were also performed between the plates of the rheometer within a same temperature range from 210 to 235 °C. The variation of the storage and loss moduli during the polymerization step have been monitored by time sweep oscillatory experiments under an angular frequency ω = 10 rad/s. Finally, the development of an inverse rheological method allowed to calculate the bulk polymerization kinetics in the temperature range 200–230 °C. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of fully aromatic copolyesters based on p‐acetoxybenzoic acid (p‐ABA), hydroquinone diacetate (HQDA), terephthalic acid (TPA), and m‐acetoxybenzoic acid (m‐ABA) were prepared by a modified melt‐polycondensation reaction. The copolyesters were characterized by DSC, thermogravimetric analysis, 1H NMR, polarized optical microscopy, X‐ray diffraction, and intrinsic viscosity measurements. The copolyesters exhibited nematic liquid‐crystalline phases in a broad temperature range of about 150 °C, when the content of linear (p‐ABA, HQDA, and TPA) units was over 67 mol %. DSC analysis of the anisotropic copolyesters revealed broad endotherms associated with the nematic phases, and the melting or flow temperatures were found to be in the processable region. The flow temperatures and crystal‐to‐nematic and nematic‐to‐isotropic transitions depend on the type of linear monomer units, and these transitions increased as the content of the p‐ABA units increased, as compared to the HQDA/TPA units. When the content of the p‐ABA units increased, as compared to other linear units (HQDA and TPA), the intrinsic viscosity and degree of crystallinity of the copolyesters also increased, implying a higher reactivity for p‐ABA in the p‐ABA/HQDA/TPA/m‐ABA polymer system. The aromatic region in the 1H NMR spectra of the copolyesters containing equal molar compositions of p‐ABA, HQDA, and TPA units were sensitive to the sequence distribution of aromatic rings. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A bisphenol bearing pendant maleimide group, namely, N‐maleimidoethyl‐3, 3‐bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)‐1‐isobenzopyrrolidone (PPH‐MA) was synthesized starting from phenolphthalein. Aromatic (co)polyesters bearing pendant maleimide groups were synthesized from PPH‐MA and aromatic diacid chlorides, namely, isophthaloyl chloride (IPC), terephthaloyl chloride (TPC), and 50:50 mol % mixture of IPC and TPC by low temperature solution polycondensation technique. Copolyesters were also synthesized by polycondensation of different molar proportions of PPH‐MA and bisphenol A with IPC. Inherent viscosities and number‐average molecular weights of aromatic (co)polyesters were in the range of 0.52–0.97 dL/g and 20,200–32,800 g/mol, respectively indicating formation of medium to reasonably high‐molecular‐weight polymers. 13C NMR spectral analysis of copolyesters revealed the formation of random copolymers. The 10% weight loss temperature of (co)polyesters was found in the range 470–484 °C, indicating their good thermal stability. A selected aromatic polyester bearing pendant maleimide groups was chemically modified via thiol‐maleimide Michael addition reaction with two representative thiol compounds, namely, 4‐chlorothiophenol and 1‐adamantanethiol to yield post‐modified polymers in a quantitative manner. Additionally, it was demonstrated that polyester containing pendant maleimide groups could be used to form insoluble crosslinked gel in the presence of a multifunctional thiol crosslinker. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The hyperbranched homopolyester of gallic acid (GA) was prepared by polycondensation of acetylated gallic acid in bulk. Copolyesters of gallic acid and 3-hydroxybenzoic acid (3-HBA) or β-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propionic acid (HPPA) were prepared via the silylated monomers. The degree of branching was varied in both series via the molar fraction of gallic acid. A model reaction with silylated 4-methoxybenzoic acid suggests that all three acetoxy groups of gallic acid can react by ester interchange reactions under the chosen reaction conditions. Furthermore, highly branched copolyesters derived from equimolar ratios of HPPA and 2-, 3-, or 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, vanillic acid, or 4-hydroxycinnamic acid were synthesized. All these copolyesters were found to be amorphous with glass transition temperatures (Tg's) far below that of the hyperbranched poly(gallic acid). © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J. Polym. Sci. For the first time the possibility to obtain nanostructures by self‐assembly of chitosan polyampholytic derivative was demonstrated. The self‐assembly of N‐carboxyethylchitosan (CECh) took place only near its isoelectric point (pH 5.0–5.6). Out of the pH range 5.0–5.6, CECh aqueous solutions behaved as real solutions. Dynamic light scattering and atomic force microscopy analyses revealed that spherically shaped or rod/worm‐like nanosized assemblies were formed depending on the polymer molar mass, pH value, and polymer concentration. CECh of two different molar masses was studied in concentrations ranging from 0.01 to 0.1 mg/mL. The structures from CECh of weight‐average molar mass (Mw ) 4.5 × 103 g/mol were spherical regardless the pH and polymer concentration. In contrast, CECh of high molar mass (HMMCECh, Mw = 6.7 × 105 g/mol) formed self‐assemblies with spherical shape only at pH 5.0 and 5.6. At pH 5.2 spherical nanoparticles were obtained only at polymer concentration 0.01 mg/mL. The mean hydrodynamic diameter (Dh) of the obtained nanoparticles was in the range from 30 to 980 nm. On increasing the concentration, aggregation of the nanoparticles appeared, and at HMMCECh concentration 0.1 mg/mL, rod/worm‐like structures were obtained. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of aliphatic–aromatic multiblock copolyesters consisting of poly(ethylene‐co‐1,6‐hexene terephthalate) (PEHT) and poly(L ‐lactic acid) (PLLA) were synthesized successfully by chain‐extension reaction of dihydroxyl terminated PEHT‐OH prepolymer and dihydroxyl terminated PLLA‐OH prepolymer using toluene‐2,4‐diisoyanate as a chain extender. PEHT‐OH prepolymers were prepared by two step reactions using dimethyl terephthalate, ethylene glycol, and 1,6‐hexanediol as raw materials. PLLA‐OH prepolymers were prepared by direct polycondensation of L ‐lactic acid in the presence of 1,4‐butanediol. The chemical structures, the molecular weights and the thermal properties of PEHT‐OH, PLLA‐OH prepolymers, and PEHT‐PLLA copolymers were characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR, GPC, TG, and DSC. This synthetic method has been proved to be very efficient for the synthesis of high‐molecular‐weight copolyesters (say, higher than Mw = 3 × 105 g/mol). Only one glass transition temperature was found in the DSC curves of PEHT‐PLLA copolymers, indicating that the PLLA and PEHT segments had good miscibility. TG curves showed that all the copolyesters had good thermal stabilities. The resulting novel aromatic–aliphatic copolyesters are expected to find a potential application in the area of biodegradable polymer materials. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis and characterization of new aromatic homo‐ and copolyesters based on l‐arabinitol and xylitol are described. These polymers were obtained by polycondensation reaction of the 2,3,4‐tri‐O‐methyl‐l‐arabinitol or 2,3,4‐tri‐O‐methyl‐xylitol, or their mixtures with ethylene glycol, with terephthaloyl chloride or isophthaloyl chloride in o‐dichlorobenzene or in the melt phase from the corresponding methyl phthalates. All the polymers were characterized by GPC, IR, and NMR. Their Mw values ranged between 11,500 and 46,500, with polydispersities from 1.5 to 2.3. They were found to be soluble in chloroform, but insoluble in water. In contrast with the homopolymers completely made with EG, they showed a significant hygroscopicity. DSC and TGA studies showed that the melting temperature of polyethylene terephthalate is depressed by the presence of pentitol units, whereas the thermal stability is kept above 350 °C. Only copolyesters containing 10% or less of pentitol units showed melting and produced X‐ray diffraction patterns characteristic of crystalline material. d‐Arabinitol‐based homopolyesters appeared to be more crystalline than those derived from xylitol and also presented a higher thermal stability. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave‐assisted ring‐opening polymerization (MROP) of trimethylene carbonate in the presence of 1‐n‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([bmim]BF4) ionic liquid was investigated. In the presence of 5 wt % [bmim]BF4, poly (trimethylene carbonate) (PTMC) with a number‐average molar mass (Mn) of 36,400 g/mol was obtained at 5 W for only 60 min. The Mn of PTMC synthesized in the presence of [bmim]BF4 was much higher than that produced in bulk at the same reaction time. In addition, compared with those produced by conventional heating, the Mn of PTMC and monomer conversion by MROP with or without [bmim]BF4 were both higher. Thermal properties of the resulting PTMC were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry. Under microwave irradiation in the presence of ionic liquid, the polymerization could be carried out efficiently and effectively. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel polyesters from 2,5‐furandicarboxylic acid or 2,5‐dimethyl‐furandicarboxylate and 2,3‐butanediol have been synthesized via bulk polycondensation catalyzed by titanium (IV) n‐butoxide, tin (IV) ethylhexanoate, or zirconium (IV) butoxide. The polymers were analyzed by size exclusion chromatography, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), matrix‐assisted laser ionization‐desorption time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry, electrospray ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry, electrospray ionization quadruple time‐of‐flight mass spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry. Fully bio‐based polyesters with number average molecular weights ranging from 2 to 7 kg/mol were obtained which can be suitable for coating applications. The analysis of their thermal properties proved that these polyesters are thermally stable up to 270–300 °C, whereas their glass transition temperature (Tg) values were found between 70 and 110 °C. Furthermore, a material was prepared with a molecular weight of 13 kg/mol, with a Tg of 113 °C. This high Tg would make this material possibly suitable for hot‐fill applications. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2013  相似文献

A new phosphinated acetoxybenzoic acid, 1‐(4‐acetoxyphenyl)‐1‐(4‐carboxylphenyl)‐1‐(6‐oxido‐6H‐dibenz<c,e><1,2> oxaphosphorin‐6‐yl)ethane (3), was prepared by a three‐step procedure. Phosphinated copolyesters based on the acidolysis and polycondensation of (3) with poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) were prepared. The crystallinity of copolyesters decreased gradually with the content of (3), as shown in wide‐angle X‐ray diffractograms and differential scanning calorimetry thermograms. Dynamic mechanical analysis and thermal mechanical analysis show Tg increased with the content of (3). UL‐94 flame retardant test shows that the flame resistance of PET was enhanced with the content of (3), and a copolyester with UL‐94 V‐0 grade can be achieved with a phosphorus content as low as 1.43 wt %. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cyclic oligo(butylene 2,5‐furandicarboxylate) and ɛ‐caprolactone were copolymerized in bulk at 130–150 °C by enzymatic ring opening polymerization using CALB as catalyst. Copolyesters within a wide range of compositions were thus synthesized with weight‐average molecular weights between 20,000 and 50,000, the highest values being obtained for equimolar or nearly equimolar contents in the two components. The copolyesters consisted of a blocky distribution of the ɛ‐oxycaproate (CL) and butylene furanoate (BF) units that could be further randomized by heating treatment. The thermal stability of these copolyesters was comparable to those of the parent homopolyesters (PBF and PCL), and they all showed crystallinity in more or less degree depending on composition. Their melting and glass‐transition temperatures were ranging between those of PBF and PCL with values increasing almost linearly with the content in BF units. The ability of these copolyesters for crystallizing from the melt was evaluated by comparative isothermal crystallization and found to be favored by the presence of flexible ɛ‐oxycaproate blocks. These copolyesters are essentially insensitive to hydrolysis in neutral aqueous medium but they became noticeably degraded by lipases in an extend that increased with the content in CL units. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(phenylene methylene) (PPM) was isolated in a broad range of molar masses by optimization of the catalytic polymerization of benzyl chloride with SnCl4 or FeCl3, followed by fractionation by Soxhlet extraction or phase separation in concentrated solutions in poor solvents. Low molar mass products were also obtained by quenching the reaction at moderate monomer conversions. Products with number average molar masses (Mn) ranging from 200 to 61,000 g mol−1 were isolated, the latter being an order of magnitude above the previously reported values. DSC analysis of polymers of different molar masses revealed that the glass transition temperature follows the Flory‐Fox equation reaching a plateau value of 65 °C at a molar mass between 10,000 and 20,000 g mol−1. The onset of decomposition temperature of higher molar mass products proceeds above 450 °C (maximum decomposition rate at 515 °C), according to TGA. Furthermore, the substitution pattern of PPM was discussed by study of chemical shifts of the methylene group by extensive NMR spectroscopy (1H, 13C, DEPT, and HSQC) and by comparison with two mono‐substituted derivatives of PPM—poly(2,4,6‐trimethylphenylene methylene) and poly(2,3,5,6‐tetramethylphenylene methylene)—which were synthesized analogous to PPM. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cyclic oligomer fractions of ethylene terephthalate c(ET)n and 1,4‐cyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate c(CT)n were obtained by cyclodepolymerization of their respective polyesters, the former containing around 80 mol % of trimer and the latter with around 70 mol % of trimer to pentamer. Mixtures of these fractions at selected compositions were subjected to ring opening copolymerization to give a series of poly(ethylene‐co‐cyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate) copolyesters with ET/CT comonomer ratios ranging from 90/10 to 10/90. The copolyesters were characterized by GPC and NMR, and their thermal properties were evaluated by DSC and TGA. They had essentially the same composition as the feed from which they were produced and had an average‐weight molecular weights between 30,000 and 40,000 g/mol with polydispersities between 2 and 2.7. The distribution of the monomeric units in these copolyesters was essentially at random although it evolved to be a blocky microstructure as the contents in the two comonomers became more dissimilar. Their thermal behavior was the expected one for these types of copolyesters with crystallinity and heating stability decreasing with the content in CT units. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. As a model system, thin films of trisilanolphenyl‐POSS (TPP) and two different number average molar mass (5 and 23 kg mol?1) poly(t‐butyl acrylate) (PtBA) were prepared as blends by Langmuir–Blodgett film deposition. Films were characterized by ellipsometry. For comparison, bulk blends are prepared by solution casting and the samples are characterized via differential scanning calorimetry. The increase in Tg as a function of TPP content for bulk high and low molar mass samples are in the order of ~10 °C. Whereas bulk Tg shows comparable increases for both molar masses (~10 °C), the increase in surface Tg for higher molar mass PtBA is greater than for low molar mass (~22 °C vs. ~10 °C). Nonetheless, the total enhancement of Tg is complete by the time 20 wt % TPP is added without further benefit at higher nanofiller loads. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. A series of poly(butylene terephthalate) copolyesters containing 5‐tert‐butyl isophthalate units up to 50 mol %, as well as the homopolyester entirely made of these units, were prepared by polycondensation from a melt. The microstructure of the copolymers was determined by NMR to be random for the whole range of compositions. The effect exerted by the 5‐tert‐butyl isophthalate units on thermal, tensile, and gas transport properties was evaluated. Both the melting temperature (Tm) and crystallinity were found to decrease steadily with copolymerization, whereas the glass‐transition temperature (Tg) increased and the polyesters became more brittle. Permeability and solubility slightly increased with the content in substituted isophthalic units, whereas the diffusion coefficient remained practically constant. For the homopolyester poly(5‐tert‐butyl isophthalate), all these properties were found to deviate significantly from the general trend displayed by copolyesters, suggesting that a different structure in the solid state is likely adopted in this case. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
