A study was made on the effects of polymerization conditions on the long‐chain branching, molecular weight, and end‐group types of polyethene produced with the metallocene‐catalyst systems Et[Ind]2ZrCl2/MAO, Et[IndH4]2ZrCl2/MAO, and (n‐BuCp)2ZrCl2/MAO. Long‐chain branching in the polyethenes, as measured by dynamic rheometry, depended heavily on the catalyst and polymerization conditions. In a semibatch flow reactor, the level of branching in the polyethenes produced with Et[Ind]2ZrCl2/MAO increased as the ethene concentration decreased or the polymerization time increased. The introduction of hydrogen or comonomer suppressed branching. Under similar polymerization conditions, the two other catalyst systems, (n‐BuCp)2ZrCl2/MAO and Et[IndH4]2ZrCl2/MAO, produced linear or only slightly branched polyethene. On the basis of an end‐group analysis by FTIR and molecular weight analysis by GPC, we concluded that a chain transfer to ethene was the prevailing termination mechanism with Et[Ind]2ZrCl2/MAO at 80 °C in toluene. For the other catalyst systems, β‐H elimination dominated at low ethene concentrations. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 376–388, 2000  相似文献

A series of α‐keto‐β‐diimine nickel complexes (Ar‐N = C(CH3)‐C(O)‐C(CH3)=N‐Ar)NiBr2; Ar = 2,6‐R‐C6H3‐, R = Me, Et, iPr, and Ar = 2,4,6‐Me3‐C6H3‐) was prepared. All corresponding ligands are unstable even under an inert atmosphere and in a freezer. Stable copper complex intermediates of ligand synthesis and ethyl substituted nickel complex were isolated and characterized by X‐ray. All nickel complexes were used for the polymerization of ethene, propylene, and hex‐1‐ene to investigate their livingness and the extent of chain‐walking. Low‐temperature propene polymerization with less bulky ortho‐substituents was less isospecific than the one with isopropyl derivative. Propene stereoblock copolymers were prepared by iPr derivative combining the polymerization at low temperature to prepare isotactic polypropylene (PP) block and at a higher temperature, supporting chain‐walking, to obtain amorphous regioirregular PP block. Alternatively, a copolymerization of propene with ethene was used for the preparation of amorphous block. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Propene (P)/4‐methyl‐1‐pentene (Y) copolymers in a wide range of composition were prepared with isospecific single center catalysts, rac‐Et(IndH4)2ZrCl2 ( EBTHI ), rac‐Me2Si(2‐Me‐BenzInd)2ZrCl2 ( MBI ), and rac‐CH2(3‐tBuInd)2ZrCl2 ( TBI ). 13C NMR analysis of copolymers and statistical elaboration of microstructural data at triad level were performed. Unprecedented and surprising results are here reported. Random P/Y copolymers were prepared with the most isospecific catalyst, TBI , that is known to prepare ethene/propene and ethene/4‐methyl‐1‐pentene copolymers with long homosequences of both comonomers, whereas longer homosequences of both comonomers were observed in copolymers from the less enantioselective metallocenes EBTHI and MBI . These findings, which are against what is acknowledged in the field, can pave the way for the preparation on a large scale of random propene‐based copolymers. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Ethene was copolymerized (1) with 1,5‐hexadiene with rac‐ethylenebis(indenyl)zirconium dichloride/methylaluminoxane (MAO) used as a catalyst and (2) with 1,7‐octadiene with bis(n‐butylcyclopentadienyl)zirconium dichloride/MAO and rac‐ethylenebis(indenyl)hafnium dichloride (Et[Ind]2HfCl2)/MAO used as catalysts at 80 °C in toluene. The copolymer microstructure and the influence of diene incorporation on the rheological properties were examined. Ethene and 1,5‐hexadiene formed a copolymer in which a major fraction of the 1,5‐hexadiene was incorporated into rings and a small fraction formed 1‐butenyl branches. The copolymerization of ethene with 1,7‐octadiene resulted in a higher selectivity toward branch formation. Some of the branches formed long‐chain‐branching (LCB) structures. The ring formation selectivity increased with decreasing ethene concentration in the polymerization reactor. Melt rheological properties of the diene copolymers resembled those of metallocene‐catalyzed LCB homopolyethenes and depended on the vinyl content, the catalyst, and the polymerization conditions. At high diene contents, all three catalysts produced crosslinked polyethene. This was especially pronounced with Et[Ind]2HfCl2, where only 0.2 mol % 1,7‐octadiene in the copolymer was required to achieve significantly modified rheological properties. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The behaviors of rac‐[CH2(3‐tert‐butyl‐1‐indenyl)2]ZrCl2 ( 1 ) and Cp2ZrCl2 ( 2 ) activated by methylaluminoxane in ethene/1,4‐pentadiene copolymerization are compared. In the presence of 1 , inserted methylene‐1,3‐cyclobutane units, a large number of crosslinks, and a small number of methylene‐1,3‐cyclohexane units are obtained. Differently, a polyethene containing only 1,3‐cyclohexane rings is achieved with 2 as the catalytic precursor. Polymer microstructures are compared with those obtained with 1 and 2 in ethene/1,6‐heptadiene copolymerization, which leads only to polyethene containing cyclohexane rings. A tentative rationalization of the experimental data is reported. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 44: 5525–5532, 2006  相似文献

Two novel sulfonate phenol ligands—3,3′‐di‐tert‐butyl‐2′‐hydroxy‐5,5′,6,6′‐tetramethyl‐biphenyl‐2‐yl 4‐X‐benzenesulfonate (X?CF3, LCF3 ‐H, and X?OCH3, LOMe ‐H)—were prepared through the sulfonylation of 3,3′‐di‐tert‐butyl‐5,5′,6,6′‐tetramethylbiphenyl‐2,2′‐diol with the corresponding 4‐substituted benzenesulfonyl chloride (1 equiv.) in the presence of excess triethylamine. Magnesium (Mg) complexes supported by sulfonate phenoxide ligands were synthesized and characterized structurally. The reaction of MgnBu2 with L‐H (2 equiv.) produces the four‐coordinated monomeric complexes ( LCF3 )2Mg ( 1 ) and ( LOMe )2Mg ( 2 ). Complexes 1 and 2 are efficient catalysts for the ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL) and trimethylene carbonate (TMC) in the presence of 9‐anthracenemethanol; complex 1 catalyzes the polymerization of ε‐CL and TMC in a controlled manner, yielding polymers with the expected molecular weights and narrow polydispersity indices (PDIs). In ε‐CL polymerization, the activity of complex 1 is greater than that of complex 2 , likely because of the greater Lewis acidity of Mg2+ metal caused by the electron‐withdrawing substitute trifluoromethyl (? CF3) at the 4‐position of the benzenesulfonate group. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 48: 3564–3572, 2010  相似文献

Dynamic mechanical thermoanalysis showed that polyethene, prepared under suitable polymerization conditions with the Brookhart‐type catalyst dibromo‐N,N′‐1,2‐acenaphthylenediylidenebis[2,6‐bis(1‐methylethyl)benzeneamine]Ni(II)/methylaluminoxane (MAO), behaved like an elastomer, even though no comonomer was added. A structural characterization showed that the polymers contained methyl to hexyl branches and some longer branches. The effect of the polymerization conditions on branching was investigated through variations in the pressure and temperature of the polymerization. Depending on the degree and type of branching, polyethene was either quite amorphous or highly crystalline with a high melting temperature. The solid‐state structure of the catalyst dibromo‐N,N′‐1,2‐acenaphthylenediylidenebis[2,6‐bis(1‐methylethyl)benzeneamine]Ni(II) consisted of two centrosymmetrically related monomeric moieties, where Ni atoms were bridged by two bromide ligands. The Ni atom was five‐coordinated, with a square pyramidal coordination polyhedron. The sixth coordination site of the octahedral geometry was effectively blocked by the isopropyl groups of the 2,6‐C6H3(i‐Pr) substituents of the diimine ligand. In solution in the presence of MAO, the longer bridging Ni? Br bonds broke, and the complex dissociated to a monomeric species. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Cationic (arene)ruthenium‐based tetranuclear complexes of the general formula [Ru4(η6‐p‐cymene)4(μ‐NN)2(μ‐OO∩OO)2]4+ were obtained from the dinuclear (arene)ruthenium complexes [Ru2(η6p‐cymene)2(μ‐OO∩OO)2Cl2] (p‐cymene=1‐methyl‐4‐(1‐methylethyl)benzene, OO∩OO=5,8‐dihydroxy‐1,4‐naphthoquinonato(2?), 9,10‐dihydroxy‐1,4‐anthraquinonato(2?), or 6,11‐dihydroxynaphthacene‐5,12‐dionato(2?)) by reaction with pyrazine or bipyridine linkers (NN=pyrazine, 4,4′‐bipyridine, 4,4′‐[(1E)‐ethene‐1,2‐diyl]bis[pyridine]) in the presence of silver trifluoromethanesulfonate (CF3SO3Ag) (Scheme). All complexes 4 – 12 were isolated in good yield as CF3SO salts, and characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopy. The host–guest properties of the metallarectangles incorporating 4,4′‐bipyridine and (4,4′‐[(1E)‐ethene‐1,2‐diyl]bis[pyridine] linkers were studied in solution by means of multiple NMR experiments (1D, ROESY, and DOSY). The largest metallarectangles 10 – 12 incorporating (4,4′‐[(1E)‐ethene‐1,2‐diyl]bis[pyridine] linkers are able to host an anthracene, pyrene, perylene, or coronene molecule in their cavity, while the medium‐size metallarectangles 7 – 9 incorporating 4,4′‐bipyridine linkers are only able to encapsulate anthracene. However, out‐of‐cavity interactions are observed between these 4,4′‐bipyridine‐containing rectangles and pyrene, perylene, or coronene. In contrast, the small pyrazine‐containing metallarectangles 4 – 6 show no interaction in solution with this series of planar aromatic molecules.  相似文献

Well‐defined macromolecular brushes with poly(N‐isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAM) side chains on random copolymer backbones were synthesized by “grafting from” approach based on click chemistry and reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. To prepare macromolecular brushes, two linear random copolymers of 2‐(trimethylsilyloxy)ethyl methacrylate (HEMA‐TMS) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) (poly(MMA‐co‐HEMA‐TMS)) were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization and were subsequently derivated to azide‐containing polymers. Novel alkyne‐terminated RAFT chain transfer agent (CTA) was grafted to polymer backbones by copper‐catalyzed 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition (azide‐alkyne click chemistry), and macro‐RAFT CTAs were obtained. PNIPAM side chains were prepared by RAFT polymerization. The macromolecular brushes have well‐defined structures, controlled molecular weights, and molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn ≦ 1.23). The RAFT polymerization of NIPAM exhibited pseudo‐first‐order kinetics and a linear molecular weight dependence on monomer conversion, and no detectable termination was observed in the polymerization. The macromolecular brushes can self‐assemble into micelles in aqueous solution. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 48: 443–453, 2010  相似文献

Cationic substitutionally inert cyclometalated ruthenium (II) and osmium (II) complexes, ([Mt(o‐C6H4‐2‐py)(LL)2]PF6), where LL‐1,10‐phenanthroline (phen) or 2,2′‐bipyridine (bipy), were used for radical polymerization of styrene. Gradual modification of the complexes within the series allowed comparison of the catalytic activity and the redox properties. There was no correlation between the reducing powers of the complexes and their catalytic activities. The osmium compound of the lowest reduction potential was not active. All the ruthenium complexes catalyzed the polymerization of styrene in a controlled manner; but the level of control and the catalytic activity were different under the same polymerization conditions. [Ru(o‐C6H4‐2‐py)(phen)2]PF6 demonstrated the best catalytic performance though its redox potential was the highest. It catalyzed the “living” polymerization with a reasonable rate at a catalyst‐to‐initiator ratio of 0.1. 1 equiv. of Al(OiPr)3 accelerated the polymerization and improved the control, but higher amount of Al(OiPr)3 did not speed up the polymerization and moved the process into the uncontrollable regime. Under the most optimal conditions, the controlled polymerization occurs fast without any additive and the catalyst degradation. Added free ligands inhibited the polymerization suggesting that the catalytically active ruthenium intermediates are generated via the reversible dechelation of bidentate phen or bipy ligands. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This study reports the characteristics of gel‐type dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), fabricated with gel‐type electrolyte containing poly‐1,1′‐(methylenedi‐4,1‐phenylene)bismaleimide (PBMI), or poly‐1,1′‐(3,3′‐dimethyl‐1,1′‐biphenyl‐4,4′‐diyl)bismaleimide (PDBBMI), or poly‐N,N′‐(4‐methyl‐1,3‐phenylene)bismaleimide (PMPBMI), prepared by in situ polymerization of the corresponding monomer without an initiator at 30 °C. Incorporating 0.3 wt % content of exfoliated alkyl‐modified nanomica (EAMNM) into PBMI‐gelled electrolyte leads to higher short‐circuit current density (Jsc = 17.14 mA cm?2) and efficiency (η = 7.02%) than that of neat PBMI‐gel electrolyte (Jsc = 15.32 mA cm?2, η = 6.41%). Incorporating 0.3 wt % EAMNM into PBMI‐gelled electrolyte results in remarkably stable device performance under continuous light soaking under one sun (100 mW cm?2) at 55 °C. The efficiency of DSSCs based on PBMI/0.3 wt % EAMNM‐gelled electrolyte drops by only 1.7% (η = 6.93%) after 500 h of continuous light soaking. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A homotelechelic macroligand bearing two 2,2′:6′,2″‐terpyridin‐4′‐yl units, as chain ends, is used as building block for the preparation of a linear metallo‐supramolecular chain‐extended polymer. The macroligand has been prepared by nitroxide‐mediated polymerization (NMP) of styrene using a bis‐terpyridine‐functionalized NMP initiator. The controlled character of the NMP process has been confirmed by detailed characterization of the polymer by size‐exclusion chromatography, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy as well as mass spectrometry. Subsequently, the self‐assembly with FeII ions into the chain‐extended metallopolymer and the disassembly thereof, in the presence of a strong competitive ligand, has been studied by UV–vis absorption spectroscopy and diffusion‐ordered NMR spectroscopy. The reversibility of the formation of the metallo‐supramolecular material, when addressed by external stimuli, could be proven. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel cyclic ether monomer 3‐{2‐[2‐(2‐hydroxyethoxy)ethoxy]ethoxy‐methyl}‐3′‐methyloxetane (HEMO) was prepared from the reaction of 3‐hydroxymethyl‐3′‐methyloxetane tosylate with triethylene glycol. The corresponding hyperbranched polyether (PHEMO) was synthesized using BF3·Et2O as initiator through cationic ring‐opening polymerization. The evidence from 1H and 13C NMR analyses revealed that the hyperbranched structure is constructed by the competition between two chain propagation mechanisms, i.e. active chain end and activated monomer mechanism. The terminal structure of PHEMO with a cyclic fragment was definitely detected by MALDI‐TOF measurement. A DSC test implied that the resulting polyether has excellent segment motion performance potentially beneficial for the ion transport of polymer electrolytes. Moreover, a TGA assay showed that this hyperbranched polymer possesses high thermostability as compared to its liquid counterpart. The ion conductivity was measured to reach 5.6 × 10?5 S/cm at room temperature and 6.3 × 10?4 S/cm at 80 °C after doped with LiTFSI at a ratio of Li:O = 0.05, presenting the promise to meet the practical requirement of lithium ion batteries for polymer electrolytes. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The single‐electron transfer living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) from silicon wafer modified with an initiator layer composed of 2‐bromopropionyl bromide (2‐BPB) fragments is described. The amount of Cu(0) generated in situ by the disproportination of Cu(I) to Cu(0) and Cu(II) in the presence of 2,2′‐bipyridine (2,2′‐bpy) ligand and N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF) solvent at 90 °C is dependent on the ratio of [CuBr]/[CuBr2]. By proper selection of the [CuBr]/[CuBr2] ratio, well‐controlled SET‐LRP polymerization of NIPAM was observed such that the thickness of the layer consisting of chains grown from the surface increased linearly with the molecular weight of chains polymerized in solution in identical. In addition, the calculation of grafting parameters, including surface coverage, σ (mg/m2); grafting density, Σ (chain/nm2); and average distance between grafting sites, D (nm), from the number‐average molecular weight, M n (g/mol), and ellipsometric thickness, h (nm), values indicated the synthesis of densely grafted poly(NIPAM) films and allowed us to predict a “brush‐like” conformation. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL) was carried out using β‐diketiminato‐supported monoaryloxo ytterbium chlorides L1Yb(OAr)Cl(THF) (1) [L1 = N,N′‐bis(2,6‐dimethylphenyl)‐2,4‐pentanediiminato, OAr = 2,6‐di‐tert‐butylphenoxo‐], and L2Yb(OAr′)Cl(THF) (2) [L2 = N,N′‐bis(2,6‐diisopropylphenyl)‐2,4‐pentanediiminato, OAr′ = 2,6‐di‐tert‐butyl‐4‐methylphenoxo‐], respectively, as single‐component initiator. The influence of reaction conditions, such as polymerization temperature, polymerization time, initiator, and initiator concentration, on the monomer conversion, molecular weight, and molecular weight distribution of the resulting polymers was investigated. Complex 1 was well characterized and its crystal structure was determined. Some features and kinetic behaviors of the CL polymerization initiated by these two complexes were studied. The polymerization rate is first order with respect to monomer. The Mn of the polymer increases linearly with the increase of the polymer yield, while polydispersity remained narrow and unchanged throughout the polymerization in a broad range of temperatures from 0 to 50 °C. The results indicated that the present system has a “living character”. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 44: 1147–1152, 2006  相似文献

The effect of the chain constraint on the glass‐transition temperature of polystyrene (pS) was studied in the context of polymer tethering to curved surfaces. The synthesis and characterization of silica‐graft‐polystyrene (SiO2g‐pS) hybrid nanoparticles is reported. Silica nanoparticles possessing covalently bound pS chains were prepared by the atom transfer radical polymerization of styrene from functionalized colloidal surfaces. These hybrid nanoparticles serve as interesting examples of spherical polymer brushes, as a high density of grafted pS was achieved on the inorganic colloid. The confirmation of a brushlike extension of immobilized chains in a good solvent was obtained with dynamic light scattering in toluene of SiO2g‐pS colloids possessing various molar masses of tethered pS. The solid‐state morphology of SiO2g‐pS ultrathin films was assessed with transmission electron microscopy, and this confirmed that the silica colloids were well‐dispersed in a matrix of the tethered polymer. Differential scanning calorimetry was used to study the effects of tethering and chain immobilization on the glass‐transition temperature of pS. The measured glass‐transition temperature of annealed bulk films of the hybrid nanoparticles was elevated with respect to the value for pure bulk pS. The enhancements ranged from 13 to 2 K for SiO2g‐pS brushes possessing tethered pS with number‐average molecular weights of 5230 and 32,670 g/mol, respectively. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. With the rapid development of modern industry, water pollution has become an intractable environmental issue facing humans worldwide. In particular, the organic dyes discharged into natural water from dyestuffs, dyeing and the textile industry are the main sources of pollution in wastewater. To eliminate these types of pollutants, degradation of organic contaminants through a photocatalytic technique is an effective methodology. To exploit more crystalline photocatalysts for the degradation of organic dyes, two coordination polymers, namely catena‐poly[[(3,5‐dicarboxybenzene‐1‐carboxylato‐κO 1)silver(I)]‐μ‐trans‐1‐(pyridin‐3‐yl)‐2‐(pyridin‐4‐yl)ethene‐κ2N :N ′], [Ag(C9H5O6)(C12H10N2)]n or [Ag(H2BTC)(3,4′‐bpe)]n , (I), and poly[[(μ3‐5‐carboxybenzene‐1,3‐dicarboxylato‐κ4O 1,O 1′:O 3:O 3)[μ‐trans‐1‐(pyridin‐3‐yl)‐2‐(pyridin‐4‐yl)ethene‐κ2N :N′ ]cadmium(II)] monohydrate], {[Cd(C9H4O6)(C12H10N2)]·H2O}n or {[Cd(HBTC)(3,4′‐bpe)]·H2O}n , (II), have been prepared by the hydrothermal reactions of benzene‐1,3,5‐tricarboxylic acid (H3BTC) and trans‐1‐(pyridin‐3‐yl)‐2‐(pyridin‐4‐yl)ethene (3,4′‐bpe) in the presence of AgNO3 or Cd(NO3)2·4H2O, respectively. These two title compounds have been structurally characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction and powder X‐ray diffraction. In (I), the AgI ions and organic ligands form a one‐dimensional coordination chain, and adjacent coordination chains are connected by Ag…O interactions to give rise to a two‐dimensional supramolecular network. Each two‐dimensional network is entangled with other equivalent networks to generate an infrequent interlocked 2D→3D (2D and 3D are two‐ and three‐dimensional, respectively) supramolecular framework. In (II), the CdII ions are bridged by the HBTC2− and 3,4′‐bpe ligands, which lie across centres of inversion, to give a two‐dimensional coordination network. The thermal stabilities and photocatalytic properties of the title compounds have also been studied.  相似文献

There are intra‐chain and inter‐chain hydrogen bonds in the structures, the former providing cohesion of the linear arrays and the latter promoting the formation of broad planes parallel to (010).  相似文献

Well‐defined polymethylene‐block‐polystyrene (PM‐b‐PS) diblock copolymers were synthesized via a combination of polyhomologation of ylides and reversible addition‐fragmentation chain‐transfer (RAFT) polymerization of styrene. Trithiocarbonate‐terminated polymethylenes (PM‐TTCB) (Mn = 1400 g mol?1; Mw/Mn = 1.09 and Mn = 2100 g mol?1; Mw/Mn = 1.20) were obtained via an esterification of S?1‐dodecyl‐S′‐(α,α′‐dimethyl‐α″‐acetate) trithiocarbonate with hydroxyl‐terminated polymethylene synthesized via polyhomologation of ylides followed by oxidation. Then, a series of PM‐b‐PS (Mn = 5500–34,000 g mol?1; Mw/Mn = 1.12–1.25) diblock copolymers were obtained by RAFT polymerization of styrene using PM‐TTCB as a macromolecular chain‐transfer agent. The chain structures of all the polymers were characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), gel permeation chromatography, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The thiocarbonylthio end‐group of PM‐b‐PS was transformed into thiol group by aminolysis and confirmed by UV–vis spectroscopy. In addition, microfibers and microspheres of such diblock copolymers were fabricated by electrospinning process and observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. The oxidative coupling polymerization of 2,3‐dihydroxynaphthalene with the novel dinuclear‐type copper(II) catalysts successfully produced poly(2,3‐dihydroxy‐1,4‐naphthylene). For example, the MeOH‐insoluble polymer with a number average molecular weight of 4.4 × 103 from the polymerization using the complex of CuCl2 and N,N′‐bis(2‐morpholinoethyl)‐p‐xylylenediamine ( p ‐ 1 ) at room temperature under an O2 atmosphere followed by acetylation of the hydroxyl groups was obtained in 63% yield. The structures of the tetraamine ligands and the counter anion of the copper(II) salts significantly influenced the catalyst activity. The polymerization of 2,2′‐dimethoxy‐1,1′‐binaphthalene‐3,3′‐diol with the 2CuCl2p ‐ 1 catalyst, however, resulted in a lower yield. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
