We have investigated the morphology and packing manner of graft copolymers consisting of rigid‐rod‐like poly(γ‐benzyl L ‐glutamate) (PBLG) main chains and grafted diblock copolymers of amorphous poly(propylene glycol) (PPG) and crystalline poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG). The results of differential scanning calorimetry and wide‐angle X‐ray scattering measurements for graft copolymers with higher side‐chain volume fractions suggest that the rodlike main chains and crystallized PEG chains exist in segregated domains. Small‐angle X‐ray scattering profiles for these samples show diffraction intensity maxima accompanied by higher order peaks, the positions of which suggest the formation of an ordered layered structure. From these observations, the graft copolymers are estimated to form repeated layered structure consisting of segregated PBLG, PPG, and PEG layers. A proposed model for molecular packing of the graft copolymers is consistent with the experimental observation that the repeating distance for the layered structure decreases with an increase in the volume fraction of side chains. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Graft copolymers consisting of amorphous main chain, poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), or poly(methyl acrylate) (PMAc), and crystalline side chains, poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), have been prepared by copolymerization of PEG macromonomers with methyl methacrylate or methyl acrylate (MMAx or MACx, respectively). Because of the compatibility of PMMA/PEG and PMAc/PEG, from small‐angle X‐ray scattering results, the main and side chains in graft copolymers were suggested to be homogeneous in the molten state. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) cooling scans revealed that PEG side chains for graft copolymers with large PEG fractions were crystallized when the sample was cooled, with a cooling rate of 10 °C/min. The spherulite pattern observed by a polarized optical microscope suggested the growth of PEG crystalline lamellae. Crystallization of PEG in MMAx was more restrained than in MACx. From these results, we have concluded that the crystallization behavior of the grafted side chains is strongly influenced by the glass transition of a homogeneously molten sample as well as dilution of the crystallizable chains. Domain spacings for isothermally crystallized graft copolymers were described by interdigitating chain packing in crystalline–amorphous lamellar structure. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A thiophene‐functionalized methacrylate monomer (3‐methylthienyl methacrylate) was synthesized via the esterification of 3‐thiophene methanol with methacryloyl chloride. The methacrylate monomer was polymerized by free‐radical polymerization in the presence of azobisisobutyronitrile as the initiator. Graft copolymers of poly(3‐methylthienyl methacrylate) (PMTM2) and polypyrrole and of PMTM2 and polythiophene were synthesized by constant‐potential electrolyses. p‐Toluene sulfonic acid, sodium dodecyl sulfate, and tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate were used as the supporting electrolytes. PMTM2‐coated platinum electrodes were used as anodes in the polymerization of pyrrole and thiophene. Moreover, the oxidative polymerization of poly(3‐methylthienyl methacrylate) (PMTM1) was studied with FeCl3 as the oxidant. The self‐polymerization of PMTM1 was also investigated by galvanostatic electrolysis both in dichloromethane and in propylene carbonate. The structures of PMTM1 and PMTM2 were investigated by several spectroscopic and thermal methods. The grafting process was elucidated with conductivity measurements, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and scanning electron microscopy studies. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The phase behavior and crystallization of graft copolymers consisting of poly(n‐hexyl methacrylate) (PHMA) as an amorphous main chain and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) as crystallizable side chains (HMAx with 15 ≤ x ≤ 73, where x represents the weight percentage of PEG) were investigated. Small‐angle X‐ray scattering profiles measured above the melting temperature of PEG suggested that a microdomain structure with segregated PHMA and PEG domains was formed in HMA40 and HMA46. This phase behavior was qualitatively described by a calculated phase diagram based on the mean‐field theory. Because of the segregation of PEG into microdomains, the crystallization temperature of the PEG side chains in HMAx was higher than that in poly(methyl acrylate)‐graft‐poly(ethylene glycol) having a similar value of x, which was considered to be in a disordered state above the melting temperature. In HMAx with x ≤ 40, PEG crystallization was strongly restricted, probably because the PEG microdomains were isolated in the PHMA matrix. As a result, the growth of PEG spherulite was not observed because the PEG crystallization occurred after vitrification of the PHMA segregated domains. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The thermal properties, crystallization, and morphology of amphiphilic poly(D ‐lactide)‐b‐poly(N,N‐dimethylamino‐2‐ethyl methacrylate) (PDLA‐b‐PDMAEMA) and poly (L ‐lactide)‐b‐poly(N,N‐dimethylamino‐2‐ethyl methacrylate) (PLLA‐b‐PDMAEMA) copolymers were studied and compared to those of the corresponding poly(lactide) homopolymers. Additionally, stereocomplexation of these copolymers was studied. The crystallization kinetics of the PLA blocks was retarded by the presence of the PDMAEMA block. The studied copolymers were found to be miscible in the melt and the glassy state. The Avrami theory was able to predict the entire crystallization range of the PLA isothermal overall crystallization. The melting points of PLDA/PLLA and PLA/PLA‐b‐PDMAEMA stereocomplexes were higher than those formed by copolymer mixtures. This indicates that the PDMAEMA block is influencing the stability of the stereocomplex structures. For the low molecular weight samples, the stereocomplexes particles exhibited a conventional disk‐shape structure and, for high molecular weight samples, the particles displayed unusual star‐like shape morphology. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of novel amphiphilic star-graft (SG) copolymers containing hydrophilic poly(oxyethylene) (PEO) side chains attached to a hydrophobic backbone by multifunctional entity is reported. In a first step poly(phthalimidoacrylate-co-styrene) was converted into polymers containing different number of multifunctional branching cites distributed along the main chain by partial aminolysis of the phthalimidoacrylate units with tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane. In the second step, these reactive copolymers yielded SG copolymers with different number of star-shaped PEO side groups by reaction with isocyanato terminated methoxy–PEO. The copolymers were characterized by size-exclusion chromatography, IR-, and NMR-spectroscopy. Their thermal properties were examined by thermal gravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. The studies indicate that the grafting degree and hydrogen bonding determine to a great extent the behavior of the SG copolymers in solid state and in solution. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Amphiphilic graft copolymers of definite composition were obtained by grafting of amino-functionalized poly(oxyethylene) monoether (MPEO–NH2) of M?n = 750, 2000, and 5000 onto phthalimidoacrylate (PIA) homopolymer or its copolymer with styrene (St). The radical co-polymerization of PIA and phthalimidomethacrylate (PIMA) with St was studied in dimeth-ylformamide (DMF) at 60°C. The copolymer composition curves and the monomer reactivity ratios showed a high tendency of PIA to alternating copolymerization with St (r1r2 = 0.006). Hydrogen bonding between the functional groups leads to significant spectral modifications. The micellization of the graft copolymers was studied by GPC in aqueous-methanolic eluent. The aggregation behavior of the graft copolymers depended on their composition and chromato-graphic separation lead to the copolymers fractionation. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Diethyleneglycol methylethermethacrylate(MeO2MA) and oligoethylene glycol methylethermethacrylate(OEGMA) are polymerized on polythiophene(PT) backbone to produce water‐soluble PT‐g‐PMeO2MA(PTD) and PT‐g‐P(MeO2MA‐co‐OEGMA)(PTDO) using atom transfer radical polymerization. They are characterized by 1H NMR and GPC techniques. TEM micrographs indicate that PT‐chains self‐organize as nanospheres, and atomic force micrographs suggest that aggregated PT‐chains are present at the centre surrounded by dispersed PMeO2MA fibers producing miceller‐type aggregates. Dynamic light scattering study indicates an initial decrease followed by sharp increase of Z‐average particle size of PTD with temperature for attaining lower critical solution temperature (LCST) at 20 °C. The LCST increases with OEGMA concentration in PTDO. The temperature dependent PL emission of PTD shows a minimum at 19 °C, followed by a sharp increase till 21 °C, and in the cooling cycle, it shows a complete reversibility. In the PTDO copolymers, the PL intensity shows the hike at progressively higher temperatures due to the increase of LCST with increasing OEGMA concentration. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Conjugated graft copolymers consisting of a poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) backbone and poly(9,9'‐dioctylfluorene) side chains (PF) with different grafting degrees were synthesized by the CuAAC reaction. The properties of these materials were studied by UV‐Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy. The former technique provides insight in their self‐assembly, while the latter is used to study the energy funneling from the PF side chains to the P3HT backbone. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. A novel amphiphilic graft copolymer consisting of hydrophilic poly(acrylic acid) backbones and hydrophobic poly(butyl methacrylate) side chains was synthesized by successive atom transfer radical polymerization followed by hydrolysis of poly‐(methoxymethyl acrylate) backbone. A grafting‐from strategy was employed for the synthesis of graft copolymers with narrow molecular weight distributions (polydispersity index < 1.40). Hydrophobic side chains were connected to the backbone through stable C? C bonds instead of ester connections. Poly(methoxymethyl acrylate) backbone was easily hydrolyzed to poly(acrylic acid) backbone with HCl without affecting the hydrophobic side chains. The amphiphilic graft copolymer could form stable micelles in water. The critical micelle concentration in water was determined by a fluorescence probe technique. The morphology of the micelles was preliminarily explored with transmission electron microscopy and was found to be spheres. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Amphiphilic graft copolymers were synthesized via activated ester substitution of derivatives of fumaric acid with amino-functionalized methoxypoly (oxyethylene)s (MPEO-NH2) of different molecular weights. The monomeric activated esters, isopropyl pentachlorophenyl fumarate (PCPFA) and isopropyl succinimido fumarate (SIFA), were copolymerized with styrene (St) or N-vinyl pyrrolidone (VP) at equimolar ratio. The polymeric-activated esters proved to be good precursors for grafting of definite amounts of MPEO-NH2. The aminolysis of the succinimide esters and VP-containing copolymers proceeded with gel formation due to extensive hydrogen bonding. The hydrodynamic behavior, the emulsifying ability, the thermal properties, and crystallinity of the graft copolymers were studied as a function of their molecular characteristics. The length of the PEO grafts and the degree of grafting are the factors which affect the melting parameters and the crystallinity of the side chains. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Poly(dipentylsilylene) copolymers containing n‐pentyl‐n‐oct‐7‐enylsilane units were prepared by reductive coupling of the corresponding dichlorosilanes. Linear high molecular weight and some crosslinked polymer were obtained. The soluble products exhibited optical and thermal properties like poly(dipentylsilylene). Differential scanning calorimetry was used to investigate crystallization and to monitor thermal crosslinking. Vinyl functionalized side chains were hydrosilylated with dipentylsilane and dimethylchlorosilane and crosslinked via the side chains. Hydrosilylation with di‐n‐pentyl(trimethylsiloxypropyl)silane led to a partial hydroxy functionalization of the polysilylene and enabled anionic PEO grafting of the poly(dipentylsilylene). © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Well‐defined amphiphilic graft copolymers containing hydrophilic poly((meth)acrylic acid) (PMAA) or poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) side chains with gradient and statistical distributions were synthesized. For this purpose, the hydroxy‐functionalized copolymers with various gradient degrees, in which 2‐(6‐hydroxyhexanoyloxy)ethyl (meth)acrylate units (caprolactone 2‐[methacryloyloxy]ethyl ester, CLMA) formed strong gradient with tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA), slight gradient copolymers with tert‐butyl (meth)acrylate (tBMA), and statistical copolymers with methyl (meth)acrylate (MMA) were modified to bromoester multifunctional macroinitiators, P(tBMA‐grad‐BrCLMA), P(BrCLMA‐grad‐tBA), and P(BrCLMA‐co‐MMA). In the next step, they were applied in controlled radical polymerization of tBMA and tBA yielding graft copolymers with various lengths of side chains as well as graft densities. Further, the tert‐butyl groups in copolymers were successfully removed via acidolysis in the presence of trifluoracetic acid, which caused transformation of the hydrophobic graft copolymers into amphiphilic ones with ability of self‐assembly for the future biomedical applications. A series of well‐defined amphiphilic graft copolymers containing hydrophilic poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) backbone and hydrophobic poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) side chains were synthesized via sequential reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization followed by selective hydrolysis of poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) backbone. A new Br‐containing acrylate monomer, tert‐butyl 2‐((2‐bromopropanoyloxy)methyl) acrylate, was first prepared, which can be polymerized via RAFT in a controlled way to obtain a well‐defined homopolymer with narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn = 1.08). This homopolymer was transformed into xanthate‐functionalized macromolecular chain transfer agent by reacting with o‐ethyl xanthic acid potassium salt. Grafting‐from strategy was employed to synthesize PtBA‐g‐PVAc well‐defined graft copolymers with narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn < 1.40) via RAFT of vinyl acetate using macromolecular chain transfer agent. The final PAA‐g‐PVAc amphiphilic graft copolymers were obtained by selective acidic hydrolysis of PtBA backbone in acidic environment without affecting the side chains. The critical micelle concentrations in aqueous media were determined by fluorescence probe technique. The micelle morphologies were found to be spheres. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A well‐defined double hydrophilic graft copolymer, with polyacrylate as backbone, hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) and poly(methacrylic acid) as side chains, was synthesized via successive atom transfer radical polymerization followed by the selective hydrolysis of poly(methoxymethyl methacrylate) side chains. The grafting‐through strategy was first used to prepare poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate] comb copolymer. The obtained comb copolymer was transformed into macroinitiator by reacting with lithium diisopropylamine and 2‐bromopropionyl chloride. Afterwards, grafting‐from route was employed for the synthesis of poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate]‐g‐poly(methoxymethyl methacrylate) amphiphilic graft copolymer. The molecular weight distribution of this amphiphilic graft copolymer was narrow. Poly(methoxymethyl methacrylate) side chains were connected to polyacrylate backbone through stable C? C bonds instead of ester connections. The final product, poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether acrylate]‐g‐poly(methacrylate acid), was obtained by selective hydrolysis of poly(methoxymethyl methacrylate) side chains under mild conditions without affecting the polyacrylate backbone. This double hydrophilic graft copolymer was found be stimuli‐responsive to pH and ionic strength. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 4056–4069, 2008  相似文献

A series of novel graft copolymers consisting of perfluorocyclobutyl aryl ether‐based backbone and poly(methyl methacrylate) side chains were synthesized by the combination of thermal [2π + 2π] step‐growth cycloaddition polymerization of aryl bistrifluorovinyl ether monomer and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of methyl methacrylate. A new aryl bistrifluorovinyl ether monomer, 2‐methyl‐1,4‐bistrifluorovinyloxybenzene, was first synthesized in two steps from commercially available reagents, and this monomer was homopolymerized in diphenyl ether to provide the corresponding perfluorocyclobutyl aryl ether‐based homopolymer with methoxyl end groups. The fluoropolymer was then converted to ATRP macroinitiator by the monobromination of the pendant methyls with N‐bromosuccinimide and benzoyl peroxide. The grafting‐from strategy was finally used to obtain the novel poly(2‐methyl‐1,4‐bistrifluorovinyloxybenzene)‐g‐poly(methyl methacrylate) graft copolymers with relatively narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.46) via ATRP of methyl methacrylate at 50 °C in anisole initiated by the Br‐containing macroinitiator using CuBr/dHbpy as catalytic system. These fluorine‐containing graft copolymers can dissolve in most organic solvents. This is the first example of the graft copolymer possessing perfluorocyclobutyl aryl ether‐based backbone. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2010  相似文献

Poly(isoprene) (PI) with pendant functional groups was successfully synthesized by thiol‐ene addition reaction under 365 nm UV irradiation, and the functionalized PI was further modified and used to prepare graft copolymers with “V”‐shaped side chains. First, the pendant ? SCH2CH(OH)CH2OH groups were introduced to PI by thiol‐ene addition reaction between 1‐thioglycerol and double bonds, and the results showed that the addition reaction carried out only on double bonds of 1,2‐addition isoprene units. After the esterification of hydroxyl groups by 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide, the forming macroinitiator was used to initiate the atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of styrene (St) and tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA), and the graft copolymers PI‐g‐PS 2 and PI‐g‐PtBA 2 or PI‐g‐PAA 2 (by hydrolysis of PI‐g‐PtBA 2) were obtained, respectively. It was confirmed that the graft density of side chains on PI main chains could be easily controlled by variation of the contents of modified 1,2‐addition isoprene units on PI. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of polystyrene‐b‐(poly(2‐(2‐bromopropionyloxy) styrene)‐g‐poly(methyl methacrylate)) (PS‐b‐(PBPS‐g‐PMMA)) and polystyrene‐b‐(poly(2‐(2‐bromopropionyloxy)ethyl acrylate)‐g‐poly(methyl methacrylate)) (PS‐b‐(PBPEA‐g‐PMMA)) as new coil‐comb block copolymers (CCBCPs) were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The linear diblock copolymer polystyrene‐b‐poly(4‐acetoxystyrene) and polystyrene‐b‐poly(2‐(trimethylsilyloxy)ethyl acrylate) PS‐b‐P(HEA‐TMS) were obtained by combining ATRP and activators regenerated by electron transfer (ARGET) ATRP. Secondary bromide‐initiating sites for ATRP were introduced by liberation of hydroxyl groups via deprotection and subsequent esterification reaction with 2‐bromopropionyl bromide. Grafting of PMMA onto either the PBPS block or the PBPEA block via ATRP yielded the desired PS‐b‐(PBPS‐g‐PMMA) or PS‐b‐(PBPEA‐g‐PMMA). 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography data indicated the target CCBCPs were successfully synthesized. Preliminary investigation on selected CCBCPs suggests that they can form ordered nanostructures via microphase separation. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. The graft copolymers composed of “Y”‐shaped polystyrene‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide)2 (PS‐b‐PEO2) as side chains and hyperbranched poly(glycerol) (HPG) as core were synthesized by a combination of “click” chemistry and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) via “graft from” and “graft onto” strategies. Firstly, macroinitiators HPG‐Br were obtained by esterification of hydroxyl groups on HPG with bromoisobutyryl bromide, and then by “graft from” strategy, graft copolymers HPG‐g‐(PS‐Br) were synthesized by ATRP of St and further HPG‐g‐(PS‐N3) were prepared by azidation with NaN3. Then, the precursors (Bz‐PEO)2‐alkyne with a single alkyne group at the junction point and an inert benzyl group at each end was synthesized by sequentially ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of EO using 3‐[(1‐ethoxyethyl)‐ethoxyethyl]‐1,2‐propanediol (EEPD) and diphenylmethylpotassium (DPMK) as coinitiator, termination of living polymeric species by benzyl bromide, recovery of protected hydroxyl groups by HCl and modification by propargyl bromide. Finally, the “click” chemistry was conducted between HPG‐g‐(PS‐N3) and (Bz‐PEO)2‐alkyne in the presence of N,N,N′,N″,N”‐pentamethyl diethylenetriamine (PMDETA)/CuBr system by “graft onto” strategy, and the graft copolymers were characterized by SEC, 1H NMR and FTIR in details. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
