We report detailed studies of optoelectronic and charge transport properties at the organic-organic semiconductor interfaces formed between polymer chains (interchain) and within a polymer chain (intrachain). These interfaces are fabricated using poly(9,9-di-n-octylfluorene-alt-N-(4-butylphenyl)diphenylamine) (TFB [f8-tfb]) (electron-donor) and poly(9,9-di-n-octylfluorene-alt-benzothiadiazole) (F8BT [f8-bt]) (electron-acceptor) conjugated polymers, by blending them together or by covalently attaching them via a main polymer backbone (copolymer). For optoelectronic properties, when a bulky and twisted tfb molecule is incorporated into a rigid F8BT conjugated backbone, it disturbs the conjugation of F8BT polymer, leading to a blue-shift in the lowest absorption transition. However, by acting as an effective electron donor, it assists the formation of an intrachain singlet exciton that has a strong charge-transfer character, leading to a red-shifted and longer-lived emission than that of F8BT. An extremely efficient and fast energy transfer from tfb donor to bt acceptor is observed in the copolymer (<1 ps) compared to transfer from TFB to F8BT in the blend (tens of ps). This efficient energy transfer in the copolymer is found to be associated with its low fluorescence efficiency (40-45% vs 60-65% for blend) because of the migration of radiative singlet excitons to low-energy states such as triplet and exciplex states that are nonemissive or weakly emissive. The presence of molecular-scale tfb-f8-bt interfaces in the copolymer, however, does not hinder an efficient transport of charge carriers at high drive voltages. Instead, it provides a better balance of charge carriers inside the device, which leads to slower decay of the device efficiency and thus more stable light-emitting diodes with increasing voltage than the blend devices. These distinctive optoelectronic and charge transport properties observed at different organic-organic semiconductor interfaces will provide useful input for the design rules of conjugated polymers required for improved molecular electronics.  相似文献

A detailed charge recombination mechanism is presented for organic photovoltaic devices with a high open-circuit voltage. In a binary blend comprised of polyfluorene copolymers, the performance-limiting process is found to be the efficient recombination of tightly bound charge pairs into neutral triplet excitons. We arrive at this conclusion using optical transient absorption (TA) spectroscopy with visible and IR probes and over seven decades of time resolution. By resolving the polarization of the TA signal, we track the movement of polaronic states generated at the heterojunction not only in time but also in space. It is found that the photogenerated charge pairs are remarkably immobile at the heterojunction during their lifetime. The charge pairs are shown to be subject to efficient intersystem crossing and terminally recombine into F8BT triplet excitons within approximately 40 ns. Long-range charge separation competes rather unfavorably with intersystem crossing--75% of all charge pairs decay into triplet excitons. Triplet exciton states are thermodynamically accessible in polymer solar cells with high open circuit voltage, and we therefore suggest this loss mechanism to be general. We discuss guidelines for the design of the next generation of organic photovoltaic materials where separating the metastable interfacial charge pairs within approximately 40 ns is paramount.  相似文献

A new strategy to realize efficient white‐light emission from a binary fluorene‐based copolymer (PF‐Phq) with the fluorene segment as a blue emitter and the iridium complex, 9‐iridium(III)bis(2‐(2‐phenyl‐quinoline‐N,C3′)(11,13‐tetradecanedionate))‐3,6‐carbazole (Phq), as a red emitter has been proposed and demonstrated. The photo‐ and electroluminescence properties of the PF‐Phq copolymers were investigated. White‐light emission with two bands of blue and red was achieved from the binary copolymers. The efficiency increased with increasing concentration of iridium complex, which resulted from its efficient phosphorescence emission and the weak phosphorescent quenching due to its lower triplet energy level than that of polyfluorene. In comparison with the binary copolymer, the efficiency and color purity of the ternary copolymers (PF‐Phq‐BT) were improved by introducing fluorescent green benzothiadiazole (BT) unit into polyfluorene backbone. This was ascribed to the exciton confinement of the benzothiadiazole unit, which allowed efficient singlet energy transfer from fluorene segment to BT unit and avoided the triplet quenching resulted from the higher triplet energy levels of phosphorescent green emitters than that of polyfluorene. The phosphorescence quenching is a key factor in the design of white light‐emitting polyfluorene with triplet emitter. It is shown that using singlet green and triplet red emitters is an efficient approach to reduce and even avoid the phosphorescence quenching in the fluorene‐based copolymers. The strategy to incorporate singlet green emitter to polyfluorene backbone and to attach triplet red species to the side chain is promising for white polymer light‐emitting diodes. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Several crosslinkable oxetane‐functionalized copolymers, containing regio‐regular segments of 3‐hexylthiophene, are synthesized using the Grignard metathesis polymerization. The optical and electrochemical properties of the new polymers, both in the soluble and crosslinked forms, are reported. These polymers are used in the preparation of organic photovoltaics upon blending with PCBM as electron‐acceptor. The effect of the crosslinking of these copolymers, once the blend films are formed, on the devices performance is also studied. In particular, the insertion of the oxetane‐functionalized thiophene comonomers leads to a decrease of the devices performance, which is further decreased upon crosslinking of the copolymer. However, the stability of the devices overall improves upon crosslinking of the copolymer. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2014 , 52, 652–663  相似文献

Thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene‐substituted benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene donor units (TTBDT) serve as novel promising building blocks for donor–acceptor (D‐A) copolymers in organic photovoltaic cells. In this study, a new D‐A type copolymer (PTTBDT‐TPD) consisting of TTBDT and thieno[3,4‐c]pyrrole‐4,6‐dione (TPD) is synthesized by Stille coupling polymerization. A PTTBDT‐TPD analog consisting of TTBDT and alkylthienyl‐substituted BDT (PTBDT‐TPD) is also synthesized to compare the optical, electrochemical, morphological, and photovoltaic properties of the polymers. Bulk heterojunction photovoltaic devices are fabricated using the polymers as p‐type donors and [6,6]‐phenyl C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) as the n‐type acceptor. The power conversion efficiencies of the devices fabricated using PTTBDT‐TPD and PTBDT‐TPD are 6.03 and 5.44%, respectively. The difference in efficiency is attributed to the broad UV–visible absorption and high crystallinity of PTTBDT‐TPD. The replacement of the alkylthienyl moiety with thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene on BDT can yield broad UV–visible absorption due to extended π‐conjugation, and enhanced molecular ordering and orientation for organic photovoltaic cells. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two phenazine donor–acceptor‐conjugated copolymers (P1 and P2) with the same polymer backbone but different anchoring positions of alkoxy chain on the phenazine unit were investigated to identify the effect of changing the position of alkoxy chains on their optical, electrochemical, blend film morphology, and photovoltaic properties. Although the optical absorption and frontier orbital energy levels were insensitive to the position of alkoxy chains, the film morphologies and photovoltaic performances changed significantly. P1/PC71BM blend film showed the formation of phase separation with large coarse aggregates, whereas P2/PC71BM blend film was homogeneous and smooth. Accordingly, power conversion efficiency (PCE) of photovoltaic devices increased from 1.50% for P1 to 2.54% for P2. In addition, the PCE of the polymer solar cell based on P2/PC71BM blend film could be further improved to 3.49% by using solvent vapor annealing treatment. These results clearly revealed that tuning the side‐chain position could be an effective way to adjust the morphology of the active layer and the efficiency of the photovoltaic device. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of alternating copolymers of electron‐rich arylamine and electron‐deficient 2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole (BT), PV‐BT, DP‐BT, and TP‐BT, were synthesized by Heck coupling reaction. UV–vis absorption and fluorescence spectra show that the copolymerization of electron‐rich diphenylamine (DP), triphenylamine (TP), MEH‐PV (PV), and electron‐deficient BT results in low‐bandgap conjugated polymers. Within the three copolymers of PV‐BT, DP‐BT, and TP‐BT, TP‐BT possesses the highest hole mobility of 4.68 × 10? 5 cm2/V, as determined from the space charge limited current (SCLC) model. The bulk heterojunction‐typed polymer solar cells (PSCs) were fabricated with the blend of the copolymers and PCBM as the photosensitive layer. The power conversion efficiencies (PCE) of the PSCs based on PV‐BT, DP‐BT, and TP‐BT reached 0.26%, 0.39%, and 0.52%, respectively, under the illumination of AM 1.5, 100 mW/cm2. The results indicate that TP‐BT is a promising photovoltaic polymer for PSCs. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 45: 3861–3871, 2007  相似文献

A functionalized deoxyribonucleic acid (Cz‐DNA) was prepared with carbazolyl ammonium lipid as a triplet host material for phosphorescent material system. It is soluble in organic solvents, which facilitates the sample preparation for the absorption and luminescent properties in solid states. A highly soluble iridium complex, Ir(Cz‐ppy)3 with carbazolyl‐substituted 2‐phenylpyridine ligands was employed for studying the phosphorescence in Cz‐DNA. There is a good overlap between the photoluminescence spectrum of Cz‐DNA and the metal‐to‐ligand charge transfer (MLCT) absorption bands of the iridium complex. This overlap enables efficient energy transfer from the excited state in the host to the MLCT band of Ir(Cz‐ppy)3. In addition, photoluminescence quantum yield of Cz‐DNA was found to be relatively larger than the copolymer (PCzSt) with vinylcarbazole and styrene. Thus, Cz‐DNA was employed as a triplet host material for fabricating multilayered electrophosphorescence devices via modification of its property by doping 5,4‐tert‐butylhexyl‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole (PBD). After doping 30 wt % PBD and 10 wt % Ir(Cz‐ppy)3 into Cz‐DNA, we achieved much improvement in electron injection/transport from an adjacent carrier transport layer, resulting in much improved device performances. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The successful synthesis is described for a donor–acceptor rod–coil block copolymer comprising blocks of poly[2,7‐(9,9‐dihexylfluorene)‐alt‐bithiophene] (F6T2) and polystyrene functionalized with fullerene (PS(C60)) (F6T2‐b‐PS(C60)). This new material was obtained by combining Suzuki polycondensation with radical addition fragmentation chain transfer. The block copolymer was characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance, gel permeation chromatography, and optical spectroscopy methods. Photophysical data for (F6T2‐b‐PS(C60)) and a related block copolymer (F6T2‐b‐PS(PCBM)) (PCBM, phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester) are reported and their performance as compatibilizers in bulk heterojunction organic solar cells is assessed. It is demonstrated that the addition of the rod–coil block copolymers to the active layer extends the operational stability of organic photovoltaic devices. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. An indenofluorene‐based copolymer containing blue‐, green‐, and red light‐emitting moieties was synthesized by Suzuki polymerization and examined for application in white organic light‐emitting diodes (WOLEDs). Tetraoctylindenofluorene (IF), 2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole (BT), and 4,7‐bis(2‐thienyl)‐2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole (DBT) derivatives were used as the blue‐, green‐, and red‐light emitting structures, respectively. The number‐average molecular weight of the polymer was determined to be 25,900 g/mol with a polydispersity index of 2.02. The polymer was thermally stable (Td = ~398 °C) and quite soluble in common organic solvents, forming an optical‐quality film by spin casting. The EL characteristics were fine‐tuned from the single copolymer through incomplete fluorescence energy transfer by adjusting the composition of the red/green/blue units in the copolymer. The EL device using the indenofluorene‐based copolymer containing 0.01 mol % BT and 0.02 mol % DBT units ( PIF‐BT01‐DBT02 ) showed a maximum brightness of 4088 cd/m2 at 8 V and a maximum current efficiency of 0.36 cd/A with Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.34, 0.32). The EL emission of PIF‐BT01‐DBT02 was stable with respect to changes in voltage. The color emitted was dependent on the thickness of the active polymer layer; layer (~60 nm) too thin was unsuitable for realizing WOLED via energy transfer. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The electro-optical properties of thin films of electron donor-acceptor blends of a fluorene copolymer (PF10TBT) and a fullerene derivative (PCBM) were studied. Transmission electron microscopy shows that in these films nanocrystalline PCBM clusters are formed at high PCBM content. For all concentrations, a charge transfer (CT) transition is observed with absorption spectroscopy, photoluminescence, and electroluminescence. The CT emission is used as a probe to investigate the dissociation of CT excited states at the donor-acceptor interface in photovoltaic devices, as a function of an applied external electric field and PCBM concentration. We find that the maximum of the CT emission shifts to lower energy and decreases in intensity with higher PCBM content. We explain the red shift of the emission and the lowering of the open-circuit voltage (V(OC)) of photovoltaic devices prepared from these blends with the higher relative permittivity of PCBM (epsilon(r) = 4.0) compared to that of the polymer (epsilon(r) = 3.4), stabilizing the energy (E(CT)) of CT states and of the free charge carriers in blends with higher PCBM concentration. We show that the CT state has a short decay time (tau = ca. 4 ns) that is reduced by the application of an external electric field or with increasing PCBM content. The field-induced quenching can be explained quantitatively with the Onsager-Braun model for the dissociation of the CT states when including a high electron mobility in nanocrystalline PCBM clusters. Furthermore, photoinduced absorption spectroscopy shows that increasing the PCBM concentration reduces the yield of neutral triplet excitons forming via electron-hole recombination, and increases the lifetime of radical cations. The presence of nanocrystalline domains with high local carrier mobility of at least one of the two components in an organic heterojunction may explain efficient dissociation of CT states into free charge carriers.  相似文献

In this communication we investigate the degradation mechanisms of different highly fluorescent polyfluorenes for applications as active organic semiconductor material in laser devices. Using various analytical methods, like Ultraviolet‐Visible (UV‐Vis) absorption spectroscopy, Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR) and time‐of‐flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF‐SIMS), we investigate photo‐induced degradation mechanisms. It is shown that the photo‐oxidation rate decreases with an increasing number of benzothiadiazole units within the conjugated polymer. Photooxidation is much more distinct for poly[9,9‐dioctylfluorenyl‐2,7‐diyl] (PFO) than for poly[(9,9‐dioctylfluorenyl‐2,7‐diyl)‐alt‐co‐(1,4‐benzo‐{2,1′,3}‐thiadiazole)] (F8BT). The influence of the photooxidation on the lifetime of the organic laser devices is not as profound as previously assumed, since the laser shuts down before any evidence of photo‐oxidation in F8BT manifests. We observe that the solubility of the material is different at various degradation levels and we consider chain scission of excited bonds and cross‐linking as dominant degradation factors. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Control of the crystallization of conjugated polymers is of critical importance to the performance of organic electronics, such as organic photovoltaic devices, due to the effect on charge separation and transport, particularly for all‐polymer devices. The block copolymer poly(3‐dodecylthiophene)‐block‐poly(9,9‐dioctylfluorene) (P3DDT‐b‐PF), which has matched crystallization temperatures for each block, is used to study the effects of processing history on resulting crystallization. For longer annealing times and rapid quenching to room temperature, P3DDT crystals are preferred whereas for shorter annealing times and slower quenching, PF crystals are preferred. Both crystal forms are evidenced for long annealing time and slow quenching. Additionally, for room temperature annealing in the presence of a chloroform vapor, PF crystals are found in the PF β phase with the predominant crystal peak oriented perpendicular to the thermally annealed case. These results will provide guidance for optimizing annealing strategies for future donor/acceptor block copolymer photovoltaic devices. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Photoinduced absorption shows that triplets are the primary photoexcited species in a series of conjugated liquid crystals containing thiophene and fluorene groups. We find that the triplet generation rate can be varied substantially by molecular design. The introduction of extra thiophene groups into the elongated molecules changes the intersystem crossing rate by over two orders of magnitude, while modifying the singlet and triplet energies by only small amounts. This result is attributed to the high spin-orbit coupling constant of sulfur: An increase in the number of sulfur atoms increases the spin-orbit coupling between the singlet and triplet states. These results are relevant to the design of organic light emitting diodes, lasers, and other devices where triplet formation has a major impact on device performance. The molecules are shown to act as effective electron donors when blended with a perylene molecule which acts as an electron acceptor. The electron transfer rate is faster than the singlet lifetime so that the blend shows the efficient charge separation required for a photovoltaic device.  相似文献

A series of 6H‐phenanthro[1,10,9,8‐cdefg]carbazole (PC) and benzothiadiazole (BT) based donor–acceptor (D‐A) random copolymers PPC‐T‐BT_3/1, PPC‐T‐BT_2/1, PPC‐T‐BT_1/1, PPC‐T‐BT_1/2, and PPC‐T‐BT_1/3 were easily prepared by varying the molar ratio of PC to BT from 3:1, 2:1, 1:1, 1:2, to 1:3, respectively. The corresponding alternating D‐A copolymer poly{6H‐phenanthro[1,10,9,8‐cdefg]carbazole‐alt‐5,5‐(4′,7′‐di‐2‐thienyl‐2′,1′,3′‐benzothiadiazole} (PPCDTBT) was also synthesized for comparison. Compared with PPCDTBT, PPC‐T‐BT_1/1, PPC‐T‐BT_1/2, and PPC‐T‐BT_1/3 obtained more pronounced intramolecular charge transfer band and extended absorption. Power conversion efficiency of these copolymer‐based devices strongly depends on the D/A molar ratio, related to the spectrum absorption and active layer morphology. Among the polymer solar cells based on random copolymers, PPC‐T‐BT_2/1:PC61BM based device achieved the best efficiency of 1.9%, which is close to the efficiency of PPCDTBT:PC61BM based device (2.3%). Therefore, it is concluded that the random copolymer can achieve the comparable performance to alternating copolymer by precisely adjusting the D/A molar ratio on small scales. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Four different 1,8-naphthalimide derivatives were examined in phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), i.e., 1,8-naphthalimide, N-phenyl-1,8-naphthalimide, N-2,6-dibromophenyl-1,8-naphthalimide (niBr), and bis-N,N-1,8-naphthalimide. Photoluminescence from all four naphthalimides have violet-blue fluorescence and phosphorescent bands between 550 and 650 nm (visible at 77 K). While all four compounds gave good glassy films when doped with a phosphorescent dopant, only the niBr films remained glassy for extended periods. OLED studies focused on niBr, with two different architectures. One OLED structure (type 1) had the niBr layer as a doped luminescent layer and an undoped niBr layer to act as a hole-blocking layer. The alternate structure (type 2) utilizes a doped CBP layer as the luminescent layer and the niBr layer is used as a hole-blocking layer only (CBP = 4,4'-N,N'-dicarbazolylbiphenyl). Type 1 and 2 OLEDs were prepared with green, yellow, and red emissive phosphorescent dopants (Irppy, btIr, and btpIr, respectively). The dopants were organometallic Ir complexes, previously shown to give highly efficient OLEDs. Of the three dopants, the btpIr-based OLEDs showed the best device performance in both structures (peak efficiencies for type 2: 3.2% and 2.3 lum/W at 6.3 V; type 1: 1.7% and 1.3 lm/W at 6.1 V). The green and yellow dopants gave very similar performance in both type 1 and 2 devices (peak efficiencies are 0.2-0.3%), which were significantly poorer than the btpIr-based OLEDs. The emission spectrum of the btIr- and btpIr-based devices (type 1 and 2) are the same as the solution photoluminescence spectrum of the dopant alone, while the Irppy device gives a broad red emission line (lambda(max) = 640 nm). The red Irppy.niBr emission line is assigned to an Irppy.niBr exciplex. The type 2 Irppy-based device gave a voltage-dependent spectrum, with the red emission observed at low bias (4-8 V), switching over to strong green emission as the bias was raised. All other devices showed bias-independent spectra. Estimates of HOMO, LUMO, and excited-state energies (dopant, niBr, and exciplex) were used to explain the observed spectral properties of these devices. btpIr-based devices emit efficiently from isolated dopant states (external efficiencies = 3.2 %, 2.3 lum/W). Irppy-based devices emit only from exciplex states, with low efficiency (external efficiency = 0.3%). btIr.niBr films have very similar energies for the dopant, exciplex, and niBr triplet states, such that relaxation can go through any of these states, leading to low device efficiency (external efficiency = 0.4%). High device efficiency is achieved only when dopant emission is the dominant pathway for relaxation, since exciplex and niBr triplet states give either weak or no electroluminescence.  相似文献

Hydrogen bonding interactions, phase behavior, crystallization, and surface hydrophobicity in nanostructured blend of bisphenol A‐type epoxy resin (ER), for example, diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) and poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(dimethyl siloxane)‐block‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL–PDMS–PCL) triblock copolymer were investigated by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, transmission electron microscopy, small‐angle X‐ray scattering, and contact angle measurements. The PCL–PDMS–PCL triblock copolymer consisted of two epoxy‐miscible PCL blocks and an epoxy‐immiscible PDMS block. The cured ER/PCL–PDMS–PCL blends showed composition‐dependent nanostructures from spherical and worm‐like microdomains to lamellar morphology. FTIR study revealed the existence of hydrogen bonding interactions between the PCL blocks and the cured epoxy, which was responsible for their miscibility. The overall crystallization rate of the PCL blocks in the blend decreased remarkably with increasing ER content, whereas the melting point was slightly depressed in the blends. The surface hydrophobicity of the cured ER increased upon addition of the block copolymer, whereas the surface free energy (γs) values decreased with increasing block copolymer concentration. The hydrophilicity of the epoxy could be reduced through blending with the PCL–PDMS–PCL block copolymer that contained a hydrophobic PDMS block. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We calculate the electronic states of the low bandgap polyfluorene-based copolymer DiO-PFDTBT, which consists of alternating 9,9-dioctyl-9H-fluorene and 4,7-di-thiophen-2-ylbenzo[1,2,5]thiadiazole (TBT) units, and compare with the steady-state absorption, emission, and excitation spectrum. Using the semiempirical quantum-chemical (ZINDO) method we can assign the characteristic bands of the "camel-back" absorption spectrum to one charge transfer state at lower energy localized on the TBT unit, and one delocalized excitonic state at higher energy corresponding to the pi-conjugated electron system. Additional "dark" charge transfer states in the gap between these bands have been revealed. Calculations are also made on the red light emitting polyfluorene-based copolymer poly(fluorene-co-benzothiadiazole) (F8BT), which contains benzo[1,2,5]thiadiazole instead of TBT. The nature of the electronic states in F8BT and DiO-PFDTBT are found to be qualitatively the same.  相似文献

A novel D–A1–D–A2 copolymer denoted as P1 containing two electron withdrawing units based on benzothiadiazole (BT) and 9‐(2‐octyldodecyl)?8H‐pyrrolo[3,4‐b] bisthieno[2,3‐f:3′,2′‐h]quinoxaline‐8,10(9H)–dione (PTQD) units was synthesized and characterized. The resulting copolymer exhibits a broad‐absorption spectrum, relatively deep lying HOMO energy level (?5.44 eV) and narrow optical bandgap (1.50 eV). Bulk heterojunction (BHJ) polymer solar cells (PSCs) based on P1 as donor and PC71BM as acceptor with optimized donor to acceptor weight ratio of 1:2 and processed with DIO/CB solvent showed good photovoltaic performance with power conversion efficiency of 6.21% which is higher than that of the device processed without solvent additive (4.40%). The absorption and morphology investigations of the active layers indicated that structural and morphological changes were induced by the solvent additive. This higher power conversion efficiency could be mainly attributed to the absorption enhancement and improved charge transported in the active layer induced by the better nanoscale morphology of the active layer. This study demonstrated that a copolymer with two different acceptor moieties in the backbone may be promising candidate as donor copolymer for solution processed BHJ PSCs. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We demonstrate a fully conjugated donor–acceptor–donor (D–A–D) triblock copolymer, PBDTT–PNDIBT–PBDTT, which contains PBDTT as the donor block and PNDIBT as the acceptor block. The polymer was synthesized by end‐capping each block with a reactive unit, followed by condensation copolymerization between the two blocks. The physical, optical, and electrochemical properties of the polymer were investigated by comparing those of donor‐ and acceptor‐homopolymers (i.e., PBDTT and PNDIBT), which are the oligomeric monomers, and their blends. On using the newly synthesized block copolymer, ambipolar charge transport behavior was observed in the corresponding thin‐film transistor, and the behavior was compared to that of blend film of donor‐ and acceptor‐homopolymers. Owing to the presence of donor and acceptor blocks in a single polymer chain, it was found that the triblock copolymer can store two‐level information; the ability to store this information is one of the most intriguing challenges in memory applications. In this study, we confirmed the potential of the triblock copolymer in achieving distinct two‐stage data storage by utilizing the ambipolar charge trapping phenomenon, which is expected in donor and acceptor containing random and block copolymers in a thin‐film transistor. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
