The present article describes novel highly nonlinear photonic crystal fibers (HN-PCFs) with flattened chromatic dispersion and low confinement losses. The proposed design has been simulated based on the finite-difference method with anisotropic perfectly matched layers absorbing boundary condition. It is proved that the design novel HN-PCFs is obtained a nonlinear coefficient greater than 45 W−1 km−1 and low dispersion slope −0.009 ps/(nm2.km) at 1.55 μm wavelength. In addition, results from numerical simulation show that the ultra-flattened dispersion of 0 ± 0.65 ps/(nm.km) can be obtained in a 1.36-1.62 μm wavelength range with confinement losses lower than 10−7 dB/m in the same wavelength range. Another advantage of the proposed HN-PCFs is that it possessed modest number of design parameters.  相似文献

Supercontinuum generation in a highly nonlinear, dispersion-shifted fiber at 1550 nm is discussed. Spectrum generation under both pulsed and continuous-wave conditions is considered. With a few meters of highly nonlinear, dispersion-shifted fiber and a femtosecond erbium fiber laser, an octave-spanning supercontinuum is demonstrated. Kilometer lengths of nonlinear fiber pumped by a continuous-wave Raman fiber laser are shown to generate a continuum with a bandwidth greater than 247 nm. A nonlinear Schrödinger-equation model is used to investigate the effect of varying the dispersion on the pulsed continuum and noise effects in the continuous-wave continuum. The nonlinear propagation of femtosecond pulses and supercontinuum generation in photonic crystal fibers made from glasses with high nonlinear refractive indices are theoretically investigated without the use of the slowly varying envelope approximation. For specifically designed photonic crystal fibers with two zero-dispersion wavelengths, we predict supercontinuum generation due to nonsolitonic radiation emitted by the solitons on the shorter- and on the longer-wavelength sides. The physical mechanism and the peculiarities of such radiation on both spectral sides are studied and explained by the specific phase-matching relations between the solitons and their associated radiation.  相似文献

组播是波长路由光通信网络中的一项重要功能.提出并实验实现了基于高非线性光纤四波混频效应的全光组播方法,将一束载有数据的输入信号光和一束抽运光一起入射到一段高非线性光纤中,通过两个简并四波混频过程产生了两个携带该数据信息的闲频光,从而实现了单一信号的两信道组播,同时抽运光也会受到数据信息的调制.该方法的优点在于组播的实现只需要单一的抽运光源,而不需要再提供其他输入光,结构简单,组播光信号功率均匀、波长可调,并且具有进一步增加组播信道的能力. 关键词: 组播 四波混频 高非线性光纤  相似文献

We theoretically present and experimentally demonstrate all-optical wavelength multicasting based on cascaded four-wave mixing (FWM) in highly nonlinear fibers only using a single pump. The cascaded FWM effect is analyzed based on the sum amplitude method, which overcomes the limitation of the number of analyzed idlers, and the performance of the wavelength multicasting is evaluated. By using a continuous wave pump and a pulse train as the signal, multiple-order idlers are experimentally generated and the patterns of 6 multicasting channels are measured. Regardless of the dynamic region of the tunable filter, this method has the potential to realize more multicasting channels, especially when higher pump and signal powers are used.  相似文献

We report a higher-order mode filter in highly nonlinear photonic crystal fibers (HNPCFs) made by a conventional fiber taper rig based on controlled hole collapse. The air holes of the HNPCFs will become smaller due to the surface stress when they are heated on the taper rig incorporating a simple burner configuration. So the HNPCFs' configuration parameters can be easily changed by controlling the heating time. As is well known, if the relative hole size d/Λ of PCF is less than or equal to 0.4, it will become an endlessly single mode fiber. So we can control the heating time to satisfy the criterion of endlessly single mode operation, the heated section will be a higher-mode filter in HNPCFs. The optical loss of the higher-order mode filter is very low for the fundamental mode, typically less than 0.1 dB.  相似文献

In this paper the gain characteristics of two-pump fiber optical parametric amplifiers (FOPA) with two-section highly nonlinear fibers are analyzed numerically and the parameters of the fibers are optimized to reach broad and flat gain spectra using genetic algorithm. Different from the previous methods, here the space between two pump wavelengths and the parameter β4 of the fibers are included as a pivotal factor in the optimization. The numerical simulation shows that using two-section practical high nonlinear fibers, the amplifier may reach 110 nm bandwidth covering 1495–1605 nm with 10.5 dB average gain and gain ripple of 0.17 dB, when the total pump power is 1 W.  相似文献

Spectral broadening of radiation emitted by a femtosecond Cr:forsterite laser in highly nonlinear fibers (HNLFs) has been investigated. Tapered HNLFs as well as fibers with constant dispersion and dispersion varying over the fiber length are investigated. The nonreciprocal effect of spectral broadening in fibers with varying dispersion is observed. A supercontinuum is obtained in the range from 990 to 2100 nm.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a highly nonlinear dispersion flattened hexagonal photonic crystal fiber (HNDF-HPCF) with nonlinear coefficients as large as 57.5W−1 km−1 at 1.31 μm wavelength for dental optical coherence tomography (OCT) applications. This HNDF-HPCF offers not only large nonlinear coefficient but also very flat dispersion slope and very low confinement losses. Using these characteristics of our proposed PCF, it is shown through simulations by using finite difference method with an anisotropic perfectly matched boundary layer that this PCF offers the efficient supercontinuum (SC) generation for dental OCT applications at 1.31 μm wavelength using a picosecond pulse easily produced by commercially available less expensive laser sources. Coherent length of light source using SC is found 10 μm and the spatial resolutions in the depth direction for dental applications of OCT are found about 6.1 μm for enamel and 6.5 μm for dentin.  相似文献

A broadband multiwavelength Raman fiber ring laser (RFRL) covering the whole C-band at room temperature are presented. The effect of the intracavity highly nonlinear dispersion-shifted fiber on broadening and flattening the output spectrum envelope is discussed and experimentally demonstrated. More than 45-dB extinction-ratio multiwavelength output from 1527.76 to 1566.86 nm with 100-GHz channel spacing and 2.1-dB power ripple has been achieved by carefully controlling the individual powers of three pump lasers.  相似文献

A circular optical fiber consisting of an inhomogeneous nonlinear core bounded by a linear cladding medium is considered here. In this case, the calculation of the nonlinear modes is of practical importance because of the joint effects of nonlinearity and inhomogeneity on the field concentration and the achievable optical confinement. Numerical results indicate that the combination of this type of inhomogeneity along with the characteristics of nonlinearity may play a significant role towards the optical confinement in the core.  相似文献

High-power supercontinua are demonstrated in highly nonlinear, dispersion-shifted fibers with a continuous-wave Raman fiber laser. Supercontinuum growth is experimentally studied under different combinations of fiber length and launch power to show output powers as high as 3.2 W and bandwidths greater than 544 nm. Modulation instability (MI) is observed to seed spectral broadening at low launch powers, and the interplay between MI and stimulated Raman scattering plays an important role in the growth of the continuum at high launch powers. The effect on continuum generation of parametric four-wave mixing coupled with the higher-order dispersion properties of the fiber is investigated.  相似文献

We demonstrate broadband second harmonic generation of low-energy pulses produced by injecting two single-frequency lasers into a highly nonlinear fiber. Full nonlinear conversion of the corresponding spectra, consisting of broadband (∼200 nm) optical frequency combs at ∼1580 nm, were obtained by using conventional birefringence phase-matching in two BIBO crystals (2-mm and 100-μm long) with a normal incidence configuration. The crystals were not tilted and the pulses were not compressed. This broadband conversion results from the large phase-matching bandwidth of the nonlinear BIBO crystals at ∼1550 nm, but also seems to be a consequence of a fundamental comb with small spectral phase variation.  相似文献

A novel tunable highly birefringent photonic bandgap fiber (PBGF) is designed theoretically by filling its air holes with high-index material. The transmission band can be continuously tuned by changing the refractive index of the filling material. Accordingly, the tunable modal birefringence and polarization mode dispersion of the PBGFs are investigated by adjusting the refractive index of the filling material. Furthermore, we have also analyzed the effect of surface modes in the photonic bandgap on the characteristics of the tunable PBGFs. The simulation results show the feasibility of constructing birefringence-tunable photonic crystal fibers and related fiber devices in practical applications.  相似文献

The possibility of creation of a waveguiding medium with intermode coupling depending on the intensity of radiation introduced into the optical fiber is studied. It is shown that soliton-like pulses and nonlinear regimes of self-compression in the visible and ultraviolet spectral ranges in the case of a normal dispersion of group velocities can be formed in these structures.  相似文献

The nonreciprocity of the dynamics of Gaussian optical pulses propagating in inhomogeneous nonlinear active optical fibers with nonlinearity dispersion is considered. A substantial nonreciprocity of the time of pulse propagation along the optical fiber in the forward and backward directions is revealed. The possibility of realizing the regime of superluminal propagation of a pulse in one of the directions of the optical fiber is indicated.  相似文献
