The dynamic behavior of coupled chaotic oscillators is investigated. For small coupling, chaotic state undergoes a transition from a spatially disordered phase to an ordered phase with an orientation symmetry breaking. For large coupling, a transition from full synchronization to partial synchronization with translation symmetry breaking is observed. Two bifurcation branches, one in-phase branch starting from synchronous chaos and the other antiphase branch bifurcated from spatially random chaos, are identified by varying coupling strength epsilon. Hysteresis, bistability, and first-order transitions between these two branches are observed.  相似文献

We analyze experimentally the spatio-temporal dynamics of the transverse structures appearing in broad area edge-emitting semiconductor amplifiers under CW optical injection. We demonstrate that, in certain conditions, the light reflected by the system exhibits a multipeaked structure whose dependence on the parameters suggests an interpretation in terms of cavity solitons. These structures can exhibit self-pulsations with periods of the order of few milliseconds, which we explain in terms of regenerative thermal oscillations. In a particular device, we generate two single-peak structures which are spatially uncorrelated, as required for cavity solitons. A microscopic model shows good agreement with the main body of the experimental results.  相似文献

We study the formation of localized structures in two-dimensional systems with periodic forcing, showing that these types of systems provide an adequate framework for the study and control of localized structures. Theoretically, we introduce a dissipative ϕ 4 model as a prototype for a bistable spatially forced system, and we show that with different spatial forcings of small amplitudes, such as square or hexagonal grids, this model exhibits a family of localized structures. By changing the forcing parameters, we control the bistability between the various induced patterns. Experimentally, based on an optical feedback with spatially amplitude-modulated beam, we set-up a two-dimensional forced experiment in a nematic liquid crystal cell. By changing the forcing parameters, the system exhibits a family of localized structures that are confirmed by numerical simulations for the average liquid crystal tilt angle.  相似文献

A system of nonlinear differential equations describing the dynamic evolution of coherent excitons, photons, and biexcitons is derived in the geometry of a ring cavity. Nonlinearity is caused by the direct binding of two excitons in a biexciton as a result of their Coulomb interaction, which was first predicted by Ivanov, Keldysh, and Panashchenko. The equation of state of the theory of optical bistability is obtained for the stationary case. The stability of stationary states is studied, and the switching times between the branches of the optical bistability curve are determined. It is shown that the appearance of nonlinear periodic and chaotic self-pulsations with the creation of a system of limit cycles and strange attractors in phase space is possible in the unstable portions of the equation of state. We study a new class of nonlinear cooperative phenomena that occur when light propagates in direct-gap semiconductors. The nonlinearity here is due to a process, first discussed by A. L. Ivanov, L. V. Keldysh, and V. V. Panashchenko, in which two excitons are bound into a biexciton by virtue of their Coulomb interaction. For the geometry of a ring cavity, we derive a system of nonlinear differential equations describing the dynamical evolution of coherent excitons, photons, and biexcitons. For the time-independent case we arrive at the equation of state of optical bistability theory, and this equation is found to differ considerably from the equations of state in the two-level atom model and in the exciton region of the spectrum. We examine the stability of the steady states and determine the switchover times between the optical bistability branches. We also show that in the unstable sections of the equation of state, nonlinear periodic and chaotic self-pulsations may arise, with limit cycles and strange attractors being created in the phase space of the system. The scenario for the transition to the dynamical chaos mode is found. A computer experiment is used to study the dynamic optical bistability. Semi-classical approach to study the self-trapping of an electron in a linear molecular chain of finite number of sites N reveals a bistability reflecting two degenerate ground state configurations of the electron-lattice system. This bistability emerges as a result of symmetry breaking which occurs only for even N when the electron-phonon coupling exceeds a threshold. In experiments on illumination of thin photosensitive AgCl films containing granular Ag by a focused laser beam (λ=633 nm), self-pulsations in the form of optical turbulence were found and studied. In the course of illumination, the turbulence was observed in the pattern of small-angle scattering in the form of “boiling” of light spots separated by dark spacings. The formation of turbulence is associated with spontaneous microgratings, whose origin involves waveguide TE modes scattered in a film, and their competition in the course of illumination, which leads to the growth of one microgratings and the decay of the other.  相似文献

To describe two correlated events, the Alice–Bob (AB) systems were constructed by Lou through the symmetry of the shifted parity, time reversal and charge conjugation. In this paper, the coupled AB system of the Kadomtsev–Petviashvili equation, which is a useful model in natural science, is established. By introducing an extended Bäcklund transformation and its bilinear formation, the symmetry breaking soliton, lump and breather solutions of this system are derived with the aid of some ansatze functions. Figures show these fascinating symmetry breaking structures of the explicit solutions.  相似文献

The conditions for the realization of absorption optical bistability under the simultaneous action of two (radiative and nonradiative) mechanisms of recombination of free charge carriers are investigated. It is shown that, in the diffusion mechanism of stream of free electrons from the beam axis, the temperature dependence of radiative recombination does not expand the temperature range of the thermostat in which the optical bistability occurs. A scheme is proposed with application of an external transverse electric field, which makes it possible to realize absorption optical bistability at any ambient temperature. An important advantage of this scheme is the conservation of the state of a bistable system after the action of a light pulse and a significant decrease in the energy spent on cooling of the medium.  相似文献

In this work, we study the evolution of a Gaussian beam inside a one-dimensional inverted nonlinear photonic crystals (INPC) with a Kerr nonlinearity. The INPC is a kind of virtual crystals which is generated by the optical induction via the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). The propagation dynamics of the Gaussian with different total power are identified. Four types of propagation behavior are found. They are collapse beam, breather beam, soliton and symmetry-breaking beam, respectively. The border between these four behavior types are given. For symmetry-breaking beam, an asymmetric profile of the beam is evolving from the symmetry Gaussian, which can be termed as a kind of dynamical symmetry breaking (DSB). The influences on the appearance of the symmetry breaking point are studied by varying input parameters of the Gaussian. The results of this work are both suitable in nonlinear optics and Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC).  相似文献

The magnetic properties of Pd/Fe/Pd films and nanodisks with diameter 600 nm fabricated by focused ion beam milling were investigated. A fourth-order anisotropy of magnetization reversal in nanodisk arrays was observed during the experiment. It was demonstrated that the anisotropy occurs due both to the breaking of symmetry of dipole-dipole interactions at array boundaries and to the initiation of inhomogeneous configurations of magnetization in nanodisks.  相似文献

Propagation of a flat-topped beam of circular or non-circular (rectangular or elliptical) symmetry through an apertured optical system is investigated. By expanding the hard aperture function as a finite sum of complex Gaussian functions, some approximate analytical propagation formulas are derived for a flat-topped beam of circular or non-circular (rectangular or elliptical) symmetry propagating through an apertured paraxial general astigmatic (GA) optical system or an apertured paraxial misaligned stigmatic (ST) optical system. The derived formulas are very fast to compute. The results obtained by using the approximate analytical expressions are in a good agreement with those obtained by direct numerical integration. The present analytical formulas provide a convenient and effective way for studying the propagation and transformation of a circular or non-circular flat-topped beam through an apertured general optical system.  相似文献

Local-field effects are known to induce bistability in dense optical media. We examine theoretically whether this property is preserved in broad-area cavities, and show that bistability between the homogeneous lasing and nonlasing states of the system persists provided a Fourier filtering technique is used to prevent off-axis emission. The resulting bistability gives rise to spatial light localization in the form of cavity solitons, which exhibit a particularly large degree of plasticity as a function of the characteristics of the addressing beam. This is the simplest laser able to sustain cavity solitons.  相似文献

把硬边光阑从复杂光学系统中“移”出来,即把任意一个含有硬边光阑的复杂光学系统体现到含有入射光瞳和出射光瞳的光学系统中,使硬边光阑的作用转化为出射光瞳的作用,以便求出观察面上的解析解。对入射面上的二维厄米 高斯光束,利用柯林斯公式和入射光瞳与出射光瞳的物像关系,可得到所要求观察面的场分布和解析结果,通过数值模拟验证了其正确性。通过分析计算得到如下结论:对于任意一个含有硬边光阑的复杂光学系统,都可以把光阑的作用从系统中“移”出来,把其看作是出射光瞳的作用,从而可以较为简便地求出观察面上的场分布。  相似文献

The regularities of self-focusing and filamentation of spatially focused ultra-short laser radiation in air are theoretically considered. The relationship between beam focusing sharpness and effective characteristics of the filamentation zone is investigated. The formation of ‘narrow’ and ‘wide’ light filaments compared to that of collimated radiation filamentation, upon high-power focused laser pulse propagation, is established.  相似文献

为了实现高均匀性的半导体激光器泵浦光源,研究了成像型光束积分器中微透镜的变化对泵浦光均匀性的影响。详细讨论了微透镜数值孔径与入射光束的角度匹配的问题。推导了高斯光束经成像型光束积分器的光场分布模型,分析了微透镜的边缘衍射对光斑均匀性的影响,明确了微透镜孔径大小的取值范围,并利用ZEMAX进行了系统仿真及实验验证。结果表明,经优化后的成像型光束积分器实现了不均匀性为8.11%的矩形光斑。  相似文献

依据四能级系统速率方程 ,推导出了多横模振荡固体激光器输出与输入参量的关系。对二极管抽运固体激光器中线阵激光二极管三向对称侧面抽运结构 ,计算了抽运光强分布 ,并就激光器的阈值抽运功率、近阈值条件下的斜率效率、输出功率和光束质量等与抽运参量的关系 ,进行了数值计算。由计算结果看出 ,线阵激光二极管侧面抽运Nd∶YAG激光器中晶体半径和抽运光束腰半径是影响输出激光功率和光束质量的主要因素 ,并通过在谐振腔中加小孔选模 ,使光束质量得到明显改善。选择了一组三向侧面抽运结构参量进行了实验验证 ,实验结果与理论计算一致。  相似文献

We show experimentally and theoretically that reaction systems characterized by a slow induction period followed by a fast evolution to equilibrium can readily generate "spatial bistability" when operated in thin gel reactors diffusively fed from one side. This phenomenon which corresponds to the coexistence of two different stable steady states, not breaking the symmetry of the boundary conditions, can be at the origin of diverse reaction-diffusion instabilities. Using different chemical reactions, we show how stationary pulses, labyrinthine patterns or spatiotemporal oscillations can be generated. Beyond simple reaction-diffusion instabilities, we also demonstrate that the cross coupling of spatial bistability with the size responsiveness of a chemosensitive gel can give rise to autonomous spatiotemporal shape patterns, referred to as chemomechanical structures.  相似文献

基于广义衍射积分公式和光阑函数的复高斯展开,导出了一洛伦兹光束经一个带圆形光阑失调傍轴光学系统的近似解析传输公式.作为一般公式的特例,还给出了洛伦兹光束经一无光阑失调傍轴光学系统的解析传输式.作为数值计算的例子,运用所得到的公式分析了洛伦兹光束经带光阑失调薄透镜的传输特性.结果表明:不同强度的衍射即圆形光阑半径的大小明显影响衍射光束的归一化强度分布及其传输变化规律. 关键词: 洛伦兹光束 失调傍轴光学系统 光束传输  相似文献
