The effect of particle clustering on void damage rates in a ductile material under triaxial loading conditions is examined using three-dimensional finite element analysis. An infinite material containing a regular distribution of clustered particles is modelled using a unit cell approach. Three discrete particles are introduced into each unit cell while a secondary population of small particles within the surrounding matrix is represented using the Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman (GTN) constitutive equations. Deformation strain states characteristic of sheet metal forming are considered; that is, deep drawing, plane strain and biaxial stretching. Uniaxial tensile stress states with varying levels of superimposed hydrostatic tension are also examined. The orientation of a particle cluster with respect to the direction of major principal loading is shown to significantly influence failure strains. Coalescence of voids within a first-order particle cluster (consisting of three particles) is a stable event while collapse of inter-cluster ligaments leads to imminent material collapse through void-sheeting.  相似文献

A combined necking and shear localization analysis is adopted to model the failures of two aluminum sheets, AA5754 and AA6111, under biaxial stretching conditions. The approach is based on the assumption that the reduction of thickness or the necking mode is modeled by a plane stress formulation and the final failure mode of shear localization is modeled by a generalized plane strain formulation. The sheet material is modeled by an elastic-viscoplastic constitutive relation that accounts for the potential surface curvature, material plastic anisotropy, material rate sensitivity, and the softening due to the nucleation, growth, and coalescence of microvoids. Specifically, the necking/shear failure of the aluminum sheets is modeled under uniaxial tension, plane strain tension and equal biaxial tension. The results based on the mechanics model presented in this paper are in agreement with those based on the forming limit diagrams (FLDs) and tensile tests. When the necking mode is suppressed, the failure strains are also determined under plane strain conditions. These failure strains can be used as guidances for estimation of the surface failure strains on the stretching sides of the aluminum sheets under plane strain bending conditions. The estimated surface failure strains are higher than the failure strains of the forming limit diagrams under plane strain stretching conditions. The results are consistent with experimental observations where the surface failure strains of the aluminum sheets increase significantly on the stretching sides of the sheets under bending conditions. The results also indicate that when a considerable amount of necking is observed for a sheet metal under stretching conditions, the surface failure strains on the stretching sides of the sheet metal under bending conditions can be significantly higher.  相似文献

The paper presents a study of the Marciniak and Kuczynski (MK for short) model for the prediction of limit strains of orthotropic sheet metal under in-plane proportional biaxial stretching. In two particular cases analytical results can be obtained if the groove of the MK model is oriented along one of the in-plane symmetry axes. The first case is the plane strain loading mode. Necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for the MK-predicted plane strain limit strain to match exactly the experimentally measured limit strain. An example of material, the AA5182-O aluminum alloy, that does not satisfy these conditions is discussed. It is shown then that if a power-law strain rate sensitivity is included in the hardening law then the MK-model can match exactly any target plane strain limit strain. The second case is the non-hardening case for positive strain ratios. This case allows for an insight into the way the MK-predicted limit strains depend upon the yield function. Based on the theory developed for the plane strain case, material heterogeneity as a possible cause for unstable plastic flow is further discussed. It is shown that such heterogeneities can be modeled by perturbing the rate of deformation with an eigenstrain. This allows for an extension of the MK-model to sheets of uniform thickness.  相似文献

The Marciniak and Kuczynski (M–K) model for necking prediction in sheet metal forming was based on the in-plane forming. Bending which was resulted from out-of-plane forming was not considered in the M–K model. Whereas most of the sheet metal forming processes and also standard test of hemispherical punch for forming limit diagram are out-of-plane forming, it is important to consider bending effect in the M–K model. Therefore, in this study bending strain is added to stretching strain of M–K model and a new model is presented for forming limit diagram (FLD) prediction. This modified M–K (MM–K) model is written in the python programming language and it is used as a post-processing criterion for FLD prediction in the commercial software Abaqus. The MM–K model was used to predict FLD and weld line movement in the tailor welded blank forming. It was found that the predicted results by MM–K model are in a good agreement with experimental data.  相似文献

Summary  A criterion for ductile fracture is introduced in the finite element simulation of sheet metal forming. From the calculated histories of stress and strain in each element, the fracture initiation site and the critical stroke are predicted by means of the ductile fracture criterion. The calculations are carried out for axisymmetric stretch forming of various aluminium alloy sheets and their laminates clad by mild steel sheets. The predictions so obtained are compared with experimental observations. The results show that the combination of the finite element simulation and the ductile fracture criterion enables the prediction of forming limit in a wide range of sheet metals. Localization phenomena in thin sheets subjected to plane stress tension are investigated. The sheet is modelled as a polycrystalline aggregate, and a finite element analysis based on rate-dependent crystal plasticity is developed to simulate large strain behaviour. Accordingly, each material point in the specimen is considered to be a polycrystalline aggregate consisting of a large number of FCC grains. The Taylor model of crystal plasticity theory is assumed. This analysis accounts for initial textures as well as texture evolution during large plastic deformations. The numerical analysis incorporates certain parallel computing features. Simulations have been carried out for an aluminum sheet alloy, and the effects of various parameters on the formation and prediction of localized deformation (in the form of necking and/or in-plane shear bands) are examined.  相似文献

A linked FEM-damage percolation model of aluminum alloy sheet forming   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A so-called damage percolation model is linked with a finite element model of a sheet forming process to offer a comprehensive study of ductile damage evolution. In the current study, a damage percolation code is linked with LS-DYNA, an explicit dynamic FEM code used to introduce local strain gradients and compliance effects due to damage-induced softening. The linked model utilizes a Gurson-based yield surface to account for the softening effects of void damage, while the local damage development and void linkage events are modeled using the damage percolation code. The percolation code accepts detailed second phase particle fields from image analysis of a 2.0×1.6 mm optical micrograph of AA5182 aluminum alloy sheet. The model is applied to a stretch-flange stamping process which is known to be a damage-sensitive operation. The critical conditions for fracture are predicted for various initial stretch flange hole sizes.  相似文献

To reduce the computation cost of finite element analyses aiding die design for sheet metal stamping, a hybrid membrane/shell method was developed to determine the springback of anisotropic sheet metal undergoing axisymmetric loading. The hybrid membrane/shell method uses a membrane model to analyze the stamping operation. The bending/unbending strains and stresses varying through thickness are calculated analytically from the incremental shape determined by the membrane analysis. These bending strains and stresses and the final membrane shape are used with a shell finite element model to unload the sheet and calculate springback. The accuracy of the springback prediction with the hybrid method was verified against the springback of 2036-T4 aluminum and a DQAK steel sheet drawn into a cup. It was found that, in comparison with a full shell model, a minimum of 50% CPU time saving and a comparable accuracy was achieved when the hybrid method was used to predict springback.  相似文献

In this paper, we illustrate a formal calibration, validation, and verification process that includes uncertainty in an internal state variable plasticity-damage model that is implemented in a finite element code. The physically motivated continuum model characterizes damage evolution by incorporating material uncertainty due to microstructural spatial clustering. The uncertainty analysis is performed by introducing material variation through model validation and verification. The effect of variability in microstructural clustering and boundary conditions on the sensitivities and uncertainty of the plasticity-damage evolution for the 7075 aluminum alloy is characterized. The results show the potential of this methodology in the evaluation of material response uncertainty due to microstructure spatial clustering and its effect on damage evolution. For damage evolution, we have shown that the initial isotropic damage evolved into an anisotropic form as the deformation increased which is consistent with experimentally observed behavior for 7075 aluminum alloy in literature. Also, the sensitivities were found to be consistent with the physics of damage progression for this particular type of material. Through the sensitivity analysis, the initial defect size and number density of cracked particles are important at the beginning of deformation. As damage evolves, more voids are nucleated and grow and the sensitivity analysis illustrates this as well. Then, voids combine with each other and coalescence becomes the main driver, which is also confirmed by the sensitivity analysis. This work also shows that the microstructurally based damage evolution equations provide an accurate representation of the damage progression due to large intermetallic particles. Finally, we illustrate that the initial variation in the microstructure clustering can lead to about ±7.0%, ±8.1%, and ±9.75% variation in the elongation to failure strain for torsion, tensile, and compressive loading, respectively.  相似文献

Sheet metal forming processes generally involve large deformations together with complex loading sequences. In order to improve numerical simulation predictions of sheet part forming, physically-based constitutive models are often required. The main objective of this paper is to analyze the strain localization phenomenon during the plastic deformation of sheet metals in the context of such advanced constitutive models. Most often, an accurate prediction of localization requires damage to be considered in the finite element simulation. For this purpose, an advanced, anisotropic elastic–plastic model, formulated within the large strain framework and taking strain-path changes into account, has been coupled with an isotropic damage model. This coupling is carried out within the framework of continuum damage mechanics. In order to detect the strain localization during sheet metal forming, Rice’s localization criterion has been considered, thus predicting the limit strains at the occurrence of shear bands as well as their orientation. The coupled elastic–plastic-damage model has been implemented in Abaqus/implicit. The application of the model to the prediction of Forming Limit Diagrams (FLDs) provided results that are consistent with the literature and emphasized the impact of the hardening model on the strain-path dependency of the FLD. The fully three-dimensional formulation adopted in the numerical development allowed for some new results – e.g. the out-of-plane orientation of the normal to the localization band, as well as more realistic values for its in-plane orientation.  相似文献

In this paper an anisotropic material model based on non-associated flow rule and mixed isotropic–kinematic hardening was developed and implemented into a user-defined material (UMAT) subroutine for the commercial finite element code ABAQUS. Both yield function and plastic potential were defined in the form of Hill’s [Hill, R., 1948. A theory of the yielding and plastic flow of anisotropic metals. Proc. R. Soc. Lond. A 193, 281–297] quadratic anisotropic function, where the coefficients for the yield function were determined from the yield stresses in different material orientations, and those of the plastic potential were determined from the r-values in different directions. Isotropic hardening follows a nonlinear behavior, generally in the power law form for most grades of steel and the exponential law form for aluminum alloys. Also, a kinematic hardening law was implemented to account for cyclic loading effects. The evolution of the backstress tensor was modeled based on the nonlinear kinematic hardening theory (Armstrong–Frederick formulation). Computational plasticity equations were then formulated by using a return-mapping algorithm to integrate the stress over each time increment. Either explicit or implicit time integration schemes can be used for this model. Finally, the implemented material model was utilized to simulate two sheet metal forming processes: the cup drawing of AA2090-T3, and the springback of the channel drawing of two sheet materials (DP600 and AA6022-T43). Experimental cyclic shear tests were carried out in order to determine the cyclic stress–strain behavior and the Bauschinger ratio. The in-plane anisotropy (r-value and yield stress directionalities) of these sheet materials was also compared with the results of numerical simulations using the non-associated model. These results showed that this non-associated, mixed hardening model significantly improves the prediction of earing in the cup drawing process and the prediction of springback in the sidewall of drawn channel sections, even when a simple quadratic constitutive model is used.  相似文献

In this study, effects of typical texture components observed in rolled aluminum alloy sheets on shear band formation in plane strain tension/compression and bending are systematically studied. The material response is described by a generalized Taylor-type polycrystal model, in which each grain is characterized in terms of an elastic–viscoplastic continuum slip constitutive relation. First, a simple model analysis in which the shear band is assumed to occur in a weaker thin slice of material is performed. From this simple model analysis, two important quantities regarding shear band formation are obtained: i.e. the critical strain at the onset of shear banding and the corresponding orientation of shear band. Second, the shear band development in plane strain tension/compression is analyzed by the finite element method. Predictability of the finite element analysis is compared to that of the simple model analysis. Third, shear band developments in plane strain pure bending of a sheet specimen with the typical textures are studied. Regions near the surfaces in a bent sheet specimen are approximately subjected to plane strain tension or compression. From this viewpoint, the bendability of a sheet specimen may be evaluated, using the knowledge regarding shear band formation in plane strain tension/compression. To confirm this and to encompass overall deformation of a bent sheet specimen, including shear bands, finite element analyses of plane strain pure bending are carried out, and the predicted shear band formation in bent specimens is compared to that in the tension/compression problem. Finally, the present results are compared to previous related studies, and the efficiency of the present method for materials design in future is discussed.  相似文献

The temperature-dependent Barlat YLD96 anisotropic yield function developed previously [Forming of aluminum alloys at elevated temperatures – Part 1: Material characterization. Int. J. Plasticity, 2005a] was applied to the forming simulation of AA3003-H111 aluminum alloy sheets. The cutting-plane algorithm for the integration of a general class of elasto-plastic constitutive models was used to implement this yield function into the commercial FEM code LS-Dyna as a user material subroutine (UMAT). The temperature-dependent material model was used to simulate the coupled thermo-mechanical finite element analysis of the stamping of an aluminum sheet using a hemispherical punch under the pure stretch boundary condition. In order to evaluate the accuracy of the UMAT’s ability to predict both forming behavior and failure locations, simulation results were compared with experimental data performed at several elevated temperatures. Forming limit diagrams (FLDs) were developed for the AA3003-H111 at several elevated temperatures using the M-K model in order to predict the location of the failure in the numerical simulations. The favorable comparison found between the numerical and experimental data shows that a promising future exists for the development of more accurate temperature-dependent yield functions to apply to thermo-hydroforming process.  相似文献

In this study, forming limit diagram (FLD) is experimentally acquired for aluminum alloy 3105 in usual velocities (Quasi-static condition). In addition, numerical simulation by commercially available finite element code ABAQUS/Explicit using ductile fracture criteria is performed. Simulation is done in quasi-static condition (\(\dot{\varepsilon} \le 0.01/s\)) and case of forming by low-impact (\(\dot{\varepsilon} \le 50/s\)).The results show that a substantial improvement in high-strain-rate formability of the aluminum sheet can be obtained.  相似文献
