An interface crack with a frictionless contact zone at the right crack-tip between two dissimilar magnetoelectroelastic materials under the action of a thermal flux and remote magnetoelectromechanical loads is considered. The open part of the crack is assumed to be electrically impermeable and magnetically permeable, and the crack faces are assumed to be heat insulted. The inhomogeneous combined Dirichlet–Riemann and Hilbert boundary value problems are, respectively, formulated and solved analytically. Stress, electrical displacement intensity factors as well as energy release rate are found in analytical forms, and analytical expressions for the contact zone length have been obtained for both the general case and the case of small contact zone length. Some numerical results are presented, which show clearly the effects of thermal and magnetoelectromechanical loads on the contact zone length, stress intensity factor and energy release rate. Results presented in this paper should have potential applications to the design of multilayered magnetoelectroelastic structures and devices.  相似文献

The paper deals with the estimation of the pressure distribution, the shape of contact and the friction force at the interface of a flat soft elastic solid moving on a rigid half-space with a slightly wavy surface. In this case an unsymmetrical contact is considered and justified with the adhesion hysteresis. For soft solids as rubber and polymers the friction originates mainly from two different contributions: the internal friction due to the viscoelastic properties of the bulk and the adhesive processes at the interface of the two solids. In the paper the authors focus on the latter contribution to friction. It is known, indeed, that for soft solids, as rubber, the adhesion hysteresis is, at least qualitatively, related to friction: the larger the adhesion hysteresis the larger the friction. Several mechanisms may govern the adhesion hysteresis, such as the interdigitation process between the polymer chains, the local small-scale viscoelasticity or the local elastic instabilities. In the paper the authors propose a model to link, from the continuum mechanics point of view, the friction to the adhesion hysteresis. A simple one-length scale roughness model is considered having a sinusoidal profile. For partial contact conditions the detached zone is taken to be a mode I propagating crack. Due to the adhesion hysteresis, the crack is affected by two different values of the strain energy release rate at the advancing and receding edges respectively. As a result, an unsymmetrical contact and a friction force arise. Additionally, the stability of the equilibrium configurations is discussed and the adherence force for jumping out of contact and the critical load for snapping into full contact are estimated.  相似文献

We consider boundary value problem in which an elastic layer containing a finite length crack is under compressive loading. The crack is parallel to the layer surfaces and the contact between crack surfaces are either frictionless or with adhesive friction or Coulomb friction.Based on fourier integral transformation techniques the solution of the formulated problems is reduced to the solution of a singular integral equation, then, using Chebyshev’s orthogonal polynomials, to an infinite system of linear algebraic equations. The regularity of these equations is established. The expressions for stress and displacement components in the elastic layer are presented. Based on the developed analytical algorithm, extensive numerical investigations have been conducted. The results of these investigations are illustrated graphically, exposing some novel qualitative and quantitative knowledge about the stress field in the cracked layer and their dependence on geometric and applied loading parameters. It can be seen from this study that the crack tip stress field has a mode II type singularity.  相似文献

A magnetoelectrically permeable interface crack between two semi-infinite magnetoelectroelastic planes under the action of a heat flow and remote magnetoelectromechanical loadings is considered, where the assumption of frictionless contact between two dissimilar halfplanes is adopted. Not only the solutions of the interface crack problem are presented in an explicit form, but also the general condition for the transition from a perfect thermal contact of two magnetoelectroelastic bodies to their separation is given.  相似文献

In previous work about axisymmetric adhesive contact on power-law graded elastic materials, the contact interface was often assumed to be frictionless, which is, however, not always the case in practical applications. In order to elucidate the effect of friction and the coupling between normal and tangential deformations, in the present paper, the problem of a rigid punch with a parabolic shape in non-slipping adhesive contact with a power-law graded half-space is studied analytically via singular integral equation method. A series of closed-form analytical solutions, which include the frictionless and homogeneous solutions as special cases, are obtained. Our results show that, compared with the frictionless case, the interfacial friction tends to reduce the contact area and the indentation depth during adhesion. The magnitude of the coupling effect depends on both the Poisson ratio and the gradient exponent of the half-space. This effect vanishes for homogeneous incompressible as well as for linearly graded materials but becomes significant for auxetic materials with negative Poisson’s ratio. Furthermore, influence of mode mixity on the adhesive behavior of power-law graded materials, which was seldom touched in literature, is discussed in details.  相似文献

A generalized plane strain JKR model is established for non-slipping adhesive contact between an elastic transversely isotropic cylinder and a dissimilar elastic transversely isotropic half plane, in which a pulling force acts on the cylinder with the pulling direction at an angle inclined to the contact interface. Full-coupled solutions are obtained through the Griffith energy balance between elastic and surface energies. The analysis shows that, for a special case, i.e., the direction of pulling normal to the contact interface, the full-coupled solution can be approximated by a non-oscillatory one, in which the critical pull-off force, pull-off contact half-width and adhesion strength can be expressed explicitly. For the other cases, i.e., the direction of pulling inclined to the contact interface, tangential tractions have significant effects on the pull-off process, it should be described by an exact full-coupled solution. The elastic anisotropy leads to an orientation-dependent pull-off force and adhesion strength. This study could not only supply an exact solution to the generalized JKR model of transversely isotropic materials, but also suggest a reversible adhesion sensor designed by transversely isotropic materials, such as PZT or fiber-reinforced materials with parallel fibers.  相似文献

An interface crack of a finite length moving with a constant subsonic speed v along an interface of two semi-infinite piezoelectric spaces is considered. It is assumed that the bimaterial compound is loaded by a remote mixed mode mechanical loading and a thermoelectrical field and that a frictionless contact zone arises at the leading crack tip. Electrically permeable and electrically insulated cases of the open part of the crack are involved into the consideration. By introducing a moving coordinate system at the crack tip the problem is reduced to a combined Dirichlet–Riemann boundary value problem which is solved exactly. For both cases of the electrical conditions the transcendental equations are obtained for the determination of the real contact zone length, and moreover, the associated closed form asymptotic formulas are found for small values of this parameter. Variations of the contact zone length and the stress intensity factor with respect to the crack speed and the loading have been investigated both for electrically permeable and electrically insulated cases.  相似文献

The existence and uniqueness of an equilibrium solution to frictional contact problems involving a class of moving rigid obstacles is studied. At low friction coefficient values, the steady sliding frictional contact problem is uniquely solvable, thanks to the Lions-Stampacchia theorem on variational inequalities associated with a nonsymmetric coercive bilinear form. It is proved that the coerciveness of the bilinear form can be lost at some positive critical value of the friction coefficient, depending only on the geometry and the elastic properties of the body. An example presented here, shows that infinitely many solutions can be obtained when the friction coefficient is larger than the critical value. This result is paving the road towards a theory of jamming in terms of bifurcation in variational inequality. The particular case where the elastic body is an isotropic half-space is studied. The corresponding value of the critical friction coefficient is proved to be infinite in this case. In the particular case of the frictionless situation, our analysis incidentally unifies the approaches developed by Lions-Stampacchia (variational inequalities) and Hertz (harmonic analysis on the half-space) to contact problems in linear elasticity.  相似文献

Summary A plane strain problem for a crack with a frictionless contact zone at the leading crack tip expanding stationary along the interface of two anisotropic half-spaces with a subsonic speed under the action of various loadings is considered. The cases of finite and infinite-length interface cracks under the action of a moving concentrated loading at its faces are considered. A finite-length crack for a uniform mixed-mode loading at infinity is considered as well. The associated combined Dirichlet-Riemann boundary value problems are formulated and solved exactly for all above-mentioned cases. The expressions for stresses and the derivatives of the displacement jumps at the interface are presented in a closed analytical form for an arbitrary contact zone length. Transcendental equations are obtained for the determination of the real contact zone length, and the associated closed form asymptotic formulas are found for small values of this parameter. It is found that independently of the types of the crack and loading, an increase of the crack tip speed leads to an increase of the real contact zone length and the correspondent stress intensity factor. The latter increase significantly for an interface crack tip speed approaching the Ragleigh wave speed.  相似文献

Exact mathematical analyses are presented for interface crack between dissimilar elastic-plastic materials. The deformation theory of plasticity is used. For two kinds of boundary conditions on crack faces: (1) traction free and (2) frictionless contact, the asymptotic separable solutions of the HRR type with full continuity are obtained, which exist only for special mixity parameterM p. For any assignedM p, the separable solutions of the HRR type which contained weak discontinued line are further obtained. All of our results not only satisfy the continuity of displacements and that of tractions on the interface, but also they are free of oscillatory singularity and interpenetration of crack faces. This investigation is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China  相似文献

An inplane problem for a crack moving with constant subsonic speed along the interface of two piezoelectric materials is considered. A mechanically frictionless and electrically permeable contact zone is assumed at the right crack tip whilst for the open part of the crack both electrically permeable and electrically insulated conditions are considered. In the first case a moving concentrated loading is prescribed at the crack faces and in the second case an additional electrical charge at the crack faces is prescribed as well. The main attention is devoted to electrically permeable crack faces. Introducing a moving coordinate system at the leading crack tip the corresponding inhomogeneous combined Dirichlet–Riemann problem is formulated and solved exactly for this case. All electromechanical characteristics at the interface are presented in a closed form for arbitrary contact zone lengths, and further, the transcendental equation for the determination of the real contact zone length is derived. As a particular case of the obtained solution a semi-infinite crack with a contact zone is considered. The numerical analysis performed for a certain piezoelectric bimaterial showed an essential increase of the contact zone length and the associated stress intensity factor especially for the near-critical speed region. Similar investigations have been performed for an electrically insulated crack and the same behavior of the above mentioned parameters is observed.

The evolution pattern of collinear crack array plays a very important role in the final failure pattern of rock and predicting earthquake. Crack interactions lead to the nonhomogeneous pseudo-traction, then result in bifurcation of crack growth pattern. Bifurcation condition of crack growth pattern can be expressed by the crack growth length/spacing ratio. For collinear cracks loaded by dynamic compressive loads, uniform crack growth pattern yields to non-uniform crack growth pattern when the crack growth length/spacing ratio is larger than a critical value. In this paper, crack interactions are studied using stress superposition principle and the Chebyshev polynomials expansion of the pseudo-traction. The analytical solution of the critical value for two collinear cracks and infinite collinear cracks is given out. The critical value is sensitive to pre-existing crack length, the friction coefficient, the orientation of pre-existing crack, crack growth velocity.  相似文献

Hard wear resistant coatings that are subjected to contact loading sometimes fail because the coating delaminates from the substrate. In this report, systematic finite element computations are used to model coating delamination under contact loading. The coating and substrate are idealized as elastic and elastic–plastic solids, respectively. The interface between coating and substrate is represented using a cohesive zone law, which can be characterized by its strength and fracture toughness. The system is loaded by an axisymmetric, frictionless spherical indenter. We observe two failure modes: shear cracks may nucleate just outside the contact area if the indentation depth or load exceeds a critical value; in addition, tensile cracks may nucleate at the center of the contact when the indenter is subsequently removed from the surface. Delamination mechanism maps are constructed which show the critical indentation depth and force required to initiate both shear and tensile cracks, as functions of relevant material properties. The fictitious viscosity technique for avoiding convergence problems in finite element simulations of crack nucleation and growth on cohesive interfaces allows us to explore a wider parametric space that a conventional cohesive model cannot handle. Numerical results have also been compared to analytical analyses of asymptotic limits using plate bending and membrane stretching theories, thus providing guidelines for interpreting the simulation results.  相似文献

Gecko and many insects have evolved specialized adhesive tissues with bottom-up designed (from nanoscale and up) hierarchical structures that allow them to maneuver on vertical walls and ceilings. The adhesion mechanisms of gecko must be robust enough to function on unknown rough surfaces and also easily releasable upon animal movement. How does nature design such macroscopic sized robust and releasable adhesion devices? How can an adhesion system designed for robust attachment simultaneously allow easy detachment? These questions have motivated the present investigation on mechanics of robust and releasable adhesion in biology. On the question of robust adhesion, we introduce a fractal gecko hairs model, which assumes self-similar fibrillar structures at multiple hierarchical levels mimicking gecko's spatula ultrastructure, to show that structural hierarchy plays a key role in robust adhesion: it allows the work of adhesion to be exponentially enhanced with each added level of hierarchy. We demonstrate that, barring fiber fracture, the fractal gecko hairs can be designed from nanoscale and up to achieve flaw tolerant adhesion at any length scales. However, consideration of crack-like flaws in the hairs themselves results in an upper size limit for flaw tolerant design. On the question of releasable adhesion, we hypothesize that the asymmetrically aligned seta hairs of gecko form a strongly anisotropic material with adhesion strength strongly varying with the direction of pulling. We use analytical solutions to show that a strongly anisotropic elastic solid indeed exhibits a strongly anisotropic adhesion strength when sticking on a rough surface. Furthermore, we perform finite element calculations to show that the adhesion strength of a strongly anisotropic attachment pad exhibits essentially two levels of adhesion strength depending on the direction of pulling, resulting in an orientation-controlled switch between attachment and detachment. These findings not only provide a theoretical foundation to understand adhesion mechanisms in biology but also suggest possible strategies to develop novel adhesive materials for engineering applications.  相似文献

Propagation of a semi-infinite crack along the interface between an elastic half-plane and a rigid half-plane is analyzed. The crack advances at constant subsonic speed. It is assumed that, ahead of the crack, there is a finite segment where the conditions of Coulomb friction law are satisfied. The contact zone of unknown a priori length propagates with the same speed as the crack. The problem reduces to a vector Riemann–Hilbert problem with a piece-wise constant matrix coefficient discontinuous at three points, 0, 1, and ∞. The problem is solved exactly in terms of Kummer's solutions of the associated hypergeometric differential equation. Numerical results are reported for the length of the contact friction zone, the stress singularity factor, the normal displacement u2, and the dynamic energy release rate G. It is found that in the case of frictionless contact for both the sub-Rayleigh and super-Rayleigh regimes, G is positive and the stress intensity factor KII does not vanish. In the sub-Rayleigh case, the normal displacement is positive everywhere in the opening zone. In the super-Rayleigh regime, there is a small neighborhood of the ending point of the open zone where the normal displacement is negative.  相似文献

We study the large deformation mechanics of contact and adhesion between an inflated hyperelastic membrane and a rigid substrate. The initial configuration of the membrane is flat and circular and is clamped at the edge. Two types of friction conditions between the membrane and the substrate are considered: frictionless and no-slip contact. We derive an exact expression for the energy release rate in terms of local variables at the contact edge, thus linking adhesion to the contact angle. Our model can account for the effects of fluid pressure for experiments performed in solution. We also extend our formulation to include surface tension. Numerical simulations for a neo-Hookean membrane are carried out to study the relation between applied pressure and contact area.  相似文献
