The energy flux integral and the energy-momentum tensor for studying the crack driving force in electroelastodynamic fracture are formulated within the framework of the nonlinear theory of coupled electric, thermal and mechanical fields based on fundamental principles of thermodynamics. This formulation lays a foundation for in-depth understanding of the fracture behavior of piezoelectric materials. Remarkably, the dynamic energy release rate thus obtained has an odd dependence on the electric displacement intensity factor for steady-state propagation of a conventional (unelectroded) crack with exact, electrically permeable, semi-permeable, or impermeable crack surface condition, which is in agreement with experimental evidence.  相似文献

A configurational force approach is developed for providing a fresh look onto classical aspects of thermomechanical fracture. The theoretical framework is based on the finite deformation and makes no restrictions on the material response. The integral form of configurational force balance at the crack tip is constructed, and the concentrated configurational body force is decomposed into the inertial and internal parts. The energy release rate is evaluated through the generalized second law of thermodynamics applicable to configurational force system. The theoretical investigation shows that the negative of the projection of the internal configurational force concentrated at the crack tip along the direction of crack propagation plays the role of the energy release rate and acts directly in response to crack propagation. This finding enables us to deal with the thermomechanical fracture problems in material space.  相似文献

The transient response of a Mode-III crack propagating in a magneto-electro-elastic solid subjected to mixed loads is investigated through solving the corresponding boundary-initial-value problem in both the cracked solid region and the interior fluid region with treatment of electro-magnetically permeable and impermeable crack face conditions in a unified way. The closed-form results for the dynamic field intensity factors are used to evaluate the dynamic energy release rate through the crack-tip dynamic contour integral. The permeability of the interior fluid region relative to the cracked solid region significantly affects the magneto-electro-mechanical coupling coefficient in the Bleustein–Gulyaev wave function and, consequently, the horizontal shear surface wave speed, the dynamic field intensity factors and the dynamic energy release rate. It is revealed from dynamic fracture mechanics analysis that the dynamic energy release rate thus obtained has an odd dependence on the dynamic electric displacement intensity factor and the dynamic magnetic induction intensity factor. It is also found that the horizontal shear surface wave speed provides the limiting velocity for the propagation of a Mode-III crack in a magneto-electro-elastic solid when there is only applied traction loading.  相似文献

An expression for the dynamic energy release rate of a spreading circular fracture pattern in an uniformly stretched plate is derived from a path-independent energy integral. This is equivalent to the energy dissipated in an incremental growth of a constant velocity circular locus in which the radial tension is zero. The relationship to rapid fracture and multiple crack division becomes apparent as the arc distance separating adjacent crack tips becomes small relative to the radius of the circular locus. The condition at some small fixed distance behind the closely spaced crack tips is then well-stimulated by that of zero radial tension on a circular locus. Experiments could be carried out to establish the accuracy of the analytical dynamic energy release rate expression for multiple crack division.  相似文献

Fracture of piezoelectromagnetic materials   总被引:12,自引:0,他引:12
The crack problem in a medium possessing coupled piezoelectric, piezomagnetic and magnetoelectric effects is considered. A conservative integral is derived based on the governing equations for magnetoelectroelastic media. Closed-form solution is obtained for an anti-plane crack in an infinite medium. The conservative integral is used to obtain the path-independent integral near the crack tip. Expressions for stresses, electric displacements and magnetic inductions in the vicinity of a crack tip are derived. It is found that the path-independent integral around the crack tip equals the energy release rate. In the absence of applied mechanical loads, the energy release rate is always negative.  相似文献

This paper has twofold aims. One is to study the dynamic response of a magnetoelectroelastic half-space with functionally graded coating containing crack at the interface when subjected to sudden impacts. Two different loading positions, where the material and crack surfaces are loaded respectively, are considered. By using the integral transform method, the problem is reduced to solving singular integral equations. Obtained numerical results show that the overshoots of dynamic fracture parameters are strongly amplified or reduced depending on negative or positive gradient, respectively for the case of the material surface being loaded suddenly. This implies that a functionally graded coating with a positive gradient index is preferable in engineering design due to its capability of preventing the structure from cracking. The second objective is to give a comparison of relevant dynamic parameters such as the intensity factors of stress and strain, energy release rate, and energy density factor, and their features are elucidated under dynamic combined loadings. It indicates that the strain intensity factor can overcome the drawbacks of the rest parameters, and may be chosen as an effective fracture parameter, while three others cannot be adopted as fracture criteria to describe the feature of onset of crack growth.  相似文献

The dynamic theory of antiplane piezoelectricity is applied to solve the problem of a line crack subjected to horizontally polarized shear waves in an arbitrary direction. The problem is formulated by means of integral transforms and reduced to the solution of a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. The path-independent integral G is extended here to include piezoelectric effects, and is evaluated at the crack tip to obtain the dynamic energy release rate. Numerical calculations are carried out for the dynamic stress intensity factor and energy release rate. The material is piezoelectric ceramic.  相似文献

In this paper the dynamic anti-plane problem for a functionally graded magneto-electro-elastic plate containing an internal or an edge crack parallel to the graded direction is investigated. The crack is assumed to be magneto-electrically impermeable. Integral transforms and dislocation density functions are employed to reduce the problem to Cauchy singular integral equations. Field intensity factors and energy release rate are derived, analyzed and partially calculated numerically. The effects of material graded index, loading combination parameter (including size and direction) and geometry criterion of the plate on the dynamic energy release rate are shown graphically. Numerical results indicate that increasing the graded index can all retard the crack extension, and that both the applied magnetic field loadings and electric field loadings play a dominant role in the dynamic fracture behaviors of crack tips.  相似文献

Summary  The steady-state of a propagation eccentric crack in a piezoelectric ceramic strip bonded between two elastic materials under combined anti-plane mechanical shear and in-plane electrical loadings is considered in this paper. The analysis based on the integral transform approach is conducted on the permeable crack condition. Field intensity factors and energy release rate are obtained in terms of a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. It is shown for this geometry that the crack propagation speed has influence on the dynamic energy release rate. The initial crack branching angle for a PZT-5H piezoceramic structure is predicted by the maximum energy release rate criterion. Summary  The dynamic response of an interface crack between two dissimilar piezoelectric layers subjected to mechanical and electrical impacts is investigated under the boundary condition of electrical insulation on the crack surface by using the integral transform and the Cauchy singular integral equation methods. The dynamic stress intensity factors, the dynamic electrical displacement intensity factor, and the dynamic energy release rate (DERR) are determined. The numerical calculation of the mode-I plane problem indicates that the DERR is more liable to be the token of the crack growth when an electrical load is applied. The dynamic response shows a significant dependence on the loading mode, the material combination parameters as well as the crack configuration. Under a given loading mode and a specified crack configuration, the DERR of an interface crack between piezoelectric media may be decreased or increased by adjusting the material combination parameters. It is also found that the intrinsic mechanical-electrical coupling plays a more significant role in the dynamic fracture response of in-plane problems than that in anti-plane problems. In this paper the anti-plane problem for an interface crack between two dissimilar magneto-electro-elastic plates subjected to anti-plane mechanical and in-plane magneto-electrical loads is investigated. The interface crack is assumed to be either magneto-electrically impermeable or permeable, and the position of the interface crack is arbitrary. The finite Fourier transform method is employed to reduce the mixed boundary-value problem to triple trigonometric series equations. The dislocation density functions and proper replacement of the variables are introduced to reduce these series equations to a standard Cauchy singular integral equation of the first kind. The resulting integral equation together with the corresponding single-valued condition is approximated as a system of linear algebra equations which can be easily solved. Field intensity factors and energy release rates are determined numerically and discussed in detail. Numerical results show the effects of crack configuration and loading combination parameters on the fracture behaviors of crack tips according to energy release rate criterion. The study of this problem is expected to have applications to the investigation of dynamic fracture properties of magneto-electro-elastic materials with cracks.  相似文献

The torsional impact response of a penny-shaped crack in a nonhomogeneous strip is considered. The shear modulus is assumed to be functionally graded such that the mathematics is tractable. Laplace and Hankel transforms were used to reduce the problem to solving a Fredholm integral equation. The crack tip stress field is obtained by considering the asymptotic behavior of Bessel function. Explicit expressions of both the dynamic stress intensity factor and the energy density factor were derived. And it is shown that, as crack driving force, they are equivalent for the present crack problem. Investigated are the effects of material nonhomogeneity and strip‘s highness on the dynamic fracture behavior.Numerical results reveal that the peak of the dynamic stress intensity factor can be suppressed by increasing the nonhomogeneity parameter of the shear modulus, and that the dynamic behavior varies little with the adjusting of the strip‘ s highness.  相似文献

The dynamic behavior of a limited-permeable rectangular crack in a transversely isotropic piezoelectric material is impinged by to a P-wave. The generalized Almansi theorem and the Schmidt method are used to determine the stress intensity factor and energy density factor as the primary fracture criterion of failure. The mixed boundary value problem entails the evaluation of the appropriate crack edge stress singularities that are characteristics of the fundamental functions. The stress and electric displacement intensity factors are also used to find the energy release rate that can be computed numerically and compared with the results corresponding to those of the stress intensity factor, and energy density factor. Graphical presentation shows that the energy release rate is always negative for the boundary conditions considered while the energy density factors always remain positive. Under certain conditions, the stress and electric displacement intensity factors can be negative and subject to physical limitations. Piezoelectric material boundary value problem solutions should therefore be qualified by the application of failure criteria by fracture of otherwise, particularly when the mechanical and electrical energy can release by creating free surface at the macroscopic and microscopic scales. Negative energy release rate found for the piezoelectric medium in this work can be a case in point.Positive definiteness of the energy density factor can be applied to mutliscale fracture. This is not true for the stress intensity factor nor the energy release rate. Hence, crack initiation behavior for the permittivity of a rectangular crack due to the wave propagation effects may be studied. In particular, the initiation of micro-cracks may be identified with certain critical stress wave frequency band. Negative stress intensity factor may not enhance macrocracking but it does not exclude microcrack initiation.  相似文献

Solution of Cauchy-type singular integral equations permits the evaluation of the fracture parameters at the crack tips very accurately. However, it does not permit the determination of the crack opening and sliding displacements while ensuring no crack surface interpenetration unless the location of the contact zone is known a priori. In order to circumvent this shortcoming, this study presents a solution method based on the Hadamard-type singular integral equations to obtain the crack opening and sliding displacements directly while enforcing the appropriate conditions to prevent interpenetration. Furthermore, the crack opening displacements are physically more meaningful and readily validated against the finite element analysis predictions. The numerical solutions of the hypersingular integral equations provide not only crack opening and sliding displacements directly but also the stress intensity factors and energy release rates. Also, the behavior of the energy release rate is examined as the cohesive crack located parallel to the interface approaches the interface from either the soft or the stiff side of the interface. The limiting value of the energy release rate is established by considering an interface crack. As the cohesive crack approaches the interface from either side of the interface, the energy release rate approaches to that of the interface crack. However, the length of contact zone between the cohesive crack surfaces under uniform shear loading does not approach to that of the interface crack.  相似文献

The purpose of this work is to investigate the dynamic fracture properties of glassy polycarbonate (PC) with different aging times. The optical method of caustics is adopted in which the shadow spot patterns are recorded by a high speed camera during the dynamic fracture process. Then, the dynamic crack propagation, the stress intensity factor (SIF) and the dynamic fracture toughness of aged PC are obtained through an analysis of the characteristic size of caustic pattern. Moreover, by combining with the investigation of the fracture surface and the energy release rate analysis, the influence of aging time on the dynamic fracture behavior is discussed. Results show that the dynamic fracture toughness and critical energy release rate of PC decreases with aging time for short aging times, whereas they have little change or even increase for longer aging times. Therefore, aging modifies the mechanical properties especially the dynamic fracture properties of PC nonlinearly, not linearly as generally thought of.  相似文献
