In this paper, the author proves the global structure stability of the Lax's Riemann solution , containing only shocks and contact discontinuities, of general n×n quasilinear hyperbolic system of conservation laws. More precisely, the author proves the global existence and uniqueness of the piecewise C1 solution u=u(t,x) of a class of generalized Riemann problem, which can be regarded as a perturbation of the corresponding Riemann problem, for the quasilinear hyperbolic system of conservation laws; moreover, this solution has a global structure similar to that of the solution . Combining the results in Kong (Global structure instability of Riemann solutions of quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws: rarefaction waves, to appear), the author proves that the Lax's Riemann solution of general n×n quasilinear hyperbolic system of conservation laws is globally structurally stable if and only if it contains only non-degenerate shocks and contact discontinuities, but no rarefaction waves and other weak discontinuities.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the equationu tt +u xxxx =0 for a vibrating rod supported at its end-points. We study the problem of determining the shape of the rod,u(·,0), knowingu(·,T). We see that the solution is unique ifT belongs to a certain dense subsetS of (0,+∞). IfT belongs toS, u(·,0) does not depend continuously onu(·,T). In this case, with the assumption of a bounded initial energy of the rod, we get stability estimates foru(·,0).  相似文献

We investigate a general mechanism, utilizing nonclassical shock waves, for nonuniqueness of solutions of Riemann initial-value problems for systems of two conservation laws. This nonuniqueness occurs whenever there exists a pair of viscous shock waves forming a 2-cycle, i.e., two statesU 1 andU 2 such that a traveling wave leads fromU 1 toU 2 and another leads fromU 2 toU 1. We prove that a 2-cycle gives rise to an open region of Riemann data for which there exist multiple solutions of the Riemann problem, and we determine all solutions within a certain class. We also present results from numerical experiments that illustrate how these solutions arise in the time-asymptotic limit of solutions of the conservation laws, as augmented by viscosity terms.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the so-called p-system with linear damping, and we will prove an optimal decay estimates without any smallness conditions on the initial error. More precisely, if we restrict the initial data (V0,U0) in the space H3(R+)∩L1,γ(R+H2(R+)∩L1,γ(R+), then we can derive faster decay estimates than those given in [P. Marcati, M. Mei, B. We study the singular structure of a family of two dimensional non-self-similar global solutions and their interactions for quasilinear hyperbolic conservation laws. For the case when the initial discontinuity happens only on two disjoint unit circles and the initial data are two different constant states, global solutions are constructed and some new phenomena are discovered. In the analysis, we first construct the solution for 0 ≤ t T~*.Then, when T~*≤ t T′, we get a new shock wave between two rarefactions, and then, when t T′,another shock wave between two shock waves occurs. Finally, we give the large time behavior of the solution when t →∞. The technique does not involve dimensional reduction or coordinate transformation.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the mixed problem for the equation u tt  + A 1 uA 2(u t ) + g(u t ) = f(x, t) in unbounded domain, where A 1 is a linear elliptic operator of the fourth order and A 2 is a nonlinear elliptic operator of the second order. Under natural assumptions on the equation coefficients and f we proof existence of a solution. This result contains, as a special case, some of known before theorems of existence. Essentially, in difference up to previous results we prove theorems of existence without the additional assumption on behavior of solution at infinity.   相似文献

This work is a continuation of our previous work (Kong, J. Differential Equations 188 (2003) 242-271) “Global structure stability of Riemann solutions of quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws: shocks and contact discontinuities”. In the present paper we prove the global structure instability of the Lax's Riemann solution , containing rarefaction waves, of general n×n quasilinear hyperbolic system of conservation laws. Combining the results in (Kong, 2003), we prove that the Lax's Riemann solution of general n×n quasilinear hyperbolic system of conservation laws is globally structurally stable if and only if it contains only non-degenerate shocks and contact discontinuities, but no rarefaction waves and other weak discontinuities.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the Dirichlet problem for the stationary Schrödinger equation in a cone with continuous boundary data. For a solution u of the stationary Schrödinger equation in a cone, we prove that if its positive part u+ satisfying a slowly growing condition, then its negative part u? can also be dominated by a similar slowly growing condition. In this paper, we consider the Riemann problem and interaction of elementary waves for a nonlinear hyperbolic system of conservation laws that arises in shallow water theory. This class of equations includes as a special case the equations of classical shallow water equations. We study the bore and dilatation waves and their properties, and show the existence and uniqueness of the solution to the Riemann problem. Towards the end, we discuss numerical results for different initial data along with all possible interactions of elementary waves. It is noticed that in contrast to the p -system, the Riemann problem is solvable for arbitrary initial data, and its solution does not contain vacuum state.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the asymptotic behavior of solutions for anisotropic conservation laws in two-dimensional space, provided with step-like initial conditions that approach the constant states u± (u<u+) as x→±, respectively. It shows that there is a global classical solution that converges toward the rarefaction wave, ie, the unique entropy solution of the Riemann problem for the nonviscous Burgers' equation in one-dimensional space.  相似文献

We study viscous shock waves that are associated with a simple mode (λ,r)(λ,r) of a system ut+f(u)x=uxxut+f(u)x=uxx of conservation laws and that connect states on either side of an ‘inflection’ hypersurface Σ   in state space at whose points r⋅∇λ=0rλ=0 and (r⋅∇)2λ≠0(r)2λ0. Such loss of genuine nonlinearity, the simplest example of which is the cubic scalar conservation law ut+(u3)x=uxxut+(u3)x=uxx, occurs in many physical systems. We show that such shock waves are spectrally stable if their amplitude is sufficiently small. The proof is based on a direct analysis of the eigenvalue problem by means of geometric singular perturbation theory. Well-chosen rescalings are crucial for resolving degeneracies. By results of Zumbrun the spectral stability shown here implies nonlinear stability of these shock waves.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the existence of global weak solutions to the Cauchy problem of a modified two‐component Camassa‐Holm equation with the initial data satisfying limx → ±∞u0(x) = u±. By perturbing the Cauchy problem around a rarefaction wave, we obtain a global weak solution for the system under the assumption u?u+. The global weak solution is obtained as a limit of approximation solutions. In this paper we prove that the initial-boundary value problem for the nonlinear evolution equation ut = △u + λu - u^3 possesses a global attractor in Sobolev space H^k for all k≥0, which attracts any bounded domain of H^k(Ω) in the H^k-norm. This result is established by using an iteration technique and regularity estimates for linear semigroup of operator, which extends the classical result from the case k ∈ [0, 1] to the case k∈ [0, ∞).  相似文献

The introductory part of this paper contains an overview of known results about elementary and delta shock solutions to Riemann problem for well known Chaplygin gas model (nowadays used in cosmological theories for dark energy) in terms of entropic shadow waves. Shadow waves are introduced in [17] and they are represented by shocks depending on a small parameter ε with unbounded amplitudes having a distributional limit involving the Dirac delta function. In a search for admissible solutions to all possible cases of mutual interactions of waves arising from double Riemann initial data we found same cases that cannot be resolved with already known types of elementary or shadow wave solutions. These cases are resolved by introducing a sequence of higher order shadow waves depending on integer powers of ε. It is shown that such waves have a distributional limit but only until some finite time T.  相似文献

This work is a continuation of our previous work. In the present paper, we study the existence and uniqueness of global piecewise C1 solutions with shock waves to the generalized Riemann problem for general quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws with linear damping in the presence of a boundary. It is shown that the generalized Riemann problem for general quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws with linear damping with nonlinear boundary conditions in the half space {(t, x) | t ≥ 0, x ≥ 0} admits a unique global piecewise C1 solution u = u (t, x) containing only shock waves with small amplitude and this solution possesses a global structure similar to that of a self‐similar solution u = U (x /t) of the corresponding homogeneous Riemann problem, if each characteristic field with positive velocity is genuinely nonlinear and the corresponding homogeneous Riemann problem has only shock waves but no rarefaction waves and contact discontinuities. This result is also applied to shock reflection for the flow equations of a model class of fluids with viscosity induced by fading memory. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
