Classification of commutative association schemes with almost commutative Terwilliger algebras

We classify the commutative association schemes such that all non-primary irreducible modules of their Terwilliger algebras are one-dimensional.     

The nonexistence of sensitive commutative group actions on graphs

In this paper,we observe a special kind of continuous functions on graphs.By estimating the integrals of these functions,we prove that there are no sensitive commutative group actions on graphs.Furthermore,we consider a 1-dimensional continuum composed of a spiral curve and a circle and show that there exist sensitive homeomorphisms on it,which answers negatively a question proposed by Kato in 1993.

The Erdős-Szekeres theorem and congruences

The following problem of combinatorial geometry is considered. Given positive integers n and q, find or estimate a minimal number h for which any set of h points in general position in the plane contains n vertices of a convex polygon for which the number of interior points is divisible by q. For a wide range of parameters, the existing bound for h is dramatically improved.     

A Mal’tsev basis for a partially commutative nilpotent metabelian group

We find a canonical representation for elements of a partially commutative group in a variety of soluble groups of derived length two and nilpotency class at most c ≥ 1.     

Exterior Differential Systems Prolongations and Application to a Study of Two Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations

A generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation is formulated as an exterior differential system, which is used to determine the prolongation structure of the equation. The prolongation structure is obtained for several cases of the variable powers, and nontrivial algebras are determined. The analysis is extended to a differential system which gives the Camassa-Holm equation as a particular case. The subject of conservation laws is briefly discussed for each of the equations. A Bäcklund transformation is determined using one of the prolongations.     

The centers of spin symmetric group algebras and Catalan numbers

Generalizing the work of Farahat-Higman on symmetric groups, we describe the structures of the even centers of integral spin symmetric group superalgebras, which lead to universal algebras termed as the spin FH-algebras. A connection between the odd Jucys-Murphy elements and the Catalan numbers is developed and then used to determine the algebra generators of the spin FH-algebras and of the even centers .     

Infinite families of strange partition congruences for broken 2-diamonds

In 2007, George E. Andrews and Peter Paule (Acta Arithmetica 126:281–294, 2007) introduced a new class of combinatorial objects called broken k-diamonds. Their generating functions connect to modular forms and give rise to a variety of partition congruences. In 2008, Song Heng Chan proved the first infinite family of congruences when k=2. In this note, we present two non-standard infinite families of broken 2-diamond congruences derived from work of Oliver Atkin and Morris Newman. In addition, four conjectures related to k=3 and k=5 are stated.     

Two queues with vastly different arrival rates and processor-sharing factors

We consider a 2-class queueing system, operating under a generalized processor-sharing discipline. The arrival rate to the secondary queue is much smaller than that to the primary queue, while the exponentially distributed service requirements have comparable parameters. The primary queue is assumed to be heavily loaded, so the processor-sharing factor for the secondary queue is assumed to be relatively small. We use singular perturbation analyses in a small parameter measuring the ratio of arrival rates, and the closeness of the system to instability. Two different regimes are analyzed, corresponding to a heavily loaded and a lightly loaded secondary queue, respectively. With suitable scaling of variables, lowest order asymptotic approximations to the joint stationary distribution of the numbers of jobs in the two queues are derived, as well as to the marginal distributions.     

An abstract characterization of Thompson’s group F

We show that Thompson’s group F is the symmetry group of the ‘generic idempotent’. That is, take the monoidal category freely generated by an object A and an isomorphism A ? A→A; then F is the group of automorphisms of A.     

The computation and perturbation analysis for weighted group inverse of rectangular matrices

Cen (Math. Numer. Sin. 29(1):39–48, 2007) has defined a weighted group inverse of rectangular matrices. Let A∈C ^m×n ,W∈C ^n×m , if X∈C ^m×n satisfies the system of matrix equations $$(W_{1})\quad AWXWA=A,\quad\quad (W_{2})\quad XWAWX=X,\quad\quad (W_{3})\quad AWX=XWA$$ X is called the weighted group inverse of A with W, and denoted by A _W ^# . In this paper, we will study the algebra perturbation and analytical perturbation of this kind weighted group inverse A _W ^# . Under some conditions, we give a decomposition of B _W ^# ?A _W ^# . As a results, norm estimate of ‖B _W ^# ?A _W ^# ‖ is presented (where B=A+E). An expression of algebra of perturbation is also obtained. In order to compute this weighted group inverse with ease, we give a new representation of this inverse base on Gauss-elimination, then we can calculate this weighted inverse by Gauss-elimination. In the end, we use a numerical example to show our results.     

Variation homological diagrams,¶and corner singularities

We describe the general homological framework (the variation arrays and variation homological diagrams) in which can be studied hypersurface isolated singularities as well as boundary singularities and corner singularities from the point of view of duality. We then show that any corner singularity is extension, in a sense which is defined, of the corner singularities of less dimension on which it is built. This framework is also used to rewrite Thom–Sebastiani type properties for isolated singularities and to establish them for boundary singularities. Mixed Type Multiple Orthogonal Polynomials for Two Nikishin Systems

We study the logarithmic and ratio asymptotics of linear forms constructed from a Nikishin system which satisfy orthogonality conditions with respect to a system of measures generated by a second Nikishin system. This construction combines type I and type II multiple orthogonal polynomials. The logarithmic asymptotics of the linear forms is expressed in terms of the extremal solution of an associated vector valued equilibrium problem for the logarithmic potential. The ratio asymptotics is described by means of a conformal representation of an appropriate Riemann surface of genus zero onto the extended complex plane.     

Normalizer of a group of “diagonal” automorphisms in algebras over a commutative ring

Let S be a faithful algebra over commutative ring R. It is assumed that S is additively generated by its invertible elements. It is shown that the nomalizer of subgroup Aut(S_s) of group Aut(S_R) coincides with the semidirect product Aut(S_S) Aut(S/R),where the second factor is the group of all ring automorphisms of ring S identical on R.Translated from Zapiski Nauchnykh Seminarov Leningradskogo Otdeleniya Matematicheskogo Instituta im.
