Many examples of compact fuzzy topological spaces which are highly non topological are known [5, 6]. Equally many examples of Hausdorff fuzzy topological spaces which are highly non topological can be given. In this paper we show that the two properties - compact and Hausdorff - combined however necessarily imply that the fuzzy topological space is topological. This at once solves some open questions with regard to the compactification of fuzzy topological spaces [8]. It also emphasizes once more the particular role played by compact Hausdorff topological spaces not only in the category of topological spaces but even in the category of fuzzy topological spaces.  相似文献

Suppose that X is a topological space with preorder , and that –g, f are bounded upper semicontinuous functions on X such that g(x) f(y) whenever x y. We consider the question whether there exists a bounded increasing continuous function h on X such that g h f, and obtain an existence theorem that gives necessary and sufficient conditions. This result leads to an extension theorem giving conditions that allow a bounded increasing continuous function defined on an open subset of X to be extended to a function of the same type on X. The application of these results to extremally disconnected locally compact spaces is studied.Received: 26 May 2004  相似文献

Considering subobjects, points and a closure operator in an abstract category, we introduce a generalization of the Hausdorff separation axiom for topological spaces: the notion ofT 2-object. We discuss the properties ofT 2-objects, which depend essentially on the behaviour of points, and finally we relate them to the well-known separated objects. The results of this paper are essentially taken from the author's Ph. D. Thesis written under the supervision of Professors M. Sobral and W. Tholen and partially supported by a scholarship of I.N.I.C.-Instituto Nacional de Investigação Científica.  相似文献

We study CLP-compact spaces (every cover consisting of clopen sets has a finite subcover) and CLP-compact topological groups. In particular, we extend a theorem on CLP-compactness of products from [J. Steprāns, A. Šostak, Restricted compactness properties and their preservation under products, Topology Appl. 101 (3) (2000) 213-229] and we offer various criteria for CLP-compactness for spaces and topological groups, that work particularly well for precompact groups. This allows us to show that arbitrary products of CLP-compact pseudocompact groups are CLP-compact. For every natural n we construct:
(i)
a totally disconnected, n-dimensional, pseudocompact CLP-compact group; and
(ii)
a hereditarily disconnected, n-dimensional, totally minimal, CLP-compact group that can be chosen to be either separable metrizable or pseudocompact (a Hausdorff group G is totally minimal when all continuous surjective homomorphisms GH, with a Hausdorff group H, are open).

We prove that a connected topological space with endpoints has exactly two non-cut points and every cut point is a strong cut point; it follows that such a space is a COTS and the only two non-cut points turn out to be endpoints (in each of the two orders) of the COTS. A non-indiscrete connected topological space with exactly two non-cut points and having only finitely many closed points is proved homeomorphic to a finite subspace of the Khalimsky line. Further, it is shown, without assuming any separation axiom, that in a connected and locally connected topological space X, for a, b in X, S[a,b] is compact whenever it is closed. Using this result we show that an H(i) connected and locally connected topological space with exactly two non-cut points is a compact COTS with end points.  相似文献

We furnish characterizations of topologies that coincide with the lower topology or with the order topology of some total preorder defined on a set. Leaning on these characterizations we introduce some applications to the study of continuous and semicontinuous order-representability properties of topological spaces.  相似文献

We prove that every H(i) subset H of a connected space X such that there is no proper connected subset of X containing H, contains at least two non-cut points of X. This is used to prove that a connected space X is a COTS with endpoints if and only if X has at most two non-cut points and has an H(i) subset H such that there is no proper connected subset of X containing H. Also we obtain some other characterizations of COTS with endpoints and some characterizations of the closed unit interval.  相似文献

In 1951 Ernest Michael wrote a definitive seminal article on hyperspaces [E. Michael, Topologies on spaces of subsets, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 71 (1951) 152-182] raising a general question that became known as Michael's selection problem for hyperspaces. The present paper contains a detailed discussion on particular aspects of this problem, also some further open questions.  相似文献

In this note, some problems concerning existence of maximal elements in a topological as well as in a generalized metric space, equipped with an ordering, are studied. The results presented here may be considered as a partial refinement of those established in [2] for uniform structures.  相似文献

The paper discusses interactions between order and topology on a given set which do not presuppose any separation conditions for either of the two structures, but which lead to the existing notions established by Nachbin in more special situations. We pursue this discussion at the much more general level of lax algebras, so that our categories do not concern just ordered topological spaces, but also sets with two interacting orders, approach spaces with an additional metric, etc.  相似文献

Completely regular ordered spaces   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We present an example of a completely regular ordered space that is not strictly completely regular ordered. Furthermore, we note that a completely regular ordered I-space is strictly completely regular ordered provided that it satisfies at least one of the following three conditions: It is locally compact, it is a C-space, it is a topological lattice.  相似文献

A notion of separation with respect to an interior operator in topology is introduced and some basic properties are presented. In particular, it is shown that this notion of separation with respect to an interior operator gives rise to a Galois connection between the collection of all subclasses of the class of topological spaces and the collection of all interior operators in topology. Characterizations of the fixed points of this Galois connection are given and examples are provided.  相似文献

In the category Haus of Hausdorff spaces the only injectives are the one-point spaces. Even though every Hausdorff spaceX has a maximal essential extension,X fails to have an injective hull, providedX has more than one point. A non-empty Hausdorff space has a proper essential extension if and only ifX is locally H-closed but not H-closed. In this case,X has (up to isomorphism) precisely one proper essential extension: the Obreanu-Porter extension (being simultaneously its maximal essential extension and its minimal H-closed extension). Completely parallel results hold for the categories SReg, Reg, and Tych of semi-regular, regular, and completely regular spaces respectively. In particular, the Alexandroff compactifications of locally compact, non-compact Hausdorff spaces are characterized categorically as the proper essential extensions of non-empty spaces in Tych (resp. Reg).Dedicated to my friend Nico Pumplün on his sixtieth birthday  相似文献

In this note we prove that every Eberlein compact linearly ordered space is metrizable. (By an Eberlein compact space we mean a topological space which can be embedded as a compact subset of a Banach space with the weak topology.)  相似文献

The paper is a contribution to quantifiability of domains. We show that every domain X, regardless of cardinality conditions for a domain bases, is quantifiable in the sense that there exists an approach structure on X (Lowen (1997) [9]), defined by means of a gauge of quasi metrics, inducing the Scott topology. We get weightability for free and in the case of an algebraic domain satisfying the Lawson condition (Lawson (1997) [8]), a quantifying approach space can be obtained with a weight satisfying the kernel condition.  相似文献

Full subcategories C ? Top of the category of topological spaces, which are algebraic over Set in the sense of Herrlich [2], have pleasant separation properties, mostly subject to additional closedness assumptions. For instance, every C-object is a T1-space, if the two-element discrete space belongs to C. Moreover, if C is closed under the formation of finite powers in Top and even varietal [2], then every C-object is Hausdorff. Hence, the T2-axiom turns out to be (nearly) superfluous in Herrlich's and Strecker's characterization of the category of compact Hausdorff spaces [1], although it is essential for the proof. If we think of C-objects X as universal algebras (with possibly infinite operations), then the subalgebras of X form the closed sets of a compact topology on X, provided that the ordinal spaces [0, β] belong to C. This generalizes a result in [3]. The subalgebra topology is used to prove criterions for the Hausdorffness of every space in C, if C is only algebraic.  相似文献

A space is defined to be suborderable if it is embeddable in a (totally) orderable space. The length of a scattered space X is the least ordinal a such that X(a), the ath derived set of X, is empty. It is shown that a suborderable scattered space of countable length is hereditarily paracompact, orderable, and admits an orderable scattered compactification.  相似文献

In this paper we answer the question of T. Banakh and M. Zarichnyi constructing a copy of the Fréchet-Urysohn fan Sω in a topological group G admitting a functorial embedding [0,1]⊂G. The latter means that each autohomeomorphism of [0,1] extends to a continuous homomorphism of G. This implies that many natural free topological group constructions (e.g. the constructions of the Markov free topological group, free abelian topological group, free totally bounded group, free compact group) applied to a Tychonov space X containing a topological copy of the space Q of rationals give topological groups containing Sω.  相似文献
