In this study, the design of a polarization-independent (dual-polarization) waveguide is presented by utilizing surface modes of photonic crystals. The waveguide structure operates in a frequency interval that is commonly shared by both transverse-electric (TE) and transverse-magnetic (TM) polarizations. The numerical calculations based on plane wave expansion and finite-difference time-domain methods are carried out to design and demonstrate a surface mode waveguide that provides confinement and guiding for both TE and TM modes. Once the relevant modes are properly excited, the high transmission efficiency of the photonic crystal surface waveguide is ensured. The demand to have polarization-insensitive devices makes our proposed design an important component for the photonic integrated circuit applications. Finally, we also propose a broadband surface mode photonic crystal waveguide with a bandwidth value of 28% for only TE polarization.  相似文献

利用真空溅射法在一片亚毫米尺度的光学玻璃平板两面分别镀上不同厚度的金属薄膜,构成一种超厚的双面金属包覆波导。采用自由空间耦合技术实现了这种波导中超高阶导模的激发。由于超高阶导模具有对波长特别灵敏而对偏振不灵敏的特殊性质,以此为基础,在实验中演示了可调谐、偏振不灵敏、低损耗(小于0.5 dB)的超窄带(小于0.08 nm)和梳状滤波(通道间隔为100 GHz)。  相似文献

An integrated diffractive optical mode converter, which can be integrated into planar lightwave circuits (PLCs), consisting of a diffractive optical element (DOE) and a slab waveguide is presented for fiber-to-waveguide coupling. The DOE is designed using iterative phase retrieval algorithm. In the iterative algorithm, we introduce a new modification of far-field amplitude constraint to provide very high mode conversion quality. Compared with previously published mode converters, the scheme is more universal because it is applicable for any waveguide structure. In simulation, coupling losses lower than 0.12 dB have been reached for all the discussed waveguides. The converter is shown to be polarization-insensitive and applicable in multi-wavelength PLCs. And the tolerance on axis misalignment has been investigated.  相似文献

We propose a very short vertical directional coupler with polarization-insensitive high extinction ratios. The structure of the coupler has two deep-ridge waveguide structures in the upper and lower parts which can be implemented using a double-sided wafer process. The coupling length and extinction ratios of the vertical directional coupler with symmetric structures decrease as the thicknesses of the inner cladding layer and core layer decrease. The extinction ratio is improved using a slight asymmetry in the refractive indices of two core layers. As the thicknesses of the inner cladding layer and core layer decrease, the length of the vertical directional coupler for extinction ratios greater than 30 dB of both TE and TM modes decreases. A vertical directional coupler with a very short length less than 100 μm and polarization-insensitive high extinction ratios greater than 30 dB can be implemented using the structure proposed in this paper.  相似文献

We demonstrate polarization-insensitive ultralow-power second-harmonic generation frequency-resolved optical gating (FROG) measurements with a fiber-pigtailed, aperiodically poled lithium niobate waveguide. By scrambling the polarization much faster than the measurement integration time, we eliminate the impairment that frequency-independent random polarization fluctuations induce in FROG measurements. As a result we are able to retrieve intensity and phase profiles of few hundred femtosecond optical pulses with 50 MHz repetition rates at 5.2 nW coupled average power without control of the input polarization.  相似文献

We demonstrate a high-speed polarization-insensitive photoconductor based on intersecting InP nanowires synthesized between a pair of hydrogenated silicon electrodes deposited on amorphous SiO2 surfaces prepared on silicon substrates. A 14-ps full width at half maximum de-embedded impulse response is measured, which is the fastest reported response for a photodetector fabricated using nanowires. The high-speed electrical signal measurements from the photoconductor are performed by an integrated coplanar waveguide transmission line. The demonstrated ability to grow intersecting InP nanowires on hydrogenated microcrystalline Si surfaces will facilitate the construction of ultra-fast photodetectors on a wide range of substrates. 设计了一种基于超材料电磁特性的吸波体, 并将其应用于波导缝隙天线. 该吸波体是由两层金属及其中间的有耗介质组成, 上层金属是由刻蚀交叉缝隙的贴片形成的电谐振器, 下层金属不刻蚀, 作为整个金属地板. 通过优化结构参数, 得到了一种极化不敏感、宽入射角的超薄吸波体, 吸波率达到99.1%, 厚度只有约0.01λ. 将该吸波体应用与波导缝隙天线, 在5.48-5.7 GHz工作频段内, 天线雷达散射截面减缩都在3 dB以上, 在鼻锥方向的-25°-+25°范围的角度上, 天线雷达散射截面减缩均在5 dB以上, 雷达散射截面减缩最大超过12 dB, 而天线前向增益仅降低了0.53 dB. 实验结果与仿真结果符合得较好, 证实了该吸波体具有好的天线雷达散射截面减缩效果, 可以应用于天线目标的隐身.  相似文献

设计了一种基于一阶Minkowski分形双方环(Minkowski fractal double square loop, MFDSL)电谐振器结构与电阻膜复合的超薄、 宽频带、极化不敏感和宽入射角的超材料吸波体. 该吸波体的基本结构单元由MFDSL电谐振器结构、方块电阻膜、电介质基板和金属背板组成. 采用时域有限差分算法对这种复合结构吸波体的电磁波吸收特性进行数值模拟分析. 模拟得到的反射率和吸收率表明: 该吸波体在7.5-42 GHz之间对入射电磁波具有大于90%以上的强吸收特性. 模拟得到的不同极化角和不同入射角下的吸收率表明: 该吸波体具有极化不敏感和宽入射角特性. 进一步的数值模拟结果表明, 该复合结构吸波体对电磁波的吸收主要是基于电磁谐振和电路谐振机制, 通过方块电阻的设计可以实现工作频率范围的调节. 关键词: 电阻膜 分形频率选择表面 宽频带吸收  相似文献

对基于级联和频差频非线性效应铌酸锂光波导新型全光波长转换器进行了理论研究。这种新型波长变换器需要两束抽运光源,它将输入的抽运光波长置于信号光波段窗口的两边,抽运光波长与信号光波长相近容易实现最佳耦合又不会占用信号波段,而且具有偏振不敏感的优点。从建立级联和频差频铌酸锂光波导全光波长转换器的理论模型出发,给出了波导中光相互作用的耦合模方程;利用逐步法详细推导了耦合模方程的解,得出了物理意义清晰的转换光功率表达式,分析了非线性晶体相互作用长度、抽运光功率对转换效率的影响,为级联和频差频铌酸锂光波导全光波长转换器优化设计提供了理论依据。  相似文献

A low-frequency wideband, polarization-insensitive and wide-angle metamaterial absorber (MA) is designed, simulated and analyzed. This MA consists of a periodic arrangement of a cave-disk resonator (CDR), square resistive film (RF), and metal ground plane (GP) (a 0.8 mm-thick FR-4 dielectric spacer is sandwiched in between the CDR and RF, and another 1.2-mm thick FR-4 dielectric spacer is inserted in between the RF and GP). The simulated results based on finite integration technology (FIT) indicate that the absorption of the MA is greater than 90% and almost perfectly impedance- matched to the free space in the whole frequency range of 1 GHz-7 GHz. The simulated absorptions under the conditions of different polarization and incident angles indicate that this composite structure absorber is polarization-insensitive and wide-angled. Furthermore, the distribution of the power loss density indicates that the wideband absorptivity is mainly from the composite electromagnetic loss of the CDR and RF. This design provides an effective and feasible way to construct a low-frequency wideband absorber.  相似文献

We present a design for a planar guided-wave polarization-insensitive (intensity-based) optoelectronics module that provides a parallel perfect-match search for database and text processing. The module is based on a content-addressable memory model for parallel information retrieval. We propose the use of planar guided-wave optics with multiwavelength processing to achieve a substantially high degree of performance and parallelism. Based on initial performance analysis, the proposed module is capable of achieving an aggregate processing speed of 10(12) bits/s.  相似文献

We report linear polarization-insensitive detection of optical phase modulation in an adaptive interferometer based on transient two-wave mixing via dynamic population gratings in saturable Er-doped fiber (EDF). The proposed simple and robust configuration has an all-fiber design based on commercially available elements which makes it promising for applications in optical fiber interferometric sensors and coherent optical communication systems. The experimentally investigated single-mode polarization-maintaining EDF arrangement operated at 1492 nm and demonstrated efficient compensation of the polarization drifts below 100 Hz.  相似文献

High power polarization-insensitive InGaAsP-InP multiple quantum well (MQW) superluminescent diodes (SLD's) emitting at 1.3μm were investigated. A combination of tensile strained and compressively strained quantum wells called complex strained MQW were used in a single active layer in order to obtain polarization insensitivity. Low-pressure metalorganic chemical vapor phase epitaxy was used for crystal growth. High resolution X-ray diffraction and photoluminescence spectra showed excellent crystal quality. The SLD's were fabricated to ridge waveguide structure with 7° tilted cavity, the two facets were coated with two layers anti-reflection TiO2/SiO2 films, residual facet reflectivity was found to be less than 0.04%. The SLD's exhibited a up to 18.8 mW optical output power and less than 1 dB polarization dependence of output power with a less than 0.5 dB optical spectra modulation at 250 mA.  相似文献

A novel method is developed to analyze a single-mode 3-D optical waveguide based on the ray-approximation method, which we call the improved ray approximation method. The effect of the optical parameters (wavelength, refractive-index and refractive-index difference) on the optimum design is investigated for a strong single-mode 3-D optical waveguide. This is simple and effective for the optimum design of the optical waveguide using the method. This will be helpful for the design of waveguide devices.  相似文献

A procedure for the design of low-loss continuous curvature waveguide bends, for use in integrated photonic circuits, is presented. The design employs the scalar finite element method and a technique for drawing waveguide bends based on their curvature. The finite difference beam propagation method is used to determine the power lost along the length of the waveguide structures. This new method allows the design of waveguide bends with lower loss than can be obtained by conventional methods.  相似文献

基于电阻型频率选择表面(Resistance Frequency Selective Surface, RFSS) 设计了一种低频宽带、 极化不敏感和宽入射角特性的超材料吸波体. 该吸波体的基本单元由开槽十字型平面超材料(Cave Cross Planar Metamaterial, CCPM)、 RFSS、 电介质基板和金属背板组成. 采用FDTD方法数值模拟得到的结果表明: 相比于单纯的CCPM吸波体、 RFSS吸波体, CCPM和RFSS复合结构吸波体低频吸收特性得到极大改善, 在整个1-5 GHz频率范围内, 吸收率大于80%, 吸收峰值达到98%以上. 数值模拟得到的不同极化角和不同入射角下的吸收率表明: 该复合结构吸波体具有极化不敏感和宽角度吸收特性.  相似文献

本文主要分析了弯曲波导损耗机理,包括传输损耗、辐射损耗、模式转换损耗。重点综述了设计低损耗弯曲波导的方法,包括波导材料、弯曲波导的曲线形状、波导种类、脊型波导的宽度、脊高、弯曲半径、模场分布、弯曲波导曲线形状和其他新型波导结构等。简要概括了近年来设计和制备低损耗弯曲波导的代表性工作。介绍了弯曲波导在集成光学中的应用。通过对弯曲波导的损耗及耦合机制理论的不断完善,实现光在较小弯曲半径的低损耗传输,从而提高集成光学的集成度是弯曲波导今后的发展趋势。  相似文献

We design and experimentally demonstrate a broadband metamaterial absorber in the terahertz(THz) band based on a periodic array of aluminum(Al) squares with two different sizes. A thin silicon dioxide(SiO2) film rather than a conventional polyimide(PI) layer is used as a dielectric spacer to separate Al squares from the platinum(Pt) ground plane in our design, which significantly improves the design precision and the feasibility of the device fabrication. The combination of different sizes of Al squares gives rise to an absorption bandwidth of over 210 GHz with an absorption of over 90%. Our results also show that our device is almost polarization-insensitive. It works very well for all azimuthal angles with an absorption of beyond 80%.  相似文献

The design and characterization is described of a reconfigurable subwavelength waveguide based on magnetic metamaterial. The waveguide is capable of reconfiguring its propagating mode from right-handed to left-handed, which can be applied in the design of novel microwave and RF devices such as leaky wave antennas with broadened scanning range. The waveguide consists of a rectangular metallic waveguide loaded by two pieces of different magnetic metamaterials, which are structured by the same cells—modified split ring resonators (MSRRs)—with different arrangements. Positions of the two pieces of metamaterials in the waveguide can be reconfigured separately by the control mechanism. The simulated transmission data show that the waveguide has a passband below the cutoff frequency of the hollow waveguide either in the left-handed case or in the right-handed case. The extracted constitutive parameters have demonstrated that the effective permittivity and permeability of the waveguide are simultaneously negative in the left-handed case and positive in the right-handed case. The magnetic field and surface current distributions in the waveguide confirm that the waveguide operates as can be expected. The influence of the control mechanism on the performance of the waveguide is studied. It is shown that the influence is so minor that it can be neglected.  相似文献
