The synthesis and molecular structure determination of an organophosphorus carbohydrate are reported. In the solid state the molecules of methyl 4,6-O-benzylidene-3-deoxy-3-C-diphenyl-phosphinyl--D-altropyranoside are linked together by intermolecular hydrogen bonding involving the oxygen attached to phosphorus and the hydroxy group. The reaction of benzoylacetanilide with the excess of POBr3 furnished monomolecular products and the bimolecular-[N-phenyl,N-(-bromo-cinnamoyl)-amino]-cinnamanilide.
