The method of quasilinearization for nonlinear two-point boundary-value problems is Newton's method for a nonlinear differential operator equation. A model trust-region approach to globalizing the quasilinearization algorithm is presented. A double-dogleg implementation yields a globally convergent algorithm that is robust in solving difficult problems.This work was supported in part by DOE Contract DE-AS05-82-ER13016 and NSF Grant RII-89-17691 and was part of the author's doctoral thesis at Rice University. This paper discusses the fitting of differential equation models to economic data. In particular, it treats the problem of describing the growth of capital in terms of a differential equation containing several parameters. The parameters are to be estimated on the basis of data. This estimation problem is formulated as a nonlinear boundary value problem. The rapidly convergent successive approximation method of quasilinearization is described and applied. Representative results of numerical experiments are presented, showing the effectiveness of the approach. Suggestions for additional studies are made.  相似文献

A novel nonlinear Lagrangian is presented for constrained optimization problems with both inequality and equality constraints, which is nonlinear with respect to both functions in problem and Lagrange multipliers. The nonlinear Lagrangian inherits the smoothness of the objective and constraint functions and has positive properties. The algorithm on the nonlinear Lagrangian is demonstrated to possess local and linear convergence when the penalty parameter is less than a threshold (the penalty parameter in the penalty method has to approximate zero) under a set of suitable conditions, and be super-linearly convergent when the penalty parameter is decreased following Lagrange multiplier update. Furthermore, the dual problem based on the nonlinear Lagrangian is discussed and some important properties are proposed, which fail to hold for the dual problem based on the classical Lagrangian. At last, the preliminary and comparing numerical results for several typical test problems by using the new nonlinear Lagrangian algorithm and the other two related nonlinear Lagrangian algorithms, are reported, which show that the given nonlinear Lagrangian is promising.  相似文献

A new quasilinearization algorithm is presented which essentially eliminates the necessity for computer storage. The representation theorem for the standard quasilinearization procedure is reformulated in terms of the initial value of the solution to a final-value problem, leading to a modification of the successive approximations. Several theorems establishing the convergence properties are proved; as in the original procedure, these convergence properties are both quadratic and monotonic. Finally, the modified approximation scheme is illustrated through several examples.  相似文献

We present two iterative methods for solving the Falkner-Skan equation based on the quasilinearization method. We formulate the original problem as a new free boundary value problem. The truncated boundary depending on a small parameter is an unknown free boundary and has to be determined as part of solution. Using a change of variables, the free boundary value problem is transformed to a problem defined on [0, 1]. We apply the quasilinearization method to solve the resulting nonlinear problem. Then we propose two different iterative algorithms by means of a cubic spline solver. Numerical results for various instances are compared with those reported previously in the literature. The comparisons show the accuracy, robustness and efficiency of the presented methodology.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a numerical scheme using uniform Haar wavelet approximation and quasilinearization process for solving some nonlinear oscillator equations. In our proposed work, quasilinearization technique is first applied through Haar wavelets to convert a nonlinear differential equation into a set of linear algebraic equations. Finally, to demonstrate the validity of the proposed method, it has been applied on three type of nonlinear oscillators namely Duffing, Van der Pol, and Duffing–van der Pol. The obtained responses are presented graphically and compared with available numerical and analytical solutions found in the literature. The main advantage of uniform Haar wavelet series with quasilinearization process is that it captures the behavior of the nonlinear oscillators without any iteration. The numerical problems are considered with force and without force to check the efficiency and simple applicability of method on nonlinear oscillator problems.  相似文献

A novel smooth nonlinear augmented Lagrangian for solving minimax problems with inequality constraints, is proposed in this paper, which has the positive properties that the classical Lagrangian and the penalty function fail to possess. The corresponding algorithm mainly consists of minimizing the nonlinear augmented Lagrangian function and updating the Lagrange multipliers and controlling parameter. It is demonstrated that the algorithm converges Q-superlinearly when the controlling parameter is less than a threshold under the mild conditions. Furthermore, the condition number of the Hessian of the nonlinear augmented Lagrangian function is studied, which is very important for the efficiency of the algorithm. The theoretical results are validated further by the preliminary numerical experiments for several testing problems reported at last, which show that the nonlinear augmented Lagrangian is promising.  相似文献

A B-spline collocation method is presented for nonlinear singularly-perturbed boundary-value problems with mixed boundary conditions. The quasilinearization technique is used to linearize the original nonlinear singular perturbation problem into a sequence of linear singular perturbation problems. The B-spline collocation method on piecewise uniform mesh is derived for the linear case and is used to solve each linear singular perturbation problem obtained through quasilinearization. The fitted mesh technique is employed to generate a piecewise uniform mesh, condensed in the neighborhood of the boundary layers. The convergence analysis is given and the method is shown to have second-order uniform convergence. The stability of the B-spline collocation system is discussed. Numerical experiments are conducted to demonstrate the efficiency of the method.  相似文献

A numerical method based on cubic splines with nonuniform grid is given for singularly-perturbed nonlinear two-point boundary-value problems. The original nonlinear equation is linearized using quasilinearization. Difference schemes are derived for the linear case using a variable-mesh cubic spline and are used to solve each linear equation obtained via quasilinearization. Second-order uniform convergence is achieved. Numerical examples are given in support of the theoretical results.  相似文献

Methods for the solution of nonlinear boundary-value problems for ordinary differential equations are discussed and classified as either finite-difference methods or initial-value methods. Within this framework, two algorithms, which are generated using the quasilinearization method, are presented and shown to be representative of these two methods. Consequently, both of the most widely used techniques for the solution of these problems can be formulated within the framework of the quasilinearization method. The paper presents an approach to bi-level programming using a duality gap—penalty function format. A new exact penalty function exists for obtaining a global optimal solution for the linear case, and an algorithm is given for doing this, making use of some new theoretical properties. For each penalty parameter value, the central optimisation problem is one of maximising a convex function over a polytope, for which a modification of an algorithm of Tuy (1964) is used. Some numerical results are given. The approach has other features which assist the actual decisionmaking process, which make use of the natural roles of duality gaps and penalty parameters. Recent literature shows that for certain classes of fractional differential equations the monotone iterative technique fails to guarantee the quadratic convergence of the quasilinearization method. The present work proves the quadratic convergence of the quasilinearization method and the existence and uniqueness of the solution of such a class of fractional differential equations. Our analysis depends upon the classical Kantorovich theorem on Newton's method. Various examples are discussed in order to illustrate our approach.  相似文献

In this paper, modifications of the quasilinearization method with higher-order convergence for solving nonlinear differential equations are constructed. A general technique for systematically obtaining iteration schemes of order m (?>?2) for finding solutions of highly nonlinear differential equations is developed. The proposed iterative schemes have convergence rates of cubic, quartic and quintic orders. These schemes were further applied to bifurcation problems and to obtain critical parameter values for the existence and uniqueness of solutions. The accuracy and validity of the new schemes is tested by finding accurate solutions of the one-dimensional Bratu and Frank-Kamenetzkii equations.  相似文献

This paper presents a new approach for solving accurate approximate analytical higher-order solutions for strong nonlinear Duffing oscillators with cubic–quintic nonlinear restoring force. The system is conservative and with odd nonlinearity. The new approach couples Newton’s method with harmonic balancing. Unlike the classical harmonic balance method, accurate analytical approximate solutions are possible because linearization of the governing differential equation by Newton’s method is conducted prior to harmonic balancing. The approach yields simple linear algebraic equations instead of nonlinear algebraic equations without analytical solution. Using the approach, accurate higher-order approximate analytical expressions for period and periodic solution are established. These approximate solutions are valid for small as well as large amplitudes of oscillation. In addition, it is not restricted to the presence of a small parameter such as in the classical perturbation method. Illustrative examples are presented to verify accuracy and explicitness of the approximate solutions. The effect of strong quintic nonlinearity on accuracy as compared to cubic nonlinearity is also discussed.  相似文献

In this study a new insight into least squares regression is identified and immediately applied to estimating the parameters of nonlinear rational models. From the beginning the ordinary explicit expression for linear in the parameters model is expanded into an implicit expression. Then a generic algorithm in terms of least squares error is developed for the model parameter estimation. It has been proved that a nonlinear rational model can be expressed as an implicit linear in the parameters model, therefore, the developed algorithm can be comfortably revised for estimating the parameters of the rational models. The major advancement of the generic algorithm is its conciseness and efficiency in dealing with the parameter estimation problems associated with nonlinear in the parameters models. Further, the algorithm can be used to deal with those regression terms which are subject to noise. The algorithm is reduced to an ordinary least square algorithm in the case of linear or linear in the parameters models. Three simulated examples plus a realistic case study are used to test and illustrate the performance of the algorithm.  相似文献

A new approach for modelling the dynamics of parallel kinematic (PKM) structures is presented in this paper. It leads to a formulation of the dynamic equations which is linear with respect to a dynamic parameter vector of minimal dimension. Thus, the equations can be directly used for parameter identi.cation by linear estimation techniques. The algorithm utilises Jourdain 's principle of virtual power which leads to very efficient resulting code. The parameter reduction is based on opening the kinematic loops so that analytic rules known from serial robots can be implemented. Additionally, a new approach for dynamic parameter identification is suggested. The application to modelling the PKM PaLiDa and identifying its gravitational parameters proves the capacity of the presented approaches.  相似文献
