The effective fragment potential (EFP) method for treating solvent effects provides relative energies and structures that are in excellent agreement with the analogous fully quantum [i.e., Hartree-Fock (HF), density functional theory (DFT), and second order perturbation theory (MP2)] results for small water clusters. The ability of the method to predict bulk water properties with a comparable accuracy is assessed by performing EFP molecular dynamics simulations. The resulting radial distribution functions (RDF) suggest that as the underlying quantum method is improved from HF to DFT to MP2, the agreement with the experimental RDF also improves. The MP2-based EFP method yields a RDF that is in excellent agreement with experiment.  相似文献

The binding energies of the first 5 H2O molecules to c-C3H3+ were determined by equilibrium measurements. The measured binding energies of the hydrated clusters of 9-12 kcal/mol are typical of carbon-based CH+...X hydrogen bonds. The ion solvation with the more polar CH3CN molecules results in stronger bonds consistent with the increased ion-dipole interaction. Ab initio calculations show that the lowest energy isomer of the c-C3H3+(H2O)4 cluster consists of a cyclic water tetramer interacting with the c-C3H3+ ion, which suggests the presence of orientational restraint of the water molecules consistent with the observed large entropy loss. The c-C3H3+ ion is deprotonated by 3 or more H2O molecules, driven energetically by the association of the solvent molecules to form strongly hydrogen bonded (H2O)nH+ clusters. The kinetics of the associative proton transfer (APT) reaction C3H3+ + nH2O --> (H2O)nH+ + C3H2* exhibits an unusually steep negative temperature coefficient of k = cT(-63+/-4) (or activation energy of -37 +/- 1 kcal mol(-1)). The behavior of the C3H3+/water system is exactly analogous to the benzene+*/water system, suggesting that the mechanism, kinetics and large negative temperature coefficients may be general to multibody APT reactions. These reactions can become fast at low temperatures, allowing ionized polycyclic aromatics to initiate ice formation in cold astrochemical environments.  相似文献

An ab initio explicit solvation valence bond (VB) method, called VBEFP, is presented. The VBEFP method is one type of QM/MM approach in which the QM part of system is treated within the ab initio valence bond scheme and the solvent water molecules are accounted by the effective fragment potential (EFP) method, which is a polarized force field approach developed by Gordon et al. (J. Chem. Phys. 1996, 105, 1968). This hybrid method enables one to take the first-solvation shell and heterogeneous solvation effects into account explicitly with VB wave function. Therefore, the nature of chemical bonding and the mechanism of chemical reactions with explicit solvent environments can be explored at the ab inito VB level. In this paper, the hydrated metal-ligand complexes [M(2+)L](H(2)O)(n) (M(2+): Mg(2+), Zn(2+); L: NH(3), CH(2)O) are studied by the VBEFP method. Resonance energy and bond order are computed, and the influence of the solvent coordination and hydrogen bonding to the metal-ligand bonding are explored in the paper.  相似文献

We examine the adsorption of CH(4) on the MgO(001) surface by a hybrid approach. It combines MP2 calculations with extrapolation to the complete basis set limit for the adsorption site and the CH(4)-CH(4) pair interactions in the adsorbate layer, with DFT+dispersion calculations under periodic boundary conditions for the whole system. To the total binding energy of 10.7 kJ mol(-1), the DFT+D(ispersion) correction contributes 0.7 kJ mol(-1) only, showing that the Mg(9)O(9) two-layer surface model is an excellent choice and that the interaction between the CH(4) molecules in the adsorbate layer is dominated by pair interactions. Contributions due to relaxation of the atom positions of 0.6 kJ mol(-1) (evaluated at DFT+dispersion) and of higher order correlation effects of 2.0 kJ mol(-1) (evaluated by CCSD(T)) yield a final estimate of 13.3 kJ mol(-1). To this total adsorption energy, the lateral interactions between the CH(4) molecules in the adsorbate layer contribute substantially, 4.1 kJ mol(-1)."Observed" desorption energies of 15.3 and 16.0 kJ mol(-1) have been derived from the observed Arrhenius desorption barriers (12.6 and 13.1 kJ mol(-1)) using thermal enthalpy contributions and a substantial zero-point energy (4.2 kJ mol(-1)) calculated from DFT+D vibrational frequencies. The comparison shows that our final hybrid MP2?:?PBE+D+ΔCCSD(T) estimate has reached chemical accuracy. It misses 2-3 kJ mol(-1) of binding only, which is most likely due to missing higher order correlation effects.PBE+D(ispersion) itself yields an adsorption energy that agrees within 1 kJ mol(-1) with our final hybrid MP2?:?PBE+D+ΔCCSD(T) estimate.  相似文献

A method for calculating the dispersion energy between molecules modeled with the general effective fragment potential (EFP2) method and those modeled using a full quantum mechanics (QM) method, e.g., Hartree-Fock (HF) or second-order perturbation theory, is presented. C(6) dispersion coefficients are calculated for pairs of orbitals using dynamic polarizabilities from the EFP2 portion, and dipole integrals and orbital energies from the QM portion of the system. Dividing by the sixth power of the distance between localized molecular orbital centroids yields the first term in the commonly employed London series expansion. A C(8) term is estimated from the C(6) term to achieve closer agreement with symmetry adapted perturbation theory values. Two damping functions for the dispersion energy are evaluated. By using terms that are already computed during an ordinary HF or EFP2 calculation, the new method enables accurate and extremely rapid evaluation of the dispersion interaction between EFP2 and QM molecules.  相似文献

Molecular calculations were carried out with four different methodologies to study the CH 4- nH 2O complex, for n = 1-21. The HF and MP2 methods used considered the O atom with pseudopotential to freeze the 1s shell. The other methodologies applied the Bhandhlyp and B3lyp exchange and correlation functionals. The optimized CH 4- nH 2O structures are reported, specifying the number and type of H 2O subunits (triangle, square, pentagon, etc.) that comprised the nH 2O counterpart cluster or cage, that interacted with the CH 4 molecule, and, in the latter case, that provided its confinement. Results are focused to understand the stability of the CH 4- nH 2O complex. The quality of the electron correlation effect, as well as the size of the nH 2O cage to confine the guest molecule, and the number and type of H 2O subunits comprising the nH 2O cluster or cage are the most important factors to provide the stability of the complex and also dictate the particular n value at which the CH 4 molecule confinement occurs. This number was 14 for the HF, Bhandhlyp, and B3Lyp methods and 16 for the MP2 method. The reported hydrate structures for n < 20 could be predictive for future experiments.  相似文献

A hybrid quantum mechanical/molecular mechanical (QM/MM) potential energy function with Hartree-Fock, density functional theory (DFT), and post-HF (RIMP2, MP2, CCSD) capability has been implemented in the CHARMM and Q-Chem software packages. In addition, we have modified CHARMM and Q-Chem to take advantage of the newly introduced replica path and the nudged elastic band methods, which are powerful techniques for studying reaction pathways in a highly parallel (i.e., parallel/parallel) fashion, with each pathway point being distributed to a different node of a large cluster. To test our implementation, a series of systems were studied and comparisons were made to both full QM calculations and previous QM/MM studies and experiments. For instance, the differences between HF, DFT, MP2, and CCSD QM/MM calculations of H2O...H2O, H2O...Na+, and H2O...Cl- complexes have been explored. Furthermore, the recently implemented polarizable Drude water model was used to make comparisons to the popular TIP3P and TIP4P water models for doing QM/MM calculations. We have also computed the energetic profile of the chorismate mutase catalyzed Claisen rearrangement at various QM/MM levels of theory and have compared the results with previous studies. Our best estimate for the activation energy is 8.20 kcal/mol and for the reaction energy is -23.1 kcal/mol, both calculated at the MP2/6-31+G(d)//MP2/6-31+G(d)/C22 level of theory.  相似文献

A kink-based path integral method, previously applied to atomic systems, is modified and used to study molecular systems. The method allows the simultaneous evolution of atomic and electronic degrees of freedom. The results for CH4, NH3, and H2O demonstrate this method to be accurate for both geometries and energies. A comparison with density functional theory (DFT) and second-order Moller-Plesset (MP2) level calculations show the path integral approach to produce energies in close agreement with MP2 energies and geometries in close agreement with both DFT and MP2 results.  相似文献

The reaction energy profile for H2 + OH → H + H2O was computed using HF, MP2, MP4, QCISD, G1, G2, and G2MP2 ab initio methods. In addition, the B3LYP, B3P86, B3PW91, BLYP, BP291, and SVWN density functional theory (DFT) methods were also used. All the ab initio methods, with the exception of the G series, produced much higher activation barriers and heats of reaction than the experimental values. On the other hand, the DFT methods produced negative forward and reverse barriers which were too low, with the exception of the hybrid DFT methods. The G2 ab initio method generated energies which deviated from the experimental values by ∼ 1 kcal/mol and therefore should be considered a very accurate computational method. The hybrid DFT methods produced positive forward reaction barriers with energies that were 2–4 kcal/mol lower than the experimental values. The geometries of the transition state and energies computed by the ab initio and DFT methods were compared. These results suggest that, in the hybrid exchange functional, the portion of the Slater exchange term should be increased. This may be the reason why the computed energies were too low. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Int J Quant Chem 62: 639–644, 1997  相似文献

Density functional theory (DFT ) was used to study reactions involving small molecules. Relative energies of isomers and transition structures of diazene, formaldehyde, and methylenimine were determined using various DFT functionals and results were compared with MP 2 and MP 4 calculations. DFT reaction barriers were found to be consistently lower. For some reactions, such as OH + H2→ H2O + H, gradient-corrected functionals predict very low or nonexistent barriers. The hybrid Hartree–Fock–DFT adiabatic connection method (ACM ) often provides much better results in such cases. The performance of several density functionals, including ACM , was tested in calculations on over 100 atomization, hydrogenation, bond dissociation, and isodesmic reactions. The ACM functional provides consistently better geometries and reaction energetics than does any other functional studied. In cases where both HF and gradient-corrected DFT methods underestimate bond distances, the ACM geometries may be inferior to those predicted by gradient-corrected DFT methods. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The Grimme-D3 semi-empirical dispersion energy correction has been implemented for the original effective fragment potential for water (EFP1), and for systems that contain water molecules described by both correlated ab initio quantum mechanical (QM) molecules and EFP1. Binding energies obtained with these EFP1-D and QM/EFP1-D methods were tested using 27 benchmark species, including neutral, protonated, deprotonated, and auto-ionized water clusters and nine solute–water binary complexes. The EFP1-D and QM/EFP1-D binding energies are compared with those obtained using fully QM methods: second-order perturbation theory, and coupled cluster theory, CCSD(T), at the complete basis set (CBS) limit. The results show that the EFP1-D and QM/EFP1-D binding energies are in good agreement with CCSD(T)/CBS binding energies with a mean absolute error of 5.9 kcal/mol for water clusters and 0.8 kcal/mol for solute–water binary complexes. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Adiabatic electron affinities (AEAs) of the adenine-thymine (AT) base pair surrounded by 5 and 13 water molecules have been studied by density functional theory (DFT). Geometries of neutral AT x nH2O and anionic (AT x nH2O)- complexes (n = 5 and 13) were fully optimized, and vibrational frequency analysis was performed at the B3LYP/6-31+G** level of theory. The optimized structures of the neutral (AT x nH2O) and (AT x nH2O)- complexes were found to be somewhat nonplanar. Some of the water molecules are displaced away from the AT ring plane and linked with one another by hydrogen bonds. The optimized structures of the complexes are found to be in a satisfactory agreement with the observed experimental and molecular dynamics simulation results. In the optimized anionic complexes, the thymine (T) moiety was found to be puckered, whereas the adenine (A) moiety remained almost planar. Natural population analysis (NPA) performed using the B3LYP/6-31+G** method shows that the thymine moiety in the anionic (AT x nH2O)- complexes (n = 5 and 13) has most of the excess electronic charge, i.e., approximately -0.87 and approximately -0.81 (in the unit of magnitude of the electronic charge), respectively. The zero-point energy corrected adiabatic electron affinities of the hydrated AT base pair were found to be positive both for n = 5 and 13 and have the values of 0.97 and 0.92 eV, respectively, which are almost three times the AEA of the AT base pair. The results show that the presence of water molecules appreciably enhances the EA of the base pair.  相似文献

Structure and properties of hydrated clusters of halogen gas, X2.nH2O (X = Cl, Br, and I; n = 1-8) are presented following first principle based electronic structure theory, namely, BHHLYP density functional and second-order Moller-Plesset perturbation (MP2) methods. Several geometrical arrangements are considered as initial guess structures to look for the minimum energy equilibrium structures by applying the 6-311++G(d,p) set of the basis function. Results on X2-water clusters (X = Br and I) suggest that X2 exists as a charge separated ion pair, X+delta-X-delta in the hydrated clusters, X2.nH2O (n > or = 2). Though the optimized structures of Cl2.nH2O clusters look like X2.nH2O (X = Br and I) clusters, Cl2 does not exist as a charge separated ion pair in the presence of solvent water molecules. The calculated interaction energy between X2 and solvent water cluster increases from Cl2.nH2O to I2.nH2O clusters, suggesting solubility of gas-phase I2 in water to be a maximum among these three systems. Static and dynamic polarizabilities of hydrated X2 clusters, X2.nH2O, are calculated and observed to vary linearly with the size (n) of these water clusters with correlation coefficient >0.999. This suggests that the polarizability of the larger size hydrated clusters can be reliably predicted. Static and dynamic polarizabilities of these hydrated clusters grow exponentially with the frequency of an external applied field for a particular size (n) of hydrated cluster.  相似文献

The reaction of F(2P) with acetone has been studied theoretically using ab initio quantum chemistry methods and transition state theory. The potential energy surface was calculated at the G3MP2 level using the MP2/6-311G(d,p) optimized structures. Additionally, to ensure the accuracy of the calculations, optimizations with either larger basis set (e.g., MP2/G3MP2Large) or higher level electron correlation [e.g., CCSD/ 6-311G(d,p)] were also performed. It has been revealed that the F + CH3C(O)CH3 reaction proceeds via two pathways: (1) the direct hydrogen abstraction of acetone by F gives the major products HF + CH3C(O)CH2; (2) the addition of F atom to the >C=O double bond of acetone and the subsequent C-C bond cleavage gives the minor products CH3 + CH3C(O)F. All other product channels are of no importance due to the occurrence of significant barriers. Both abstraction and addition appear to be barrierless processes. Variational transition state model and multichannel RRKM theory were employed to calculate the temperature- and pressure-dependent rate constants and branching ratios. The predicted rate constants for the abstraction channel and the yields of HF + CH3C(O)CH3 and CH3 + CH3C(O)F are both in good agreement with the experimental data at 295 K and 700 Torr. A negative temperature dependence of the overall rate constants was predicted at temperatures below 500 K.  相似文献

Extensive ab initio calculations both in gas phase and solution have been carried out to study the equilibrium structure, vibrational frequencies, and bonding characteristics of various actinyl (UO2(2+), NpO2(+), and PuO2(2+)) and their hydrated forms, AnO2(H2O)n(z+) (n=4, 5, and 6). Bulk solvent effects were studied using a continuum method. The geometries were fully optimized at the coupled-cluster singles + doubles (CCSD), density-functional theory (DFT), and M?ller-Plesset (MP2) level of theories. In addition vibrational frequencies have been obtained at the CCSD as well as MP2/DFT levels. The results show that both the short-range and long-range solvent effects are important. The combined discrete-continuum model, in which the ionic solute and the solvent molecules in the first and second solvation shells are treated quantum mechanically while the solvent is simulated by a continuum model, can predict accurately the bonding characteristics. Moreover, our values of solvation free energies suggest that five- and six-coordinations are equally preferred for UO2(2+), and five-coordinated species are preferred for NpO2(+) and PuO2(2+). On the basis of combined quantum-chemical and continuum treatments of the hydrated complexes, we are able to determine the optimal cavity radii for the solvation models. The coupled-cluster computations with large basis sets were employed for the vibrational spectra and equilibrium geometries both of which compare quite favorably with experiment. Our most accurate computations reveal that both five- and six-coordination complexes are important for these species.  相似文献

The CH3S* + O2 reaction system is considered an important process in atmospheric chemistry and in combustion as a pathway for the exothermic conversion of methane-thiyl radical, CH3S*. Several density functional and ab initio computational methods are used in this study to determine thermochemical parameters, reaction paths, and kinetic barriers in the CH3S* + O2 reaction system. The data are also used to evaluate feasibility of the DFT methods for higher molecular weight oxy-sulfur hydrocarbons, where sulfur presents added complexity from its many valence states. The methods include: B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p), B3LYP/6-311++G(3df,2p), CCSD(T)/6-311G(d,p)//MP2/6-31G(d,p), B3P86/6-311G(2d,2p)//B3P86/6-31G(d), B3PW91/6-311++G(3df,2p), G3MP2, and CBS-QB3. The well depth for the CH3S* + 3O2 reaction to the syn-CH3SOO* adduct is found to be 9.7 kcal/mol. Low barrier exit channels from the syn-CH3SOO* adduct include: CH2S + HO2, (TS6, E(a) is 12.5 kcal/mol), CH3 + SO2 via CH3SO2 (TS2', E(a) is 17.8) and CH3SO + O (TS17, E(a) is 24.7) where the activation energy is relative to the syn-CH3SOO* stabilized adduct. The transition state (TS5) for formation of the CH3SOO adduct from CH3S* + O2 and the reverse dissociation of CH3SOO to CH3S* + O2 is relatively tight compared to typical association and simple bond dissociation reactions; this is a result of the very weak interaction. Reverse reaction is the dominant dissociation path due to enthalpy and entropy considerations. The rate constants from the chemical activation reaction and from the stabilized adduct to these products are estimated as functions of temperature and pressure. Our forward rate constant and CH3S loss profile are in agreement with the experiments under similar conditions. Of the methods above, the G3MP2 and CBS-QB3 composite methods are recommended for thermochemical determinations on these carbon-sulfur-oxygen systems, when they are feasible.  相似文献

The performance of a variety of high-level composite procedures, as well as lower-cost density functional theory (DFT)- and second-order perturbation theory (MP2)-based methods, for the prediction of absolute and relative R-X bond dissociation energies (BDEs) was examined for R = Me, Et, i-Pr and t-Bu, and X = H, CH(3), OCH(3), OH and F. The methods considered include the high-level G3(MP2)-RAD and G3-RAD procedures, a variety of pure and hybrid DFT methods (B-LYP, B3-LYP, B3-P86, KMLYP, B1B95, MPW1PW91, MPW1B95, BB1K, MPW1K, MPWB1K and BMK), standard restricted (open-shell) MP2 (RMP2), and two recently introduced variants of MP2, namely spin-component-scaled MP2 (SCS-MP2) and scaled-opposite-spin MP2 (SOS-MP2). The high-level composite procedures show very good agreement with experiment and are used to evaluate the performance of the lower-level DFT- and MP2-based procedures. The best DFT methods (KMLYP and particularly BMK) provide very reasonable predictions for the absolute heats of formation and R-X BDEs for the systems studied. However, all of the DFT methods overestimate the stabilizing effect on BDEs in going from R = Me to R = t-Bu, leading in some cases to incorrect qualitative behavior. In contrast, the MP2-based methods generally show larger errors (than the best DFT methods) in the absolute heats of formation and BDEs, but better behavior for the relative BDEs, although they do tend to underestimate the stabilizing effect on BDEs in going from R = Me to R = t-Bu. The potentially less computationally expensive SOS-MP2 method offers particular promise as a reliable method that might be applicable to larger systems.  相似文献

The reaction for CH3CH2+O(3P) was studied by ab initio method. The geometries of the reactants, intermediates, transition states and products were optimized at MP2/6-311+G(d,p) level. The corresponding vibration frequencies were calculated at the same level. The single-point calculations for all the stationary points were carried out at the QCISD(T)/6-311+G(d,p) level using the MP2/6-311+G(d,p) optimized geometries. The results of the theoretical study indicate that the major products are the CH2O+CH3, CH3CHO+H and CH2CH2+OH in the reaction. For the products CH2O+CH3 and CH3CHO+H, the major production channels are A1: (R)→IM1→TS3→(A) and B1: (R)→IM1→TS4→(B), respectively. The majority of the products CH2CH2+OH are formed via the direct abstraction channels C1 and C2: (R)→TS1(TS2)→(C). In addition, the results suggest that the barrier heights to form the CO reaction channels are very high, so the CO is not a major product in the reaction.  相似文献

Density functional theory (DFT) calculations are carried out to investigate partial oxidation of propylene over neutral VO 3 clusters. C=C bond cleavage products CH 3CHO + VO 2CH 2 and HCHO + VO 2CHCH 3 can be formed overall barrierlessly from the reaction of propylene with VO 3 at room temperature. Formation of hydrogen transfer products H 2O + VO 2C 3H 4, CH 2=CHCHO + VO 2H 2, CH 3CH 2CHO + VO 2, and (CH 3) 2CO + VO 2 is subject to tiny (0.01 eV) or small (0.06 eV, 0.19 eV) overall free energy barriers, although their formation is thermodynamically more favorable than the formation of C=C bond cleavage products. These DFT results are in agreement with recent experimental observations. VO 3 regeneration processes at room temperature are also investigated through reaction of O 2 with the CC bond cleavage products VO 2CH 2 and VO 2CHCH 3. The following barrierless reaction channels are identified: VO 2CH 2 + O 2 --> VO 3 + CH 2O; VO 2CH 2 + O 2 --> VO 3C + H 2O, VO 3C + O 2 --> VO 3 + CO 2; VO 2CHCH 3 + O 2 --> VO 3 + CH 3CHO; and VO 2CHCH 3 + O 2 --> VO 3C + CH 3OH, VO 3C + O 2 --> VO 3 + CO 2. The kinetically most favorable reaction products are CH 3CHO, H 2O, and CO 2 in the gas phase model catalytic cycles. The results parallel similar behavior in the selective oxidation of propylene over condensed phase V 2O 5/SiO 2 catalysts.  相似文献
