We construct the first known complex-valued harmonic morphisms from the non-compact Lie groups SLn(R), SU(2n) and Sp(n,R) equipped with their standard Riemannian metrics. We then introduce the notion of a bi-eigenfamily and employ this to construct the first known solutions on the non-compact Riemannian SO(2n), SO(p,q), SU(p,q) and Sp(p,q). Applying a duality principle we then show how to manufacture the first known complex-valued harmonic morphisms from the compact Lie groups SO(n), SU(n) and Sp(n) equipped with semi-Riemannian metrics.  相似文献

We study the mod 2 homology of the double and triple loop spaces of homogeneous spaces associated with exceptional Lie groups. The main computational tools are the Serre spectral sequence for fibrations Ωn+1GΩn+1(G/H)→ΩnH for n=1,2, and the Eilenberg-Moore spectral sequence associated with related fiber squares, which both converge to the same destination space H(Ωn(G/H);F2). We also develop the generalized Bockstein lemma to determine the higher Bockstein actions.  相似文献

The unitary group U(n) has elements εiπ2i+1(U(n)) (0?i?n−1) of its homotopy groups in the stable range. In this paper we show that certain multi Samelson products of type 〈εi,〈εj,εk〉〉 are non-trivial. This leads us to the result that the nilpotency class of the group of the self homotopy set [SU(n),SU(n)] is no less than 3, if 4?n. Also by the power of generalized Samelson products, we can see the further result that, for a prime p and an integer n=pk, nil[SU(n),SU(n)](p)?3, if (1) p?7 or (2) p=5 and n≡0 or 1mod4.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a new method for manufacturing harmonic morphisms from semi-Riemannian manifolds. This is employed to yield a variety of new examples from the compact Lie groups SO(n), SU(n) and Sp(n) equipped with their standard Riemannian metrics. We develop a duality principle and show how this can be used to construct the first known examples of harmonic morphisms from the non-compact Lie groups , SU *(2n), , SO *(2n), SO(p, q), SU(p, q) and Sp(p, q) equipped with their standard dual semi-Riemannian metrics.   相似文献

We study the mod 2 homology of the double loop space of SU(n)/SO(n) using the Serre spectral sequence along with the Eilenberg-Moore spectral sequence. Then we also get the homology of the double loop space of the set of all Lagrangian subspaces of the symplectic vector space R2n.  相似文献

In this paper we prove the local existence of complex-valued harmonic morphisms from any compact semisimple Lie group and their non-compact duals. These include all Riemannian symmetric spaces of types II and IV. We produce a variety of concrete harmonic morphisms from the classical compact simple Lie groups SO(n), SU(n), Sp(n) and globally defined solutions on their non-compact duals SO(n,C)/SO(n), SLn(C)/SU(n) and Sp(n,C)/Sp(n).  相似文献

We study the mod p homology of the double and the triple loop spaces of exceptional Lie groups E 6, E 7, and E 8 through the Eilenberg–Moore spectral sequence and the Serre spectral sequence using homology operations. The Bockstein actions on them are also determined. As a result, the Eilenberg–Moore spectral sequences of the path loop fibrations converging to H *2 G;? p ) and H *3 G;? p ) collapse at the E 2-term for any compact simple Lie group G. The study of left-invariant Einstein metrics on compact Lie groups which are naturally reductive was initiated by D??Atri and Ziller (Mem Am Math Soc 18, (215) 1979). In 1996 the second author obtained non-naturally reductive Einstein metrics on the Lie group SU(n) for n ??? 6, by using a method of Riemannian submersions. In the present work we prove existence of non-naturally reductive Einstein metrics on the compact simple Lie groups SO(n) (n ??? 11), Sp(n) (n ??? 3), E 6, E 7, and E 8.  相似文献

Projective reflection groups have been recently defined by the second author. They include a special class of groups denoted G(r,p,s,n) which contains all classical Weyl groups and more generally all the complex reflection groups of type G(r,p,n). In this paper we define some statistics analogous to descent number and major index over the projective reflection groups G(r,p,s,n), and we compute several generating functions concerning these parameters. Some aspects of the representation theory of G(r,p,s,n), as distribution of one-dimensional characters and computation of Hilbert series of invariant algebras, are also treated.  相似文献

We investigate the generalized involution models of the projective reflection groups G(r, p, q, n). This family of groups parametrizes all quotients of the complex reflection groups G(r, p, n) by scalar subgroups. Our classification is ultimately incomplete, but we provide several necessary and sufficient conditions for generalized involution models to exist in various cases. In the process we solve several intermediate problems concerning the structure of projective reflection groups. We derive a simple criterion for determining whether two groups G(r, p, q, n) and G(r, p′, q′, n) are isomorphic. We also describe explicitly the form of all automorphisms of G(r, p, q, n), outside a finite list of exceptional cases. Building on prior work, this allows us to prove that G(r, p, 1, n) has a generalized involution model if and only if G(r, p, 1, n) ≌ G(r, 1, p, n). We also classify which groups G(r, p, q, n) have generalized involution models when n = 2, or q is odd, or n is odd.  相似文献

In a seminal paper, Erd?s and Rényi identified a sharp threshold for connectivity of the random graph G(n,p). In particular, they showed that if p?logn/n then G(n,p) is almost always connected, and if p?logn/n then G(n,p) is almost always disconnected, as n.The clique complexX(H) of a graph H is the simplicial complex with all complete subgraphs of H as its faces. In contrast to the zeroth homology group of X(H), which measures the number of connected components of H, the higher dimensional homology groups of X(H) do not correspond to monotone graph properties. There are nevertheless higher dimensional analogues of the Erd?s-Rényi Theorem. We study here the higher homology groups of X(G(n,p)). For k>0 we show the following. If p=nα, with α<−1/k or α>−1/(2k+1), then the kth homology group of X(G(n,p)) is almost always vanishing, and if −1/k<α<−1/(k+1), then it is almost always nonvanishing. We also give estimates for the expected rank of homology, and exhibit explicit nontrivial classes in the nonvanishing regime. These estimates suggest that almost all d-dimensional clique complexes have only one nonvanishing dimension of homology, and we cannot rule out the possibility that they are homotopy equivalent to wedges of a spheres.  相似文献

Associated to every group with a weak spherical Tits system of rank n+1 with an appropriate rank n subgroup, we construct a relative spectral sequence involving group homology of Levi subgroups of both groups. Using the fact that such Levi subgroups frequently split as semidirect products of smaller groups, we prove homological stability results for unitary groups over division rings with infinite centre as well as for special linear and special orthogonal groups over infinite fields.  相似文献

Let SU(f) be the special unitary group of an anisotropic hermitian form f over a field k. Assume f represents only one norm class in k. The representations α:SU(f)→SL(n, R) are characterized when R is a commutative local ring with 3 a unit and n=dimf?4.  相似文献

An abelian group A is called absolutely abelian, if in every central extension N ? G ? A the group G is also abelian. The abelian group A is absolutely abelian precisely when the Schur multiplicator H2A vanished. These groups, and more generally groups with HnA = 0 for some n, are characterized by elementary internal properties. (Here H1A denotes the integral homology of A.) The cases of even n and odd n behave strikingly different. There are 2?ο different isomorphism types of abelian groups A with reduced torsion subgroup satisfying H2nA = 0. The major tools are direct limit arguments and the Lyndon-Hochschild-Serre (L-H-S) spectral sequence, but the treatment of absolutely abelian groups does not use spectral sequences. All differentials dr for r ≥ 2 in the L-H-S spectral sequence of a pure abelian extension vanish. Included is a proof of the folklore theorem, that homology of groups commutes with direct limits also in the group variable, and a discussion of the L-H-S spectral sequence for direct limits.  相似文献

In this paper we study the branching law for the restriction from SU(n,m) to SO(n,m) of the minimal representation in the analytic continuation of the scalar holomorphic discrete series. We identify the group decomposition with the spectral decomposition of the action of the Casimir operator on the subspace of S(O(nO(m))-invariants. The Plancherel measure of the decomposition defines an L2-space of functions, for which certain continuous dual Hahn polynomials furnish an orthonormal basis. It turns out that the measure has point masses precisely when nm>2. Under these conditions we construct an irreducible representation of SO(n,m), identify it with a parabolically induced representation, and construct a unitary embedding into the representation space for the minimal representation of SU(n,m).  相似文献

Let 1→NGG/N→1 be a short exact sequence of profinite groups, and let p be a prime number. We prove that if G is of finite cohomological p-dimension n:=cdp(G)<∞ and if the order of Hk(N,Fp) is finite for k:=cdp(N), the virtual cohomological p-dimension of G/N equals n?k. Factoriality in the cyclic component of the vacuum for the energy representation of SU(n)-valued paths groups is proved. The main tool is a lemma concerning generic pairs of Cartan subalgebras in the Lie algebra su(n) of SU(n) groups.  相似文献

This paper solves for torsion free and torsion abelian groups G the problem of presenting nth powers Δn(G) of the augmentation ideal Δ(G) of an integral group ring , in terms of the standard additive generators of Δn(G). A concrete basis for Δn(G) is obtained when G itself has a basis and is torsion. The results are applied to describe the homology of the sequence Δn(N)G?Δn(G)?Δn(G/N).  相似文献

This paper is on the connecting homomorphism in the long exact homotopy sequence of the evaluation fibration evp0 :C(P, K) K K, whereC(P, K) K is the gauge group of a continuous principalK-bundle. We show that in the case of a bundle over a sphere or a orientable surface the connecting homomorphism is given in terms of the Samelson product. As applications we get an explicit formula for π2(C(P k ,K) K ), whereP k denotes the principal S3-bundle over S4 of Chern numberk and derive explicit formulae for the rational homotopy groups π n (C(P,K) K )??.  相似文献
