Mixed surfactant systems have the potential to impart controlled combinations of functionality and pore structure to mesoporous metal oxides. Here, we combine a functional glucopyranoside surfactant with a cationic surfactant that readily forms liquid crystalline mesophases. The phase diagram for the ternary system CTAB/H(2)O/n-octyl-beta-D-glucopyranoside (C(8)G(1)) at 50 degrees C is measured using polarized optical microscopy. At this temperature, the binary C(8)G(1)/H(2)O system forms disordered micellar solutions up to 72 wt% C(8)G(1), and there is no hexagonal phase. With the addition of CTAB, we identify a large area of hexagonal phase, as well as cubic, lamellar and solid surfactant phases. The ternary phase diagram is used to predict the synthesis of thick mesoporous silica films via a direct liquid crystal templating technique. By changing the relative concentration of mixed surfactants as well as inorganic precursor species, surfactant/silica mesostructured thick films can be synthesized with variable glucopyranoside content, and with 2D hexagonal, cubic and lamellar structures. The domains over which different mesophases are prepared correspond well with those of the ternary phase diagram if the hydrophilic inorganic species is assumed to act as an equivalent volume of water.  相似文献

Energy dispersion X-ray diffraction (EDXD) was applied to investigate the structure of partly dehydrated mixed films formed by the phospholipid dimyristoyl phosphatidylcoline (DMPC) and any of the three diastereomers of the dicationic gemini surfactant (2S,3S)-2,3-dimethoxy-1,4-bis(N-hexadecyl-N,N-dimethylammonium) butane dibromide. As the surfactant to lipid molar ratio (R(S/L)) increases, the gemini monotonically solubilizes the lipid bilayer promoting the formation of a cubic phase of space group Pmn segregating from the residual lamellar phase of the lipid. Finally, at R(S/)(L) = 1, the phase transition is complete. The mixed film at the highest surfactant to lipid molar ratio (R(S/L) = 2.3) was hydrated by a vapor saturated atmosphere. At full hydration, a cubic to lamellar phase transition occurs. Coarse grain dynamic investigations, carried out as a function of both the surfactant to lipid molar ratio and the number of water molecules for amphiphile unit, allowed us to elucidate the structure of the emerging cubic phase and the hydration-induced structural pathway of the cubic to lamellar phase transition observed by EDXD.  相似文献

Surfactant-templated mesostructured sol–gel films formed by evaporation induced self assembly (EISA) exhibit highly-ordered hexagonal, lamellar, and cubic structures. The steady-state dip-coating configuration allows both the chemistry and the dynamics of the EISA process to be traced in real time because the steps involved in the formation of the mesostructured material are separated both spatially and temporally in the dip-coating direction. The dynamic processes occurring during film formation can be conveniently monitored by the combination of interferometry and fluorescence spectroscopy of incorporated molecular probes. The selected probes respond to changes in their rotational mobility and the surrounding solvent composition and report these changes through their fluorescence characteristics. By taking in situ fluorescence spectra at various positions within the progressively thinning film, changes in the solvent composition, onset of micelle formation and further organization to the final mesophase structure can be followed. The luminescence of the probe molecule is measured with a spatial resolution of 100 μm. Two categories of surfactant-templated mesostructured sol–gel films were examined. Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) systems assemble into a 2-D hexagonal surfactant/silica mesophase with the surfactant concentration used in this study. CTAB dodecylmethacrylate systems assemble into a lamellar mesophase, which can be further polymerized to form a poly(dodecylmethacrylate)/silica hybrid nanocomposite that mimics nacre. X-ray diffraction patterns, transmission electron microscopy images, and other techniques are used to characterize the final films.  相似文献

Mesoporous silica materials with pore structures such as 2D hexagonal close packed, bicontinuous cubic, lamellar, sponge, wormhole-like, and rectangular have been made by using surfactant templating sol-gel processes. However, there are still some "intermediate" phases, in particular mesh phases, that are formed by surfactants but which have not been made into analogous silica pore structures. Here, we describe the one-step synthesis of mesoporous silica with a mesh phase pore structure. The cationic fluorinated surfactant 1,1,2,2-tetrahydroperfluorodecylpyridinium chloride (HFDePC) is used as the template. Like many fluorinated surfactants, HFDePC forms intermediate phases in water (including a mesh phase) over a wider range of compositions than do hydrocarbon surfactants. The materials produced by this technique are novel elongated particles in which the layers of the mesh phase are oriented orthogonal to the main axis of the particles.  相似文献

The double-gyroid phase of nanoporous silica films has been shown to possess facile mass-transport properties and may be used as a mold to fabricate a variety of highly ordered inverse double-gyroid metal and semiconductor films. This phase exists only over a very small region of the binary phase diagram for most surfactants, and it has been very difficult to synthesize metal oxide films with this structure by evaporation-induced self-assembly (EISA). Here, we show the interplay of the key parameters needed to synthesize these structures reproducibly and show that the interfacial curvature may be systematically controlled. Grazing angle of incidence small-angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS) is used to determine the structure and orientation of nanostructured silica films formed by EISA from dilute silica/(poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(propylene oxide)-b-alkyl) surfactant solutions. Four different highly ordered film structures are observed by changing only the concentration of the surfactant, the relative humidity during dip-coating, and the aging time of the solution prior to coating. The highly ordered films progress from rhombohedral (Rm) to 2D rectangular (c2m) to double-gyroid (distorted Iad) to lamellar systematically as interfacial curvature decreases. Under all experimental conditions investigated, increasing the aging time of the coating solution was found to decrease the interfacial curvature. In particular, this parameter was critical to being able to synthesize highly ordered, pure-phase double-gyroid films. The key role of the aging time is shown via processing diagrams that map out the interplay between the aging time, composition, and relative humidity. 29Si nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and solution-phase small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) of the aged coating solutions presented in part I of this series are then used to interpret the effects of aging prior to dip-coating. Specifically, it was found that a predictive model based on volume fractions and the silica cluster stoichiometry obtained from 29Si NMR qualitatively explains the trends observed with composition and aging. However, apart from the effects of relative humidity, a quantitative comparison of the predicted phase with the experimental processing diagram suggests that less-condensed silica clusters are more effective at swelling the EO blocks at early aging times. This enhanced swelling decreases with aging time and results in lower-curvature nanostructures such as the double-gyroid. The decrease in swelling is attributed to the decreased thermodynamic driving force for the more-condensed silica clusters to mix with the EO block of the surfactant.  相似文献

Controlling the interfacial behavior and properties of lipid liquid crystalline nanoparticles (LCNPs) at surfaces is essential for their application for preparing functional surface coatings as well as understanding some aspects of their properties as drug delivery vehicles. Here we have studied a LCNP system formed by mixing soy phosphatidylcholine (SPC), forming liquid crystalline lamellar structures in excess water, and glycerol dioleate (GDO), forming reversed structures, dispersed into nanoparticle with the surfactant polysorbate 80 (P80) as stabilizer. LCNP particle properties were controlled by using different ratios of the lipid building blocks as well as different concentrations of the surfactant P80. The LCNP size, internal structure, morphology, and charge were characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS), synchrotron small-ange X-ray scattering (SAXS), cryo-transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM), and zeta potential measurements, respectively. With increasing SPC to GDO ratio in the interval from 35:65 to 60:40, the bulk lipid phase structure goes from reversed cubic micellar phase with Fd3m space group to reversed hexagonal phase. Adding P80 results in a successive shift toward more disorganized lamellar type of structures. This is also seen from cryo-TEM images for the LCNPs, where higher P80 ratios results in more extended lamellar layers surrounding the inner, more dense, lipid-rich particle core with nonlamellar structure. When put in contact with a solid silica surface, the LCNPs adsorb to form multilayer structures with a surface excess and thickness values that increase strongly with the content of P80 and decreases with increasing SPC:GDO ratio. This is reflected in both the adsorption rate and steady-state values, indicating that the driving force for adsorption is largely governed by attractive interactions between poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) units of the P80 stabilizer and the silica surface. On cationic surface, i.e., silica modified with 3-aminopropltriethoxysilane (APTES), the slightly negatively charged LCNPs give rise to a very significant adsorption, which is relatively independent of LCNP composition. Finally, the dynamic thickness measurements indicate that direct adsorption of intact particles occurred on the cationic surface, while a slow buildup of the layer thickness with time is seen for the weakly interacting systems.  相似文献

An intermediate mesophase of lyotropic liquid crystalline structure from the ternary mixtures of glycerol monooleate, water, and ethanol was recently characterized in our lab. This mesophase, termed Q(L), consists of discrete discontinuous micelles arranged in a cubic array. The Q(L) phase can solubilize very significant loads of water-insoluble anti-inflamatory drug sodium diclofenac (Na-DFC). Close examination of the internal structures of the lyotropic liquid structure upon increasing the solubilization loads reveals the existence of three structural transitions controlled by the Na-DFC levels. Up to 0.4 wt% Na-DFC, the Q(L) structure remains intact with some influence on the hydration of the headgroups and on the intermicellar forces. However, at 0.8 to 1.2 wt% Na-DFC, the discontinuous micellar cubic phase is transformed into a more condensed mesophase of a bicontinuous cubic phase. At > or =1.2 wt% Na-DFC, the cubic phase is converted into a lamellar phase (L(alpha)). Within 5.5 to 7.3 wt% Na-DFC the mesophase is progressively transformed into a less ordered lamellar structure. At 12 wt% Na-DFC crystals tend to precipitate out. At low Na-DFC concentrations the drug behaves like a lyotropic or kosmotropic salt and can salt-out the surfactant from its water layer, but at higher levels it behaves like a hydrotropic, chaotropic salt and can salt-in the surfactant. The Na-DFC location and position within the interface as well as its polarization and partial ionization are strongly affected by its solubilization contents and the structure that it is inducing. In the cubic phase the drug is located less close to the hydration layer while once transition occurs it is exposed more to the water layer and the surfactant headgroups.  相似文献

The phase behavior and formation of self-assemblies in the ternary water/fluorinated surfactant (C(8)F(17)EO(10))/hydrophobic fluorinated polymer (C(3)F(6)O)(n)COOH system and the application of those assemblies in the preparation of mesostructured silica have been investigated by means of phase study, small angle X-ray scattering, and rheology. Hexagonal (H(1)), bicontinuous cubic (V(1)) with Ia3d symmetry, and polymer rich lamellar (L(alpha)(')) are observed in the ternary diagram. C(8)F(17)EO(10) molecules are dissolved in polymer rich aggregates, whereas (C(3)F(6)O)(n)COOH molecules are practically insoluble in the surfactant lamellar phase due to packing restrictions. Hence, two types of lamellar phases exist: one with surfactant rich (L(alpha)) and the other with polymer rich (L(alpha)(')) in the water/C(8)F(17)EO(10)/(C(3)F(6)O)(n)COOH system. As suggested by rheological measurements, worm-like micelles are present in C(8)F(17)EO(10) aqueous solutions but a rod-sphere transition takes place by solubilization of (C(3)F(6)O)(n)COOH. C(8)F(17)EO(10) acts as a structure directing agent for the preparation of hexagonal mesoporous silica by the precipitation method. The addition of (C(3)F(6)O)(n)COOH induces the formation of larger but disordered pores.  相似文献

The self-assembly in aqueous solution of the acidic (AS) and lactonic (LS) forms of the sophorolipid biosurfactant, their mixtures, and their mixtures with anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate, LAS, has been studied using predominantly small-angle neutron scattering, SANS, at relatively low surfactant concentrations of <30 mM. The more hydrophobic lactonic sophorolipid forms small unilamellar vesicles at low surfactant concentrations, in the concentration range of 0.2 to 3 mM, and transforms via a larger unilamellar vesicle structure at 7 mM to a disordered dilute phase of tubules at higher concentrations, 10 to 30 mM. In marked contrast, the acidic sophorolipid is predominantly in the form of small globular micelles in the concentration range of 0.5 to 30 mM, with a lower concentration of larger, more planar aggregates (lamellar or vesicular) in coexistence. In mixtures of AS and LS, over the same concentration range, the micellar structure associated with the AS sophorolipid dominates the mixed-phase behavior. In mixtures of anionic surfactant LAS with the AS sophorolipid, the globular micellar structure dominates over the entire composition and concentration range studied. In contrast, mixtures of LAS with the LS sophorolipid exhibit a rich evolution in phase behavior with solution composition and concentration. At low surfactant concentrations, the small unilamellar vesicle structure present for LS-rich solution compositions evolves into a globular micelle structure as the solution becomes richer in LAS. At higher surfactant concentrations, the disordered lamellar structure present for LS-rich compositions transforms to small vesicle/lamellar coexistence, to lamellar/micellar coexistence, to micellar/lamellar coexistence, and ultimately to a pure micellar phase as the solution becomes richer in LAS. The AS sophorolipid surfactant exhibits self-assembly properties similar to those of most other weakly ionic or nonionic surfactants that have relatively large headgroups. However, the more hydrophobic nature of the lactonic sophorolipid results in a more complex and unusual evolution in phase behavior with concentration and with concentration and composition when mixed with anionic surfactant LAS.  相似文献

Conjugated polymer/silica nanocomposites with hexagonal, cubic, or lamellar mesoscopic order were synthesized by self-assembly using polymerizable amphiphilic diacetylene molecules as both structure-directing agents and monomers. The self-assembly procedure is rapid and incorporates the organic monomers uniformly within a highly ordered, inorganic environment. By tailoring the size of the oligo(ethylene glycol) headgroup of the diacetylene-containing surfactant, we varied the resulting self-assembled mesophases of the composite material. The nanostructured inorganic host altered the diacetylene polymerization behavior, and the resulting nanocomposites show unique thermo-, mechano-, and solvatochromic properties. Polymerization of the incorporated surfactants resulted in polydiacetylene (PDA)/silica nanocomposites that were optically transparent and mechanically robust. Molecular modeling and quantum calculations and (13)C spin-lattice relaxation times (T(1)) of the PDA/silica nanocomposites indicated that the surfactant monomers can be uniformly organized into precise spatial arrangements prior to polymerization. Nanoindentation and gas transport experiments showed that these nanocomposite films have increased hardness and reduced permeability as compared to pure PDA. Our work demonstrates polymerizable surfactant/silica self-assembly to be an efficient, general approach to the formation of nanostructured conjugated polymers. The nanostructured inorganic framework serves to protect, stabilize, and orient the polymer, mediate its performance, and provide sufficient mechanical and chemical stability to enable integration of conjugated polymers into devices and microsystems.  相似文献

This paper presents the first atomistic simulation of a cubic membrane phase. Using the molecular dynamics simulation technique both the global and the local organization of glycerolmonoolein molecules inside the diamond cubic phase are studied. Multinanosecond simulations reveal that the center of the cubic bilayer remains close to the infinite periodic minimal surface that describes the diamond geometry. We further show that the equilibrium structure of the surfactant molecules inside the cubic phase is very similar to their structure inside a simulated lamellar bilayer. The small differences arise from the packing constraints of the surfactants within the cubic phase which has an area per surfactant that increases toward the bilayer center.  相似文献

Mesostructured lamellar nanocomposite films with alternating silica and organic layers containing poly(N-isopropropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAM) were prepared using evaporation-induced self-assembly. A suitable theoretical approach to analyze the small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) patterns of oriented lamellar two-phase systems was applied to the SAXS data of films of varying composition, providing details on the self-assembly process, the composition, and the polymerization. In particular, this approach allowed an accurate determination of the thickness of the silica and the organic layer. The applicability of the SAXS approach was carefully tested with simulated data and verified by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). TGA and (13)C NMR were used to study the polymerization and linkage to the silica matrix. SAXS and time-resolved grazing incidence SAXS revealed that the phase transition of PNIPAM at ca. 32 degrees C leads to a reversible expansion/contraction perpendicular to the layers on a time scale of ca. 30 min.  相似文献

The formation, properties, and structure of discontinuous cubic phase in the pseudo-ternary system consisting of N'-carboxyethyl N'-hydroxyethyl N-aminoethyl dodecylamide (imidazoriniumbetain), sodium and triethanol amine salt of polyoxyethylene (1.5 mol) myristyl ether sulfate, oleic acid, decane, and water at a constant surfactant/water ratio of 4/6 were studied by means of small-angle X-ray scattering, freeze-fracture transmission electron microscopy, static light scattering, and dynamic rheology to gain an insight in its origin and interrelation with neighboring phases. It was found that the cubic phase occupied a rather wide region in a constructed ternary phase diagram, including from 25 to 45% of decane. Its properties and structural parameters varied with changing the oil content. The decane addition caused the swelling of spherical micellar aggregates. This resulted in an increase of their diameter up to 35 nm, which was ca. nine times larger than that of the initial micelles, and micellar volume fraction (packing fraction) up to 72 vol. %, which was close to the theoretically possible value of 74 vol. % for the close-packed spherical particles. The cubic phase was surrounded by a micellar L1 phase from the water-rich side (separated by a short two-phase region), two-phase region (cubic + oil) from the oil-rich side, and a lamellar phase from the surfactant-rich side. A transition from the L1 phase to the cubic state at the packing fraction of 60 vol. % was caused by an increase in the packing density of micellar aggregates, occurring with the decane addition. When it reached 72 vol. %, the oil started forming a separated phase owing to the inability of micelles to dissolve it. The important observation is that the adjacent phase from the surfactant-rich side was a lamellar one made up of flat bilayers. The preliminary data showed that the lamellar phase coexisted with cylindrical micelles in the intermediate two-phase region separating the cubic and lamellar phases.  相似文献

We applied a molecular assembly formed in an aqueous surfactant mixture of cationic cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and anionic sodium octylsulfate (SOS) as templates of mesoporous silica materials. The hexagonal pore size can be controlled between 3.22 and 3.66 nm with the mixed surfactant system. In addition, we could observe the lamellar structure of the mixed surfactants with precursor molecules, which strongly shows the possibility of precise control of both the pore size and the structure of pores by changing the mixing ratio of surfactants. Moreover, use of the cationic surfactant having longer hydrophobic chain like stearyltrimethylammonium bromide (STAB) caused the increase in d(100) space and shifted the point of phase transition from hexagonal phase to lamellar phase to lower concentration of SOS.  相似文献

The addition of alcohol to the synthesis of a mesoporous silica material will induce a transition from hexagonal (MCM-41) to cubic (MCM-48) to a lamellar phase and finally to silica spherical particles (SSP), as the alcohol adopts the role of cosurfactant. This will evolve to a cosolvent function as the alcohol concentration is further increased. X-ray diffraction suggests that a phase regression phenomenon occurs, in contradiction with the g-value. Transmission electron microscopy reveals the structure and the microstructure of the mesoporous silica spherical particles. It is shown that the SSP consists of a core of a truncated octahedron with the MCM-48 cubic structure and radial cylindrical pores grown on the surface of the truncated octahedron. This structure model and a possible formation mechanism are discussed.  相似文献

Hybrid materials from poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and silica have been prepared using different conditions by the sol–gel technique. In situ generation of silica network in the PVC matrix was carried out by hydrolysis/condensation of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) in the matrix. Morphology of the silica particles produced in hybrid films was studied by scattering electron microscopy. The shape of silica particle produced in the matrix was modified by carrying out the sol–gel process under steam on the hybrid films using TEOS. The films were subjected to strain conditions during this process, which produced lamellar shaped particles in the matrix. It was possible to produce platelet type of structure with different aspect ratio by changing the composition and the stress conditions on the films during the steaming process. Addition of a very small amount of γ-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane as compatibilizer drastically reduced the silica particles size in the matrix to nano-level. Thermal–mechanical properties of some of these hybrids were studied and related to the composition, structure and inter-phase interaction between the silica and the matrix.  相似文献

We studied the effect of a model electrolytic drug on intermolecular interactions, conformational changes, and phase transitions in structured discontinuous cubic QL lyotropic liquid crystals. These changes were due to competition with hydration of the lipid headgroups. Structural changes of the phase induced by solubilization loads of sodium diclofenac (Na-DFC) were investigated by directly observing the water, ethanol, and Na-DFC components of the resulting phases using 2H and 23Na NMR. Na-DFC interacted with the surfactant glycerol monoolein (GMO) at the interface while interfering with the mesophase curvature and also competed with hydration of the surfactant headgroups. Increasing quantities of solubilized Na-DFC promoted phase transitions from cubic phase (discontinuous (QL) and bicontinuous (Q)) into lamellar structures and subsequently into a disordered lamellar phase. Quadrupolar coupling of deuterated ethanol by 2H NMR showed that it is located near the headgroups of the lipid and apparently is hydrogen bonded to the GMO headgroups. A phase transition between two lamellar phases (L alpha to L alpha*) was seen by 23Na NMR of Na-DFC at a concentration where the characteristics of the drug change from kosmotropic to chaotropic. These findings show that loads of solubilized drug may affect the structure of its vehicle and, as a result, its transport across skin-blood barriers. The structural changes of the mesophase may also aid controlled drug delivery.  相似文献

Alkyl glycosides were used as templating surfactants in the sol–gel processing of thin silica films. The sols were made from a prehydrolyzed silicate solution with the addition of a glucoside or a maltoside surfactant. The sol–gel–xerogel transitions and the silica–sugar interactions were studied by IR ATR spectroscopy. The siloxane condensation rate in the silica/glycoside sol was considerably reduced compared to a pure silica system due to hydrogen bonding interactions between the silanols and the sugar head groups. Thin films were deposited on silicon wafers and characterized by IR transmission, X-ray diffraction and TEM analysis. The size of the sugar head group had a large influence on the type of the mesophases formed. The use of the glucoside surfactant only resulted in temperature unstable lamellar phases, whereas the maltosides at low concentrations assembled in curved mesophases that were stable to template removal by extraction or calcination.  相似文献
