The ultrafast electron and spin dynamics of Co films was investigated using a femto-second pump-probe technique. The samples were magnetically characterized by means of magnetooptical Kerr effect and non-optical magnetometers, i.e. superconductive quantum interference device and alternating gradient field magnetometer. Time evolution of both, Kerr rotation and ellipticity, was measured at different points of the static hysteresis cycle. This allowed separating magnetic and non-magnetic contributions to the signal. The sample magnetization was found to drop within 200 fs, following the pulse cross-correlation trace, while the magnetization recovery time was found to last few picoseconds.  相似文献

By using a gas-filled kagome-style photonic crystal fiber, nonlinear fiber optics is studied in the regime of optically induced ionization. The fiber offers low anomalous dispersion over a broad bandwidth and low loss. Sequences of blueshifted pulses are emitted when 65 fs, few-microjoule pulses, corresponding to high-order solitons, are launched into the fiber and undergo self-compression. The experimental results are confirmed by numerical simulations which suggest that free-electron densities of ~10(17) cm(-3) are achieved at peak intensities of 10(14) W/cm(2) over length scales of several centimeters.  相似文献

The collapse of the magnetic exchange splitting in 7 monolayer thick epitaxial Ni/W(110) films following a femtosecond laser pulse was measured using time-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. Ultrafast demagnetization during the laser induced hot electron cascade proceeds via spin-flip excitations with a relaxation time constant of 300+/-70 fs. At longer times the electronic system cools down and the magnetization is finally reestablished with a time constant of 3.2+/-0.2 ps.  相似文献

The glass transition temperature T(g) and the temperature T(alpha) corresponding to the peak in the dielectric loss due to the alpha process have been simultaneously determined as functions of film thickness d through dielectric measurements for polystyrene thin films supported on glass substrate. The dielectric loss peaks have also been investigated as functions of frequency for a given temperature. A decrease in T(g) was observed with decreasing film thickness, while T(alpha) was found to remain almost constant for d>d(c) and to decrease drastically with decreasing d for d相似文献

Single- and multi-shot ablation thresholds of gold films in the thickness range of 31-1400 nm were determined employing a Ti:sapphire laser delivering pulses of 28 fs duration, 793 nm center wavelength at 1 kHz repetition rate. The gold layers were deposited on BK7 glass by an electron beam evaporation process and characterized by atomic force microscopy and ellipsometry. A linear dependence of the ablation threshold fluence Fth on the layer thickness d was found for d ≤ 180 nm. If a film thickness of about 180 nm was reached, the damage threshold remained constant at its bulk value. For different numbers of pulses per spot (N-on-1), bulk damage thresholds of ∼0.7 J cm−2 (1-on-1), 0.5 J cm−2 (10-on-1), 0.4 J cm−2 (100-on-1), 0.25 J cm−2 (1000-on-1), and 0.2 J cm−2 (10000-on-1) were obtained experimentally indicating an incubation behavior. A characteristic layer thickness of Lc ≈ 180 nm can be defined which is a measure for the heat penetration depth within the electron gas before electron-phonon relaxation occurs. Lc is by more than an order of magnitude larger than the optical absorption length of α−1 ≈ 12 nm at 793 nm wavelength.  相似文献

We investigate the finite temperature critical dynamics of three-dimensional superconductors in the charged regime, described by a transverse gauge field coupling to the superconducting order parameter. Assuming relaxational dynamics for both the order parameter and the gauge fields, within a dynamical renormalization group scheme, we find a new dynamic universality class characterized by a finite fixed point ratio between the transport coefficients associated with the order parameter and gauge fields, respectively. We find signatures of this universality class in various measurable physical quantities, and in the existence of a universal amplitude ratio formed by a combination of physical quantities.  相似文献

Spin dynamics in the impurity band of a semiconductor with the spin-split spectrum is considered. Due to the splitting, phonon-assisted hops from one impurity to another axe accompanied by rotation of the electron spin, which leads to spin relaxation. The system is strongly inhomogeneous because of exponential variation of hopping times. However, at very small coupling an electron diffuses over a distance exceeding the characteristic scale of the inhomogeneity during the time of spin relaxation, so one can introduce an averaged spin relaxation rate. At larger values of coupling, the system is effectively divided into two subsystems: one where relaxation is very fast and another where relaxation is rather slow. In this case, spin decays due to the escape of the electrons from one subsystem to another. As a result, the spin dynamics is nonexponential and hardly depends on spin-orbit coupling. We report on the ultrafast dynamics of magnetic order in a single crystal of CuO at a temperature of 207 K in response to strong optical excitation using femtosecond resonant x-ray diffraction. In the experiment, a femtosecond laser pulse induces a sudden, nonequilibrium increase in magnetic disorder. After a short delay ranging from 400 fs to 2 ps, we observe changes in the relative intensity of the magnetic ordering diffraction peaks that indicate a shift from a collinear commensurate phase to a spiral incommensurate phase. These results indicate that the ultimate speed for this antiferromagnetic reorientation transition in CuO is limited by the long-wavelength magnetic excitation connecting the two phases.  相似文献

Micro- and nano-scale crystalline indium-tin-oxide (c-ITO) patterns fabricated from amorphous ITO (a-ITO) thin films on a glass substrate using a (low NA 0.26) femtosecond laser pulse that is not tightly focused are demonstrated. Different types of c-ITO patterns are obtained by controlling the laser pulse energies and pulse repetition rate of a femtosecond laser beam at a wavelength of 1064 nm: periodic micro c-ITO dots with diameters of ~1.4 μm, two parallel c-ITO patterns with/without periodic-like glass nanostructures at a laser scanning path and nano-scale c-ITO line patterns with a line width ~900 nm, i.e. ~1/8 of the focused beam׳s diameter (7 μm at 1/e2).  相似文献

We demonstrate that intense laser pulses can be used to directly control the spins in ferrimagnetic garnet films. Through an ultrafast and nonthermal photomagnetic effect the magnetocrystalline anisotropy is modified to create a new long-lived equilibrium orientation for the magnetization. Simultaneously, the magnetization is rotated into this new state by precession in a strong transient optically generated magnetic field. All take place within the 100 fs duration of a single laser pulse, thus demonstrating the feasibility of photomagnetic switching on the femtosecond time scale.  相似文献

The novel technique of femtosecond time-resolved photoelectron-photoion coincidence imaging is applied to unravel dissociative ionization processes in a polyatomic molecule. Femtosecond coincidence imaging of CF3I photodynamics illustrates how competing multiphoton dissociation pathways can be distinguished, which would be impossible using photoelectron or ion imaging alone. Ion-electron energy correlations and photoelectron angular distributions reveal competing processes for the channel producing (e(-)+CF+3+I). The molecular-frame photoelectron angular distributions of the two major pathways are strikingly different.  相似文献
