We show that Stieltjes moment sequences are infinitely log-convex, which parallels a famous result that (finite) Pólya frequency sequences are infinitely log-concave. We introduce the concept of q-Stieltjes moment sequences of polynomials and show that many well-known polynomials in combinatorics are such sequences. We provide a criterion for linear transformations and convolutions preserving Stieltjes moment sequences. Many well-known combinatorial sequences are shown to be Stieltjes moment sequences in a unified approach and therefore infinitely log-convex, which in particular settles a conjecture of Chen and Xia about the infinite log-convexity of the Schröder numbers. We also list some interesting problems and conjectures about the log-convexity and the Stieltjes moment property of the (generalized) Apéry numbers.  相似文献

We introduce a non-linear injective transformation τ from the set of non-vanishing normalized Hausdorff moment sequences to the set of normalized Stieltjes moment sequences by the formulaT[(a n ) n=1 ] n = 1/a1 ...a n . Special cases of this transformation have appeared in various papers on exponential functionals of Lévy processes, partly motivated by mathematical finance. We give several examples of moment sequences arising from the transformation and provide the corresponding measures, some of which are related toq-series.  相似文献

For a certain constant (a little less than ), every function satisfying , , is a Stieltjes indeterminate Stieltjes moment sequence. For every indeterminate moment sequence there is a positive definite matrix sequence which is not of positive type and which satisfies , . For a certain constant (a little greater than ), for every function satisfying , , there is a convolution semigroup of measures on , with moments of all orders, such that , , and for every such convolution semigroup the measure is Stieltjes indeterminate for all .

We consider the set of Stieltjes moment sequences, for which every positive power is again a Stieltjes moment sequence, and prove an integral representation of the logarithm of the moment sequence in analogy to the Lévy–Khintchine representation. We use the result to construct product convolution semigroups with moments of all orders and to calculate their Mellin transforms. As an application we construct a positive generating function for the orthonormal Hermite polynomials.  相似文献

Stieltjes moment problem is considered and a solution, consisting of the use of fractional moments, is proposed. More precisely, a determinate Stieltjes moment problem, whose corresponding Hamburger moment problem is determinate too, is investigated in the setup of Maximum Entropy. Condition number in entropy calculation is provided endowing both Stieltjes moment problem existence conditions and Hamburger moment problem determinacy conditions by a geometric meaning. Then the resorting to fractional moments is considered; numerical aspects are investigated and a stable algorithm for calculating fractional moments from integer moments is proposed.  相似文献

We characterize finitely generated abelian semigroups such that every completely positive definite function (a function all of whose shifts are positive definite) is an integral of nonnegative miltiplicative real-valued functions (called nonnegative characters).  相似文献

In the strong or two-point Stieltjes moment problem, one has to find a positive measure on [0,∞) for which infinitely many moments are prescribed at the origin and at infinity. Here we consider a multipoint version in which the origin and the point at infinity are replaced by sequences of points that may or may not coincide. In the indeterminate case, two natural solutions μ0 and μ exist that can be constructed by a limiting process of approximating quadrature formulas. The supports of these natural solutions are disjoint (with possible exception of the origin). The support points are accumulation points of sequences of zeros of even and odd indexed orthogonal rational functions. These functions are recursively computed and appear as denominators in approximants of continued fractions. They replace the orthogonal Laurent polynomials that appear in the two-point case. In this paper we consider the properties of these natural solutions and analyze the precise behavior of which zero sequences converge to which support points.  相似文献

Let s be a non-vanishing Stieltjes moment sequence and let μ be a representing measure of it. We denote by μn the image measure in Cn of μσn under the map , where σn is the rotation invariant probability measure on the unit sphere. We show that the closure of holomorphic polynomials in L2(μn) is a reproducing kernel Hilbert space of analytic functions and describe various spectral properties of the corresponding Hankel operators with anti-holomorphic symbols. In particular, if n=1, we prove that there are nontrivial Hilbert-Schmidt Hankel operators with anti-holomorphic symbols if and only if s is exponentially bounded. In this case, the space of symbols of such operators is shown to be the classical Dirichlet space. We mention that the classical weighted Bergman spaces, the Hardy space and Fock type spaces fall in this setting.  相似文献

In this paper we give solutions to the Hamburger and Stieltjes moment problems in several variables, in algebraic terms, via extended sequences. Some characterizations of the uniqueness of the solutions are also presented.

The nondegenerate truncated indefinite Stieltjes moment problem in the class of generalized Stieltjes functions is considered. To describe the set of solutions of this problem we apply the Schur step‐by‐step algorithm, which leads to the expansion of these solutions in generalized Stieltjes continuous fractions studied recently in [11]. Explicit formula for the resolvent matrix in terms of generalized Stieltjes polynomials is found.  相似文献

A general interpolation problem for operator-valued Stieltjes functions is studied using V. P. Potapov's method of fundamental matrix inequalities and the method of operator identities. The solvability criterion is established and under certain restrictions the set of all solutions is parametrized in terms of a linear fractional transformation. As applications of a general theory, a number of classical and new interpolation problems are considered.  相似文献

Mukherjea et al. [Mukherjea, A., Rao, M., Suen, S., 2006. A note on moment generating functions. Statist. Probab. Lett. 76, 1185-1189] proved that if a sequence of moment generating functions Mn(t) converges pointwise to a moment generating function M(t) for all t in some open interval of the real line, not necessarily containing the origin, then the distribution functions Fn (corresponding to Mn) converge weakly to the distribution function F (corresponding to M). In this note, we improve this result and obtain conditions of the convergence which seem to be sharp: Fn converge weakly to F if Mn(tk) converge to M(tk), k=1,2,…, for some sequence {t1,t2,…} having the minimal and the maximal points. A similar result holds for characteristic functions.  相似文献

In this work the problem of the approximate numerical determination of a semi-infinite supported, continuous probability density function (pdf) from a finite number of its moments is addressed. The target space is carefully defined and an approximation theorem is proved, establishing that the set of all convex superpositions of appropriate Kernel Density Functions (KDFs) is dense in this space. A solution algorithm is provided, based on the established approximate representation of the target pdf and the exploitation of some theoretical results concerning moment sequence asymptotics. The solution algorithm also permits us to recover the tail behavior of the target pdf and incorporate this information in our solution. A parsimonious formulation of the proposed solution procedure, based on a novel sequentially adaptive scheme is developed, enabling a very efficient moment data inversion. The whole methodology is fully illustrated by numerical examples.  相似文献

The Curtiss theorem deals with the relation between the weak convergence of probability measures on the line and the convergence of theirmoment generating functions in a neighborhood of zero. We present a multidimensional generalization of this result. To this end, we consider arbitrary σ-finite measures whose moment generating functions exist in a domain of multidimensional Euclidean space not necessarily containing zero. We also prove the corresponding converse statement.  相似文献
