We make use of the operator space structure of the Fourier algebra A(G) of an amenable locally compact group to prove that if H is any closed subgroup of G, then the ideal I(H) consisting of all functions in A(G) vanishing on H has a bounded approximate identity. This result allows us to completely characterize the ideals of A(G) with bounded approximate identities. We also show that for several classes of locally compact groups, including all nilpotent groups, I(H) has an approximate identity with norm bounded by 2, the best possible norm bound.  相似文献

Let G be a locally compact group, and let A(G) and VN(G) be its Fourier algebra and group von Neumann algebra, respectively. In this paper we consider the similarity problem for A(G): Is every bounded representation of A(G) on a Hilbert space H similar to a *-representation? We show that the similarity problem for A(G) has a negative answer if and only if there is a bounded representation of A(G) which is not completely bounded. For groups with small invariant neighborhoods (i.e. SIN groups) we show that a representation π:A(G)→B(H) is similar to a *-representation if and only if it is completely bounded. This, in particular, implies that corepresentations of VN(G) associated to non-degenerate completely bounded representations of A(G) are similar to unitary corepresentations. We also show that if G is a SIN, maximally almost periodic, or totally disconnected group, then a representation of A(G) is a *-representation if and only if it is a complete contraction. These results partially answer questions posed in Effros and Ruan (2003) [7] and Spronk (2002) [25].  相似文献

Let G be a compact nonmetrizable topological group whose local weight b(G) has uncountable cofinality. Let H be an amenable locally compact group, A(G×H) the Fourier algebra of G×H, and UC2(G×H) the space of uniformly continuous functionals in VN(G×H)=A(G×H). We use weak factorization of operators in the group von Neumann algebra VN(G×H) to prove that there exist at least 2b(G)2 left ideals of dimensions at least 2b(G)2 in A(G×H)∗∗ and in UC2(G×H). We show that every nontrivial right ideal in A(G×H)∗∗ and in UC2(G×H) has dimension at least 2b(G)2.  相似文献

A lemma stated in our earlier paper has been corrected without affecting the major content of that paper. An independent proof for the succeeding lemma in that paper has also been produced. It is be noted that given a graph G, the antipodal graph A(G) is uniquely defined, but given A(G), there exist more than one graph H such that A(H) = A(G).  相似文献

Let be a bounded convex domain, A−∞(G) be the (DFS)-space of all holomorphic functions of polynomial growth on G and A(G) be the Fréchet space of C-functions on closure of G which are holomorphic on G. With the help of the Laplace transform we describe the strong dual of A−∞(G) and prove that A−∞(G) is the unique (DFS)-space H such that the space A(G) is contained in H, H is embedded continuously in A−∞(G) and H is invariant under differentiation.  相似文献

Let A be an R G-module over a commutative ring R, where G is a group of infinite section p-rank (0-rank), C G (A) = 1, A is not a Noetherian R-module, and the quotient A/C A (H) is a Noetherian R-module for every proper subgroup H of infinite section p-rank (0-rank). We describe the structure of solvable groups G of this type.  相似文献

A graph is nonsingular if its adjacency matrix A(G) is nonsingular. The inverse of a nonsingular graph G is a graph whose adjacency matrix is similar to A(G)?1 via a particular type of similarity. Let H denote the class of connected bipartite graphs with unique perfect matchings. Tifenbach and Kirkland (2009) characterized the unicyclic graphs in H which possess unicyclic inverses. We present a characterization of unicyclic graphs in H which possess bicyclic inverses.  相似文献

Let ? be the ring of integers, and A be a ?G-module, where A/C A (G) is not a minimax ?-module, C G (A) = 1, and G is a locally soluble group. Let L nm(G) be the system of all subgroups H ?? G such that quotient modules A/C A (H) are not minimax Z-modules. The author studies ?G-modules A such that L nm(G) satisfies the minimal condition as an ordered set. It is proved that a locally soluble group G with these conditions is soluble. The structure of the group G is described.  相似文献

Malliavin's celebrated theorem on the failure of spectral synthesis for the Fourier algebra A(G) on nondiscrete abelian groups was strengthened to give failure of weak synthesis by Parthasarathy and Varma. We extend this to nonabelian groups by proving that weak synthesis holds for A(G) if and only if G is discrete. We give the injection theorem and the inverse projection theorem for weak X-spectral synthesis, as well as a condition for the union of two weak X-spectral sets to be weak X-spectral for an A(G)-submodule X of VN(G). Relations between weak X-synthesis in A(G) and A(G×G) and the Varopoulos algebra V(G) are explored. The concept of operator synthesis was introduced by Arveson. We extend several recent investigations on operator synthesis by defining and studying, for a V(G)-submodule M of B(L2(G)), sets of weak M-operator synthesis. Relations between X-Ditkin sets and M-operator Ditkin sets and between weak X-spectral synthesis and weak M-operator synthesis are explored.  相似文献

We study certain commutative regular semisimple Banach algebras which we call hyper-Tauberian algebras. We first show that they form a subclass of weakly amenable Tauberian algebras. Then we investigate the basic and hereditary properties of them. Moreover, we show that if A is a hyper-Tauberian algebra, then the linear space of bounded derivations from A into any Banach A-bimodule is reflexive. We apply these results to the Figà-Talamanca-Herz algebra Ap(G) of a locally compact group G for p∈(1,∞). We show that Ap(G) is hyper-Tauberian if the principal component of G is abelian. Finally, by considering the quantization of these results, we show that for any locally compact group G, Ap(G), equipped with an appropriate operator space structure, is a quantized hyper-Tauberian algebra. This, in particular, implies that Ap(G) is operator weakly amenable.  相似文献

Let G be a locally compact group, and let R(G) denote the ring of subsets of G generated by the left cosets of open subsets of G. The Cohen-Host idempotent theorem asserts that a set lies in R(G) if and only if its indicator function is a coefficient function of a unitary representation of G on some Hilbert space. We prove related results for representations of G on certain Banach spaces. We apply our Cohen-Host type theorems to the study of the Figà-Talamanca-Herz algebras Ap(G) with p∈(1,∞). For arbitrary G, we characterize those closed ideals of Ap(G) that have an approximate identity bounded by 1 in terms of their hulls. Furthermore, we characterize those G such that Ap(G) is 1-amenable for some—and, equivalently, for all—p∈(1,∞): these are precisely the abelian groups.  相似文献

Let G be a simple graph with adjacency matrix A, and p(x) a polynomial with rational coefficients. If p(A) is the adjacency matrix of a graph, we denote that graph by p(G). We consider the question: Given a graph G, which polynomials p(x) give rise to a graph p(G) and what are those graphs? We give a complete answer if G is a distance-regular graph. We then derive some general relations between the polynomials p(x), the spectrum of A, and the automorphism group of G.  相似文献

Let G be a compact group whose local weight b(G) has uncountable cofinality. Let H be an amenable locally compact group and A(G × H) be the Fourier algebra of G × H. We prove that the group von Neumann algebra VN(G × H) = A(G × H)* has the weak uniform A(G × H)** factorization property of level b(G). As a corollary we show that A(G × H) is strongly Arens irregular, and the topological centre of UC 2(G × H)* is equal to the Fourier–Stieltjes algebra B(G × H).  相似文献

Suppose that G is an undirected graph, and that H is a spanning subgraph of Gc whose edges induce a subgraph on p vertices. We consider the expression α(GH)-α(G), where α denotes the algebraic connectivity. Specifically, we provide upper and lower bounds on α(GH)-α(G) in terms of p, and characterise the corresponding equality cases. We also discuss the density of the expression α(GH)-α(G) in the interval [0,p]. A bound on α(GH)-α(G) is provided in a special case, and several examples are considered.  相似文献

Let G be a finite group and cd(G) be the set of all complex irreducible character degrees of G. Bertram Huppert conjectured that if H is a finite nonabelian simple group such that cd(G) = cd(H), then G???H × A, where A is an abelian group. In this paper, we verify the conjecture for the family of simple exceptional groups of Lie type 3 D 4(q), when q?≥?3.  相似文献

We study the de-equivariantization of a Hopf algebra by an affine group scheme and we apply Tannakian techniques in order to realize it as the tensor category of comodules over a coquasi-bialgebra. As an application we construct a family of coquasi-Hopf algebras A(H, G, Φ) attached to a coradically-graded pointed Hopf algebra H and some extra data.  相似文献

Let G be a finite group and G p be a Sylow p-subgroup of G for a prime p in π(G), the set of all prime divisors of the order of G. The automiser A p (G) is defined to be the group N G (G p )/G p C G (G p ). We define the Sylow graph Γ A (G) of the group G, with set of vertices π(G), as follows: Two vertices p, qπ(G) form an edge of Γ A (G) if either qπ(A p (G)) or pπ(A q (G)). The following result is obtained Theorem: Let G be a finite almost simple group. Then the graph Γ A (G) is connected and has diameter at most 5. We also show how this result can be applied to derive information on the structure of a group from the normalizers of its Sylow subgroups.  相似文献

Let α(G) and χ(G) denote the independence number and chromatic number of a graph G, respectively. Let G×H be the direct product graph of graphs G and H. We show that if G and H are circular graphs, Kneser graphs, or powers of cycles, then α(G×H)=max{α(G)|V(H)|,α(H)|V(G)|} and χ(G×H)=min{χ(G),χ(H)}.  相似文献
