We continue our study [S. Smale, D.X. Zhou, Shannon sampling and function reconstruction from point values, Bull. Amer. Math. Soc. 41 (2004) 279–305] of Shannon sampling and function reconstruction. In this paper, the error analysis is improved. Then we show how our approach can be applied to learning theory: a functional analysis framework is presented; dimension independent probability estimates are given not only for the error in the L2 spaces, but also for the error in the reproducing kernel Hilbert space where the learning algorithm is performed. Covering number arguments are replaced by estimates of integral operators.  相似文献

A general theory of implicit difference schemes for nonlinear functional differential equations with initial boundary conditions is presented. A theorem on error estimates of approximate solutions for implicit functional difference equations of the Volterra type with an unknown function of several variables is given. This general result is employed to investigate the stability of implicit difference schemes generated by first-order partial differential functional equations and by parabolic problems. A comparison technique with nonlinear estimates of the Perron type for given functions with respect to the functional variable is used.  相似文献

We propose a new functional single index model, which called dynamic single-index model for functional data, or DSIM, to efficiently perform non-linear and dynamic relationships between functional predictor and functional response. The proposed model naturally allows for some curvature not captured by the ordinary functional linear model. By using the proposed two-step estimating algorithm, we develop the estimates for both the link function and the regression coefficient function, and then provide predictions of new response trajectories. Besides the asymptotic properties for the estimates of the unknown functions, we also establish the consistency of the predictions of new response trajectories under mild conditions. Finally, we show through extensive simulation studies and a real data example that the proposed DSIM can highly outperform existed functional regression methods in most settings.  相似文献

In this article, functional type a posteriori error estimates are presented for a certain class of optimal control problems with elliptic partial differential equation constraints. It is assumed that in the cost functional the state is measured in terms of the energy norm generated by the state equation. The functional a posteriori error estimates developed by Repin in the late 1990s are applied to estimate the cost function value from both sides without requiring the exact solution of the state equation. Moreover, a lower bound for the minimal cost functional value is derived. A meaningful error quantity coinciding with the gap between the cost functional values of an arbitrary admissible control and the optimal control is introduced. This error quantity can be estimated from both sides using the estimates for the cost functional value. The theoretical results are confirmed by numerical tests.  相似文献

This paper presents a fuzzy model-based adaptive approach for synchronization of chaotic systems which consist of the drive and response systems. Takagi–Sugeno (T–S) fuzzy model is employed to represent the chaotic drive and response systems. Since the parameters of the drive system are assumed unknown, we design the response system that estimates the parameters of the drive system by adaptive strategy. The adaptive law is derived to estimate the unknown parameters and its stability is guaranteed by Lyapunov stability theory. In addition, the controller in the response system contains two parts: one part that can stabilize the synchronization error dynamics and the other part that estimates the unknown parameters. Numerical examples, including Duffing oscillator and Lorenz attractor, are given to demonstrate the validity of the proposed adaptive synchronization approach.  相似文献

In this note, we obtain new estimates for integrals of a generalized-Poisson-distribution characteristic function over intervals of sufficiently small length. Typical applications of such estimates are the following ones: evaluation of the convergence rate of moments in the CLT, estimates of concentration functions, and local limit theorems. We establish limit theorems involving weak convergence of multiple generations of critical and supercritical branching processes. These results arise naturally when dealing with the joint asymptotic behavior of functionals defined in terms of several generations of such processes. Applications of our main result include a functional central limit theorem (CLT), a Darling–Erdös result, and an extremal process result. The limiting process for our functional CLT is an infinite dimensional Brownian motion with sample paths in the infinite product space (C 0[0,1]), with the product topology, or in Banach subspaces of (C 0[0,1]) determined by norms related to the distribution of the population size of the branching process. As an application of this CLT we obtain a central limit theorem for ratios of weighted sums of generations of a branching processes, and also to various maximums of these generations. The Darling–Erdös result and the application to extremal distributions also include infinite-dimensional limit laws. Some branching process examples where the CLT fails are also included.  相似文献

We study the accuracy of estimation of unknown parameters in the case of two-step statistical estimates admitting special representations. An approach to the study of such problems previously proposed by the authors is extended to the case of the estimation of a multidimensional parameter. As a result, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the weak convergence of the normalized estimation error to a multidimensional normal distribution.  相似文献

A new functional type a posteriori error estimates for the Stokes problem with rotating term are presented. The estimates give guaranteed upper bounds for the energy norm of the error and provide reliable error indication. Computational properties of the estimates are demonstrated by a number of numerical examples. Researchers rely on the distance function to model multiple product production using multiple inputs. A stochastic directional distance function (SDDF) allows for noise in potentially all input and output variables. Yet, when estimated, the direction selected will affect the functional estimates because deviations from the estimated function are minimized in the specified direction. Specifically, the parameters of the parametric SDDF are point identified when the direction is specified; we show that the parameters of the parametric SDDF are set identified when multiple directions are considered. Further, the set of identified parameters can be narrowed via data-driven approaches to restrict the directions considered. We demonstrate a similar narrowing of the identified parameter set for a shape constrained nonparametric method, where the shape constraints impose standard features of a cost function such as monotonicity and convexity. Our Monte Carlo simulation studies reveal significant improvements, as measured by out of sample radial mean squared error, in functional estimates when we use a directional distance function with an appropriately selected direction and the errors are uncorrelated across variables. We show that these benefits increase as the correlation in error terms across variables increase. This correlation is a type of endogeneity that is common in production settings. From our Monte Carlo simulations we conclude that selecting a direction that is approximately orthogonal to the estimated function in the central region of the data gives significantly better estimates relative to the directions commonly used in the literature. For practitioners, our results imply that selecting a direction vector that has non-zero components for all variables that may have measurement error provides a significant improvement in the estimator’s performance. We illustrate these results using cost and production data from samples of approximately 500 US hospitals per year operating in 2007, 2008, and 2009, respectively, and find that the shape constrained nonparametric methods provide a significant increase in flexibility over second order local approximation parametric methods.  相似文献

This paper studies estimation in partial functional linear quantile regression in which the dependent variable is related to both a vector of finite length and a function-valued random variable as predictor variables. The slope function is estimated by the functional principal component basis. The asymptotic distribution of the estimator of the vector of slope parameters is derived and the global convergence rate of the quantile estimator of unknown slope function is established under suitable norm. It is showed that this rate is optimal in a minimax sense under some smoothness assumptions on the covariance kernel of the covariate and the slope function. The convergence rate of the mean squared prediction error for the proposed estimators is also be established. Finite sample properties of our procedures are studied through Monte Carlo simulations. A real data example about Berkeley growth data is used to illustrate our proposed methodology.  相似文献

A statistical method is proposed for estimating derivatives with respect to parameters of a functional of a diffusion process moving in a domain with absorbing boundary. The functional considered defines the probability representation of the solution of a corresponding parabolic first boundary-value problem. The problem posed is tackled by numerically solving stochastic differential equations (SDE) using the Euler method. An error of the proposed method is evaluated, and estimates of the variance of the resultant parametric derivatives are given. Some numerical results are presented.  相似文献

We propose a new least squares finite element method to solve the Stokes problem with two sequential steps. The approximation spaces are constructed by the patch reconstruction with one unknown per element. For the first step, we reconstruct an approximation space consisting of piecewise curl-free polynomials with zero trace. By this space, we minimize a least squares functional to obtain the numerical approximations to the gradient of the velocity and the pressure. In the second step, we minimize another least squares functional to give the solution to the velocity in the reconstructed piecewise divergence-free space. We derive error estimates for all unknowns under both $L^2$ norms and energy norms. Numerical results in two dimensions and three dimensions verify the convergence rates and demonstrate the great flexibility of our method.  相似文献

We consider an algebraic method for reconstruction of a function satisfying the Poisson equation with a polynomial right-hand side in the unit disk. The given data, besides the right-hand side, is assumed to be in the form of a finite number of values of Radon projections of the unknown function. We first homogenize the problem by finding a polynomial which satisfies the given Poisson equation. This leads to an interpolation problem for a harmonic function, which we solve in the space of harmonic polynomials using a previously established method. For the special case where the Radon projections are taken along chords that form a regular convex polygon, we extend the error estimates from the harmonic case to this Poisson problem. Finally we give some numerical examples.  相似文献

Sard's classical generalization of the Peano kernel theorem provides an extremely useful method for expressing and calculating sharp bounds for approximation errors. The error is expressed in terms of a derivative of the underlying function. However, we can apply the theorem only if the approximation is exact on a certain set of polynomials.

In this paper, we extend the Peano-Sard theorem to the case that the approximation is exact for a class of generalized polynomials (with non-integer exponents). As a result, we obtain an expression for the remainder in terms of a fractional derivative of the function under consideration. This expression permits us to give sharp error bounds as in the classical situation. An application of our results to the classical functional (vanishing on polynomials) gives error bounds of a new type involving weighted Sobolev-type spaces. In this way, we may state estimates for functions with weaker smoothness properties than usual.

The standard version of the Peano-Sard theory is contained in our results as a special case.  相似文献

This study presents some quantitative evidence from a number of simulation experiments on the accuracy of the productivity growth estimates derived from growth accounting (GA) and frontier-based methods (namely data envelopment analysis-, corrected ordinary least squares-, and stochastic frontier analysis-based malmquist indices) under various conditions. These include the presence of technical inefficiency, measurement error, misspecification of the production function (for the GA and parametric approaches) and increased input and price volatility from one period to the next. The study finds that the frontier-based methods usually outperform GA, but the overall performance varies by experiment. Parametric approaches generally perform best when there is no functional form misspecification, but their accuracy greatly diminishes otherwise. The results also show that the deterministic approaches perform adequately even under conditions of (modest) measurement error and when measurement error becomes larger, the accuracy of all approaches (including stochastic approaches) deteriorates rapidly, to the point that their estimates could be considered unreliable for policy purposes.  相似文献

In the context of semi-functional partial linear regression model, we study the problem of error density estimation. The unknown error density is approximated by a mixture of Gaussian densities with means being the individual residuals, and variance a constant parameter. This mixture error density has a form of a kernel density estimator of residuals, where the regression function, consisting of parametric and nonparametric components, is estimated by the ordinary least squares and functional Nadaraya–Watson estimators. The estimation accuracy of the ordinary least squares and functional Nadaraya–Watson estimators jointly depends on the same bandwidth parameter. A Bayesian approach is proposed to simultaneously estimate the bandwidths in the kernel-form error density and in the regression function. Under the kernel-form error density, we derive a kernel likelihood and posterior for the bandwidth parameters. For estimating the regression function and error density, a series of simulation studies show that the Bayesian approach yields better accuracy than the benchmark functional cross validation. Illustrated by a spectroscopy data set, we found that the Bayesian approach gives better point forecast accuracy of the regression function than the functional cross validation, and it is capable of producing prediction intervals nonparametrically.  相似文献

In this article we consider three problems: 1. The asymptotic behaviour of the quadratic moment of the exponential divisor function. 2. The distribution of powerful integers of type 4. 3. The average number of direct factors of a finite Abelian group. We prove new estimates for the error terms in the asymptotic representations. For this purpose new estimates in the general four-dimensional divisor problem are needed.  相似文献

Classical Edgeworth expansions provide asymptotic correction terms to the Central Limit Theorem (CLT) up to an order that depends on the number of moments available. In this paper, we provide subsequent correction terms beyond those given by a standard Edgeworth expansion in the general case of regularly varying distributions with diverging moments (beyond the second). The subsequent terms can be expressed in a simple closed form in terms of certain special functions (Dawson’s integral and parabolic cylinder functions), and there are qualitative differences depending on whether the number of moments available is even, odd, or not an integer, and whether the distributions are symmetric or not. If the increments have an even number of moments, then additional logarithmic corrections must also be incorporated in the expansion parameter. An interesting feature of our correction terms for the CLT is that they become dominant outside the central region and blend naturally with known large-deviation asymptotics when these are applied formally to the spatial scales of the CLT.  相似文献
