By the classical Halmos‐von Neumann theorem, each compact monothetic group corresponds to an ergodic dynamical system with discrete spectrum. For such groups we prove two results. We first construct a compact monothetic group which does not split into a direct product of a connected and a totally disconnected compact monothetic group. Then we present a measure preserving dynamical system on the unit square being isomorphic to a rotation on this indecomposable group.  相似文献

We collect examples of Valdivia compact spaces, their continuous images and associated classes of Banach spaces which appear naturally in various branches of mathematics. The existence of homeomorphisms establishign an isometry of normalized Haar measures on (metrizable) compact groups is studied. In the case of 0-dimensional groups, a complete answer is given in terms of the indices of open normal subgroups. For example, for the countable powers of the groups ℤ/(m) and ℤ/(n), the answer is affirmative if and only ifm andn have the same prime divisors. We show that every abelian topological group contains many interesting sets which are both compact and sequentially compact. Then we can deduce some useful facts, e.g.,
(1)
if G is a Hausdorff abelian topological group and μ:N2G is countably additive, then the range μ(N2)={μ(A):AN} is compact metrizable;
(2)
if X is a Hausdorff locally convex space and {xj}⊂X, then F={j∈Δxj:Δ⊂N, Δ is finite} is relatively compact in (X,weak) if and only if F is relatively compact in X, and if and only if F is relatively compact in (X,F(M)) where F(M) is the Dierolf topology which is the strongest 〈X,X〉-polar topology having the same subseries convergent series as the weak topology.

We construct a pseudocompact meta-Lindelöf space which is not compact. This contrasts with the results that pseudocompact metacompact spaces are compact (Scott, Forster, Watson) and that pseudocompact para-Lindelöf spaces are compact (Burke, Davis). We investigate shift invariant subspaces of L2(G), where G is a locally compact abelian group. We show, among other things, that every shift invariant space can be decomposed as an orthogonal sum of spaces each of which is generated by a single function whose shifts form a Parseval frame.  相似文献

Some thirteen years ago S. B. Nadler, Jr. and L. E. Ward, Jr., asked if any treelike continuum could be the 2-to-1 image of a continuum. In fact, it has been conjectured that the property of being treelike characterizes those continua that are not the 2-to-1 image of any continuum. But the characterization must be something else; this paper shows that many pseudo-solenoids are not the 2-to-1 image of any continuum.

We consider finite-sheeted covering maps from 2-dimensional compact connected abelian groups to Klein bottle weak solenoidal spaces, metric continua which are not groups. We show that whenever a group covers a Klein bottle weak solenoidal space it covers groups as well, moreover it covers the product of two solenoids. The converse is not true, we give an example of group which covers groups with any finite number of sheets, but does not cover any Klein bottle weak solenoidal space.  相似文献

It is shown under CH that there exists a countably compact topological semigroup with two-sided cancellation which is not a topological group. Wallace's question" of 40 years standing is thus settled in the negative unless CH is explicitly denied. The example is a topological subsemigroup of an uncountable product of circle groups.

For solving complex flow field with multi-scale structure higher order accurate schemes are preferred. Among high order schemes the compact schemes have higher resolving efficiency. When the compact and upwind compact schemes are used to solve aerodynamic problems there are numerical oscillations near the shocks. The reason of oscillation production is because of non-uniform group velocity of wave packets in numerical solutions. For improvement of resolution of the shock a parameter function is introduced in compact scheme to control the group velocity. The newly developed method is simple. In this paper we prove thatC(X,Y) is an absolute retract ifX is a locally compact separable metric space andY a convex set in a Banach space.
