为提高光的偏振实验教学效果和教学质量,在教学中引入专业的光学设计软件--TracePro,利用该软件仿真了光的双折射过程和现象,以及偏振片的原理;建立光的偏振实验系统实体模型,完成光的偏振态判断实验;仿真光通过波片后的偏振态转换现象;验证马吕斯定律,并仿真了多层介质膜对光的分离和旋光现象.结果表明该方法可以提高教学效率,激发学生探索科学的主观能动性,仿真结论与理论推导和实际实验结果一致.  相似文献

The current-induced optical activity in a tellurium single crystal has been experimentally investigated in the mid-infrared spectral region. The phenomenological theory of the current-induced optical activity has been considered and the microscopic mechanism of this phenomenon has been described. The dependence of the degree of spin polarization of holes in tellurium on the electric current density has been determined. An approximate analytical expression relating the current-induced optical activity to the degree of spin polarization of holes has been obtained.  相似文献

针对单强度调制偏振光谱测量技术存在混叠且有效光程差有限的缺点,提出双强度调制偏振光谱测量新方法,该方法通过双强度调制干涉信号的和差处理,即保证单强度调制偏振光谱测量的优点,又能有效消除混叠现象,提高有效光程差和光谱分辨率,再对和差处理后的干涉信号进行傅里叶变换即可得到被测偏振光谱。文章对双强度调制偏振光谱测量方法进行了理论推导,并通过MATLAB对模拟入射光偏振光谱的干涉信号和傅里叶反演光谱进行仿真;仿真结果显示,该方法和差处理后可有效消除混叠且有效光程差提高一倍。通过理论分析和仿真验证了该方法的可行性,为进一步的工程实现提供理论支撑。  相似文献

A particular example of the so-called minimum-configuration fiber ring interferometer whose loop comprises two different-length segments of a single-mode optical fiber with the same linear birefringence but different twisting is used to show that even in the case where the birefringence axes at the loop input coincide with the polarizer transmission direction, the phenomenon of polarization nonreciprocity of the fiber ring interferometer can emerge. It is shown that polarization nonreciprocity can be eliminated by the proper adjustment of the axes of a single-mode optical fiber, but the above adjustment should be changed if the waveguide temperature is changed. It is also shown that polarization nonreciprocity is a function of the light wavelength and the polarization nonreciprocity value in a fiber ring interferometer varies quasiperiodically in response to the temperature change in an optical fiber with random irregularities.  相似文献

We demonstrate experimentally an optical process in which the spin angular momentum carried by a circularly polarized light beam is converted into orbital angular momentum, leading to the generation of helical modes with a wave-front helicity controlled by the input polarization. This phenomenon requires the interaction of light with matter that is both optically inhomogeneous and anisotropic. The underlying physics is also associated with the so-called Pancharatnam-Berry geometrical phases involved in any inhomogeneous transformation of the optical polarization.  相似文献

The polarization state is modulated by tilting birefringence component placed in the feedback external cavity.The variation of the polarization state in one period of modulation is found to be similar to sine wave.The periods become increasingly smaller.The maximum of variation in one period decreases against the rotated angle.The experimental phenomenon is subjected to the change of optical path and secondary reflection.The phenomenon is analyzed theoretically based on geometrical optics and crystal optics.High-accuracy measurements of absolute and relative angles can be realized based on the experimental phenomenon.The angle resolution is 0.1 arcsec in theory.  相似文献

Owing to differences in the selection rules of electron transitions between TE and TM modes in a quantum well structure, and optical amplifier with such a structure manifests linear birefringence and anisotropy of gain-absorption saturation. The anisotropy leads to the evolution of power-dependent polarization in the optical amplifier. We demonstrate experimentally efficient non-linear self-switching based on this phenomenon in an InGaAs/GaAs single quantum well amplifier. Also, by utilizing the non-linear polarization evolution, we show numerically passive mode-locking of a semiconductor laser with a ring cavity.  相似文献

与传统的旋光效应理论不同,采用三阶赝张量κ(2)jkl描述旋光现象,并将相关的电极化强度作微扰处理,直接从Maxwell方程组出发推导出了双折射晶体中自然旋光效应的耦合波方程组并得到解析解.该解析解包含了已有的旋光效应宏观理论结果,可方便地用于描述任意偏振态的单色光波在任意点群的双折射旋光晶体中沿任意方向的传播行为.最后,以石英晶体为例,通过对出射光波的偏振态分析,研究了波矢失配对旋光效应的影响. 关键词: 耦合波理论 旋光效应 非线性光学  相似文献

A new light-scattering phenomenon from a planar aligned nematic liquid-crystal film is observed and studied. This new phenomenon exhibits ring patterns in the orthogonal polarization. A ring resonator coupled to a waveguide can be used as a highly efficient polarization converter when the input is properly polarized. The strain-induced piezoelectric polarization and the spontaneous polarization can be reduced effectively using the applied electric field in the CdZnO/ZnMgO quantum well (QW) structure with high Cd composition. That is, optical properties as a function of internal and external fields in the CdZnO/ZnMgO QW with various applied electric field result in the increased optical gain due to the fact that the QW potential profile is flattened as a result of the compensation of the internal field by the reverse field as confirmed. These results demonstrate that a high-performance optical device operation can be realized in CdZnO/MgZnO QW structures by reducing the droop phenomenon.  相似文献

We have studied analytically the ultrafast optical response of GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wire subjected to a moderately strong transverse magnetic field. The energy dispersion relations have been numerically calculated and show a significant deviation from parabolic behaviour as the magnetic field is increased. The effective semiconductor Bloch equation technique is used to calculate the induced polarization and differential transmission spectra in the quantum wire. The calculated induced polarization is used to study the optical coherent transient phenomenon of optical nutation. The analysis demonstrates that the magnetic field effectively alters the optical response of the semiconductor quantum wire nanostructures. It is observed that the nutating signal frequency enhances with an increasing magnetic field. The results are useful to explain magnetic field effects on the transient optical properties of semiconductor nanostructures.  相似文献

Experiments have yielded polarization self-modulation in vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) subject to a pi/2 polarization-rotating optical feedback. The phenomenon has been simulated numerically, but its bifurcation has never been explained. We show that polarization self-modulation results from a Hopf bifurcation mechanism that can be analyzed in terms of the laser feedback parameters. Our analysis predicts other bifurcations for low values of the feedback rate, which explain why more-complex time-dependent outputs have been observed as alternatives to polarization self-modulation.  相似文献

Changes in polarization properties of partially polarized, partially coherent vectorial cosh-Gaussian (ChG) beams propagating in oceanic turbulence are studied with the unified theory of coherence and polarization. Numerical examples of changes in optical intensity and polarization properties such as the degree of polarization, orientation angle, and degree of ellipticity of the beam propagating in the turbulent ocean are given. We find that both parameters of the source and oceanic turbulence have an effect upon the polarization properties of the beam. The degree of polarization fluctuates when the ChG beam propagates in the oceanic turbulence, and it has an obvious reconstruction phenomenon in the far-field zone.  相似文献

The physics behind the spin (polarization)-dependent electromagnetic hot-spot phenomenon is due to the presence of the geometric phase resulting from the optical spin-orbit interaction in the interaction of light with the subwavelength microstructures. Unlike the tiny spin-dependent shift of light associated with the usual spin-Hall effect of light, here we present the distinct polarization-dependent angular shift by employing an array of subwavelength metallic apertures. More importantly, this novel electromagnetic precession is accompanied by the extraordinary optical transmission phenomenon and offers the exciting possibilities for novel applications for subwavelength structured metallic systems.  相似文献

Presented in this work is a modified geometric optics of smoothly inhomogeneous isotropic medium, which takes into account weak anisotropy introduced by inhomogeneity. Pointed out is the common nature of two fundamental phenomena: Berry’s geometrical phase and the optical Magnus effect, that is, propagation of rays of right and left circular polarization along different trajectories. Shown is that the former phenomenon can be explained by the difference in phase velocity of waves of right-hand and left-hand polarizations, while the latter one is the result of the difference in their group velocity. This work demonstrates that the optical Magnus effect is quite a topological effect that exclusively depends on the geometry of the system’s contour in the momentum space. We predict the effect of the splitting of a ray of mixed polarization into two circularly polarized rays and propose a scheme for the experimental observation of this phenomenon.  相似文献

Optical properties of metallic edge-like structures known as knife-edges are a topic of interest and possess potential applications in enhanced Raman scattering, optical trapping, etc. In this work, we investigate the near-field optical polarization response at the edge of a triangular gold nanosheet, which is synthesized by a wet chemical method. A homemade scanning near-field optical microscope(SNOM) in collection mode is adopted, which is able to accurately locate its probe at the edge during experiments. An uncoated straight fiber probe is used in the SNOM, because it still preserves the property of light polarization though it has the depolarization to some extent. By comparing near-field intensities at the edge and glass substrate, detected in different polarization directions of incident light, the edge-induced depolarization is found,which is supported by the finite differential time domain(FDTD) simulated results. The depolarized phenomenon in the near-field is similar to that in the far-field.  相似文献
