Polarons in a cylindrical quantum well wire with finite confining potential   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The polaron self-energy and the correction to the electron effective mass in a cylindrical quantum well wire (QWW) are studied by the perturbation approach. The interactions of electrons with different phonon modes in the QWW system, including the confined longitudinal optical phonon modes, in the wire (LO1), in the barrier materials (LO2) and in the interface optical (IO) phonon modes, are considered. The result shows that the LO1 phonon’s contribution to the polaron self-energy increases gradually as the radius of the wire increases, and finally reaches that of the three-dimensional limit, while the LO2 phonon contributes only when the radius of the wire is very small. Also, the contribution of the IO phonon modes first increases quickly as the wire radius increases and soon reaches a maximum, then reduces to zero monotonically.  相似文献

We have investigated one phonon resonant Raman scattering in GaN nanowires (NWs) with ring geometry. We consider the Fröhlich electron–phonon interaction in the framework of the dielectric continuum approach. The selection rules are studied. For the GaN NWs with small radius, results reveal that the main contribution to the differential cross-section (DCS) stems from the surface optical (SO) phonons especially from the high-frequency of SO phonons, with a minor contribution from the longitudinal optical (LO) phonons. Meanwhile, dispersions of the two branches of the SO phonon modes are obvious when the wire is thin. Moreover, compared to GaAs NWs, the GaN NWs make more contribution to the DCS in the small quantum size.  相似文献

Electron–phonon effects on the two first electronic states in both CdS and GaAs quantum dots are investigated. Both confined longitudinal optical (LO) and surface optical (SO) phonons are considered. We use the intermediate-type variational approach. We find that, shifts caused by phonon contribution on electronic energies are more significant for CdS quantum dot. We find, also, that, contrary to GaAs based quantum dots, we shouldn’t neglect the SO phonon contribution for CdS based ones, especially for small dots.  相似文献

The variational method and the effective mass approximation are applied to calculate the binding energies of the hydrogenic impurity states in a cylindrical quantum wire with finite deep potential well. The phonon effects on the impurity states are considered by taking both the couplings of the electron-phonon and the impurity ion-phonon into account. The numerical results for the GaAs cylindrical quantum wire are given and discussed. It is found that the ion-phonon interaction reduces the impurity binding energy and supplies key contribution to the energy shift, but the electron-phonon coupling enhances the binding energy less. Longitudinal optical (LO) phonons play more important role than interface optical (IO) phonons in the impurity potential screening. The polaron effect caused by LO phonons is more important when the wire is thinner, otherwise the LO phonons are dominant for the thicker wires.  相似文献

The effective Hamiltonian and the renormalized mass of surface polaron, where the electron is strongly coupled with the surface optical (SO) phonons but weakly or intermediately coupled with the bulk longit udinal-optical (LO) phonons, were first reviewed. The self-energy and the renormalized mass of the polaron for the polar crystals of potassium iodide, silver chloride and silver bromide are evaluated as a function of the depth Gom the crystal surface. Results of our calculation indicate that the effect of the electron-SO phonon interaction is dominant only within a very small layer from the crystal surface. The confined longitudinal-optical (LO) phonon and surface-optical (SO) phonon modes of a free-standing quantum wire with ring geometry are discussed within the dielectric continuum (DC) approximation. Two branches of SO phonon modes have been investigated. The frequencies of the SO phonons are found to be dispersed and radius dependent for small size systems. When the wave vector qz→∞, the frequencies of each SO modes converge to the frequency values of the single planar heterostructure.  相似文献

采用有效质量近似下的变分法,考虑到电子同时与表面光学声子和体纵光学声子相互作用,研究了无限深量子阱中极化子的表面光学声子平均数,体纵光学声子平均数和光学声子平均数。讨论了电子与体纵光学声子耦合强度α,阱宽L和势垒材料AlxGa1-xAs中Al的含量x对上述光学声子平均数的影响。以GaAs/AlxGa1-xAs量子阱为例进行了数值计算。结果表明:量子阱中表面光学声子平均数随耦合强度α,阱宽L和Al含量x增大而增大。量子阱中体纵光学声子平均数随耦合强度α,阱宽L的增大而增大。光学声子平均数随耦合强度α,阱宽L和Al含量x的增大而增大。  相似文献

The effect of an electric field on the basic parameters of confined and interfacepolarons in cylindrical nanowires embedded in a non-polar matrix are studied theoreticallyfor the first time. By using the Lee, Low, and Pines variational method, the analyticalexpressions for the quasi-one-dimensional Fröhlich polaron self-energy and effective massare obtained as functions of the wire radius and the strength of the electric fieldapplied perpendicular to the wire axis. We have shown that the polaron self-energy as wellas effective mass strongly depents on both the strengths of the electric field and on thewire radius. This will be taken into account in the interpretation of optical phenomenarelated to polaron motion in cylindrical nanowire, when the effect of an applied electricfield competes with the spatial quantum confinement.  相似文献

We have study the simultaneous effect of Rashba and Dresselhaus spin–orbit interactions on the polaron properties in wurtzite semiconductor quantum wells. The linear and cubic contributions of the bulk Dresselhaus spin–orbit coupling and the effects of phonon confinement on electron–optical-phonon interaction Hamiltonians are taken into account. We have found analytical solutions for the polaron energies as well as polaron effective mass within the range of validity of perturbation theory. It is shown that the polaron energy and effective mass correction are both significantly enhanced by the spin–orbit coupling. Wave number dependent phonon contribution on the electron energy has minima and varies differently of the spin-up and spin-down states. Polaron self-energy due to interface optical phonon modes has larger values than of the confined optical phonon modes ones. The polaron effective mass exhibits anisotropy and the contribution of the Dresselhaus spin–orbit coupling term on the polaron effective mass is dominated by Rashba one.  相似文献

This paper presents a study of the cyclotron resonance of the interface polarons in a semiinfinite polar crystal. In the resonant magnetic field region the Landau-level corrections due to the resonant coupling of the electron with the bulk longitudinal-optical (LO) phonon and the surface optical (SO) phonon are calculated. At resonance the n-th Landau level (n > 0) splits into a triplet. The cyclotron-resonance mass of the electron is evaluated for an arbitrary magnetic-field strength. For the interface system the magneto-optical anomalies display three branches of the cyclotron-resonance mass spectra. The numerical results show that in the interface system the polaron effect is weakened with respect to the ideal twodimensional system. It is found that in the very weak magnetic fields the polaron effect is contributed mainly by the SO phonons, whereas in the large magnetic fields the LO-phonon contribution to the polaron.effect becomes predominant.  相似文献

Summary  The energy of an electron interacting with the confined longitudinaloptical (LO) phonons in a rectangular quantum well wire is calculated as a function of the length of one size of the wires by a modified Lee-Low-Pines variational method. It is shown that in a very small wire the electron self-energy has a peak. But for larger wires, the self-energies increase monotonically. It is also found that the energies of the quasi-one-dimensional polaron are related to the sizes of the crosssection rather than to the cross-sectional area of the wire. The authors of this paper have agreed to not receive the proofs for correction.  相似文献

The problem of bound polarons in quantum dot quantum well (QDQW) structures is studied theoretically. The eigenfrequencies of bulk longitudinal optical (LO) and surface optical (SO) modes are derived in the framework of the dielectric continuum approximation. The electron--phonon interaction Hamiltonian for QDQW structures is obtained and the exchange interaction between impurity and LO-phonons is discussed. The binding energy and the trapping energy of the bound polaron in CdS/HgS QDQW structures are calculated. The numerical results reveal that there exist three branches of eigenfrequencies of surface optical vibration in the CdS/HgS QDQW structure. It is also shown that the binding energy and the trapping energy increase as the inner radius of the QDQW structure decreases, with the outer radius fixed, and the trapping energy takes a major part of the binding energy when the inner radius is very small.  相似文献

The binding energy of a bound polaron in a spherical quantum dot has been investigated by using the variational method. The influence of LO and SO phonons have taken into consideration. Result shows that the phonon contribution to the binding energy is dependent on the size of the quantum dot as well as the position of the impurity in the quantum dot. Numerical calculation on the ZnSe quantum dot shows that such contribution is about 5% to 20% of the total binding energy. The effects of the interaction between electron and bulk longitudinal optical (LO) phonon and surface optical (SO) phonon on the impurity binding energy of the ground state in a polar crystal slab within an external electric field are derived by using the method of a variational wavefunction. The binding energy of the bound polaron is obtained as a function of the impurity position, the slab thickness and the electric field strength. It is found that the polaronic correction to the impurity binding energy by the SO phonon may be enhanced and that by the LO phonon may be reduced with increasing electric field strength. And the effect of the electron-phonon interaction is quite important in increasing the values of binding energy.  相似文献
