A study is reported on the effect of temperature and elastic vibration amplitude on Young’s modulus E and internal friction in Si3N4 and BN ceramic samples and Si3N4/BN monoliths obtained by hot pressing of BN-coated Si3N4 fibers. The fibers were arranged along, across, or both along and across the specimen axis. The E measurements were carried out under thermal cycling within the 20–600°C range. It was found that high-modulus silicon-nitride specimens possess a high thermal stability; the E(T) dependences obtained under heating and cooling coincide well with one another. The low-modulus BN ceramic exhibits a considerable hysteresis, thus indicating evolution of the defect structure under the action of thermoelastic (internal) stresses. Monoliths demonstrate a qualitatively similar behavior (with hysteresis). This behavior of the elastic modulus is possible under microplastic deformation initiated by internal stresses. The presence of microplastic shear in all the materials studied is supported by the character of the amplitude dependences of internal friction and the Young’s modulus. The experimental data obtained are discussed in terms of a model in which the temperature dependences of the elastic modulus and their features are accounted for by both microplastic deformation and nonlinear lattice-atom vibrations, which depend on internal stresses.  相似文献

The effect of the vibrational strain amplitude on the Young’s modulus and ultrasound absorption (internal friction) of a SiC/Si biomorphic composite prepared by pyrolysis of sapele wood followed by infiltration of silicon were investigated. The studies were conducted in air and in vacuum by the acoustic resonance method with the use of a composite vibrator in longitudinal vibrations at frequencies of about 100 kHz. Measurements performed on sapele wood-based bio-SiC/Si samples revealed a substantial effect of adsorption-desorption of molecules contained in air on the effective elasticity modulus and elastic vibration decrement. Microplastic characteristics of the SiC/Si composites prepared from wood of different tree species were compared.  相似文献

This paper reports on a study performed in the temperature range 100–293 K, in air and in vacuum, for the amplitude and time dependences of the Young’s modulus and the internal friction (ultrasound damping) of biocarbon precursors prepared from white pine wood at two pyrolysis (carbonization) temperatures of 1000 and 2400°C. The measurements have been conducted by the resonance technique with a composite vibrator on samples cut along and across the tree growth direction. The desorption of molecules of the external medium at low amplitudes of ultrasonic vibrations has been found to produce the pronounced influence on the effective elastic modulus and elastic vibration decrement. The data obtained from acoustic measurements of the amplitude dependences of the elastic modulus have been used to estimate the microplastic properties of the samples. It has been shown that increasing the carbonization temperature gives rise to noticeable changes in the Young’s modulus and internal friction, as well as to reduction of the microplastic stress σ y of the biomaterial studied. The stress σ y of the samples cut across the growth direction has been found to be substantially smaller than that of the “longitudinal” samples. The elastic and microplastic properties of precursors prepared from white pine wood have been compared with those of the white eucalyptus wood.  相似文献

The amplitude, temperature, and time dependences of the Young’s modulus and internal friction (ultrasonic attenuation) of a eucalyptus-based carbon biomatrix intended for preparing biomorphic silicon carbide ceramics were studied. Adsorption and desorption of molecules of the ambient medium (air) was shown to determine, to a considerable extent, the effective Young’s modulus and acoustic vibration decrement of a specimen. A doublet maximum in the temperature dependence of ultrasonic attenuation was observed at a temperature close to the sublimation temperature of solid CO2. The microplastic properties of the material were estimated from acoustic measurement data.  相似文献

The behavior of elastic (Young’s modulus) and microplastic properties of titanium depending on the initial structure and subsequent severe plastic deformation that transforms the material (concerning the grain size) into the submicrocrystalline structural state has been studied. It has been shown that, to a great extent, different initial structures of the metal predetermine its elastic properties after deformation.  相似文献

The effect of the amplitude of vibrational deformation on the elastic modulus and internal friction of microcrystalline aluminum samples produced by equal-channel angular pressing was studied. The samples have various deformation and thermal histories. The elastic and inelastic (microplastic) properties of the samples are investigated. As the degree of plastic deformation increases, the Young’s modulus E, the amplitude-independent decrement δi, and the microplastic flow stress σ increase. As the annealing temperature increases, the quantities δi and σ decrease noticeably and the modulus E exhibits a more complex behavior. The experimental data are discussed under the assumption that the dislocation mobility depends on both the spectrum of point defects and the internal stresses, whose level is determined by the degree of plastic deformation and the temperature of subsequent annealing. The concept of internal stresses is also used to analyze the data on the effect of the degree of deformation and annealing on the rupture strength of the samples.  相似文献

The influence of vibrational deformation amplitude ε on the dynamic elasticity modulus (Young’s modulus E) and internal friction (logarithmic decrement δ) of high-pressure polyethylene samples with different histories is studied. Acoustic measurements are made by a resonance method using the longitudinal vibrations of a composite piezoelectric vibrator at a frequency of ≈ 100 kHz. The dependences E(ε) and δ(ε) are taken at room temperature. From the acoustic data, the elasticity and microplasticity of the samples are estimated. It is found that the microplasticity remains almost unaffected upon irradiation and aging, while the elasticity modulus and breaking elongation per unit length considerably depend on the history and clearly correlated with each other. The observed effects are explained by the fact that atom-atom interaction and defects inside polymer macromolecules substantially influence the elastic modulus and breaking strength, while the inelastic microplastic strain is most likely associated with molecule-molecule interaction, which is affected by irradiation insignificantly.  相似文献

This paper reports on the results of a comparative investigation into the elastic and microplastic properties of biomorphic SiC/Si composites and biomorphic SiC prepared by pyrolysis of oak and eucalyptus with subsequent infiltration of molten silicon into a carbon matrix and additional chemical treatment to remove excess silicon. The acoustic studies were performed by the composite oscillator technique using resonant longitudinal vibrations at frequencies of about 100 kHz. It is shown that, in biomorphic SiC (as in biomorphic SiC/Si) at small-amplitude strains ε, adsorption and desorption of the environmental (air) molecules determine to a considerable extent the Young’s modulus E and the internal friction (decrement of acoustic vibrations δ) and that the changes in E and δ at these amplitudes are irreversible. The stress-microplastic strain curves are constructed from the acoustic data for the materials under study at temperatures of 100 and 290 K.  相似文献

This paper reports a study of the effect of temperature and strain amplitude on Young’s modulus and ultrasonic damping in ceramic samples of graphitelike boron nitride prepared in the RF and USA by different technologies and using various additions to improve the mechanical properties of the ceramic. It is shown that, in addition to the influence on the effective elasticity modulus, additions improve the sample microplasticity, which apparently increases the strength of the material.  相似文献

The structures of eutectic binary Al-12.7 at. % Si and Al-29.7 at. % Ge alloys and a ternary Al-10 at. % Si-10 at. % Ge alloy produced by quenching levitated melts or through solidification either in the presence or in the absence of a centrifugal acceleration of 7g are studied. Centrifugation is found to cause an increase in the silicon content in the Al-Si alloy in the direction opposite to the direction of centrifugal acceleration and an increase in the germanium content in the Al-Ge alloy in the direction of centrifugal acceleration. These differences are explained by the fact that the densities of silicon and germanium clusters and solidification centers differ from the liquid-phase density at temperatures of solidification. The related changes in the values of the Young’s modulus and in the stress-strain curves can be due to sedimentation-induced changes in the composition of samples cut from the middle part of an ingot. The processes of decomposition and recovery are shown to have a substantial effect on the elastic moduli of these alloys.  相似文献

Effective Young’s moduli and Poisson’s ratios of two-layer tubes from cubic crystals have been analyzed theoretically. It is shown (using derived formulas for numerical estimates) that the mechanical properties of two-layer tube composites from auxetics and nonauxetics are not described by the mixture rule. It is demonstrated that the deviation of the effective modulus from the mixture rule predictions rapidly increases with an increase in Young’s modulus of the nonauxetic components of a composite. It is established that, combining auxetics and nonauxetics in layered tubes, one can obtain, depending on the packing order in layers, either a strong increase or a decrease in auxeticity.  相似文献

The effect of temperature and vibrational strain amplitude on Young’s modulus and an ultrasound damping (internal friction) of ceramic boron nitride samples and silicon nitride/boron nitride fibrous monoliths was studied. It was shown that the elastic moduli and the elastic vibration decrement of the low-modulus BN ceramic and of the high-modulus Si3N4/BN monoliths measured at small strain amplitudes (in the region of amplitude-independent internal friction) exhibit a noticeable temperature hysteresis. Temperature exerts the smallest effect on the amplitude-independent decrement and on the amplitude-dependent damping and Young’s modulus defect of a monolith whose filaments are arranged both along and perpendicular to the axis of a rodshaped sample. These parameters behave in the most complicated way in a sample with all its filaments aligned with the rod axis. The observed relations can be assigned to structural features of the monoliths and the considerable influence of transverse strain on the evolution of defect structure in the materials studied.  相似文献

The amplitude and temperature dependences of the Young’s modulus and the internal friction (ultrasonic absorption) of biomorphic carbon, silicon carbide, and SiC/Si composite produced from medium density fiberboard (MDF) by pyrolysis (carbonization), followed by infiltration of molten silicon into the prepared carbon preform have been studied in the temperature range 100–293 K in air and under vacuum. The measurements have been performed by the acoustic resonance method with the use of a composite vibrator for longitudinal vibrations at frequencies of approximately 100 kHz. The data obtained by acoustic measurements of the amplitude dependences of the elastic modulus have been used for evaluating the microplastic properties of samples under study. It has been shown that the Young’s modulus, the decrement of elastic vibrations, and the conventional microyield strength of the MDF samples differ from the corresponding data for previously studied similar materials produced from natural eucalyptus, beech, sapele, and pine woods. In particular, the desorption of environmental molecules at small amplitudes of vibrations, which is typical of biomorphic materials based on natural wood, is almost absent for the MDF samples. The results obtained have been explained by different structures and the influence of pores and other defects, which, to a large extent, determine the mechanical characteristics of the biomaterials under investigation.  相似文献

Using first-principles calculations, we predict mechanical and thermodynamic properties of both Mg17Al12 and Mg2Sn precipitates in Mg–Al–Sn alloys. The elastic properties including the polycrystalline bulk modulus, shear modulus, Young’s modulus, Lame’s coefficients and Poisson’s ratio of both Mg17Al12 and Mg2Sn phases are determined with the Voigt–Reuss–Hill approximation. Our results of equilibrium lattice constants agree closely with previous experimental and other theoretical results. The ductility and brittleness of the two phases are characterized with the estimation from Cauchy pressure and the value of B/G. Mechanical anisotropy is characterized by the anisotropic factors and direction-dependent Young’s modulus. The higher Debye temperature of Mg17Al12 phase means that it has a higher thermal conductivity and strength of chemical bonding relative to Mg2Sn. The anisotropic sound velocities also indicate the elastic anisotropies of both phase structures. Additionally, density of states and Mulliken population analysis are performed to reveal the bonding nature of both phases. The calculations associated with phonon properties indicate the dynamical stability of both phase structures. The temperature dependences of thermodynamic properties of the two phases are predicted via the quasi-harmonic approximation.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this work, unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) matrix based nanocomposite was fabricated using synthesized Fe2O3 nanoparticle as reinforcement and methyl ethyl ketone peroxide as curing agent by solution casting method. The Fe2O3 nanoparticles were synthesized using the sol–gel method and the formation of nanoparticle was confirmed by X-ray diffraction, Scanning electron microscope, Energy dispersive spectrometry analysis. Interactions between metal oxide nanoparticles and polymer molecules in fabricated nanocomposite were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectrometer analysis. Pure UPR and Fe2O3/UPR composite were irradiated with various gamma radiation doses (0–15?kGy). At the 0?kGy (without radiation), the nanoparticles loaded composite showed better mechanical properties (increased in tensile strength and Young’s modulus and decreased in elongation) compared to that of pure UPR sheet. At the 5?kGy radiation dose, the tensile strength and Young’s modulus were further increased; whereas, the elongation was decreased in both samples.  相似文献

The hardness and Young’s modulus of the thin hydroxyapatite-based coatings deposited by RF magnetron sputtering onto magnesium alloy, titanium, and steel substrates are studied. As the penetration depth increases, the hardness and Young’s modulus of these coatings are found to tend toward the values that are characteristic of the substrates. It is shown that the difference between the values of hardness and Young’s modulus at small penetration depths (h < 80–100 nm) can be caused by the difference between the physicomechanical properties inside the coatings and that this difference at large penetration depths (h > 100 nm) can be induced by an additional effect of the strength properties of the substrate material.  相似文献

In situ formation of Al2O3-SiO2-SnO2 composite ceramic coating on Al-20%Sn alloy was successfully fabricated in aqueous Na2SiO3 electrolyte by microarc oxidation technology. The compositions, structure, mechanical and tribological properties of the composite coating were detailed studied by scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, hardness tester and ball-on-disc friction tester. It is found that the species originating from the Al-20%Sn alloy substrate and the electrolyte solution both participate in reaction and contribute to the composition of the coating, which results in the generated coating firmly adherent to the substrate. The composite ceramic coating can greatly improve the microhardness and tribological property of Al-20%Sn alloy.  相似文献

First principles calculations were performed to systematically investigate structure properties, phase stability and mechanical properties of MB (M = Cr, Mo, W) monoborides in orthorhombic and tetragonal structures. The results of equilibrium structures are in good agreement with other available theoretical and experimental data. The elastic properties, including bulk modulus B, shear modulus G, Young’s modulus E and Poisson’s ratio ν were calculated by the Voigt-Reuss-Hill approximation. All considered monoborides are mechanically stable. The results of elastic anisotropies show that elastic anisotropy of orthorhombic structure is larger than that of tetragonal structure. Moreover, the minimum thermal conductivities were also estimated using the Cahill’s model, and the results indicate that the minimum thermal conductivities show a dependence on directions.  相似文献

First principles calculations were performed in the framework of the density functional theory (DFT) using the Full Potential–Linear Augment Plane Wave method (FP–LAPW) within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) to predict the structural, electronic, elastic and thermal properties of NiTi2 intermetallic compound. By using the Wien2k all-electron code, calculations of the ground state and electronic properties such as lattice constants, bulk modulus, presure derivative of bulk modulus, total energies and density of states were also included. The elastic constants and mechanical properties such as Poisson’s ratio, Young’s modulus and shear modulus are estimated from the calculated elastic constants of the single crystal. Through the quasi-harmonic Debye model, the preasure and temperature dependences of the linear expansion coefficient, bulk modulus and heat capacity have been investigated. Finally, the Debye temperature has been estimated from the average sound velocity according to the predicted polycrystal bulk properties and from the single crystal elastic constants.  相似文献

First-principles calculations were performed to investigate the structural properties, phase stabilities, elastic properties and thermal conductivities of MP (M = Ti, Zr, Hf) monophosphides. These monophosphides are thermodynamically and mechanically stable. Values for the bulk modulus B, shear modulus G, Young’s modulus E and Poisson’s ratio ν were calculated by Voigt–Reuss–Hill approximation. The mechanical anisotropy was discussed via several anisotropy indices and three-dimensional (3D) surface constructions. The order of elastic anisotropy is ZrP > HfP > TiP. The minimum thermal conductivities of these monophosphides were investigated using Clarke’s model and Cahill’s model. The results revealed that these monophosphides are suitable for use as thermal insulating materials and that their minimum thermal conductivities are anisotropic.  相似文献
